Melissa M. Gereg

Melissa M. Gereg died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999 at her home, 23 Lakeview Road, Brookfield at the age of 36. She was born in Danbury, Sept. 13, 1963 daughter of Theresa M. Martin Gereg and the late Alan P. Gereg. She graduated from Immaculate High School and attended Western Connecticut State University.

Miss Gereg was a member of St. Marguerite Bourgeoy's Church in Brookfield. Besides her mother, with whom she made her home, she is survived by her brother Alan Jr. of Brookfield, her sister and brother-in-law Brenda M. and John Aurelia and her nephews: Michael and Daniel Aurelia all of Newtown and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Marguerite Bourgeoy's Church on Candlewood Lake Road in Brookfield. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Contributions may be made in her memory to St. Marguerite Bourgeoy's Church, Candlewood Lake Road, Brookfield, CT, 06804.

Arden H. Williams

Arden H. Williams, 77, of Tallahassee, Fla., died on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999. A resident of Heritage Health Care in Talahassee for the past 22 months, where he will be missed by many friends, Mr. Williams had lived in St. Petersburg, Fla. for the past 10 years after moving from Brookfield.

He was owner of Skippy Paving & Landscaping Co., Inc. and previous to construction work, he ran a dairy farm for 11 years. He was a World War II veteran, serving on the U.S.S. Randolph.

He is survived by his wife, Anna of Connecticut; a daughter and son-in-law: Diane and Skip of Florida; a son and daughter-in-law: Arden (Skip) and Ann of Connecticut; five grandchildren: Nathan, Nicole, Allison, Shannon and Jake and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at Beggs Funeral Home Apalachee Parkway Chapel in Talahassee Sunday at 2 p.m.

Albert J. Griffin Sr.

Albert J. Griffin Sr., 77, of Bridgeport and Woodbury, beloved husband of Eleanor Massarelli Griffin, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, in the home of his daughter, Mary Griffin after a long illness. Born in Waltham, Mass., Oct. 20, 1927, he was the son of the late Daniel and Mary Hoey Griffin.

A resident of Bridgeport for over 10 years, he currently resided in Woodbury for the past 12 months. Educated in the Boston area, Mr. Griffin was a decorated veteran having served in the Army during World War II for over five years. His professional life was mostly spent working for Simplex Time of Gardner, Mass., TIE Corporation and the City of Shelton. He had retired from Allstate Insurance Co. where he had worked as a claims representative.

A devoted family man, Mr. Griffin considered his children his greatest legacy. A gifted pianist and vocalist, he entertained thousands over the course of his lifetime. He was a member of the Royal Order of Hibernians and a strong supporter of Catholic causes. In addition to his wife, Eleanor, he is survived by a son, Albert J. Griffin Jr. and his wife, My Chau Bui Griffin of New Hampshire; four daughters, Mary Griffin of Woodbury, Kathleen Ripley and her husband, Stephen of Virginia, Helen Evans and her husband, Mark of Southbury, Julia Murphy and her husband George, of Fairfield; two brothers, Paul and Daniel (Joe) Griffin; a sister, Marion Doucette, all of Massachusetts; 13 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Anne Marie (Shea) Griffin.

Friends are invited to go directly to St. Theresa's Church in Trumbull on Monday at 10 a.m. where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St., Bridgeport (on the Trumbull Line).

Elizabeth Marie (Manning) Evans

Mrs. Elizabeth Marie (Manning) Evans, 95, a resident of Natick, Mass. for over 65 years passed away Thursday evening, Dec. 23, 1999 in Danbury after a period of declining health.

The daughter of the late James and Mary (Shanley) Manning, she was born in County Roscommon, Ireland, and immigrated to the United States in 1920, at the age of 16. She was the widow of the late T. Herbert Evans, a prominent local Natick businessman who passed away in 1985.

Mrs. Evans was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Parish in Natick and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

She leaves her daughter, Claire M. Stauffer of Danbury, with whom she lived, two sons, T. James Evans and Robert P. Evans, both of Natick, 12 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral mass in St. Patrick's Church, 44 East Central St., (Route 135) Natick, on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 10:30 a.m., followed by the interment in the parish cemetery. Visiting hours are Tuesday, Dec. 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home, 105 North Main St., (Route 27) Natick. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 30 West St., Danbury, CT, 06810.

Nora M. Marion

Nora M. Marion, age 86, resident of the Pope John Paul II Center, Danbury, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1999 in the Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late William Marion.

She was born in Archbald, Penn. Dec. 31, 1912 a daughter of the late Thomas and Bridget (Doran) Barnett. Mrs. Marion was a graduate of Marywood University, Scranton, Penn. She received her master's degree in education at Fordham University.

For over 20 years, she was a special education teacher in the West Babylon, N.Y. school system. Following retirement, she lived at 1925 McGraw Ave. in the Bronx, N.Y.

She is survived by a grandniece, Marie Siefring of Danbury, her goddaughter, Dolores Whamond of Newtown, and several other grandnieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown and at 10 a.m. in the St. Mary's Church, 24 Dodgingtown Road, Bethel for a mass of Christian burial. Interment in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Vahalla, N.Y. Friends may call Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Honan Funeral Home.

Mildred Frengs

Mildred Frengs, "Sis" of Port Richey, Fla., formally of Thornwood, N.Y., on December 20, 1999. Mrs. Frengs was born in Devon and was a long time Thornwood, N.Y. resident before moving to Florida.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; three sons, Joseph Jr., George and John. She was the grandmother of four and sister of Bernard Sauer

Carolyn F. Walker

Carolyn F. Walker, 78, widow of Alfred W. Walker, died Wednesday, December 15, 1999 at Bethea Baptist Retirement Center in Darlington, S.C.

She was born September 4, 1921 in Lake View, S.C., a daughter of the late Richard Rhodes Flowers and Willie Daniel Rogers Flowers. She was predeceased by four brothers, C.P. Rogers, J.D. Rogers, H.D. Rogers and Tom Rogers.

Mrs. Walker retired following twenty years of service from Myrtlewood Golf Club. She was a member of Ocean View Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Carolyn Walker Bolton and her husband, William of Danbury; five step-grandchildren, Michael, Wendy, John and Kelly Bolton and Nancy Burbine; one great grandson, David Burbine and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 1999 at McMillan-Small Funeral Home with Rev. Kirk Lawton officiating. Burial followed in Cedardale Cemetery in Mullins, S.C. at 12:00 p.m. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Bethea Baptist Retirement Community, PO Box 4000, Darlington, SC 29532.

Paul Grammatico

Paul Grammatico, 76, of 1179 S.E. Proctor Lane, Port St. Lucie, Fla., formerly of James St., Danbury, died at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C. on Tuesday.

Born in Danbury September 17, 1923, son of the late Joseph and Angeline Cadematori Grammatico, he attended local schools and had lived in Danbury most of his life before moving to Florida.

He was a Veteran of World War II serving with the Army 10th Mountain Division in Italy and was a recipient of the Bronze Star.

Mr. Grammatico was a teacher at Henry Abbott Technical School for 20 years retiring in 1984. Prior to that he had been a Supervisor at Heli Coil Corporation. He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Church and had served as a Lector and Usher as well as being involved in other church functions. Very active in the Boy Scouts of America, he founded Troop 81 at the Catholic War Veterans. He was a recipient of the St. George Award from the Bishop of Bridgeport, was first recipient of the Orgelman Thorpe Award for the Schaghticoke District as Troop Leader as Vice Chairman of the Schaghticoke Lodge and Advisor to the Order of the Arrow for Mahewu Council. He also received a Congressional Award and Proclamation from the Mayor of Danbury for his faithful service to the Boy Scouts. Mr. Grammatico was a member of the Catholic War Veterans and was its past commander for three years, Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all organizations in Danbury and Florida.

He is survived by three sisters, Marie A. Sharon of Bethesda, MD., Angeline L. Grammatico of Port St. Lucie Fla. with whom he made his home and Catherine A. Messer of Chandler, Ariz., and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Rd., Danbury, Tuesday, December 28th at 10:00 a.m.

Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Monday evening from 5:00 to 8:00.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Building and Renovation Fund of the Catholic War Veterans, Shalvoy Lane, Danbury, CT 06810 or to the Boy Scouts, Troop 81 of the Catholic War Veterans.

Willie Lee (Shaker) Clemmons

Willie Lee (Shaker) Clemmons, 57, of Eden Dr., Danbury died December 18, 1999 at Danbury Hospital.

Born in Greenville, N.C. July 6, 1942, he was a son of the late George Morring and the late Maggie Clemmons. He was a graduate of J.H. Rose High School in Greenville, N.C.

Mr. Clemmons owned and operated the former Shakers Complete Car Care Center. He was also employed by Hart Bus Co.

Mr. Clemmons is survived by his longtime companion, Suzanne Jankowski of Danbury; two daughters, Vivian Butler of Hyattsville, Md. and Tonia White of Orange, Va.; three granddaughters, Brittany, Shaakirah and Teaira; five sisters, Carrie L. (Sue) Harrison, Mamie Robinson, Carrie Connor, Rosa Lindsay and Dorthea Morring; eight brothers, William Earl Brown, Willie Ray Brown, Jessie Morring, Lorenzo Morring, Leon Morring, Ulysses Morring, Charlie Morring and Hazel Morring; an aunt, Annie Godley; two uncles, Julius Clemmons and Staton Clemmons and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, Monday, December 27th at 12 noon.

Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.

Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m.

Eileen Boylan

Eileen Boylan, 74, died Tuesday, December 21 in Fort Pierce, Florida. She resided in Satellite Beach, Florida and Bronxville, N.Y.

She was the beloved mother of Patricia Ryan of Sandy Hook.

She is survived by a brother, Reverend John O'Brien of Maryknoll; five children, Patricia, Terry Banta of Satellite Beach, Florida, Bill Boylan of Sag Harbor, N.Y., Michael Boylan of Essex Junction, VT and John Boylan of Manhasset, N.Y. and ten grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at Maryknoll in New York at a later date. Donations may be sent to Charles P. Ryan Memorial Scholarship Fund, Thomas College, 180 West River Rd., Waterville, Maine 04901.

John D. Forbes Sr.

John D. Forbes Sr., 81, a Sherman resident died December 22nd at Northern Westchester Hospital Center. He was born and educated in Yonkers, N.Y., won a scholarship and studied voice at the Julliard School of Music in New York City.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Florence Phillipps; two sons, John D. Jr. of Malvern, N.Y. and Norman R. of North Salem, N.Y.; a daughter, Karen E. of Sherman and a brother, Dr. James Forbes of North Merrick, N.Y.

He served in World War II with Battery B of the 550th Anti-Aircraft Unit participating in five major battles. After the war, he was employed by the Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, N.Y. and retired from there as Office Manager in 1982, after 35 years of service. He moved to Sherman in 1983.

He was a member of the Gaylordsville United Methodist Church, Gaylordsville, where a memorial service will be held Monday, December 27th at 11 a.m.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Book of Remembrance, Gaylordsville United Methodist Church, Gaylordsville, CT; the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beaureguard St., Alexandria, VA 22311; or any charity of your choice.

Evelyn Green Fernandez

Mrs. Evelyn Green Fernandez of Lakeland, Fla., died Sunday, December 19, 1999 at Beverly Healthcare, Lakeland, Fla. She was 77.

Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on July 27, 1922, she came to Lakeland, Fla. from New Milford 10 years ago.

She was a homemaker. She was also a seamstress, artist and opera singer.

She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Lakeland, Fla., where she was active in several of the women's groups.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Burton E. Green and second husband, Kenneth M. Horne. She is survived by her husband, Cecil Fernandez Jr.; son, Kenneth M. Horne, Lakeland, Fla.; sisters, Alicia Weber, Lakeland, Fla., Ana Carbonell, Miami, Fla.; and two grandsons.

Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Thursday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1820 State Road 540A, Lakeland, Fla.

Thomas R. Petruno

Thomas R. Petruno, 54, of Southern Boulevard, Danbury, died at his home Wednesday morning after a courageous battle with Cancer.

Tom was born in Danbury, December 26, 1945, son of the late William E. and Mildred T. Henigman Petruno Sr. and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Danbury High School, Class of 1963, attended Penn State University and graduated from Western Connecticut State University.

He served in the Army during the Vietnam War from April 16, 1968 to April 15, 1970.

He then taught as a Substitute Teacher in the Danbury School system and later joined the U.S. Postal Service in Bethel in 1973.

Tom lived his life doing the things he loved most which included travel, fishing, and hiking.

He was a member of St. Peter Church.

Tom leaves behind a brother, William E. Petruno Jr. of Washington; a nephew and family, William and Karen Petruno, Robert and Ashleigh Repko of Roxbury; his nieces, Michelle Petruno and her fianc'E9, Dan Keller of Danbury, Kathleen Petruno of Danbury; cousins, Debbie and her husband, George Englert of Bethel; his aunt, Mildred Burgess of Danbury; his extended family, John McNamara of Danbury, Vic and Marge Francis of Gaylordsville and Roland Johnson of West Haven as well as Apollo and Jessie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church Friday morning at 9:00.

Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Tom's memory to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Rd., Wilton, CT 06897, Tarrywile Park, 70 Southern Boulevard, Danbury, CT 06810 or to the Appalachian Mountain Club, 5 Joy St., Boston, MA 02108.
