Catherine Timchak Riccelli
Catherine Timchak Riccelli, 49, former Greenwich resident, more recently of Peoria, Ariz., passed away peacefully on July 27, 2010.
Riccelli was born on July 10, 1961 to William and Andrea Timchak of Rockland, Maine. She was employed by PetSmart of Arizona and was active in its various charities. Prior to that, she had worked for Hyperion in Stamford for many years.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Thomas Riccelli; three children: Thomas Jr., Jessica and Brooke; two stepchildren, James and Carleen; her brothers, Michael Timchak of Lincolnville, Maine and Steven Timchak of Norwalk; and her two sisters, Joyce Jay of Greenwich and Jeannine Audet of Searsport, Maine.
A memorial celebration of Riccelli's life will be held at St Catherine's Church in Riverside on Oct. 2, 2010 at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a fund for her children's education in the name of "Cathy Riccelli Memorial Fund" and sent to Kristi Patterson of Camden National Bank, 156 Main Street, Belfast, Maine 04915.
Eleanor W. Stearns
Eleanor W. Stearns, 76, formerly of Greenwich, passed away in Massachusetts on Aug. 8, 2010, surrounded by her family after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
Stearns served alongside her husband in his nearly 40 years of ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich, from 1981 - 94. During that time, she was actively involved as a volunteer at Greenwich Hospital and as a dispatcher for Call-A-Ride of Greenwich.
She is survived by her husband, the Reverend Richard H. Stearns and sister-in-law Charlotte M. Stearns, both of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; two daughters, Cheryl Stearns Huber and her husband Randy of Newark, Del., and Lisa C. Stearns of Hingham, Mass.; two sons, Richard H. Stearns Jr., of Newark and Robert J. Stearns of New York, N.Y.; and six grandchildren: Ryan, Lauren and Caitlyn Huber of Newark and Heather, Jeffrey and Alyssa Stearns of Hamilton, N.J.
A funeral service was held on Aug. 12 at First and Central Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, Del., followed immediately by a burial at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church cemetery in Wilmington.

Rose Imbrogno Tarantino
Rose Imbrogno Tarantino, 93, a life long resident of Greenwich, passed away at Greenwich Hospital on August 2 after a brief illness.
Tarantino was born on November 27, 1916 to the late Umile and Rosaria Imbrogno.
She is survived by her loving husband, Philip; two sons, Pat and his wife, Angela, and Philip and his wife, Lucille; four grandsons, Kevin, Philip and his wife, Nancy, Jason and his wife, Michelle, John; two great-grandchildren, Alexa and Philip; her sister, Theresa Scappaticci; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Josephine Imbrogno, Carmella Piacitelli, Angelina Bocchino, Anthony and Louis Imbrogno.
Arrangements were made by the Castiglione Funeral Home in Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, August 6th at Sacred Heart Church in Byram. Entombment followed in St. Mary's cemetery in Greenwich.
Edith Van Der Stricht
Edith Elisabeth Eaton Van Der Stricht, 96, of Pittsford, N.Y., died peacefully on Aug. 1, 2010.
She was born in Toronto on Oct. 30, 1913 and educated at schools in Canada, England, Italy and France. During World War II, she aided the Allied effort by working with Canadian Red Cross in London.
After the war, Van Der Stricht returned with her husband to New York City and eventually settled in Greenwich. She was a constant presence on the bridge tables and tennis courts at the Greenwich Field Club as well as an active member of First Presbyterian Church. She was also a lifelong devotee to the natural world, an enthusiastic equestrian, an avid bird watcher, and a longtime patron and advocate of wilderness conservation. She moved to Pittsford to be closer to her family in 2005.
Her family and friends will miss her wit, wisdom and candor.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Susan Rae van der Stricht; a grandson, John Paul van der Stricht; a brother-in-law, Jean van der Stricht of Brussels, Belgium; a sister-in-law, Diana Eaton of Toronto, Ontario; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul van der Stricht and her son, Robert van der Stricht.
A memorial service will be held on Aug. 28 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Third Presbyterian Church, 4 Meigs Street, Rochester, NY 14607.

Jean Overman Whiton
Jean Overman Whiton of Guilford, former principal flutist for the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra, died quietly on August 4, 2010, after a lengthy illness at the age of 91.
Whiton was born on June 11, 1919, to Laura and Charles Overman of Oakdale, Calif. She was the youngest of three children and spent all of her childhood in California.
Whiton attended Modesto Junior College in California, then earned a bachelor of arts degree in music at the University of California, Berkeley. She continued her musical studies at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, where she earned a certificate in flute performance in 1939.
In 1947, she married
Peter Whiton and moved to Wilton, where together they built a life around their family and music until her husband passed away in 1972. Whiton then continued her own professional career. She was principal flutist of the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra in Greenwich under John Nelson and David Gilbert from 1971 until 1989. She continued as the flutist with The Greenwich Chamber Players for a number of years after retiring from the orchestra. She also taught a number of students who went on to successful professional careers.
Whiton is survived by three sons: Michael, Paul and Geoffrey; three daughters: Barbara, Linda and Margaret; nine grandchildren: Jason, Daniel, Kevin, Sarah, Madeline, Ember, Moriah, Grace and Jordan; and four great-granddaughters.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Aug. 21st at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church in Branford, Conn. (1009 Main Street, Branford, CT 06405).

Mary Saunders Wyatt
Mary Saunders Wyatt, former Riverside resident, died on Aug. 2, 2010 at Abbey Delray South in Delray Beach, Fla.
She was born on April 24, 1918 in Wilkes Barre, Pa. to Helen Marion Wagner and Gerald Braton Saunders. Wyatt attended Syracuse University, where she received a bachelor of science degree in home economics from the College of Human Development in 1939 and later taught in several secondary schools in Upstate New York.
In 1943, she married
Robert H. Wyatt, M.D. and they enjoyed a relationship for 63 years. Dr. Wyatt died in 2006.
After moving to Riverside in the early `50s and raising a family, she was a nursery school teacher at Christ Church in Greenwich. She was also active in her community as a member of the First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich, serving as senior deaconess and Sunday school teacher and volunteering at the Greenwich Hospital Gift Shop as part of the Hospital Auxiliary.
Wyatt was a gifted hostess who brought relatives and friends together with her delicious food and a welcoming home, her family said.
She is survived by her three children: Robert Saunders Wyatt of Keller, Texas, Bradley Braton Wyatt of Tiburon, Calif. and Barbara Wyatt Finn of Olympia, Wash. Wyatt is also survived by three grandsons: Matthew W. Wyatt of Grapevine, Texas, Scott A. Wyatt of Keller, Texas and Frederick Wyatt Finn of Olympia, Wash.
A private memorial service for the family will be held at The First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich.

Lina Franco
Lina Franco, 51, Greenwich native of Monroe, passed away on April 4, 2010 with her family by her side.
She was born in Greenwich on March 9, 1959 to Frances Scoglio Franco and the late Frank Franco.
Franco was a graduate of Greenwich High School and a nursery school teacher for many years. She enjoyed art, drawing, reading, pottery, nature, and especially the sun and the ocean.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughter, Jaclyn Birn and her partner, Lia Paniccia; two brothers, John Franco and his wife, Helen and Paul Franco and his wife, Martha; her grandpets, Madison and Marley, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was held on April 8 at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside. Entombment followed in St. Mary cemetery in Greenwich.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to American Cancer Society or The Connecticut Hospice.
