Jose Celso Buan
Jose Celso S. Buan, 82, Greenwich resident, died on Dec. 5, 2009.
He will be best remembered as a devoted husband, a protective father, a formidable character in family gatherings, a sportsman, a loving grandfather and great-grandfather, and a loyal friend.
Celso is survived by his wife, Annie; and their children and spouses: Ana, Alesandra and Christopher, Robert and Shirley, Reza, Mitzie and Noel; eight grandchildren: Joey, Ruschelle, Raisza, Gift, Christian, Jilian, Bryan and Denise; two great-grandchildren, Jusztene and Carlos; and a brother, Cenen Buan of Davao City, Philippines.
A memorial service will be tomorrow at 1 p.m., at Harvest Time Church on Kings Street in Greenwich with Pastor Glenn Harvison officiating.
Mary L. Degrippo
Mary L. Degrippo, 79, of Greenwich, passed away on Dec. 6, 2009 at Rosenthal Hospice in Stamford.
She was born in North Pelham, N.Y. to Pasquale and Barbara Graziano Carretto.
Degrippo grew up in Greenwich and attended Greenwich public schools. She graduated Greenwich High School Class of 1949.
She worked for Connecticut Natural Gas Corp. in the accounting department for 17 years.
Degrippo enjoyed cooking, bowling, bingo, and going to the movies. She belonged to both the St. Roch Seniors and Greenwich Seniors.
In her youth she was an avid fast-pitch softball player, and she continued to love and enjoy all sports.
Family and friends say Degrippo was a generous and caring woman, who enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Despite her recent illness, she remained strong and warmed those around her with her smile.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Thomas G. DeGrippo, Sr.; a son, Thomas G. DeGrippo, Jr. and daughter-in-law Jean DeGrippo; a daughter, Barbara J. Leonard and son-in-law Lee Leonard; and a daughter, Nancy Troy and her husband Thomas Troy.
She is also survived by six grandchildren: Michael DeGrippo, Lauren DeGrippo, Mary-Leigh Leonard, Kelly Troy, Thomas Troy Jr., and Matthew Troy.
She was predeceased by six siblings: Patsy Carretto, Concetta "Connie" Santora, Joseph Carretta, Sam Carretta, Michael Carretta, and Angelina "Babe" Murphy.
A Mass of Christian burial was held on Dec. 9 at St. Roch's Church in Greenwich. Internment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery.

James P. Grace
James P. Grace, 80, Korean War veteran and retired Greenwich police officer of Heritage Village in Southbury, Vt. died on Dec. 1, 2009 in Danbury Hospital.
Grace was born on May 19, 1929, in Oswego, N.Y. to James and Marie O'Connor Grace. He served in the U.S. Navy veteran during the Korean War.
Grace worked as a police officer for the Town of Greenwich until his retirement, and later worked at Putnam Trust in Greenwich.
He enjoyed doing volunteer work in both Greenwich and Southbury.
He was a resident of Heritage Village for 16 years and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
He leaves one son, James P. Grace III of Southbury; a daughter, Claire Grace Maguire of Mt. Kisco, N.Y.; a sister, Lorraine Albeke of Hallandale, Fla.; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Clara P. Grace.
A private graveside service was held in St. Mary cemetery in Greenwich. Arrangements were made by Carpino Funeral Home in Southbury.

Charlotte Ming Holtz
Charlotte Ming Holtz, 16, passed away on Dec. 6, 2009. She would have been 17 on Dec. 21.
Holtz was born in Stamford and grew up in New Canaan, North Salem and Stamford. She attended the Whitby School in Greenwich, Greenwich Academy and Choate Rosemary Hall.
As a youngster, Holtz was a natural athlete who loved horseback riding and roaming the woods in North Salem with her brother Chester and sister Claire.
She had a special affinity for animals, particularly the horses she helped groom and feed at the stables near her North Salem home, and for her dog, Pierre. She later became a theater enthusiast and attended many Broadway plays.
Family and friends will remember Holtz for her warm and outgoing personality that attracted her many friends and kept her active in team sports and other school activities.
She also had creative talents, including photography and poetry.
In addition to her brother and sister, Holtz is survived by her parents, Marc and Melinda; as well as her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
A funeral service will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at Temple Sinai, 458 Lakeside Drive in Stamford. Interment will be private.
Jane W. Bohan
Jane W. Bohan, 75, former Greenwich resident, died peacefully at home on Nov. 19, 2010 surrounded by her family. She was born in Flushing, N.Y., and was a resident of Stuart, Fla. for 24 years. She also had a summer home in South Dartmouth, Mass.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Thomas Bohan; her three daughters: Elizabeth Becker of Darien, Suzanne Bohan of Boulder, Colo., and Marguerite Bono of Dover, Mass.; two sons, Thomas Bohan Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., and Robert Bohan of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Charles Wolfertz of Ponte Vedra, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Nov. 24 at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Hobe Sound, Fla. Committal Services and Interment will take place on Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, in Hawthorne, N.Y.

Augustus C. Frederick Sr.
Augustus C. Frederick Sr., 94, a lifetime Greenwich resident, passed away on Nov. 17, 2010.
He was born in East Port Chester on April 24, 1916 to Augustus and Martha Richter Frederick. Frederick was a graduate of Greenwich High School and was a longtime Borden, Inc. employee.
He was also an avid gardner and enjoyed reading about world history, his family said.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Una McDonough Frederick of Greenwich; his four sons: John A. of Greenwich, Robert G. and his wife Janet of Stuart, Okla., Thomas H. and his wife Sheila of Cape Cod, Mass., and Augustus C. Jr. and his wife Linda of Cape Cod, Mass.; and two daughters, Nancy B. and her husband Robert Hastie of Savannah, Ga., and Eunice P. Frederick of Greenwich; 11 grandchildren; two step- grandsons; 16 great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.
He is also survived by his sister, Viola Emmerson of Stamford and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Theresa and Thomas W. Frederick; his daughter-in-law, Jean Frederick and his son-in-law, Eugene D. Hartley.
A graveside service was held at Putnam cemetery on Nov. 23. Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home 31 Arch Street handled the arrangements.
