Benjamin J. Servidio Jr.

Benjamin J. "Babe" Servidio Jr., U.S. Air Force veteran and Greenwich native of Stamford, died suddenly at home on Oct. 17, 2009. He was a resident of Stamford for more than 50 years.

The son Benjamin J. and Angelina D`Andrea Servidio, he was born on Nov. 25, 1932, attended North Mianus Elementary School and graduated from Greenwich High School.

Servidio worked for Conde Nast and Genovese, and retired from Clairol/Bristol Meyers.

He served in the Intelligence Corps. of the U.S. Air Force for more than three years.

A devout Christian Catholic, Servidio attended Mass at St. Benedict`s and St. Mary`s in Stamford. He was a longtime Eucharistic minister and member of Sacred Heart Church who participated in prayer meeting services at St. Thomas More in Darien and St. Mary`s in Stamford.

Servidio was also an active community member who enjoyed volunteering. He participated in many senior groups in the Stamford Greenwich area including the Over 60 Club in Stamford, the AARP on Newfield Ave. and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Springdale.

He was a longtime active member of the Improved Order of Redman, a national fraternal organization, served as an officer and longtime member of its Greenwich chapter, the Redman Home Association, and was a longtime member and officer of the Chickahominy Reunion Association, all organizations are involved in numerous philanthropic endeavors such as providing scholarships, trips for schoolchildren, and contributing donations to the Alzheimer`s Association.

He leaves his son Mark S. Servidio and his wife Tanya; a grandson, Michael Benjamin; two sisters, Rosie O`Donnell and her husband Harold and Joyce Summa and her husband Vito, all of Stamford; and three brothers: Joseph Servidio of Riverside; Robert Servidio and his wife Lynn, of Venice, Fla.; and Richard Servidio and his wife, Marie of Northport, Fla.

Servidio is also survived by his brother-in-law, Dr. Peter J. Buchetto and his wife, Catherine Haggquist Buchetto; his sister-in-law Vita and her husband, Daniel G. Chichester, Sr.; and his brother-in-law, Salvatore R. Buchetto and his wife, Toni, all of Stamford; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins; two uncles and five aunts.

Servidio was predeceased recently in May 2009 by his wife of 52 years, Rachell Buchetto Servidio. He was also predeceased by his sister, Dolores Abbott of Stamford; a brother Louis of Vermont; and a brother James of Greenwich.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary`s Church, 566 Elm Street, in Stamford. Interment will be private. Lacerenza Funeral Home is assisting the family.

John B. Smeriglio

John B. Smeriglio, 61, Vietnam War veteran and former Greenwich resident of Memphis, Tenn., died of natural causes on Oct. 18, 2009.

Smeriglio was born in Port Chester, N.Y. on April 18, 1948. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War.

Smeriglio was a longtime board member of the Greenwich YMCA, an avid golfer and longtime board member of the St. Andrew`s Golf Club in Hastings-on Hudson, NY, as well as, a past President of the Lake Club in Wilton, CT.

Smeriglio was predeceased by his mother, Camille Caputi Smeriglio of Riverside. He is survived by his two children, Stephanie Ellen Smeriglio of Greenwich; and John Zachary Smeriglio of Wilton; his father, James M. Smeriglio; and two sisters, Susan C. Morris and Elizabeth N. Smeriglio all of Riverside.

A private memorial service will be held prior to internment in St. Mary Cemetery.

Evelyn M. Tomchek

Evelyn M. Tomchek, 90, longtime Greenwich resident, died on Oc. 19, 2009.

She was born Dec. 26, 1918 and was the daughter of Edward and Antoinette O`Rourke.

Tomchek is survived by a daughter, Willa M. Nemetz of Windsor; three grandchildren: John and Tiffany Christy of Laurel Hill, Fla. and Jessica Tomchek of Sarasota, Fla.; three great-grandchildren: Clayton, Austin and Brenton Christy; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two husbands, William S. Nemetz and John M. Tomchek; her longtime companion Charles Sweatt; and two children; John M. Tomchek Jr. and Mary Ellen Topalis.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Oct. 26 at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Greenwich.

Charles F. Westerman

Charles F. Westerman, 85, a lifelong Greenwich resident and president of Wallauer Paint and Wallpaper Co., passed away in Florida on Oct. 17, 2009.

Westerman graduated from Greenwich High School and he joined the U.S. Navy, where he was a Seabee from 1943-5.

He worked at Wallauer Paint and Wallpaper Co. for 61 years.

He became a member of the John Jay Mason Lodge 653 in 1950 and a member of the Lions Club in 1951. He also joined the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in 1970 and attended meetings at the Greenwich Boat and Yacht Club, where he moored his boat.

Westerman loved boating with his family and friends. They will remember him as a kind and generous man who cherished his wife, two daughters and two granddaughters.

He leaves his wife of 59 years, Frances; his two daughters: Barbara and her husband Billy; and Cheryl and her husband Larry; and two granddaughters, Brooke and Lauren.

He also leaves his brothers Harold and Fred, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Philip in 1979.

A chapel service was held at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home on Oct. 27.

Barbara Comeau Bojonell

Barbara Comeau Bojonell, 73, an Old Greenwich resident and former librarian at Perrot Memorial Library, passed away on March 4, 2010.

Bojonell was born in Greenwich on April 25, 1936 to Dr. Robert A. and Dorothy Kenney Comeau. She attended Greenwich Country Day School, Choate Rosemary Hall and Vassar College.

After receiving her B.A. degree in English in 1958, she pursued what became a lifelong passion for travel and adventure by touring throughout Europe and the Middle East. During her travels, Bojonell worked on a kibbutz in Israel and later had a small part in a Roger Corman film set in Greece.

While in Greece, she met her husband, Brian Bojonell, the manager of the Athens office for Pan American World Airways.

The couple lived in Athens, Greece, for 14 years before settling in Connecticut, where Bojonell worked as a librarian at the Perrot Memorial Library in Old Greenwich from 1978 - 98.

After her retirement, she again traveled extensively around the world to such places as China, Russia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Jordan, Turkey, Panama, Poland and Romania.

Bojonell will be remembered for her intelligence and intellectual curiosity, youthful spirit, zest for life, kind and generous nature and sense of fun.

When she was not traveling, she enjoyed spending time at Tod's Point, watching the History International channel, doing New York Times crossword puzzles, and dressing up as the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, Elmo or Penguin.

She is survived by her two daughters, Hilaire Bojonell and her husband Martin R. Moeller, Jr. of Corvalis, Ore., and Jennifer Korzenik, and her husband Peter of Norwalk; a sister, Jane Coony, and her husband Tom of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Robert Comeau, Jr., and his wife Joan of Lenox, Mass.; three nephews: Jonathan Coony, Tom Coony and Robert Comeau; two nieces, Linda Taben and Jeanne Comeau; and two granddaughters, Peyton Korzenik and Brynne Korzenik. She was predeceased by her husband Brian.

A memorial Mass will be held today at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave., in at 10 a.m.
