Edd Hendee
Edd Hendee, 33, a Riverside resident, U.S. Navy veteran and private equity dealmaker, died on Feb. 13, 2010 while skiing at Stratton Mountain in southern Vt.
As a football star at the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, Hendee suffered a hip injury, and went on to race in triathlons after being told he might never run again.
He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, served time in the U.S. Navy and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 2006.
Hendee joined Barry Sternlicht's Starwood Capital Group in Greenwich in May 2006 as Sternlicht's executive assistant.
His drive and talent enabled him to quickly rise to vice president as vice president of acquisitions, where he worked on structuring the entity and raising funds and was a leader of Starwood's efforts in the New York City market.
He also had a leadership role last year in setting up publicly traded Starwood Property Trust (NYSE:STWD).
Hendee was described as a man with an impish grin and huge smile that attracted people instantly to him. He sat in the middle of Starwood's office with the rest of Greenwich crew of about 100 people and took time out to mentor Starwood's fresh-out-of-college recruits.
Greg Frisoli, a commercial broker at Cushman Wakefield in Greenwich who was one of Hendee's closest friends, told Greenwich Time, "He thrived in competition and the challenges that life presented him. He was a fierce friend and real man of duty whose family and country meant everything to him."
Hendee is survived by his wife, Claudine Hendee, and three young children.
Funeral services will be held in Houston, where both Hendee and his wife have roots.
Nora T. Carroll McGowan
Nora T. Carroll McGowan died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Feb. 9, 2010.
She was the mother of James and Barbara McGowan, Nora Haggerty, Joseph and Jeanne McGowan, and Katie and Ben Ramaley; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, James F. McGowan, who died in 2001.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Catherine's of Siena Church in Riverside on Feb. 13. Internment followed at St. Mary cemetery in Greenwich.
Claudette Crawford Marshall
Claudette Crawford Marshall, 72, former Greenwich resident, passed away on Feb. 7, 2010 at home in Jupiter, Fla.
Born on Aug. 6, 1937, Marshall was the fourth daughter of Claude Crawford and Frances Stratton Crawford, and was raised in Memphis, Tenn. She lived for a time in Greenwich, then moved to Jupiter, where she resided for 26 years.
Marshall raised three sons and enjoyed playing tennis, swimming, cooking and walking.
She is survived by her husband, James LeRoy Marshall of Jupiter; her sister, Frances Barbey; her three sons: Timothy and his wife, Alesa of Durham, N.C., ; Claude of Sage, Ark.; and Douglas of Jupiter; a sister-in-law, Cecil Marshall of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother-in-law, Robert Barrows of Matthews, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Katherine Thompson and Ruthie Haizlip

Agnes Antigone Pappas
Agnes Antigone Pappas, 82, a longtime Greenwich resident, passed away on Feb. 14, 2010 at Centra State Medical Center in New Jersey.
She was born and raised in New York City, and was married
to Dimitrios E. Pappas for 50 years before his death in 1995.
They lived in Greenwich for many years, first in Cos Cob, then in the back country, and most recently at the Old Greenwich Gables.
Pappas was a former president of the Greenwich Chapter of the Newcomers Club at the YWCA, a member of the Greenwich Woman's Club, and a Junior Master Bridge player. She studied at the Art Students League of New York and worked as a clothing designer and painter while raising a family.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathie Pappas; and a son, Dr. John Pappas, and his wife, Dr. Lois McNally.
Friends may call today from 10:30 a.m. - noon at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home at 31 Arch Street in Greenwich. A funeral service will be held today at 12:30 p.m. at Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford St., in Stamford. Interment will follow at Putnam cemetery in Greenwich.

Catherine B. Pullen
Catherine "Kay" B. Pullen, 89, a Greenwich native, passed away on Feb. 8, 2010 at Greenwich Woods Health Care Center.
Pullen was born on Dec. 27, 1920 to Elizabeth and Patrick Brennan and was a longtime resident of Stamford. She also lived in New Canaan, Marco Island, Fla. and Royal Oak, Md.
Pullen married
William H. Cleary in 1942 and raised their four children. After Bill Sr.'s passing in 1960, Pullen started Mrs. Kay's Training Center, a Montessori program for four and five-year-olds. She also pursued her own education at the University of Oxford as well as the universities of Florence and Vienna.
Pullen was an original member of board of the representatives of Stamford and also served on the boards of education, St. John's Towers, St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, Catholic Mother's Circles, the Rehabilitation Center of Stamford, Sacred Heart University, and Hubbard Heights Garden Club.
In 1951, she was given the Christopher Award for her work having bronze plaques stating, "In God We Trust" installed in the then-18 public schools of Stamford.
She married
E. Markey Pullen, M.D. in 1975 and lived in New Canaan, Royal Oak, Md, and Marco Island, Fla. After her husband passed away in 1980, she returned to Stamford.
Pullen is survived by her brother, John P. Brennan of Greenwich and her four children: Carol C. Cusick of Tarrytown, N.Y. and grandchildren, Thomas and Catherine; William Cleary, his wife, Patricia of Hendersonville, N.C. and grandchildren, Megan and William Jr.; Albert Ward of Brooklyn, N.Y. and grandchildren, Albert Jr., Elizabeth and John; Mary Alice and husband, Craig R. Sanford, DDS of Nantucket, Mass. and grandchildren, Geoffrey and Christopher; and three great-grand-children: Sean, Mia and Ryan.
A memorial service will be held at The Basilica of Saint John the Evangelist on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 10:30 am.

Thor Henry Ramsing
Thor Henry Ramsing, 90, former U.S. Navy officer, competitive ocean racer and entrepreneur, died after a brief illness on February 13, 2010, at home in Palm Beach, Florida. Ramsing was also a longtime resident of Greenwich, and Edgartown, Massachussetts.
He was born on Sept. 16, 1919, in Grand Rapids, Mich. to Thor Utke and Neilsine Knudsen Ramsing. He received a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Oklahoma before joining the U.S. Navy in 1940.
During World War II Ramsing served as executive officer on U.S.S. PT-9, gunnery officer on the U.S.S. Stevenson and turret officer on the battleship USS New York. While based in New London, the Lt. Commander served on the staff of three admirals as operations officer, Staff Commander Submarines, Atlantic fleet.
After the war, Ramsing joined Chase Manhattan Bank in Manhattan as an account
executive and established an investment counseling practice two years later.
He was a management trainee at The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. at the same time.
While there he founded International Records Co. to purchase and distribute at store checkouts recordings of major symphonies, making classical music available at a budget price.
In the 50s, Ramsing founded Trident Oil Corporation, engaged in petroleum production, and Trident Marine Products, importer and distributor. Mr.
Ramsing then purchased the Allied Boat Company, and supervised the design of the
Seabreeze and Seawind, affordable family sailboats.
Ramsing's passion for sailing and ocean racing spanned more than 50 years. On his five yachts named Solution and under the flags of Indian Harbor Yacht Club, New York Yacht Club (NYYC) and Edgartown Yacht Club, he completed countless off-shore and ocean races, among them Newport to Bermuda (seventeen times); Bermuda to Copenhagen; Bermuda to Spain; the Fastnet; and Monaco to New York.
Major victories included the Southern Ocean Racing Circuit championship and the NYYC Astor Cup and Unicup. Ramsing was also a member of three America's Cup Syndicates.
He served as commodore of the Indian Harbor Yacht Club and Storm Trysail Club and was a trustee of the NYYC.
Ramsing's philanthropic interests benefited many charitable organizations, and he served on the boards of the Boys & Girls Club of New York; International Oceanographic Foundation; Joffrey Ballet; Just One Break; Greenwich Riding & Trails Association; National Art Museum of Sport; Perry Institute for Marine Science; South Street Seaport; and YMCA of Greenwich.
He is survived by four daughters: Martha R. Zoubek, of Greenwich; Cynthia R. McGinnes, of Chestertown, MD; Elizabeth R. Palmgren of Charlottesville, VA; and Karen Ramsing-Bixler of Kennett Square, PA; three grandchildren: Rollyn Z. Bornhorst, Christopher Zoubek and Krista Palmgren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Donald U. and Byron Lee Ramsing, and a sister, Jeanne R. Wold. His spouse of 62 years, Martha Wrightson Ramsing, died in 2004.
A celebration of life reception for family and friends will be held on April 29 from 4-6 p.m., at the Bath & Tennis Club in Palm Beach; and at the Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich on June 17 from 4-6 p.m.
