Bruce Cornelio, 79, resident's brother
Bruno Cornelio Sr., 79, brother of Rudolph Cornelio of South Salem, died on Tuesday, March 7, at his Highview Avenue home in Stamford, Conn.
He was born on Sept. 30, 1926 to the late Dominico and Angelina DeLuca Cornelio.
Mr. Cornelio was a former employee at Lenders Boat Yard and Yale and Towne, and a retired foreman for the city of Stamford Parks and Recreation Department. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and liked to travel.
In addition to Rudolph, Mr. Cornelio is survived by two sons, Bruno Jr. and his wife Theresa of Africa and John and his wife Angela of Stamford, Conn.; a daughter Pamela M. Cornelio; five grandchildren, Bryan, Bianca, Karla, Nicole, and John Jr. Cornelio; a sister Dorinda Traske of Wilton, Conn.; and two other brothers, Felice Cornelio of Pound Ridge and Michael Colarusso of Michigan.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Palmina Russo Cornelio and his brother Pasquale Cornelio.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, March 14, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stamford. Entombment followed at St. John's Mausoleum in Darien, Conn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Visiting Nurse Hospice Care, 1029 East Main Street, Stamford, CT 06902.
G. Gallagher-Rowan, 81, journalist
Genevieve Gallagher-Rowan, a journalist and former reporter at the Acorn Press newspapers, died Sunday in Munson Township, Ohio. She was 81 years old.
Mrs. Rowan grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and graduated from Chestnut Hill College, Philadelphia, on scholarship. She campaigned for the Ohio Senate in 1950, as an idealist who wished that more people would get involved in their community's governance, said her son, Hayes Rowan.
She and her husband, Russell C. Rowan, were married
in St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York City. They raised three children.
Over the years she was a police reporter for the former Heights Press, a reporter at Acorn Press - predecessor owner of this newspaper, and was an associate editor with Fairfield Citizen News.
While living in Connecticut, Mrs. Rowan set the cornerstone for the Westport Sister City Project, bringing together the Westports of southwest Connecticut and west-coastal Ireland.
For years Mrs. Rowan worked as an advocate for the humane reform of Ohio's probate code and the regulation of the nursing home industry.
The last five years of her life, she was at the center of a bitter custody battle between a court-appointed guardian and her youngest son.
Mrs. Rowan is survived by a daughter, Tracy Rowan of Norwalk, Conn; a son, Hayes Rowan of Cleveland, Ohio; a son, Russell Rowan of Vista, N.Y.; and two granddaughters and a nephew.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to a public library.
Katherine Kamke, 85, former resident
Katherine E. (Kay) Kamke, formerly of Katonah, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 16. She was 85.
Mrs. Kamke was born in New York City on June 9, 1920. She was the devoted wife of Burton Kamke, who predeceased her in 1983. She is survived by her son, Paul, and his wife, Gail, her grandchildren, Kristyn and Paulie of West Nyack, and her brother, Charles Hatfield. Services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home in West Nyack. Interment is in Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley.
Dennis Grady, 82, former resident
Dennis 'Herb' Grady died Feb. 14 at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, Conn. He was 63 and a former South Salem resident.
Mr. Grady was born April 8, 1942, the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Madras) Grady. Originally of Yonkers, he raised his three children with his wife of 39 years in South Salem.
He loved his family dearly and was a dedicated technologist and scientist. He was a diligent teacher and a loving father and husband, his family said. He was a fisherman, an entrepreneur, an inventor, and a hot rodder, who enjoyed the social and pensive atmosphere of a cigar and a Scotch.
He enjoyed life to the fullest and leaves his wife, Roberta, and his three children, Andrea, Alison and Dennis. 'Pappy' will also be missed by his grandchildren, Clelia, Macin, Jessica and Ava. He is also survived by a brother, Robert Grady, and was predeceased by another brother, Joseph Grady.
The funeral was held last week in Danbury and burial was at Wooster cemetery in Danbury.
Joseph Berardino, 86, World War II veteran
Joseph J. Berardino, a resident of Stamford, Conn., since 1999, passed away Sunday at his home. He was 86. Born Sept. 5, 1920, in Norwalk, Conn., he was the son of the late Michael and Rose Corio Berardino.
A graduate of St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vt., he was also a lieutenant in the Navy. During World War II, he saw action in the D-Day invasion on Utah Beach, as well as throughout the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and the Philippine liberation.
Mr. Berardino married
the former Gloria Gerace on Jan. 28, 1950; she predeceased him in June of 2004. While they raised their family in Garden City, he worked as an agent for State Farm Insurance in Franklin Square.
He is survived by his loving children and their spouses, Michael and Barbara of Katonah, Mary Ann and Edward Carey of Hawthorne, John and Regina of Fairfield, Conn., Joseph and Gail of Greenwich, Conn., and Peter and Joni of Austin, Texas. He also leaves his loving grandchildren, Eddie and Elaine Carey, and John, Justin, Timothy, Mary, Samantha, Michael, Andrea, Allison, Genevieve, Dominia, and Sophia Berardino; his sister, Antoinette Berardino of Rockaway Beach; and his brothers, Ronald of Garden City and Sabino of Manhattan.
The family received friends on Tuesday at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday at 11 at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Greenwich. Burial was at the Putnam cemetery in Greenwich.

Jewell Stuckert, former director of library
The Katonah Village Library trustees and staff would like to honor the life and dedication to the community of Jewell Stuckert. She died on Friday, Sept. 22.
Mrs. Stuckert served as the director of the Katonah Village Library from 1988 until June 14, 1997. In all, she worked for the library for 38 years. She later earned a degree in library science with honors from the Columbia University School of Library Services.
Mrs. Stuckert was a member of Blue Mountain Housing Development Corp. from January 1984 to January 1997. Blue Mountain was created by the Bedford Town Board to produce governmentally assisted housing. Mrs. Stuckert was instrumental in the renovation of the Doyle House on North Katonah Avenue and setting up the lottery for occupants.
In the nearly four decades she worked at the library, she provided a blend of excellent leadership skills, including concern for patrons. She was passionate about extending and maintaining the quality and comprehensive library collection.
Mrs. Stuckert created the first children's room library space. She worked as a children's librarian, a reference librarian and a young adult librarian prior to serving as director. Mrs. Stuckert was instrumental in supplying the leadership and vision for the library's major expansion in 1990.
A private memorial service will be held. The family is asking that memorial donations be made to the Katonah Village Library.
