Edith Guilmette, 82, of South Salem
Edith G. Guilmette of South Salem, formerly of the Bronx, died at her home on Oct. 3. She was 82.
Born June 1, 1924, in the Bronx to Louis and Etta (Belive) Salcito, she was a school crossing guard for the New York City police department for 20 years.
One of her favorite pastimes was cheering on her lifelong favorite team, the New York Yankees.
She was a devoted wife for 35 years to the late Roland, and loving mother of Kim and her husband, Peter DeLucia of South Salem; Richard and his wife, Peggy Guilmette of East Stroudsburg, Pa., and Robert Guilmette and fianc'e, Florence Ruggiero of Whitestone. She was an adoring grandmother of Justin and Lauren DeLucia; Richard, Robert, Danielle and Desiree, and great-grandson, Jordan. She is also survived by a sister, Camille Salcito of New York City, wife of the late John Salcito.
The family will receive friends at the Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Matthias RC Church, Bedford Hills, on Friday, at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, Hawthorne.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Alfred W. Cogswell Jr., 55, handyman
Alfred Wesley Cogswell Jr. of Ansonia, Conn., died on Sept. 26. He was 55 and the brother of a South Salem resident.
Born in Norwalk, Conn., son of the late Alfred Wesley Cogswell Sr. and Marjorie Williams Cogswell, Mr. Cogswell was a longtime resident of Norwalk and graduated from Brien McMahon High School there in 1969.
A handyman and cook by profession, he also graduated in May 1996 from the Connecticut Culinary School in Waterbury, Conn.
He is survived by two brothers and three sisters: Marjorie Molnar of Milford, Conn., Harold Cogswell of Norwalk, Margaret Maillet of Ansonia, Richard Cogswell of Stratford, Conn., and Olive Gonzalezz of South Salem; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by William Cogswell of Jacksonville, Fla., and Thomas Cogswell of Norwalk.
A memorial service will be held today at 6 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 719 West Avenue, Norwalk.
Burial will be private in Riverside Cemetery.
Frank Cerullo, 84, father of resident
Frank Cerullo, a lifelong resident of New Canaan, Conn., died Sunday, Oct. 29, at Honey Hill Care Center in Norwalk, Conn. He was 84 years old.
He was born in New Canaan on May 16, 1922, the son of the late Joseph and Marianna Musto Cerullo, and served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific for three years (1942-45) during World War II. He was a sergeant and was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a bronze service star after the battles for New Guinea and Luzon.
His wife was the late Sophie Raitzka Cerullo.
Survivors include a daughter, Maria DeCarlo of Vista; two sons, John Cerullo of New Canaan and Frank Cerullo of Ridgefield, Conn.; three grandchildren, Michael Cerullo, Tanya Cerullo and Melissa DeCarlo; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial is being celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Aloysius R.C. Church, Cherry Street. Burial will be in Margaretville cemetery tomorrow.
Michael Gustafson, 50, former resident
Michael Homes Gustafson died on Oct. 18 at the Upstate Hospice in Anderson, S.C. He was 50.
Mr. Gustafson was born on Dec. 10, 1955, and grew up in Cross River. He was a soldier in the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Vietnam War. While in the army, he was stationed for some time in Hawaii, where he served as an instrument worker, working with lasers and optics on tanks and artillery. He was discharged with honors in 1976.
Mr. Gustafson earned his high school diploma from Wahiawa in 1976. He also had 15 years of college education, having spent time at Southeastern College and Brunswick College, both in North Carolina.
He was a volunteer at VA hospitals in New York and North Carolina.
'He was a wonderful husband, ' said his wife, Lavenia. His hobbies included fishing and 'just plain company and having friends visit, ' she said.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Gustafson is survived by three children, Jennifer Marie Gustafson, Michael Thor Gustafson and Samantha Jean Gustafson; two stepsons, Andy Blackwell of Columbia, S.C., and his wife, Melissa, and William Blackwell and his wife, Melinda; five grandchildren, Jessica Marie Gustafson, Jessica Blackwell, Drew Blackwell, Alex Blackwell, and Derick Blackwell; a brother, Leo Gustafson of Lewisboro; and an aunt and uncle, Carol Gustafson and Thor Gustafson, both of New Jersey.
Memorial services are on Sunday at 4 at the chapel at the Upstate Hospice in Anderson, S.C.

Edith A. Owen, 79, former resident
Edith A. Owen died on Oct. 14 following a brief illness. She was 79.
Ms. Owen was born in Stamford, Conn., on May 1, 1927 and was the daughter of the late William Erskine and Adeline Florence Kelly.
She was a longtime resident of Stamford before moving to Lewisboro with her husband and children. She graduated from Stamford High School in 1945. She was a nurse at Stamford Hospital.
While living in Lewisboro, she was the manager of a local bank. Ms. Owen then moved to Barefoot Bay, Fla., in 1985, where she pursued a career in real estate. She was very active in the community, a good friend to many and enjoyed living in Florida. She was a member of the Ladies Red Hat Club and enjoyed playing cards with her friends in Barefoot Bay.
Ms. Owen is predeceased by her husband, Douglas Everett Owen, and a brother, Billy Kelly.
She is survived by five children, Susan Owen Lee of Stamford, Douglas Owen of Morrisville, Vt., Beverly Owen Lier of Vero Beach, Fla., Melinda Owen Bailey of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Allison Owen Smith of Indianapolis, Ind. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Ms. Owen will be remembered for her extreme talent in crafts, painting and sewing and for being a wonderful and giving mother and friend.
Services will be held at her home on Saturday, Nov. 4, at noon, at 1363 Gardenia Drive, Barefoot Bay, FL 32976. At Ms. Owen's request her ashes will be taken to Scotland for her final resting place.
Joseph Berardino, 86, World War II veteran
Joseph J. Berardino, a resident of Stamford, Conn., since 1999, passed away Sunday at his home. He was 86. Born Sept. 5, 1920, in Norwalk, Conn., he was the son of the late Michael and Rose Corio Berardino.
A graduate of St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vt., he was also a lieutenant in the Navy. During World War II, he saw action in the D-Day invasion on Utah Beach, as well as throughout the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and the Philippine liberation.
Mr. Berardino married
the former Gloria Gerace on Jan. 28, 1950; she predeceased him in June of 2004. While they raised their family in Garden City, he worked as an agent for State Farm Insurance in Franklin Square.
He is survived by his loving children and their spouses, Michael and Barbara of Katonah, Mary Ann and Edward Carey of Hawthorne, John and Regina of Fairfield, Conn., Joseph and Gail of Greenwich, Conn., and Peter and Joni of Austin, Texas. He also leaves his loving grandchildren, Eddie and Elaine Carey, and John, Justin, Timothy, Mary, Samantha, Michael, Andrea, Allison, Genevieve, Dominia, and Sophia Berardino; his sister, Antoinette Berardino of Rockaway Beach; and his brothers, Ronald of Garden City and Sabino of Manhattan.
The family received friends on Tuesday at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday at 11 at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Greenwich. Burial was at the Putnam cemetery in Greenwich.
