Everdell Finch, 88, former resident

Everdell William Finch died at his home in Eclectic, Ala., on Feb. 14. It was the 64th anniversary of the first time he met the woman who would become his wife. He was 88, and a retired major in the Air Force.

Maj. Finch was born in Greenwich, Conn., in 1918, and grew up in Brookhaven, Long Island, and Bedford.

He was a navigator/bombardier in the Army Air Corps (now Air Force) during World War II and flew in B-17 campaigns and combat in the air offensives in Normandy, northern and southern France, the Balkans, Rome-Arno, Appenines, Rhineland and Po Valley. He was wounded in combat over Italy and received the Purple Heart. He also received the EAME Ribbon with nine battle stars, air medal, as well as other decorations. Maj. Finch served in the Air Force Reserves for 20 years.

After World War II, Maj. Finch and his family were residents of Spring Street in South Salem for more than 40 years. There, he operated a working dairy farm known as Brookside Farm until the mid-1960s. He was requested by the town to join the original Lewisboro Police Department and wore Badge No. 1 until his retirement from the force in l983.

Maj. Finch is survived by his wife, Avis Gray Finch - the couple would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in August of this year. He is also survived by his children, Marjorie June McCammon and her husband, John; Fred Finch; Avis Reid and her husband, Lacson; and Amy Sansone and her husband, Felix. Other survivors include his grandchildren, John Mark McCammon, Peter Finch, Daniel Reid and Rebecca Reid. Maj. Finch was expecting the arrival of a great-grandchild this spring.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Finch has requested donations be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church, Major E.W. Finch Scholarship Fund, US Highway 231, Wetumpka, AL 36092.

Maj. Finch was buried at Pine Flat Presbyterian cemetery in a family plot alongside his aunt, Helena Stillman, and the ancestors of his wife.

Thomas Jay Scribner, 71, of Lewisboro

Thomas Jay Scribner of Lewisboro died on Friday, March 16. He was 71.

Mr. Scribner was born in Stamford, Conn., the son of the late Ruth Morris and G. Frederick Scribner in 1935. He attended Stamford schools, and graduated from Chincoteaque High School in Chincoteague, Va., where he earned several awards for running track and was a member of the football team. He attended East Carolina College and served two years with the U.S. Army in Mainz, Germany.

For the past 22 years, Mr. Scribner was a builder in the Fairfield County and Westchester County area and was a member of CT Carpenter’s Union Local 210.

He enjoyed golf and was an avid sports fan, particularly of football and basketball.

Mr. Scribner was a communicant of St. Matthew Church in Norwalk, Conn., and served as an usher there for several years. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and was the current deputy grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1852 in Mount Kisco.

Mr. Scribner is survived by his wife, Joan Marinella Scribner; daughters Susan Lynne Tassitano of Cumming, Ga., and Beth Scribner Boyland of Bedford; four grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn and Joseph Tassitano of Cumming, Ga., and Julia Maureen and William Thomas Boyland of Bedford; brothers Robert Scribner of Mystic, Conn., and Frederick Scribner of New Milford, Conn.; sister Mary Stone of Indianapolis, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were on Wednesday, March 21, at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today at 10:30, at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk. Entombment will follow at St. John’s R.C. cemetery in Norwalk.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06854 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Dorothy Pinori, 82, former resident

Dorothy Irene Odell Pinori of Greenwich, N.Y., died on Sunday, March 18, at her home. She was 82 and a former Goldens Bridge resident.

Born on March 29, 1924 in New York City, she was the daughter of Bradford I. and Cornelia Todd Hunt Odell.

Ms. Pinori was a graduate of Katonah High School in Katonah and had been employed for the New York Telephone Company and AT&T, retiring in 1991.

She was married to Arthur J. Pinori from 1950 until his death in 1979. She moved to Greenwich in 1992.

Ms. Pinori was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Greenwich Elks Lodge Auxiliary, St. Paul’s Church in Greenwich and a member of the Women of St. Paul’s. She was a familiar face at the Stewarts Store in Greenwich.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna Fallon of New Milford, Conn., her son, Peter Pinori of Cambridge, Mass.; grandsons, Sean Fallon of New Milford and Arthur Pinori of New York City; granddaughter, Paige Pinori of Greenwich; brothers, Bradford Odell of Greenwich and Donald Odell of Boise, Idaho; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Celia and Joseph Angelello of Mamaroneck; and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 today, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Greenwich with Allen Peyton, Rector officiating. Entombment will be tomorrow at 1:30 at the Ferncliff Cemetery.

Anna Orsenigo, 95, mother of residents

Anna “Nina” Orsenigo of Somers died on March 3. She was 95 and the mother of Fran Dowling of Katonah and Gene Orsenigo III of Goldens Bridge.

Ms. Orsenigo was born in Mount Vernon, and was the daughter of Emanuel and Carmella Cuzzi. She was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville and Katharine Gibbs Business School in New York City. She was active in school and church affairs as the third grade and sixth grade class mother. She was also on the PTA board of Mt. Vernon’s Traphagen School. Ms. Orsenigo was a grade parent with her husband for the classes of 1960 and 1966 at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, and a teacher’s aide at Primrose Elementary School in Somers. She was a member of the Altar Society at the Church of St. John and St. Mary in Chappaqua.

Ms. Orsenigo is survived by her husband, Eugene Orsenigo Jr., of Somers, four children and their spouses. In addition to Ms. Dowling and her husband, Jim, and Mr. Orsenigo and his wife, Linda, Ms. Orsenigo is survived by Nina and Bob Keane of Trumbull, Conn., and Carol and Jim Ambury of Somers. Eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Frances Cambère of Somers and Rita Kenedy of Saranac Lake, also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Joseph’s Church in Croton Falls on March 6.

Edith Carpentieri, 95, resident’s mother

Edith N. Carpentieri died of natural causes at Wilton Meadows in Wilton, Conn., on Wednesday, Feb. 28. She was 95 and the mother of Frank Carpentieri of South Salem.

Born in Manhattan on Dec. 27, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Dominick and Carmella (nee Pascareli) Nigro.

She lived in Manhattan until moving to Staten Island where she married Nicholas J. Carpentieri on Sept. 15, 1934. They moved to White Plains where she spent most of her adult life. She was a wonderful mother and devout Catholic, said her family.

Ms. Carpentieri began working at the White Plains Public Library where she worked until she was 70 years old. After that, she worked part time in a law office until she was 80.

In addition to Mr. Carpentieri, she leaves another son, Dominick Carpentieri of Marietta, Ga.; two daughters, Josephine Leighton of Edinburgh, Scotland, and Mary Ann Lutz of Wilton; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday at St. Mary’s Church in Ridgefield, Conn., and burial followed in Middle Patent Cemetery, Bedford.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Anne Savage, 63, former resident

Anne Doyle “Anndee” Savage of Waynesville, N.C., died on Feb. 26 at Bay Path Nursing Home in Duxbury, Mass. She was 63 and a former resident of Cross River.

She grew up in Bay Shore, and was the eldest daughter of the late Joseph Francis Savage Jr. and Mary Flaherty Savage. Ms. Savage spent her youth sailing, swimming, dancing and playing tennis. She raised her family in Cross River and Pittsford, Vt. Most recently, she lived with her beloved sister Ellen in Waynesville, where she was an active member of Grace Church in the Mountains. Her great loves were animals, music, entertaining, Vermont and, above all, her family.

Ms. Savage is survived by two daughters, Gretchen van Eyck of New York City and Catherine van Eyck of Nantucket, Mass.; four sons, Alexander D. van Eyck of San Francisco, Calif., Christopher van Eyck of Boston, Mass., James van Eyck of New York City and Edmund Michael van Eyck of Winhall, Vt.; her sister, Ellen Savage of Waynesville; and two brothers, Joseph “Jeff” Savage of Litchfield, Conn., and Peter Savage of Duxbury, Mass.

Memorials may be made to the Food Pantry of Grace Church in the Mountains, 394 N.
