Nancy F. Salta
Nancy F. Salta, 88 of Norwalk, died peacefully with her family by her side on Jan. 20 at Notre Dame Convalescent Home. Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Angelina (Correnti) Gulla. A devout Catholic and loving family woman, she was loved and adored by her late husband, Salvatore T Salta for more than 66 years. She was also predeceased by daughter, Angela Salta, and her sister, Jennie Meli. She is survived by her daughter, Marie C. Besson; her son, Salvatore Salta, both of Norwalk; four grandchildren, Greg Besson and his wife, Emily of Norwalk, Stephanie Besson of Norwalk, Elliott Salta of Hamden and Anthony Salta of Norwalk. Anthony Vincent Scianna
Anthony Vincent Scianna, 96, of Norwalk, died Jan. 23, at the Norwalk Hospital. He was the husband of the late Rose Tuozzolo Scianna. Born in Bridgeport on July 8, 1913, he was the son of the late Girolamo and Rosa Scianna. He worked as an auto mechanic for 15 years before enlisting in the United States Navy during World War II. He served aboard the light cruiser USS Pasadena in the Western Pacific. His ship was active in numerous battles, including Iwo Jima and the Marshall islands. Returning home he continued to work as a mechanic in local garages, including Karsten's Chrysler-Plymouth and the infamous Edsel Dealership. He is survived by his only son Anthony J. Scianna and his wife Karen Leone Scianna, their two sons Lt. James Scianna of Alexandria, Va. and Adam Scianna of Norwalk, and many nieces and nephews.

Thomas F. Stack
Thomas F. Stack, 81, of Vineland and Tabernacle, N.J., died Jan.19, after a long battle with illness.
He grew up in Norwalk, where his father, Frank, was mayor and owned and operated the Stack Hats Company. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the 1st Calvary Division of the Armed Forces. He worked selling electrical supplies for Klaff's Inc. for many years. He survived his first wife, Marian Budin Stack after 32 years of marriage. He was married
to his second wife, the late Virginia T. Cramer-Stack for 20 years. They resided in Vincentown, N.J..
Stack was predeceased by his sisters, Rosemary Stack McMahon (Donald) of Norwalk and Dorothea Stack Monahan (Thomas) of Seattle, Wash. He is survived by his brother, Patrick Stack and his wife Barbara of Brookfield; his stepson, Douglas A. Cramer and his wife Connie of Tabernacle, N.J.; his grandchildren, Stephen Cramer and Jessica (Michael) Halpin; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Josephine Ganung, 77, former Katonah resident
Josephine “Jo” Ganung of Daytona Beach, Fla. died in Danbury, Conn. on Tuesday, Aug. 28 of leukemia. She was 77 and a former longtime resident of Katonah.
Born Josephine Desole in Mount Kisco on Aug. 4, 1930, Ms. Ganung was the daughter of Joseph and Antoinette Desole. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Katonah and, after graduation, took business classes before working for the Empire Carpet Company in New York City.
She married
Robert “Bob” Ganung of Katonah on Oct. 5, 1952. They had been married
for 55 years.
The Ganungs raised their family in Katonah. They were active in the community and in their churches: St. Luke’s Episcopal in Katonah, Katonah United Methodist Church and, most recently, the Daytona Beach United Methodist Church. Ms. Ganung worked for the Reader’s Digest in Pleasantville for 20 years.
Ms. Ganung was a friend and supporter of all, her family said, and she loved to entertain, travel and was a great cook, an avid bowler, golfer and bridge player. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was always quick to smile, to hug and to help, and was a loving and dynamic woman, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, her family said.
The Ganungs retired in 1988 and moved to Daytona Beach, Fla., in 1995.
In addition to her husband, Ms. Ganung is survived by her daughter, Donna Ornstein and her husband, David, of South Salem; her sons, Robert Ganung and his wife, Catherine, of Watertown, Conn., and Steven Ganung and his wife, Cynthia, of Ridgefield, Conn.; her six grandchildren, Elisabeth Ganung of Rome, Italy, Kate Ornstein of Burlington, Vt., Ted Ganung of Honolulu, Hawaii, Kelly Ornstein of South Salem, and Steven and Robert “Tory” Ganung of Ridgefield, Conn.; her brothers, Samuel Desole of Poughkeepsie, and Daniel Desole of Saugerties; and her sister, Jean Osbourne, of Sebring, Fla. She was predeceased by her sisters Madeline DeRosa and Helen Coutant. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
The wake was held last week at the Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah. Funeral services were held at the Katonah United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 1, with burial following at Union Valley Cemetery.

Edna L’Eplattenier, 82, formerly of Katonah
Edna May Willis L’Eplattenier died on Wednesday, June 13. She was 82 and a former resident of Katonah.
Born and raised in New York City, her first job was for the war effort as a sheet metal worker for Republic, manufacturing P-47 fighter planes. After the war, she lived, raised her family and worked most of her life in Katonah as a bookkeeper for Northern Westchester Hospital’s gift shop and Katonah Art Gallery, a Realtor and a secretary in the tax assessor’s office for the town of New Castle. She and her husband later retired to Rindge, N.H.
Most important in her life was her family, and for this she will be profoundly missed, they said.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred, of nearly 65 years; two sons, Skip L’Eplattenier and his wife, Gillian, of Armonk; Dick L’Eplattenier and his wife, Lynn, of Trussville, Ala.; a daughter, Nadine Gibson and her husband, Travis, of Hoover, Ala.; a sister, Florence Wilson and her husband, Tom, of Cape Coral, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Ray Lowery Jr., Chase, Chad and Aimee L’Eplattenier.
The Rev. Carol Matteson Cox will officiate at the memorial service at noon on Sunday, Sept. 16, at Katonah United Methodist Church.
Susan Maldacker, 59, former resident
Susan Elizabeth Maldacker died at her home in Lake Purdy on Tuesday, Aug. 7. She was 59. Ms. Maldacker died with her husband, a brother and sister by her bedside, after a long battle with cancer.
Ms. Maldacker died as she lived, surrounded by her family and friends, to whom she devoted her life. She and her husband of 37 years, Henry, raised two children.
In addition to her husband, Ms. Maldacker is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Maldacker of Hopewell Junction; son, Matthew Maldacker of Lake Purdy; two brothers, John M. Rummler, of Kittery Point, Maine, and Robert E. Rummler, of Boston; her sister, Barbara Rummler, of Sanford, Maine; her niece, Sarah Howarth, of Gloucester, Mass.; as well as several cousins, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Ms. Maldacker attended Lewisboro Elementary School and John Jay High School, and attended Emerson College in Boston.
She was a registered nurse, and spent more than 35 years caring for her patients. Her most recent employment was with the Putnam County Department of Health in Carmel. She earned her bachelor of science and her registered nurse certification at the United Hospital School of Nursing in Port Chester. She was a member of several professional organizations, including the American Nurses’ Association, and she was also a certified plastic surgical nurse.
Ms. Maldacker was a voracious reader, and her family members maintained a long tradition of visiting with big bags of books to exchange. She enjoyed horseback riding, and took trail-riding trips to France, Wyoming and Nova Scotia with her close friends.
A memorial service for Ms. Maldacker will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m., at the United Methodist Church of Purdys, 106 Titicus Road, North Salem. Her family will spread her ashes at sea off Portsmouth, N.H., on Sept. 29.

Matthew Schall, 21, former resident
Matthew William Schall of New Fairfield, Conn. died on Aug. 1 after an automobile accident. He was 21 and a former resident of Lewisboro.
Mr. Schall was born Sept. 15, 1985, the son of William and Stephanie (Di Martino) Schall, in Mount Kisco.
He graduated from New Fairfield High School in 1999. Mr. Schall attended Western Connecticut State University and was currently enrolled at Central Connecticut State University studying construction management. He worked at Gil’s Auto Repair in New Fairfield to assist with his college education.
Mr. Schall’s family said he will be remembered for his love of Jeep Wranglers, wakeboarding, and taking care of his reptiles and amphibians.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Schall is survived by his sisters, Christine Schall of New Fairfield and Emily Schall of New Fairfield; a brother, Michael of New Fairfield; grandmother Stella Di Martino; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
A mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday at St. Edward the Confessor. Church interment followed at the Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Troop 137, 1 Frisbee Street, New Fairfield, CT 06812.
Richard D. Sikorsky, 43, grew up in South Salem
Richard D. Sikorsky of Plainfield, Conn. died on Friday, July 27 at his home. He was 43 and a former resident of South Salem, where he grew up.
Born in the Bronx, Mr. Sikorsky is the son of the late Stephen D. and Helen M. (Przybilla) Sikorsky.
He worked as a warehouse manager for many years at Colibri Corporation in Cranston, RI.
Mr. Sikorsky is survived by his former wife, Lisa, his two children, Matthew D. and Kristen D. of West Warwick, R.I., a brother, Stephen K. of Coventry, R.I., a sister, Deborah L. Howes of Hope, R.I., and his nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Robert A. Iannotti Funeral Home at 415 Washington St. in Coventry, R.I. with a funeral service to follow at 7. Burial will be private.
