Anna M. Diamantini
The death of Anna M. Diamantini, 58, of Brookfield, occurred at the Danbury Hospital Saturday after a sudden illness. She was the wife of Augusto O. Diamantini.

Born in Rome, Italy, August 2, 1940, daughter of Settimio and Annunziata Massi Osimanti, she came to this country in 1956 and settled in Norwalk. She was a graduate of Norwalk High School, Class of 1958.

She had been a resident of Brookfield for the past 22 years. She had been employed as a Day Care Provider at Kinder Care in Bethel for the past 2 years. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Brookfield.

Besides her husband she is survived by a son, Emilio P. Diamantini of Brookfield, a daughter, Nancy K. Woolfrey of Oxford, CT, a brother, Pietro Osimanti of Bethel, 3 sisters, Silvana Pinto of Rome, Italy, Sandra Prizio of Norwalk and Gabriella Sheehan of Palm Bay, Fla., 2 grandchildren, Christopher Woolfrey and Sarah Woolfrey both of Oxford and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Brookfield, Thursday morning at 10:00.

Interment will be in Central Cemetery, Brookfield.

There are no calling hours.

The Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Rd., Brookfield, is in charge of arrangements.

Josephine Maher
Josephine Maher, 98, formerly of Yonkers, NY died Saturday at St. Joseph's Manor in Trumbull, CT after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Henry Maher.

Mrs. Maher was born in Dungarvan, Ireland on Feb. 1, 1901, a daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Fahey French. She emigrated to the United States in 1925 and was a longtime Yonkers resident. Mrs. Maher was a former member of St. Joseph's Church in Yonkers.

An accomplished violinist and pianist, Mrs. Maher played accompaniments for silent films in Ireland during the early part of the century.

Survivors include one son: Bernard of Ridgefield, CT. One daughter: Patricia Graham of Barrington, IL. 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Maher was predeceased by two children: Josephine and Harry Maher.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield with the Rev. Robert P. Morrissey, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings, NY.

Friends will be received on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah St., Ridgefield, Ct.

Angel O. Sanango
The death of Angel O. Sanango, 28, of Old State Road, New Milford, occurred Sunday morning from injuries sustained after being struck by an auto in New Milford.

He was born in Biblian, Ecuador January 7, 1971, son of Abraham and Guadalupe Fernandez Sanango and received his education in Ecuador. He came to the United States 5 years ago.

He had been employed as a cook at the Windmill Diner in New Milford and also as an automobile painter.

Besides his parents of Ecuador, he is survived by 6 brothers, Joaquin and Jose Sanango of New Milford, Diego, Fabian, Martin and Juan Sanango all of Ecuador, 3 sisters, Marta, Dolores and Guadalupe Sanango all of Ecuador and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted in Ecuador.

Friends may call at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield Tuesday evening from 6 to 8:00.

Helen J. Korczynski
Helen J. Korczynski, age 89, formerly of Ridgefield and Monroe, died Feb. 13, 1999 in Hewwitt Memorial Hospital in Shelton. She was the widow of the late Joseph Korczynski. Complete arrangements to be announced by the Lesko-Miner Funeral Home, 155 Main Street, Monroe.

Dorothy Sheeran
Dorothy Sheeran, 75, a resident of Katonah, N.Y. since 1954, died Feb. 11, 1999, at her home.

She was the wife of John Sheeran and the late Jack Simon.

Born in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y., March 22, 1923, she was the daughter of Alice (Morton) McAdams of Pearl River, N.J. and the late John McAdams. She was educated in Walton High School, the Bronx, N.Y.

Before her retirement in 1989, Mrs. Sheeran had been employed for 25 years as a cosmetician for the Katonah Pharmacy, Katonah, N.Y. Prior to Katonah Pharmacy, she worked at Valentino's Pharmacy in Mt. Kisco, N.Y. Prior to that she worked for six years at Time/Life in New York City, and she also worked as a technician on bombsights for Sperry-Gyro during WW II.

She was a member of the Katonah Lionettes and was a communicant of St. Mary's RC Church in Katonah and St. Thomas RC Church in Cherry Valley, N.Y.

She loved plants, flowers and gardening. She enjoyed old movies and swing music.

Besides her husband and mother, Mrs. Sheeran is survived by two sons, John Sheeran of Danbury, Conn. and Thomas Sheeran of Lewiston, N.Y.; a sister, Eleanor Harris of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and five grandchildren.

The funeral service was held on Monday at St. Mary's RC Church, Katonah. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery, Mt. Kisco, N.Y.

Clark Associates Funeral Home, Katonah, was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Stebbins Walbridge Bailey
Elizabeth Stebbins (Walbridge) Bailey, 95, of Sherman, Conn., took her final bow in peaceful sleep Feb. 14, 1999. She was the widow of Kennedy Brown Bailey whom she married in 1929, and born into a well-established East Side New York family on Aug. 10, 1903. She was the daughter of the late Mary Gilley Taylor and George Hicks Walbridge, and clearly remembered the days of white gloves and carriage rides down Park Avenue.

With interests in classical music of the European tradition, literature, theater and archaeology of the Roman Empire, Betty earned a degree in Art History at Vassar College, Class of 1926. Following graduation, Betty cruised around the world with her parents and visited exotic locales including Egypt, India, and Shanghai. Betty's appetite for adventure never wavered, traveling yearly and most recently (pushing ninety) to Antarctica, where her eyes landed on the one remaining continent she had yet to visit in her lifetime.

Betty lived in Sherman for more than 50 years where she was a founding member of the Sherman Players, producing and stage managing many plays over the years. Betty was an active supporter and volunteer at the Sherman library, the Sherman Historical Society, and was involved in civil defense during WWII. Betty was a regular contributor to the Sherman Sentinel, frequently on the subject of abandoned cats. She was a patron of the arts, with a special love of opera, the theater and ballet. She was known for joie de vivre, generosity and wit, and her life touched many who loved her dearly.

She leaves her three beloved cats, Sushi, Fat, and Fatter. In addition to her cats, Betty leaves her son, K. Bailey Walbridge, his wife, Janet (Shoring), and their daughter Elizabeth Shoring Walbridge of Branford; granddaughter Carolyn Mercedes (Bailey) Elmore and her husband Joseph, and great-grandchildren, Nathan, Jonathan, and Jason; grandson Kennedy Stephen Bailey, and his wife Nancy (Granger), and great-grandchildren, Shannon and Kennedy; grandson Wayne Walbridge Bailey and his wife Pam (Volle) and great-grandsons, Jarid and Kevin. Betty will be missed by her devoted former daughter-in-law, Inge (Schmidt-Baeumler) Bailey and many dear friends whothrough to the very endsaw to it her days were filled with lively discussion and warm companionship.

A memorial will be held at the Sherman Playhouse, Saturday, March 6 at 11 a.m. with a celebration of her life to follow at her home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sherman Library, Sherman Historical Society or the Sherman Players.

Henry Parmalee Sr.
Henry W. Parmalee Sr., 82, of Dittmar Dr., Bethel, formerly of Norwalk, died at Danbury Hospital on Feb. 15, 1999.

Mr. Parmalee was the husband of Katherine (Bruno) Parmalee.

He was born in Litchfield, Conn., May 16, 1916, a son of Ernest and Leida (Parmaley) Parmalee.

Mr. Parmalee was employed as a plasterer for Paul Horvath of Norwalk and then was employed by Perkin Elmer Corp. as a stock coordinator. He retired after 16 years of service.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Loretta Booth of Danbury and Kathryne Parmalee of Bethel; a son, Henry W. Parmalee Jr. of Norwalk; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at The First Assembly of God Church, 133 Junction Road, Brookfield, Conn. Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Darien, Conn.

Friends will be received at The First Assembly of God Church Tuesday from 5 pm to 8 pm. The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.

Frances Mrozinski
Frances A. Mrozinski died at her home, 4 Overlook Dr. in Danbury on Feb. 15, 1999 at the age of 78. She was the wife of the late Carl B. Mrozinski.

Mrs. Mrozinski was born in Danbury, May 12, 1921, daughter of Leo and Anna Jasnos Radlow. She was educated in Danbury Schools and maintained her home in Danbury all her life.

She was a member of St. Mary Church in Bethel.

She is survived by two sons, Richard and Lee (Leon) Mrozinski both of New Milford and her step-grandchildren, Steven, Puriscilla, Randy and Gregory Buturla and Andrea Harrington and Lori Ann Cyr; as well as seven step-great-grandchildren. Also her brother, Lee Radlow of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and her three sisters, Helen Cole of Redding, Mathilda Valluzzo of Danbury and Lucille Newton of Bethel, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Alice Palumbo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church in Bethel and burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

William Lockwood Sr.
William L. Lockwood Sr., 67, died unexpectedly at his home on Feb. 15, 1999.

Mr. Lockwood, of 17 Pond View Terrace, Danbury, was the husband of Caroline (Van Houten) Lockwood.

A lifetime area resident, he was born in Danbury, Conn., Oct. 24, 1931, a son of the late Edwin E. and Eliza (Dakin) Lockwood.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Lockwood was employed as a senior production foreman for Fairfield Processing. He had been with the company for 20 plus years.

He was a lifetime member of the Water Witch Hose Volunteer Fire Company and a member of the Bethel American Legion.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, William L. Lockwood Jr. and Edwin E. Lockwood, both of Danbury; a daughter, Carol Ann Taylor of Elizabeth Town, Ken.; two sisters, Mickey O'Brien of Oakland, N.J. and Frances Lockwood of Seymour, Conn.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.

Friends will be received at The Green Funeral Home Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Tina Goldman Kaplan
Tina Goldman Kaplan, 89, of 11 Crest Road, Danbury, wife of the late David Kaplan, died Feb. 12, 1999. Born in Stepney, CT, Nov. 18, 1909, the daughter of the late Jacob Goldman and Esther Nusbaum Goldman, she is survived by daughters Joan Halberstam of Fort Myers, Fla., and Barbara Leffer of Danbury, and a son, Martin Kaplan of Newington, CT. She also is survived by 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kaplan was a member of the United Jewish Center Synagogue of Danbury and its Sisterhood. She was a member of the Danbury Chapter of Haddassah and The Jewish Home for the Aged in Fairfield, as well as a member of the Auxiliary at Danbury Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held at the United Jewish Center, 141 Deer Hill Ave., Danbury, Tuesday morning at 11:00 o'clock with interment services to follow in the United Jewish Center Cemetery, Grays Bridge Road, Brookfield.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Kaplan Scholarship Fund in care of The United Jewish Center. A period of mourning will be observed at 11 Crest Road, Danbury, through Friday. The Robert E. Shure Funeral Home, New Haven, is in care of arrangements.

Paul F. Burns Sr.
Paul F. Burns Sr., 74, of New Milford, Conn., husband of Helen (Kittredge) Burns, died at Cedar Lane Rehabilitation Center in Waterbury, Conn. on Feb. 13, 1999.

He was born in Middletown, N.Y. on Nov. 11, 1924, son of the late Edward and Mildred (Byrne) Burns.

Mr. Burns was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, serving in the European theater. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was employed as an accountant for the State of Connecticut at Fairfield Hills Hospital, retiring after more than 30 years of service.

After retirement, Mr. Burns resided in Florida for 10 years before moving back to the greater Danbury area. Mr. Burns celebrated his 51st wedding anniversary on Feb. 7th.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Paul F. Burns of New Milford, Conn.; two daughters, Cheryl Stevenson of Northfield, Conn. and Barbara Seifert of Seattle, Wash.; two brothers, James of Newtown and Andrew of Stamford; three sisters, Mary Casazza of Watertown, Conn., Margaret Sanford of Bethel and Anita Samaha of Danbury; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Please omit flowers.

John J. Wilkalis
John J. Wilkalis, 96, formerly of Glen Apartments, Danbury, husband of the late Helen (Kwiatkowski) Wilkalis, died at Hancock Hall in Danbury on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999.

He was born on May 24, 1902 in Fall River, Mass., son of the late Matthew and Victoria (Lyzscarez) Wilkalis, and attended St. Peter School.

Mr. Wilkalis worked as a hatter at the former H. McLachlan Hat Company for more than 30 years and after their closing he worked in various other hat shops in Danbury. An avid duckpin bowler and pool player, he was known to have played against the world champion pool player, Ralph Greenleaf. He also played semi-professional baseball for the Danbury Mudhens, and he played for the former City League baseball team known as Maclans. Mr. Wilkalis was a member of Sacred Heart Church.

He is survived by his sons, John J. Wilkes and Francis A. Wilkes, both of Danbury; a brother, Lawrence Wilkalis of Danbury; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a niece and two nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in Danbury on Friday at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

Mildred Presti
Mildred Presti, age 90, died Monday, February 15, 1999 in Carmel, N.Y.

She was born April 5, 1908 in the Bronx, N.Y. to Paul and Eva Giordano DeLorenzo. She moved from the Bronx to Patterson, N.Y. in 1964. Her husband, George C. Presti, whom she married May 26, 1926 in New Jersey, died in 1964.

Mrs. Presti was a member of the Ladies Italian American Club in Brewster, The Putnam Lake Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and Sacred Heart Church in Putnam Lake. She worked as a matron for the Brewster Central School District for 15 years, retiring in 1979.

Mrs. Presti was a dear mother and good friend. She was special to all who knew her and she will be sorely missed but forever cherished in memory and heart till we meet again.

Mrs. Presti is survived by her two daughters, Catherine Zacks of Sarasota, Fla. and Paula Coniglio of New Fairfield, Conn., and by her daughter-in-law, Gloria Presti of Brewster. She was predeceased by her son, George J. Presti, who died on November 24, 1998. Mrs. Presti is also survived by her grandchildren, George Presti of Danbury, Conn., Steven Presti of Brewster, N.Y., Dianne Presti of Catskill, N.Y., Caryn Presti of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Toni Ann Presti of New York, N.Y., Robert and Larry Zacks of Mahopac, N.Y., Robert Coniglio of New Milford, Conn. and Toni Coniglio of New Fairfield, Conn.; and by five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, N.Y. on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church in Putnam Lake, N.Y. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence O'Toole Cemetery.

Arthur T. Schepis
Arthur T. Schepis, 79, of Danbury, husband of Marian (Ragusa) Schepis, died at his residence on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999.

Mr. Schepis was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Aug. 10, 1919. He attended Brooklyn schools and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He was a retired plumber of Union Local 21 of Yonkers, N.Y.

A resident of Kent, N.Y. for 30 years prior to moving to Danbury recently, he was an avid horseman and began participating in competitive team roping after his retirement as the oldest competitor and with much success.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by three daughters, Verna Davis of Kirkland, Wash., Rosanne Schepis and her husband Donald Huntington as well as Janet Harner and her husband David Harner, all of Danbury. Four grandchildren, Karenbeatrice Porcher Cantelli, Dennis Davis, Harrison Harner and Avery Harner also survive as well as his horse, J.R. He is also survived by two brothers and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield, Connecticut. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

Friends will be received in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Jayne M. Holmes
Jayne M. Holmes, "Lady Jayne," 73, of 30 George St., Danbury, wife of the late Robert Holmes, died at her residence on Tuesday morning, Feb. 16, 1999.

She was born in Bethel on Nov. 4, 1925, daughter of the late Michael and Jennie (DeLuca) Shaker. She was a graduate of Danbury High School and had attended Western Connecticut State University and Central Connecticut State University.

Mrs. Holmes was a licensed hairdresser. She had taught hairdressing at the Americo School of Beauty for many years and later became the first teacher of hairdressing at Henry Abbott Technical School in Danbury and the first department head of Cosmetology and Hairdressing at Henry Abbott.

Mrs. Holmes had been very active in Democratic politics on the local level. She had served as a member of the Democratic Town Committee for over 25 years, serving as the Sixth Ward chairman and being actively involved on many campaign committees. She had served as a delegate to numerous local and state conventions and also had been elected for several terms as a constable for the City of Danbury, and also served several terms as a justice of the peace.

She was a member of St. Ann Melkite Church in Danbury, St. Ann's Ladies Guild, the Lebanon-American Club Auxiliary, the American Federation of Teachers, the AARP, the MA'ASSER Charitable Society and the Danbury Democratic Women's Club.

Mrs. Holmes also had served as a volunteer for the Cerebral Palsy Telethons, the Muscular Dystrophy Telethons and the Arthritis "Jingle Bell" Walkathon. She had also been honored by the Danbury Democratic Town Committee in 1979 as "Mrs. Democrat" at the annual Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner.

Jayne is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lila Shaker and Barbara and Patrick Archieri of Danbury, and several nieces and nephews, including her care-giving nieces, Dawn and Patty Ann, and her friend and caregiver, "Bindu."

Funeral services will be held at St. Ann Melkite Church, Danbury on Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 West St., Danbury on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
