Barbara Kissock Sullivan
Entered into rest eternal July 1, 2006, Barbara Janet Kissock Sullivan, 62, of 47 Homestead Ave., Hamden. Wife of John Richard Sullivan; mother of Robert J. (wife Maureen) Sullivan of Hebron, and Scott R. Sullivan of Hamden; grandmother of Gehrig, Riley Clare and Brian Sullivan; and sister of Allen Kissock of North Branford. Born in New Haven March 29, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Clara Allen Kissock. Barbara was a former member of the Hamden Jr. Woman's Club.
Friends are invited to go directly to the Church of St. Rita on Thursday to attend a Mass at 10 a.m.
Calling hours will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hamden Memorial Funeral Home, 1300 Dixwell Ave. Burial will take place in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
Henry J. McCloskey
Entered into rest eternal June 21, 2006, Henry J. McCloskey, 85, of 1450 Whitney Ave. (formerly of Battis Road), Hamden. Husband of Patricia Moroney McCloskey; father of Lind (John) Remmele of Cheshire, Kathleen (Louis) Pressman of Lakeville, Nora (Richard) Nuclo of Hamden, Sheila (John Uljens) McCloskey of Branford, Maurna (Thomas) Aquila of Hamden, Megan McCloskey of Wallingford and the late Deirdre M. McCloskey; grandfather of Emily Pressman, Michael, John and Caitlin Nuclo, Mallory, Thomas and Sarah Aquila; brother of the late Gertrude Gans and William McCloskey. Henry also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Born August 13, 1920, in Greenwich Village, NYC, he was a son of the late Harry McCloskey and Mary Fallon Maxwell. Henry was a graduate of Haldane High School in Cold Spring and attended the University of Illinois. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was formerly employed at Marlin Firearms in Hamden, and Deep-Hole Drill & Danjon of Cheshire.
Funeral at Hamden Memorial, 1300 Dixwell Ave., Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with a mass at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday morning from 8:30 to 9:30. Burial with military honors will follow in Tabor Lutheran cemetery in Branford. John E. Warner
Entered into rest eternal, June 8, 2006. John E. Warner, 84, of 1075 Sherman Ave., Hamden. Husband of Joyce Orser Warner; father of Carl A. Warner of Hamden and the late Peter Warner; brother of Howard D. Warner of Avoca, N.Y., and the late Frank H. Warner; also survived by one niece and six nephews. Born in Hamden, Sept. 19, 1921, he was a son of the late Douglas Ford and Catherine Hindinger Warner.
John was the co-owner of D.F. Warner Company Mason Contractors for over 50 years before his retirement. John was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of Cheshire Grange #23, charter member and past master of Hamden Grange #99, a past master of New Haven County Pomona Grange, member of the State and National Grange; member of the Mix District Volunteer Fire Co. #7, the Hamden Coin Club, a lifelong member of Hamden Plains Methodist Church, the Hamden Rotary and a member of the board of directors of Hamden Plains Cemetery, as well as the sexton for 20 years and an avid bowler.
Friends may call at Hamden Memorial, 1300 Dixwell Ave., on Sunday from 4 p.m.-6 p.m., with Grange Services at 6 p.m., and are invited to go directly to Hamden Plains United Methodist Church on Monday at 11 a.m. for funeral services. Jorge Antonio Martínez
On May 29, 2006, Jorge Antonio Martinez was called to the Lord unexpectedly. Jorge Antonio was born on Dec. 13, 1978, in Bayamon, P.R., son of George L. Martínez (Raquel Santiago-Martinez) of Hamden and Emilia Garcia of Hartford. Anthony touched many lives! He accomplished much in a very short time. His smile and joie de vive will not be forgotten. Two sisters Tasha Nicole and Paula Ariel, a brother Michael Louis, stepbrother Alexis Sargisin, two nieces, his maternal grandmother Maria Roman and great-grandfather Eugenio Cuevas and paternal grandmother Ramonita Martinez survive him. He sadly leaves the love of his life Nitasha Garcia and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many faithful friends and colleagues. Anthony attended Faith Tabernacle (Manchester) and worked at Elm City Property Management (Hamden).

Geneva Keller Ehly

Ehly of Kentucky and the late John R. Sklarcik; great grandmother of Ashlynn Sklarcik of Columbia, S.C.; sister of E. Richard Keller of Cape May, N.J., and the late David P. Keller.
Geneva was born in Harrisburg, Pa., on May 28, 1924, a daughter of the late Ephraim and Geneva Peckworth Keller. Geneva was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a former manager of Biltmore Cleaners in New Haven. Funeral Services and burial will be private, as Geneva wished. Emma Buttricks Insley
Entered into rest eternal May 17, 2007, Emma E. Buttricks Insley, 102, formerly of West Helen Street, Hamden. Widow of Harvey Insley; mother of Mrs. Catherine (husband Raymond) Lutz of Riverview, Fla.; and sister of the late Charles Buttricks. Emma is also survived by a granddaughter, three great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Born in New Haven on March 25, 1905, Emma was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Minnie Shailer Buttricks. She was employed for over 30 years at the former Winchester Repeating Arms. Violet “Vernie” Huggins
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant ... enter thou into the joy of thy lord." Matthew 25:21. Violet V. Huggins, 70, of Hamden, formerly of Clay Ghaut, Nevis, passed away on May 13, 2007, at home.
She was born in Nevis on March 7, 1937. Violet "Vernie" Huggins, the daughter of the late Alfred Williams and Sadie Claxton of Nevis, was predeceased by her husband, Nelson Leroy Huggins. She leaves to mourn her loss, sons Hanief, Trevor and Nelson Huggins of Hamden; daughters Sandra and Deborah Huggins of Hamden. Violet is also survived by stepchildren Carol Rawlins of Nevis and Orborne Liburd of New Haven; brothers, Orville Claxton of New Haven and Kennedy Williams of New Jersey; sisters Angelita Powell, Valerie Claxton-Morrison of New Haven, Margaret Williams of New Jersey, Peola Williams of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and Sylvia Duggins of St. Kitts; eight grandchildren, Jasen, Jamilah, Shayne, Shanica, Kayleigh, Damien, Danyelle and Nyana; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, May 19, at 10 a.m. (viewing of the body from 9a.m.-10 a.m.) at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 111 Whalley Ave., New Haven. Joan D'Avino
Joan D'Avino, 90, of Norwalk, died Jan. 12, at Stamford Hospital, following a short illness. Her beloved husband of 60 years, Raymond E. D'Avino, died in 2004.
Born on Dec. 15, 1919, in Queens, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Michael and Vincenzina D'Angelo. She was a 1935 graduate of St. Joseph's Mountain High of St. Joseph's, New York. She was graduated from St. John's University with a B.S. in 1939 and earned her master of arts from Columbia University in 1940. She later was graduated from St. John's University Law School in 1943, where she was one of eight women in her graduating class.
Following graduation from law school, she practiced as a trial lawyer at Mutual of New York until shortly before she gave birth to her son, Rick, in 1955. Following Rick's graduation from high school in 1973, she returned to practice law at the Legal Aid Society of Rockland County, where she eventually became the executive director, until she retired in 1985 and moved with her husband to North Potomac, Md., to be close to their family.
A devout Catholic, she was a member of St. Philip R.C. Church, where she attended daily morning mass, was very active as an accomplished liturgical reader and supported youth and other groups. She also was a member of St. William R.C. Church of St. Simon's Island, Ga., where she spent winters for many years.
In addition to the church and church-related activities, she enjoyed worldwide travel, opera, entertaining and spending winters in St. Simons Island, where she could be found bike riding, taking walks on the beach, playing bridge and entertaining. She also frequently visited New York to see Broadway shows and shop.
What was most important to her were her dear husband, her two grandsons, Paul and Mark, in whom she took so much pride, her daughter-in-law, Pamela Murphy, and her only son, Rick. She loved them all and was very devoted to them.
She also is survived by beloved nieces and nephews and their families.

Norton P. Feinstein
Norton P. Feinstein, 80, of Norwalk, husband of Phyllis Fabel Feinstein, died Jan. 15 in University of Connecticut Health Care Center.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Harry and Shirley Freedman Feinstein, Feinstein graduated from Norwalk High School Class of 1947, then graduated from NYU School of Commerce in 1951 and NYU School of Law in 1954. He passed the bar exam in 1954 and was a local attorney. Feinstein was a veteran serving in Korea with the U. S. Army. He was on the UN Command-Military Armistice Commission 1954 to 1956.
Surviving in addition to his wife is his daughter, Doreen Waver and her husband Michael of Danbury and his son, Stephen Feinstein and his wife Bonnie of Avon; and four grandchildren, Shayna Feinstein, Maxwell Feinstein, Sydney Feinstein and Adam Feinstein.

George Hoyt
George Hoyt, 71, of Norwalk, husband of the late Elaine Klein Hoyt, died Jan. 16, in Norwalk Hospital.
Born in Norwalk, Jan. 6, 1938, son of the late Frank J. Hoyt, Jr. and Audrey Marion Millspaugh Hoyt, he was a lifelong city resident. Hoyt served in the U. S. Army, and worked for the city water pollution control plant for more than 20 years. He was also an automobile mechanic. Hoyt was a life member of the Pastimes A. C.
Survivors include two daughters; Kelly Marie Hoyt, of Norwalk, and Kimberly Willard and her husband Wesley, of Southington; two grandsons; Joshua and Andrew Willard; siblings Bing Hoyt and Jane Stuart and husband Don, all of Norwalk, Harold Hoyt and wife Joyce, Audrey McCaron and husband Edward, Fay Mulvey and husband George, all of Florida.
Hoyt was predeceased by a son, George D. Hoyt, Jr. and a brother William J. Hoyt.
