Entered into rest eternal March 10, 2007, Anna M. Bretko Toben, 95, formerly of Colony Street, Hamden. Widow of Leonard W. Toben; mother of Beverly Dial of Hanover, N.H., and Alfred J. (Valerie) Carbone of Hamden; sister of the late Margaret, Andrew, Carl, John and Joseph Bretko. Anna is also survived by four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Born in New Haven on May 23, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Amalia Straniska Bretko. Anna was a resident of Hamden since 1952 and a former member of both the Beecher Height Community Group and Civic Association Services. Burial will be held privately. Arrangements in care of Hamden Memorial Funeral Home, 1300 Dixwell Ave.

Flora Ida Discepoli Petrillo

Entered into rest eternal March 10, 2007, Flora Ida Discepoli Petrillo, 87, of Noble Street, West Haven, and formerly of Third Street, Hamden, and Rose Street, Branford. Widow of John M. Petrillo; mother of Linda (Norman) Mayor of West Haven and Diane (Ernest) Romano of North Branford; sister of Vera (Joseph) Mihalcik of Hamden, Rena (Al) Ceccarelli of North Haven and Mary (Emanuel) Yacono of West Haven. Flora also leaves six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Rice.
Born in Schenectady, N.Y., on May 16, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Bianca Berti Discepoli. She was a member of St. Rita’s Rosary Society and the Marchejian Society.

Funeral in Hamden Memorial, 1300 Dixwell Ave., on Monday at 9:30 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Ann’s Church at 10 a.m. Friends may also call at the funeral home on Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Burial will take place in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Doris Giddings Spillane

Entered into rest eternal March 5, 2007, Doris Giddings Spillane, 77, formerly of Lynmoor Place, Hamden. Sister of the late James Curtis Giddings, Doris was born in New Haven on Dec. 30, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Agnes Bell Curtis Giddings. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a host of adoring friends.

Doris was a secretary for Blue Cross & Blue Shield for over 25 years before her retirement, and was a past member of the Daughters of Isabella, an active member of St. Stephen’s Church Altar Society and a volunteer at Sacred Heart Clelian Adult Day Center.

Funeral in Hamden Memorial, 1300 Dixwell Ave., on Friday at 9:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Stephen’s Church at 10 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clelian Adult Day Care Center, 261 Benham St., Hamden, CT 06514.

Angela Gagliardi

Entered into rest eternal Feb. 3, 2007, Angela Gagliardi, 95, of 240 Benham St., Hamden. Angela was born on Oct. 2, 1911, to Carmine and Maria Theresa Vellaccio Iannone in New Haven. She was married to Harry A. Gagliardi Sr. for 56 years until his death in 1995. She was predeceased by a younger brother, Angelo Iannone. Angela is survived by two children, Mrs. Marie (Dr. Allan) Egbert of Hebron and Harry A. Gagliardi Jr. of Hamden; and two grandchildren of whom she was very proud, Allan L. Egbert Jr. and Allison H. Egbert, both of Massachusetts.

Angela loved her family and life. She was the original “soccer mom” who chauffeured her children to school and activities before they were able to drive. She was very skilled with hand sewing and eventually opened her own successful business in Hamden, Angie and Co., which made men’s neckties. She and her husband were exceptionally devoted to each other. They enjoyed several trips and cruises together.

She will be remembered for the fullness of her life and the depth of her love for her husband, children and grandchildren.

Funeral in Hamden Memorial, 1300 Dixwell Ave., Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a mass at 10 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Church. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Burial will take place in All Saint’s Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Clelian Adult Day Center, 261 Benham St., Hamden, CT 06514.

Santa Yaccabucci DeFabio

Entered into rest eternal Jan. 30, 2007, Santa DeFabio, 88, of 34 Parmalee Drive, Hamden. Formerly of West Haven, Bridgeport, Trumbull and Sunrise, Fla. Santa was the widow of Albert DeFabio Sr.; beloved mother of Albert DeFabio Jr. with whom she resided with for 62 years, Mrs. Grace (Vito) Cagganello of Monroe and the late Regina Stockbarger; sister of Marie Pietrafesa and Charles Yaccabucci both of Port Chester, N.Y., and the late Lawrence Wells. Santa is also survived by seven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Born in Port Chester, N.Y., on Feb. 8, 1918, Santa was a daughter of the late Nicola and Grazia Gasparini Yaccabucci. She was a retired cashier for Town Hall Pharmacy in Trumbull; prior to that she co-owned small stores with her late husband.

Funeral in Hamden Memorial, 1300 Dixwell Ave. Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Mass at 10 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Church. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Burial will take place in St. Michael’s cemetery in Stratford.

Lillian M. Kolesnik Buciak

Entered into rest eternal Jan. 14, 2007, Lillian M. Kolesnik Buciak, 80, of 28 Field Stone Court, North Haven and formerly of Winnett Street, Hamden. Widow of John T. Buciak; mother of John W. (Christine) Buciak of East Hampton and Mark S. (Jill) Buciak of Avon; grandmother of Cara Catherine, Ashley Lillian and Jonathan Joseph Buciak; sister of Catherine Kolesnik of North Haven.

Born in New Haven on Sept. 16, 1926, Lillian was a daughter of the late Walter and Mary Semaniak Kolesnik. She was employed by the city of New Haven Public Library before her retirement. She was a graduate of Commercial High School and later attended Stone Business Academy. She was a member and former past president of the Immaculate Conception Society and a member of the Pyrohy Workers Club of the Ukrainian Catholic Church, the Ukrainian Mr. and Mrs. Club, League of Ukrainian Catholics and Notre Dame Mothers Club of West Haven as well as participated at the Clelian Adult Center.

Funeral in Hamden Memorial, 1300 Dixwell Ave., on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. with Panachyna Services at 7 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Renovation Fund, 569 George St., New Haven, CT 06511, or Hospice and Palliative Care, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457.

John “Jack” F. Carroll

Entered into rest eternal Jan. 13, 2007, John “Jack” F. Carroll, 85, of 95 Twin Brook Road, Hamden. Husband of Marcella K. Lang Carroll; father of Elizabeth Tyrell of Northford, Mrs. Gail (Peter) Novicelli of Meriden, Stephen (Joan) Carroll of Cheshire, Peter (Janice) Carroll of Hamden, John (Colleen) Carroll of Brookfield and Robert (Maureen) Carroll of Hamden. Jack is also survived by 15 grandchildren and two great granddaughters.

Born in Taunton, Mass., on Oct. 13, 1921, he was the son of the late John and Florence Shaw Carroll. Jack was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of the 2nd Air Division Association. He was employed for 41 years by the New York, New Haven, Hartford Railroad, retiring in 1981.

Funeral in Hamden Memorial, 1300 Dixwell Ave., Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Burial with military honors will take place Wednesday in All Saint’s Cemetery, North Haven, at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492, or to the Salvation Army, 450 George St., New Haven, CT 06511.

Audrey C. Doherty Burke

Entered into rest eternal Jan. 5, 2007, Audrey C. Doherty Burke, 80, of 37 Centerbrook Road, Hamden. Widow of Thomas V. Burke Sr.; mother of Mary Anne (James) Maghery of Wallingford, Eileen (Paul Bordeleau) Hart of North Fort Myers, Fla., and the late Thomas V. Burke Jr.; grandmother of Erin Maghery of Wallingford; sister of Lucille McSherry, Rita Sullivan and Patricia MacGregor, all of Hamden, Gerald P. Doherty of Wallingford and the late James E. Doherty.

Audrey was born in New Haven on March 10, 1926, a daughter of the late Francis J. and Muriel K. Murphy Doherty. Audrey was a secretary for General Electric of Meriden for 10 years before her retirement. She was also a member of the Irish American Club. Audrey’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Michael Bergman for his kindness, compassion and extra special care he provided Audrey.

David J. Riccitelli

Entered into rest eternal Dec. 31, 2006, David Joseph Riccitelli, 42, of 3 Joseph Lane, Hamden. Loving husband of Tamara L. Kubala Riccitelli; devoted father of Amanda B. Riccitelli and Robert S. Riccitelli; son of Ellen (Peter) Dinan DeLeonardo of Higganum and Carmen J. (Patricia) Riccitelli, retired Hamden deputy police chief; brother of Renee (Paul) Coleman of Hamden, Amy (Sean) Laydon and Mindi (Thomas) Wydra, all of North Haven. David also leaves many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

David was born in New Haven on March 4, 1964. He was retired from SNET as an administrative supervisor and was employed for the last three years at the New Haven Anesthesia Associates.

Funeral in Hamden Memorial, 1300 Dixwell Ave., Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. in the Church of St. Rita. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Burial will take place in Centerville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Amanda and Robert Riccitelli Education Trust Fund, through the funeral director.

Emma M. Palmieri Caggiano

Entered into rest eternal Dec. 26, 2006, Emma M. Palmieri Caggiano, 89, formerly of Furman Road, Hamden. Sister of Rita Palmieri and Frank Palmieri, both of Hamden, Joseph Palmieri of San Francisco, Calif., and the late Bertha Iovine, Teresa L. Cassari, Flora L. Palmieri, William Palmieri and Dr. Anthony Palmieri. Emma was a daughter of the late Luigi and Leonilda Dauci Palmieri. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Emma was a retired cafeteria employee at Southern Connecticut State University.

Services were held in Hamden Memorial, 1300 Dixwell Ave., on Dec. 28. Entombment took place in Beaverdale Memorial Park Mausoleum, New Haven. Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice Inc., 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.

Donna M. Gillespie Kafka

Entered into rest eternal Dec. 29, 2006, Donna M. Gillespsie Kafka, 64, of 227 Corbin Road, Hamden. Wife of Frank J. Kafka; mother of Tracey Kafka of Hamden; and sister of Helen Hayes of Cheshire. Born in Derby on Sept. 12, 1942, Donna was a daughter of the late Franklin and Helen Caulfield Gillespie.

Donna was one of the first hair stylists for men, a former phlebotomist for the Hospital of St. Raphael and a retired medical assistant for Internal Medicine of East Haven. She was a member of the Hamden Arts Association, an avid gardener, loved to sew and enjoyed traveling to many beach locations in South Carolina and Block Island.

Funeral in Hamden Memorial, 1300 Dixwell Ave., Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. Mass at 10 a.m. in The Church of St. Rita. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Burial will take place in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Attn: Memorial Dept., 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Erminio J. Addario

Entered into rest eternal Dec. 2, 2006, Erminio Joseph Addario, 91, of 74 Ursini Drive, Hamden. Husband of Antoinette Pallotti Addario; father of Ernest (Dorothy) Addario of Milford and Phillip (Bruce Chapman) Addario of Westport; brother of Mary Pasqualoni of Cheshire, Gloria Russell of Hamden and the late Angelina Tacinelli, Lucian Addario Sr., Sam Addario and Frank Addario. Erminio also leaves nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Born in New Haven on Aug. 15, 1915, he was a son of the late Camillo and Elisa Addona Addario. Erminio was a self-employed mechanic for many years and a co-owner and operator of the former Globe Metal Refinishing Co. in Hamden.

Funeral in Hamden Memorial, 1300 Dixwell Ave., Monday at 9:30 a.m. with a mass at 10 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Church. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Burial will take place in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
