Donald Nielsen Jr.
Donald Nielsen Jr., 66, of Shelton died Monday at the Bishop Wicke Health Center. Born in New Haven, he was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, class of 1957, and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Prior to his retirement he was the plant superintendent at Deluxe Check Printers for 20 years.
He is survived by two sons, Donald Nielsen III of Shelton and Jeffrey S. Nielsen and his wife, Debra, of Monroe; five grandchildren, Jake, Shawn, Grace, Nicholas and Tyler; one sister, Kathryn Burnett of Oxford; and two brothers, Roger Nielsen of Norwalk and William H. Coombs of Oxford. He was predeceased by his parents, Donald Nielsen Sr. and Mildred Nielsen.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral today at 10 a.m. at the Shaughnessey-Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 680 Bridgeport Ave., Shelton 06484.
Robert Francis Oefinger
Robert Francis Oefinger, 88, of Fairfield, a retired tool and die maker, died Sunday at Cambridge Manor.
Born in Bridgeport, the son of the late Raymond and Susan Oefinger, he had been a lifelong area resident. He served as the president of the Resident Council at Cambridge Manor. He was the husband of the late Elsie T. Oefinger.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Alexander and her husband, Dr. James M. Alexander, of Monroe and Norene Byrne and her husband, Robert, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a brother, Richard Oefinger of Stratford; a sister, Shirley Metachum of Ledyard; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Shelley Dale and two brothers, Earl and Raymond Oefinger.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. The Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent's College, 2800 Main St., Bridgeport 06606.
Eleni Papadouli
Eleni Papadouli, 87, of Fairfield, the widow of the late John Papadoulis, and mother of Constantine and his wife, Penelope Jeanne Papadoulis, died Wednesday. She was the daughter of the late Andreas and Andriani Tsagri Pitta.
Survivors in addition to her son are two grandchildren, John and Helen Papadoulis of Fairfield.
Friends are invited to attend funeral services today at 1 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Interment will be in Lawncroft Burial Park. The Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St., Bridgeport, is in charge of the arrangements.
Rudolph A. Schwarz
Rudolph A. Schwarz, 83, of Fairfield, the husband of Amanda Schwarz, died Wednesday. Arrangements will be announced by the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road.
Marion Louise Stolk
Marion Louise Stolk of Southport died Dec. 23. Born in Orillia, Ontario, Canada, she attended MacDonald Hall in Guelph, Ontario, where she studied nutrition. She then moved to New York City, where she attended Traphagen School of Design, studying dress design. After her marriage she lived with her husband for many years in California and moved to Connecticut in the 1950s. She and her husband maintained homes in Southport and Orillia. She had a lifelong interest in nutrition and painting. She enjoyed being a homemaker and entertaining family and friends.
She was a Red Cross Gray Lady and hospital visitor and was a past president of Near and Far Aid in Connecticut. A member of Black Rock Congregational Church, her devotion to her church and her faith were the center point of her life. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Stolk and granddaughters, Stephanie Pitman and Aubrey Myett. Survivors include her daughters, Robin Stolk of California and Michael Haritos of Oregon; son, Robert Stolk Jr. of Washington; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A spring burial will take place in St. James Cemetery, Orillia. A memorial service will take place in the spring at Black Rock Congregational Church and will be announced. Richard Capozzi Sr.
Richard Capozzi Sr., 60, of Fairfield, retired owner of the Ace Maintenance Company of Westport, died Dec. 7 at his home. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., the son of the late Carmen and Marie Capozzi, he had been Fairfield resident since 1985. He was a member of the Vespucci's Italian American Club. He held an avid interest in both medieval and military history as well as Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He was an armory collector, particularly swords. He will be remembered for his friendly, outgoing and charismatic demeanor.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen (Lamphear) Capozzi of Fairfield; five children, DonnaMarie D'Angelo of Pleasant Valley, N.Y., Richard Capozzi Jr. of New Haven, Raymond Hamilton of Clinton, Trina Johnson and Josette Capozzi, both of Fairfield; a brother, Thomas Capozzi of Staten Island, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Laura, Matthew, Rachel, Deanna, Thomas and Dean Richard; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Capozzi.
A Mass of Christian burial took place Monday at Holy Family Church, 700 Old Stratfield Road. Interment followed in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y. Anna Demianczyk
Anna Demianczyk, 86, the wife of Peter Demianczyk of Fairfield, died Thursday at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport.
She was a longtime Fairfield resident. She was a member of the Ukrainian-American Club.
In addition to her husband of 25 years, she is survived by sons, Steve Demianczyk and his wife, Ok-Chu, of Arizona, John Demianczyk and his wife, Mroslawa, of Derby and Adam Demianczyk of Ansonia; and three grandchildren, Danielle, Natasha and Tanya. She was predeceased by her first husband, Fedor Howera; two sons, Bohdan and Jaroslaw; and one brother.
The funeral took place Monday at the Holy Protection of Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Church, 457 Noble Ave., Bridgeport. Inter-ment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery. The Shaughnessey Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, was in charge of the arrangements. A prayer service took place Sunday.
George Thomas Doyle
George Thomas Doyle of Roswell, Ga., formerly of Fairfield, died Dec. 1. Born in Granville, N.Y., and raised in Hudson Falls, N.Y., he volunteered to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. While stationed at Burtonwood Air Force Base in Warrington, England, he met his best friend and wife of 52 years, Catherine (McNamara) Doyle, know to friends as Myra.
Honorably discharged after four years, he brought his new bride home to New York to further his education in engineering and law and embark upon a successful engineering career working as project manager on multimillion-dollar construction projects in the United States, Singapore and The Netherlands, where he was relocated, and also as a published author. He took a brief sabbatical from engineering to work as an educator. During his retirement he enjoyed having more time for his lifelong passions: golf, gardening, travel and all things Irish, and his recent interests in astronomy and computers almost as much as spending time with his treasured family and pets.
He is survived by his wife; son, George Doyle; daughters, Colleen Rogers and Lorraine Doyle; son-in-law, Steven Rogers Sr.; daughter-in-law, Linda Doyle; grandchildren, Clare Rogers, Steven Rogers Jr., Audrey Doyle, Mary Doyle, Brian Rogers, Margaret Rogers, Sean Rogers and Sarah Rogers; and step-grandson, James Filanowski; his brothers, Patrick, John and James Doyle; sister, Anna Jane Clear; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Anna Mae Doyle; brother, Michael Doyle; parents-in-law, Michael and Mai McNamara; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.
A memorial service at Northside Chapel Funeral and requiem Mass at St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church took place in Roswell on Dec. 5. Linda Jean Rotolo Golino
Linda Jean Rotolo Golino, 56, the wife of Thomas Golino Jr., died Sunday at Bridgeport Hospital. She was born in Bridgeport on June 7, 1949, to Wanda and Charles Rotolo. She was a lifetime Fairfield resident and was employed as a secretary at Hansen's Flower Shop over the past four years. Prior to that she was the owner of Business Office Secretarial Services in Fairfield. She was totally devoted to her family and will always be remembered for her love of nature and the beauty all around her. She especially loved her cat, Spookie.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Thomas Golino III and Shannon Jean Golino, both of Fairfield; her grandchild, Eric Thompson; her father, Charles Rotolo and his wife, Linda, of Wilmington, Vt.; her mother, Wanda Jean Morano and her husband, Leonard, of Trumbull; brother, Duke Morano and his wife, Laurie Morano, of Trumbull; and her very special niece, Tara Golino. She was predeceased by her brother, Chucky Rotolo.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral tomorrow at St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial. Interment will be private. Friends may greet the family today from 4 to 8 p.m. The Shaughnessey Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, is in charge of the arrangements.
Julia C. Michalek
Julia C. Michalek, 82, formerly of Southport, died Friday at the Carolton Chronic and Convalescent Hospital. She was born in West Rutland, Vt., and was a Southport resident for more than 50 years. She retired from Remington Shaver in 1984 after 32 years of service. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis J. Michalek. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Michalek Bok of Palm Coast, Fla.; a sister, Ann Gindek of Fairfield; a brother, Henry Sutkoski of West Rutland; two step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral took place yesterday at the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello, 36 South Pine Creek Road, and St. Anthony of Padua Church with a Mass of Christian burial. V. Lillian Nagy
V. Lillian Nagy, 83, of Boynton Beach, Fla., the widow of Sigmund L. Nagy of Fairfield, died Dec. 7. She was a 15-year employee of State National Bank in Fairfield before retiring to Florida with her husband. She is survived by her children, Russell Nagy of Rockford, Ill., and Linda Polverari of Bethel; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a niece; and three nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Arthur, Richard and Jack.
Burial took place yesterday in Staten Island. The New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 506 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park, N.Y., was in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, West Palm Beach, Fla.
Daniel B. O'Neill
Daniel B. O'Neill, 24, of Wells, Vt., formerly of Fairfield, the son of Dorothy (Dorrie) O'Neill, died Sunday in Vermont from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Born in Bridgeport, he graduated from Fairfield High School in 1999 and was attending Castleton State College in Vermont.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his grandparents, Leonard and Harriet O'Neill of Florida and Vermont; six aunts and uncles; and six cousins. A memorial Mass will take place Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road. Interment will be private.
