Rose A. Grady
Rose A. Grady, wife of James T. Grady of 16 Rollingwood Dr., Brookfield, died at the Danbury Hospital Jan. 6, 1999, at the age of 66.

Mrs. Grady was born in the Bronx, N.Y., Sept. 21, 1932, daughter of the late Frank and Anna Occhiuto Zanghi and received her education in New York. Mrs. Grady settled in Brookfield 15 years ago and worked as a teller at the CBN, now Fleet Bank. She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Brookfield.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anna Marie and Joseph Coniglio, and grandsons Joseph and James Coniglio, all of Bethel; her sister, Frances Rossi of Holtsville, Long Island, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield, on Saturday at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at a place to be announced. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mary Spruill
Mary Spruill, 75, of 40 Williams Street, Danbury, died December 31, 1998, at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of James Spruill.

Mrs. Spruill was born in Cunningham, N.C., Aug. 29, 1923, a daughter of Edward and Carrie (Mason) Boyd. She lived in Danbury most of her life and worked for General Datacom for nine years. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was an usher and also sang with the Mt. Pleasant Community Chorus. She was also a member of Jenny Bryant Temple of Elks.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Anthony Green of Danbury; two daughters, Loretta Mourning of Danbury and Helen Williams of Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren, Lashorne Danzy of South Carolina, Gwendolyn Mourning of California, Lisa Mourning of Virginia and Gregory Mourning; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Charles Latsen, and a sister, Hazel Mae Anderson.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the family.

Calling hours are Friday from 11 a.m. to noon at Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church, 69 Rowan St., Danbury.

Services are Friday at noon at Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church.

The Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main Street, Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.

Charles J. LaVally, Jr.

Charles J. "Chuck" LaVally, Jr. died peacefully at home Friday evening after a year long battle with cancer. Chuck was born on July 13, 1930, in Barker, NY. He graduated from the Barker Central School and the University of Notre Dame. He received his degree in 1953 from the School of Mechanical Engineering.

He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1956 and the Naval Reserve until 1969.

After leaving the Navy, Church spent 30 years working in the life sciences instrument industry. He held various sales and management positions prior to retiring.

Chuck was actively involved in the Fox Hill Lake Association since moving to Ridgefield in 1979. He served as vice president of the association for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Jocelyn of Ridgefield; his sister, Clara Cooper of Riverview, FL; three children, Deborah LaVally of Ridgefield, David LaVally of Poolesville, MD, and Beverly Malley of Bolton, MA; and three grandchildren, John Charles Malley, Kathleen Jocelyn Malley, and Michael Charles LaVally.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mary's Parish in Ridgefield on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Yale University School of Medicine to support the oncology research of Frank Hsu, M.D., P.O. Box 208032, New Haven, CT 06520-8032.

Joan M. Huda

Joan M. Huda, age 68, of Danbury, died on Sunday morning at the Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Frank J. Huda.

Mrs. Huda was born in White Plains, N.Y., August 23, 1930, a daughter of the late Robert Raymond and Katherine Marie (Murphy) Clark. She grew up in Trenton, Michigan, where she graduated from Trenton High School in 1948, and from the Trenton School of Nursing in Detroit, in 1953.

Residing in both Greenwich and Bethel prior to moving to Danbury, Mrs. Huda was employed as a registered nurse, most recently in the Recovery Unit at the Danbury Hospital, from where she retired in 1987 after 13 years of service. She previously was on the nursing staff of Greenwich Hospital, and also at Island Beach, in Greenwich.

Mrs. Huda was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Danbury, and was previously a parishioner of the Church of St. Mary, Bethel.

She is survived by a son: Michael J. Huda, and his wife Mary, of Union, CT, one brother: Raymond Clark of Cincinnati, Ohio, one sister: Barbara Clark, of Venice, FL, one granddaughter: Shannon Huda, of Union, CT, and three nieces.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 20, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Danbury, at 8:30 am. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.

Thomas E. Sniffen

Thomas E. "Big Ed" Sniffen, age 72, a lifelong resident of Brewster, NY, died January 16, 1999, at the Westchester County Medical Center, Valhalla.

Mr. Sniffen was the beloved husband of Maria Adams Sniffen. They were married in Brewster on November 14, 1987. His first wife, Geraldine Wiliams Sniffen, died on May 17, 1984.

He was born in Somers, NY, September 13, 1926, son of Oscar John and Nora Ward Sniffen. He attended schools in Brewster.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1947.

Before his retirement in 1986, Mr. Sniffen had been a general deputy foreman for 40 years with the Laborers International Union Local -235, Elmsford, NY.

Besides his wife, Mr. Sniffen is survived by a stepson, Richard L. Chalifoux, Jr. of Wappingers Falls, NY; 3 daughters, Charlene Cable, Joann Storms, Jacqueline Weizenecker, all of Brewster, NY; a stepdaughter, Lisa Radcliff of New Milford, CT; 2 brothers, Irving Sniffen of Brewster and Ronald Sniffen of Hawthorne, NY; 2 sisters, Arlene Gallagher of Brewster and Emma McGrath of Poughkeepsie, NY; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Harold Sniffen, in 1987.

Funeral services will be at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster on Wed. 1/20/99 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kenneth White officiating. Burial will be in Raymond Hill Cemetery, Carmel, NY.

Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Richard W. Rauner

Richard W. Rauner, age 58, who was the recipient of a heart transplant at Temple Hospital, Philadelphia, PA, Dec. 17, 1998, died Jan. 16, 1999, at his home in Sandy Hook.

Mr. Rauner was born in Pecksville, PA, Sept. 6, 1940, son of the late William & Edna Rauner. He was a graduate of Blakely High School in Pecksville. Mr. Rauner was a resident of Sandy Hook since 1965. For the past 15 years he was employed as a clerk in the Newtown Post Office.

Mr. Rauner was a former Fairfield County Deputy Sheriff. From 1958 to Sept. 1961 he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mr. Rauner was appointed by the Governor of CT to head a Task Force to examine the cause & treatment of Huntington's Disease, and was responsible for the establishment of a clinic at the University of CT Health Center, Farmington, CT.

Mr. Rauner had spent several months at the Temple Hospital, prior to receiving his new heart. He returned home to Sandy Hook New Year's Eve.

Mr. Rauner is survived by a brother and sister-in-law Jerry & Sue Rauner of Midwest City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by a special friend Barbara Nelson of Southbury; and a godson, David Lewis.

A Memorial Service will be held at the United Methodist Church, Sandy Hook, CT where Mr. Rauner was a member and sang in the choir, on Saturday Jan. 23, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation will be at the convenience of the family.

Sarah E. Nash

Sarah "Sally" E. (Bishey) Nash, age 79, of 58 Mountainville Road, Danbury, wife of Louis Nash, died at Danbury Hospital on Saturday.

She was born in Manchester, NH, Sept. 27, 1919, daughter of the late Boulish Bishey and the late Salma (Deep) Bishey DePietro Morey. She attended schools in Saxonville, MA.

A Danbury resident since 1935, she worked for the former Danbury Novelty Company and Bridgeport Brass Company, before going to work as a machine operator at the Barden Corporation, where she retired in 1978, after 30 years of service.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a brother, Abraham Bishey of Fort Dodge, Iowa, a sister, Andoniella M. DePietro of Danbury and two stepchildren, Phyllis Coons and Louis A. Nash, both of Catskill, NY.

Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

Contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Mary A. McCorry

Mary A. (Cleary) McCorry, age 80, of the Woodlands, Bradenton, FL, died on Friday, January 15, 1999, at the Kent Special Care Facility, Kent, CT. She was the wife of the late Robert J. McCorry.

Mrs. McCorry was born in Elmhurst, Queens, on February 17, 1918, a daughter of the late Daniel and May (Russell) Cleary. She graduated from high school in Elmhurst, Queens, and was a graduate of the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Mrs. McCorry worked briefly for the Federal Reserve Bank and the Brewster School Business Office, spending her time primarily as a homemaker.

She is survived by four daughters, Mary Ellen Ranick, Bradenton, FL, Barbara Leahey, New Milford, CT, Patricia Bereczki, Newnan, GA, and Geraldine Cote, Lapeer, MI; one son, RJ McCorry, Irving, TX; one brother, William Cleary, Miller Place, NY; 10 grandchildren, including Megan Leahey, New Milford, CT; and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 23, 1999, at St. Francis Church, New Milford, at 9:30 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to I Can Cancer Support Services, Suite 201, Peacock Alley, 1 Padanaram Road, Danbury, CT 06811.

The Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Road, New Milford, is in charge of the arrangements.

Ellen Reeb

The death of Ellen (Schwarz) Reeb, of 83 Stony Hill Rd., Brookfield, occurred at the Abbott Terrace Health Center, Waterbury, Saturday evening. She was 77 years of age. She was the widow of Erwin K. Reeb. Mr. Reeb's death occurred in 1989.

Born in Nova Europa, Brasil Nov. 20, 1921, daughter of the late Karl and Bertha Kungel Schwarz, she moved to Germany in 1937. She came to this country in 1961 and settled in Richmond Hills, N.Y. before moving to Brookfield in 1983.

Her married life was devoted to her family.

She attended St. Joseph's Church, Brookfield.

Surviving are a son, Peter B. Reeb, Sr. of Brookfield, 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Reeb of Bethel, Peter B. Reeb, Jr., of Brookfield, Monica Guerinni and Ronald Modik, both of Levittown, N.Y., 4 great-grandchildren, Samantha Modik and Ronald Modik, Jr., Brittany Guerinni and Michael Guerinni, all of Levittown, N.Y.

Funeral services will be held at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, Monday afternoon at 4:00.

Friends may call at the Brookfield Funeral Home Monday from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00.

Hugh J. Quinn

Hugh J. Quinn, age 71, husband of Virginia (Doughty) Quinn of Deerfield Dr., Sandy Hook died Jan. 17, 1999 in the Danbury Hospital.

He was born in Bridgeport, CT Jan. 10, 1928 son of the late Hugh & Jessie (Schoenberger) Quinn. A resident of Newtown since childhood, he was a graduate of Newtown High School. He was a retired truck driver for Baskin-Robbins in Southbury, CT.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was attached to the honor squad protecting the headquarters of General McArthur.

He was long active in the operation of the Faith Food Pantry at St. John's Episcopal Church, Sandy Hook.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Newtown.

He is survived, besides his wife, by 2 sons Hugh Quinn, 3rd of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, and David Quinn of Wappinger Falls, NY; 1 daughter, Kelly E. Quinn of Litchfield, CT; 1 brother, Robert Quinn of Miami, FL; 2 sisters, Dorothy Cavanaugh of Newtown and Catherine Whyte of Clearwater, FL; 2 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown, Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation will follow.

Friends may call Tuesday 3 to 5 & 7 to 9 p.m.
