Ms. Jessica M. Matos

Loved to read, write poetry

WATERBURY - Jessica M. Matos, 22, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at her home with her loving family by her side after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Jessica was born Aug. 22, 1988, in Farmington, daughter of Pedro L. Matos and Sandra Pichardo, both of Waterbury. Jessica was raised in Waterbury and was a graduate of Wallace Middle School and Crosby High School, class of 2007. She loved to read and write poetry and was currently writing a book.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Elvis Matos of Waterbury; two sisters, Casandra Matos and Alesia Matthews, both of Waterbury; her paternal grandmother, Mercedes (Santiago) Matos of Waterbury; her maternal grandmother, Sandra Holguin of Waterbury; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at Sacred Heart Sagrado Corazon Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bergin Funeral Home, 290 East Main St., Waterbury.

Joseph R. Bessette Sr.

Liked to fish, hunt, play golf

WATERBURY - Mr. Joseph R. Bessette Sr., age 76, of Chipper Road, Waterbury, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 5, 2011. He was the husband of Pauline R. (Duplessis) Bessette.

Joseph was born in Waterbury on July 26, 1934, son of the late Alcid and Constance (Maietta) Bessette. He was a painter and paper hanger for Waterworth Inc. for 40 years and worked for G.S.S. Industries for 12 years before his retirement in June 2005. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, was an avid golfer and took great pride in his garden. He also painted pictures artistically in his spare time.

Besides his beloved wife of 55 years, he leaves three sons, Joseph Robert Bessette Jr. and his wife, Theresa, Paul Richard Bessette and his wife, Lisa, and Darrien James Bessette, all of Waterbury; two daughters, Cherylann Michaels and her husband, Randy, of Waterbury and Terri Marie Bessette of Fremont, Calif.; one brother, William L. Bessette of Georgia; one sister, Jacqueline St. Hilarie of Bristol; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, was entrusted with the arrangements. There are no calling hours.

Richard Baumgartner Navy veteran

LAKEMOOR, Ill. - Richard Baumgartner, 84, U.S. Navy veteran, formerly of Glenview. March 4, 2011. Beloved husband of the late Laverne ne้ Adams. Loving father of four daughters, Susan (Michael) Holland (Naugatuck), Diane (Paul) DeMuth, Judy (Rick) Ziberna and Linda (Jim) Bolotin. Cherished grandfather of Douglas (Ewa) Holland (Milford), Amy Fritz, Matthew DeMuth, Rebecca (David) Wagner, Mark and Tracy Ziberna, and Adam and Patrick Bolotin. Great-grandfather of Agatha, Basil and Holland of Milford. Dear brother of Elaine Dice, Min Gross\ John Baumgartner, James Baumgartner, and the late Arthur Baumgartner, and Barbara Novak. Fondly remembered by ex-wife, Maureen Niemann and her children, Cathy Niemann, Donna (Kevin) Kwaterski and Michael Niemann.

Visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the N.H. Scott and Hanekamp Funeral Home, 1240 Waukegan Road, Glenview (just south of Lake Avenue on west side). Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. today for a funeral Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (corner of Church and Grove streets), Glenview. Interment St. Joseph.

Ms. Geraldine Stango

Formerly of Waterbury

SUFFIELD - Geraldine (Sitters) Stango, 79, beloved wife of the late John J. Stango Jr., passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at a local convalescent home.

Born in Waterbury, April 17, 1931, daughter of the late Gerard and Irene (Turcotte) Sitters, she grew up and lived in Waterbury before moving to Suffield 40 years ago.

Geraldine is survived by a son, Wayne J. Stango and his wife, Carolyn, of Landsdale, Pa.; a daughter, Laurie Burke and her husband, Keith, of Doylestown, Pa.; a sister, Joyce Hermann and her husband, Timothy, of Waterbury; a stepbrother, Preston Kobbe and his wife, Pam, of South Windsor; two grandsons, Christopher Tuttle and his wife, Stefannie, and Brian Tuttle. She was predeceased by her stepmother, Helen Sitters, and a brother, Gerard Sitters.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 11, at Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Her family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Eva LaCapra

Devoted to her family

GLASTONBURY - Mrs. Eva (Shermeta) LaCapra, 91, formerly of Watertown and Wolcott, beloved wife of the late William V. LaCapra, peacefully entered into eternal rest, surrounded by her devoted family, on Monday, March 7, 2011, at Salmon Brook Convalescent home in Glastonbury.

Mrs. LaCapra was born June 29, 1919, in Waterbury, daughter of the late George and Anna Shermeta. Eva was a loving mother, most generous grandmother, and a wonderful cook and homemaker. Her family will always remember her beautiful smile, her great sense of humor, her flair for fashion, and her delicious eggplant.

Eva is survived by her sons, George LaCapra and his wife, Suzanne, of Watertown, and William LaCapra and his wife, Judy, of Thompson; and her daughters, Nancy Iagrossi of Del Ray, Fla., and Lori LaCapra Briody and her husband, John, of Glastonbury. She also leaves her nine grandchildren, Steven LaCapra, Krista LaCapra, George LaCapra Jr., Stacy LaCapra, Lisa Robert, Carl Iagrossi Jr., Danielle Iagrossi, Addison Briody and Liam Briody; three great-grandchildren, Devon, Malina and Mason LaCapra; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Sharon Singer, and her sisters, Mary Hall and Olga Finkle.

A funeral will be held 8 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011, from the Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury, to Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 8 to 9:30 a.m.

Ms. Myrtle L. Wynkoop

Formerly of Waterbury

HARTFORD - Myrtle Lillian Wynkoop, 81, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.

Daughter of the late Willie Harge and Mattie (Collins) Harge, she was born in St. Augustine, Fla., on March 27, 1929, and had lived in Waterbury for many years before moving to Hartford.

A home-going service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Mount Olive Church Ministries, 20 Battles St., Hartford. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Paul J. Wargo

Retired police officer

SOUTHBURY - Paul J. Wargo, son of Paul S. and Katherine Horvath Wargo, born Nov. 8, 1927, in McAdoo, Pa., died March 7, 2011, at Waterbury Hospital.

Paul was educated in the Bridgeport school system before enlisting in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he was assigned to the FDR (CVB-42). Later, he owned gas stations in Bridgeport and Stratford and drove a tractor trailer. In 1959, he joined the Bridgeport Police Department where he worked in the patrol and traffic divisions, retiring as supervisor for the lines and signs department. He enjoyed restoring classic cars, going to Foxwoods Casino, riding motorcycles and playing Pinochle with his in-laws. He also loved dogs and could fix or build almost anything.

He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Gebeau Wargo, his son, Steven, and his brother, Leslie. He is survived by his sons, Paul and Stuart Wargo, and his daughter, Linda Haas and her husband, Robert, all of Southbury. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Paul, Sean and Jessica Wargo of Bridgeport, and Robert, Randall and Russell Haas of Southbury.

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at Resurrection Cemetery, Route 25, Newtown. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury.

Antonio DiLeo
Owned restaurant

MORRIS - Antonio "Tony" DiLeo, 73, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Sloan-Kettering in New York after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Silvana (Ciriello) DiLeo.

Mr. DiLeo was born in Ginestra, Italy, on May 22, 1935, son of the late Rocco and Rita (Fiorellini) DiLeo. He was a tool maker for 20 years with Isley Swiss Screw Machine and had owned Italia Mia Restaurant in New Milford for 26 years.

In addition to his wife, Silvana, he is survived by a son, Rocco and his wife, Marta, of Brookfield; a daughter, Patrizia of Bethel; three grandchildren; two sisters of Italy; and many nieces and nephews of Italy. He was predeceased by a sister.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Monday, April 20, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, South Street, Litchfield. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery. Calling hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at The Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Dorothy Marriott Cole

Dorothy Marriott Cole, "Duke", 82, of Brookfield, formerly of Wilton, died Dec. 22, at CT Hospice, Branford. Born in Norwalk, the daughter of the late Ernest and Annie (Mills) Marriott, she was the beloved wife of the late John H. Cole, and was also predeceased by her brother William Franklin Marriott.

She had retired from Norwalk Hospital as an administrative assistant, after 20 years of service.

She is survived by three loving daughters; Jacqueline Hartmayer and her husband Warren of Brookfield, Karen Miller of South Carolina and Lori Keen, and her husband Robert of Mt. Holly, Vt., grandsons; Brian Keen, staff sergeant David Hartmayer, USAF and staff sergeant Michael Hartmayer, USMC, as well as a brother Ernest Marriott Jr.

Funeral services will be held privately with burial at Riverside Cemetery.

Kelly Joan Fisher

Kelly Joan Fisher, 24, of Stratford died Dec. 22 in St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport.

Born in Norwalk, she has been a lifelong Stratford resident. She graduated from Bunnell High School in 2004 and the University of Rhode Island in 2008 and was a registered nurse at Norwalk Hospital in the Telemetry Department.

Survivors include her parents Karl Fischer and Margaret Canavan Fischer; a sister Rebecca Fischer all of Stratford; her grandparents Karl and Barbara Fischer and Owen and Joan Canavan all of York Town Heights; her boyfriend Erik Dobyns and two special friends Nicole Robillard and Sandi DeRose.

A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. The Adzima Funeral Home 5o Paradise Green Place Stratford has been entrusted with the arrangements.
