DUMAIS, Albina Marion Albina Marion Dumais, 81, of Enfield, beloved wife of the late Arthur Dumais passed away Thursday, (December 2, 2004) surrounded by her loving family. Born in Windsor, on Feb. 18, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Catherine (Benway) La Roche. She lived in Poquonock most of her life, prior to moving to Enfield. She retired as a nurses aide working in local nursing homes. Albina is survived by her sons Arthur Dumais, Jr. of Smyrna, TN and Robert Dumais of Vernon, four sisters, Irene Champigany of Florida, Antoinette Golon of Poquonock, Jeannette Passalacqua of Suffield, Olive Lyons of Agawam, MA and several grandchildren. She was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be Saturday. Dec. 4, at 10 a.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon F.H., 551 Talcottville Rd.(Rte 83) Vernon. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Poquonock section of Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cornerstone Bible Church, P.O. Box 663 Enfield, CT 06083.

Emily (Courtney Lloyd) Davis, 103, of West Suffield, widow of Charles J. Davis Jr., died peacefully on Wednesday (December 1, 2004) in a local convalescent home. She was born in Providence, RI, and was a longtime resident of Cranston, RI before moving to West Suffield. She is survived by two sons, Richard J. and Constance E. Davis of West Suffield, and Courtney L. Davis of Matunuck, RI; two granddaughters, Amy L. and Andrew H. Brydges of Suffield, and Holly S. Davis of Saunderstown, RI; and a grandson, Joshua F. and Margaret B. Davis of West Suffield. She also leaves behind three great grandchildren, Charles and Emily Brydges of Suffield, and Paul PJ Davis of West Suffield. She was predeceased by her sisters, Marion Burgess and Beatrice Patterson, and her brother, William B. Lloyd. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Congregational, Suffield. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 13, 11 a.m. at the First Church of Christ Congregational, 81 High St., Suffield. Burial will be private at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Church Music Fund, 81 High St., Suffield, CT 06078. Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home has care of arrangements.

LUGINBUHL, Viola Gudeman Viola Gudeman Luginbuhl, 81, of Ellington, beloved wife of Ervin L. Luginbuhl, passed away suddenly on Saturday (December 4, 2004). Born in Hoopeston, IL on March 29, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Tillie Gudeman. Viola was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church and lived in Ellington most of her life. She was a loving and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was beloved by all who knew her, graciously opening her home to entertain her family and many friends. Viola was happily married for 58 years to Ervin who survives her. She is also survived by her children: Chester Luginbuhl and his wife Pam of Ellington; Mary Kloter and her husband Keith of South Windsor; Erva Jean Luginbuhl of Ellington; Tom Luginbuhl and his wife Heidi of Altadena, CA, as well as by her 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She leaves behind three brothers: Emanuel Gudeman of Morton, IL; Wilbert Gudeman and his wife Anne of Hoopeston, IL; Edward Gudeman and his wife Dottie of Bloomington, IN; and sister-in-law Caroline Gudeman of Cissna Park, IL. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church, 34 Middle Butcher Rd., Ellington. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 9, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church. Interment will be in Ellington Center Cemetery, Ellington. The Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, Vernon, has care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Home for the Handicapped, 2125 Veterans Road, Morton, IL 61550.

Marlon F. Wilkins

Services: A Homegoing service will be held Saturday December 4 at 1:00 pm at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home 807 Bloomfield Ave Windsor. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Benedict cemetery Bloomfield.

Marlon Francis Wilkins, 29, of Simsbury, passed away unexpectedly Saturday November 27, 2004. Born on May 25, 1975 in Hartford, he was the son of Francis Chester Wilkins of Rocky Hill, and Margaret (Barney) Wilkins of Simsbury and has lived in Simsbury for the past three years. Marlon was a self-employed Carpenter for many years in the Hartford area, and enjoyed playing the game of basketball. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends. Besides his parents he leaves a son, Marlon P. Wilkins of Simsbury; a sister, Stacy N. Wilkins of Simsbury; his maternal aunt, Rose L. Buckner of Hartford; a paternal aunt, Cynthia M. Wilkins of Enfield; four uncles, Nathaniel L. Wilkins of Hartford, James E. Wilkins of Providence R.I., Miles W. Barney and Kevin L. Barney and his wife Vicki all of Lumberton N.C.; his very devoted friend, Cindy Cooper of Willimantic; a special cousin, Louis Hardison of Hartford; and a host of other close relatives and friends. A Homegoing service will be held Saturday December 4 at 1:00 pm at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home 807 Bloomfield Ave Windsor. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Benedict cemetery Bloomfield. Henry E. Griffin, 76, beloved husband of Joan (Lawlor) Griffin of South Windsor, died Sunday, (December 19, 2004) at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. Born on December 12, 1928, in Berlin, NH, son of the late, Matthew and Alma (Bouchard) Griffin, he had lived in South Windsor for the last 39 years. Henry was a U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War. Before retiring, he was employed by Herb Holden Trucking Company of Ellington for many years. He was a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Church, South Windsor and past member of the Knight of Columbus, South Windsor. Henry enjoyed fishing, hunting, Nascar racing and was an avid Red Sox fan. Earlier in life he had raced cars and was an all around woodworker, building birdhouses and gifts for his grandchildren. Henry took great pride in his grandchildren. He had a quick-wit and it was not uncommon for him to use many of his familiar quips. Besides his wife of 52 years, Joan, he leaves three sons, John W. Griffin of Danbury, Donald J. and his wife, Lori Griffin of Canton and Michael C. and his wife, Kathleen Griffin of South Windsor; a brother, Robert and his wife, Mary Gendron in New Hampshire; two sisters, Pauline and her husband, Frank Phair and Alma Bobby and her husband, Donald Garron of New Hampshire; ten grandchildren, Julia, Heather, Michael, Matthew, Ryan, Michelle, Chelsea, Shannon, Jonathan and Kaylee; two great grandchildren, Micaela and Justin; his mother-in-law, Lucille Lawlor of South Windsor; a brother-in-law, Roland Breault; and a sister-in-law, Betty Gendron, both in New Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews. A brother, Donald Gendron and three sisters, Irene Breault and Lorraine and Madeline Gendron, predeceased him. Family and friends may gather, Thursday, 9:15 a.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., in St. Margaret Mary Church. Burial will follow in Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor. His family will receive friends, Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home. Edwin Nye

Services: A service to celebrate Edwin’s life will be held the Trinity College Chapel in Hartford, CT, on Sunday, December 12 at 2 pm.
Edwin P. Nye, age 84, died on November 26, 2004, in Bloomfield CT. Born January 29, 1920 on a farm in Atkinson, New Hampshire, he was the fifth child of Eben W. and Florence (Dunn) Nye. He is survived by Fern (Drumheller) Nye his wife of 60 years, a son and daughter-in-law, David and Helle of Odense, Denmark, a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Rudy Heller of Brookfield, MA, a son, Benjamin of Ellington, CT, a sister Dorothy Raymond, and her husband Kenneth, of Niagara Falls, NY, granddaughter Lisa Heller, and her husband Dennis Boragine, grandson, Daniel Heller, and his wife Yuki Takai, a great-grandson Jonathan Koki Takai Heller, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Edwin worked his way through the University of New Hampshire and graduated with highest honors and a degree in mechanical engineering in 1941. He then worked briefly for the Bailey Meter Company in Cleveland, Ohio, before serving as an Instructor in Engineering for the Army Specialized Training Program. He served in the Air Force during WW II at Langley Field, Virginia with the NACA, predecessor of NASA, doing research on centrifugal compressors for jet engines. After completing a M.S. at Harvard University in 1947, he taught mechanical engineering at the Pennsylvania State University until 1959, when he became Hallden Professor of Engineering at Trinity College. From 1970 - 1979 he was Dean of the Faculty, overseeing the process of transforming the College into a coeducational institution, putting in place a new, open curriculum, and developing an overseas campus in Rome. After serving as Dean, he returned to the Engineering Department and taught thermodynamics and interdisciplinary courses in technology and society until retiring in 1983.
In 1994, Edwin became a founding trustee for the Nye Scholarship Trust, based upon the estate of Grace and Alfred Nye, and he was instrumental in establishing its procedures. This trust provides enrichment to high school students in Bourne, MA, as well as scholarships to high school graduates from the towns of Bourne, Sandwich, Plymouth and Wareham. To date, over 2.5 million dollars have been awarded to over 250 students of higher education.
Author and co-author of several widely used engineering textbooks, and a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and Connecticut, he was active in the American Society of Electrical Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering. A founding member of University Research Institute of Connecticut, he served as its President from 1966 - 1972. He was also an early supporter of Charter Oak State College (www.cosc.edu), the Connecticut’s alternative learning institution, where he was active as a member of its faculty of examiners from 1974 - 1994 and served as its interim president in 1989. Charter Oak College awarded him an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters in 1999. He was also a Director of the Hallden Machine Company from 1960 - 1985.
An occasional poet, world traveler, avid walker, and crossword puzzle devotee, Edwin said he felt truly blessed. Long an active layman at both the parish and Diocesan level in the Episcopal Church, after retirement he and his wife established a Christian Retreat Center on a secluded hilltop estate in Ashfield MA, where they hosted hundreds of retreats before moving to the Seabury Retirement Community in Bloomfield CT in 1997. At Seabury, he became an active member of the community, serving a term as President of the Resident's Association.
A service to celebrate Edwin’s life will be held the Trinity College Chapel in Hartford, CT, on Sunday, December 12 at 2 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the McLean Hospice Services, 75 Great Pond Road, Simsbury, CT 06070, or to Seabury Charitable Foundation, 200 Seabury Drive, Bloomfield, CT 06002.

Patience Follansbee

FOLLANSBEE, Patience (Shorey) Patience (Shorey) Follansbee, 87, of Windsor, beloved wife of the late Harper Follansbee, a longtime Biology teacher at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA, passed away on Saturday (December 11, 2004). She was born in New York, NY, daughter of the late Arthur C. and Emma Louise (Gibbs) Shorey, lived most of her life in Andover, MA, and summered in Fitzwilliam, NH, and Chautauqua, NY. Patience graduated from The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY, the Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, and received her Bachelor's Degree from Smith College in Northampton, MA. Devoted wife and mother, she was an avid bird watcher, gardener, tennis player, and collector of American antiques. She is survived by three sons, Harper Follansbee, Jr. and his wife, Harriet Borriello of Windsor, Nathan Follansbee and his wife, Sally of Farmington, and Pete Follansbee and his wife, Marita of Richmond, VA; 11 grandchildren; and a sister, Mary S. Polly Cushman of Exeter, NH, and Naples, FL. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Pete Shorey; and a granddaughter, Charlotte L. Follansbee. Funeral services will be private. Carmon Windsor Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.
