James H. Smith Jr.
James H. Smith Jr., age 65, formerly a resident of Bethel, Connecticut, and a resident of Edenton, NC, for 3 years, died on January 7th at Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City, NC, after a long illness.
He was the son of the late James and Esther Smith of Yeadon, PA. Mr. Smith was a graduate of Penn State with a degree in agronomy. After working many years with Upjohn, Mr. Smith and his family moved to Bethel, Connecticut, where he worked for the Town of Bethel and Steck's Nursery.
Survivors include his wife of 9 years, Nancy Downs Smith of Edenton, NC; a son, James H. Smith III of Bethel, Connecticut; a daughter, Kimberly Carusillo of Goshen, Connecticut, and many grandchildren.

Marie Page Berube
Marie (St. Amand) Page Berube, 82, formerly of 4th St., Bristol, widow of Pius Page and Alcime Berube, died Friday (January 22, 1999) at the Pope John Paul II Health Care Center.
Mrs. Berube was born in St. Andre, New Brunswick, Canada, and was a daughter of the late Thomas and Sophie (Durepos) St. Amand. A Bristol resident since 1943, she was employed at the former New Departure-Hyatt for 32 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of St. Ann Church, Bristol.
Mrs. Berube is survived by a son, Reginald Page of Enfield; a brother, Noel St. Amand of Grand Falls, NB, Canada; four sisters, Carmen Cyr of Danbury, Cecile LaForest, Martha Dube, and Jeannette LaForest of Grand Falls, NB, Canada; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (January 27, 1999) at 9 a.m. from Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, to St. Ann Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Stephen Field Smith
CHESAPEAKE, Virginia - Stephen Field Smith, 39, of the 500 block of Sunderland Terrace, joined his Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, January 24, 1999.
Mr. Smith was born in Milford, Connecticut and was the son of Kenneth M. and Elizabeth Field Smith of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, formerly of Newtown, Connecticut. He was a cook at Locks Pointe Restaurant in Chesapeake. Mr. Smith was a member of Great Bridge Baptist Church.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife Carolyn Curtiss Smith, his son, Kenneth Edward Smith and his daughter, Holly Curtiss Smith, all of Chesapeake; two brothers, Kenneth Eric Smith of Virginia Beach and Darren M. Smith of Neshanic Station, New Jersey; and a sister, Cynthia Nye Hanna of Granby, Colorado.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 1999, at Great Bridge Baptist Church, Rev. Charles Moseley and Rev. Ramon M. Owens, Jr. officiating.
Viewing will begin on Tuesday at Oman Funeral Home and Crematory, Great Bridge, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Francis E. Gannon
Francis E. Gannon of Route 25, Newtown, died Jan. 23, 1999 in Ashlar of Newtown.
He is the husband of Margaret Jablon Gannon. He is a veteran of WWII where he won 4 Bronze Stars. He is a member of Day Spring Masonic Lodge of Hamden and the Ridgewood Country Club.
The Smith Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford is in charge of the arrangements. Friends may call today, Monday Jan. 25, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Services are Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Funeral Home with interment following at Kings Highway Cemetery.

Alexander Scott Dance
Alexander Scott Dance, 31, has gone to rest in "The Arms of The Angels" on Saturday (Jan. 23). He had been a lifelong resident of Redding, CT.
Alex was born in Stamford on May 22, 1967, a son of Malcolm George Dance of Bunnell, Fla. and Audrey Simmons Dance of Redding.
He was a member of Christ Church Parish in Redding and also was an avid Oakland Raider and Dale Earnhardt fan.
In addition to his parents, Alex is survived by his paternal grandmother, Marie F. Dance of Flagler Beach, Fla.; maternal grandmother, Mary Jungling of Weston, CT; five brothers, Malcolm W. Dance of Redding, George E. Dance of Flagler Beach, Fla., John T. Dance of Newtown, CT, John R. Dance of Bunnell, Fla., and Andrew S. Dance of Jacksonville, Fla.; four sisters, Audrey Scott of Norwalk, CT, Mary Burritt of Redding, Connie Borofsky of Easton, CT, and Nancy-Ellen Otte of Orlando, Fla.; stepmother, Nancy H. Dance of Bunnell, Fla.; great aunt, Helen Pederson; and was a loving uncle of eleven nephews and four nieces; and his extended family of friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday (Jan. 26) at 1 PM in Christ Episcopal Church, Redding Ridge, CT. The Rev. Kent C. Smith, Rector, will officiate. The interment is to be private.

Elizabeth Elliott
SOUTHBURY - Mrs. Elizabeth (Towne) Elliott, age 80, of Southbury, died Saturday, January 23rd, at Mediplex of Southbury.
Mrs. Elliott was born January 1, 1919, in Waterbury Center, Vermont, daughter of the late Richard and Gladys (Brown) Towne. Prior to moving to Connecticut in 1954, she had been employed at the Vermont State Hospital. In Connecticut she worked at ViBo Farms in Southbury, Fairfield Hills Hospital in Newtown, the Southbury Training School and Risdon Manufacturing of Danbury,
She leaves two sons, Richard Elliott of Danbury and Michael Elliott of Seymour; two daughters, Norma Cullins of Waterbury and Carol Hornik of Danbury; one brother, Trevor Towne of Keene, New Hampshire, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also two aunts, Edna Corliss of Southbury and Ollie Corliss of Bristol, Vermont. She is pre-decreased by her grandson, Daniel Elliott, who died in 1991.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 26th, at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury. Calling hour: Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Burial will be private.

Harriet Koons
Mrs. Harriet (Randall) Koons, of South Britain Road, Southbury, died Sunday, Jan. 24th, at her home. She was the wife of Walter E. Koons, Jr.
Besides her husband, she leaves one son, W. Randall Koons of Front Royal, VA; two daughters, Mrs. Susan K. Wingate of Ridgway, Penn; and Martha Koons of Southbury; and ten grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 30th at 3:00 p.m. at South Britain Congregational Church, Rte. 172, South Britain.

Milton W. Brumaghim
Milton W. Brumaghim, age 67, retired owner of Phoenix Engineering of Shelton, died Friday Jan. 22, 1999 in the Danbury Hospital. Mr. Brumaghim was the husband of the late Patricia (Short) Brumaghim and resided on Bears Hill Road, Newtown.
He was born in Gloversville, NY, January 11, 1932, a son of the late William and Lydia (Slack) Brumaghim. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. A resident of Newtown since 1958, Mr. Brumaghim was a former member of the Newtown Jaycees, a volunteer at Middle Gate School and was a Boy Scout troop leader.
He is survived by his beloved children, Neal D. Brumaghim of Newtown, Melissa Eisenbach of Southbury and Rebecca Scott of Beverly, MA, 2 brothers, Victor Brumaghim of Gloversville, NY and Paul Brumaghim of Danville, NY, a sister Ruth Trzaskos of Amsterdam, NY, 3 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Bart Murray
Bartholomew R. Murray, 69, of 146 Barlow Mountain Road, Ridgefield, husband of Dolores (Petrie) Murray, died on Saturday evening at the Danbury Hospital.
Mr. Murray was born in The Bronx, New York, January 9, 1930, a son of the late Bartholomew and Anna (Ripley) Murray. He attended schools in the Bronx and graduated from Iona College and the University of Southern California. He later attended New York University.
Mr. Murray was a retired executive of the international oil firm, American Ultramar of Mt. Kisco, NY. He retired fifteen years ago.
He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
A resident of Ridgefield since 1976 coming from California, he was a former member of the Ridgefield Mens Club, a member of the Marquette Council Knights of Columbus of Ridgefield, the Rev. John D. Kennedy Assembly 4th degree Knights of Columbus of Danbury, the University of Southern California Alumni Association and of St. Mary's Church of Ridgefield.
He enjoyed fishing as a hobby, his dogs but most especially his family and his grandson.
Mr. Murray is survived by his wife of 45 years, a son; Gerard R. Murray of Bethel, a daughter; Jacqueline A. Hogan of Danbury and a grandson; William G. Hogan, V.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield.
Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Friends will be received in the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Daniel J. O'Connell
Daniel J. O'Connell, 58, husband of Joan Kelly O'Connell and a resident of Putnam Lake for the past 27 years, died Monday in Brewster.
He was born in Bronx, NY, Nov. 14, 1940 a son of Cornelius and Mary Haran O'Connell. He was a graduate of DeWitt Clinton High School, Bronx, and had lived in the Bronx until moving to Putnam Lake.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Mr. O'Connell had been employed for the last 13 years as the Director of Buildings and Grounds at Green Chimneys Children's Services. He was also previously employed at CIBA-GEIGY in Ardsley for 17 years as assistant chief engineer.
He was a 25 year member of Putnam Lake Fire Dept. He was past treasurer of the P.L.F.D. Benevolent Assoc., and was trustee, chaplain and chief of the Dept. in 1983, 84 & 85. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Putnam Lake.
Besides his wife, Mr. O'Connell is survived by two sons, Daniel J. O'Connell Jr. and Brian K. O'Connell, both of Putnam Lake; three sisters, Mary Ann Guenat of Chino Hills, CA, Cornelia Wunderlich of Amityville, NY, and Mary Noreen Cienfuegas of Diamond Bar, CA; and one grandchild. He was predeceased by his son, Chief James P. O'Connell on June 26, 1998.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Putnam Lake. Burial will be in St. Lawrence O'Toole Cemetery in Brewster.
Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Fire Depts. in the County will pay respects on Wednesday between 7-8 p.m.

Vincent Cioffi
Vincent Cioffi, 84, of 16 Swift Lane, Kent, CT, died Friday at the home of his stepson in Sherman.
Mr. Cioffi was born in the Bronx, NY, June 7, 1914, a son of Ferdinando and Giovanna (Apostilico) Cioffi.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy.
He had been employed by the Hudson Paint Division of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. from 1936 to 1976.
He had lived in Sherman since 1978 moving to Kent in 1982.
He is survived by a son, Gary Cioffi of Spotswood, NJ; four stepsons, Ronald Pizzarelli of Sherman, Tony Pizzarelli, Ralph Pizzarelli and John Pizzarelli of Long Island, NY; one stepdaughter, Frances Andrews of Brooklyn, NY; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Sherman

Jane Socha Bolduc
Jane (Socha) Bolduc, 54, of 1 New Hampshire Avenue, Three Rivers, MA, sister of Sister Maryann Socha of the Community of the Mother of God of Tenderness, 79 Golden Hill, Danbury, and wife of Paul A. Bolduc, died at her home on Monday morning after a brief illness.
Mrs. Bolduc was born in Ludlow, MA, June 9, 1944, a daughter of the late Thaddeus and Helen (Wirzbcki) Socha. She attended Ludlow schools and graduated from Cathedral High School, Springfield, MA, Class of 1961.
Mrs. Bolduc was a former teller at the Palmer Savings Bank of Palmer, MA and in later years a clerk at Tenczar's Food Market in Three Rivers.
She was a member of St. Thomas' R.C. Church of Palmer, MA.
In addition to her husband and sister, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law; Paul, Jr., and Ann Marie Bolduc of No. Hampton, MA. as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10AM in St. Thomas R.C. Church, Palmer, MA. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Ida Mae Abner
Ida Mae Abner, age 90, of 22 Hospital Ave., Danbury, died at Heritage Heights Nursing Home on Friday. She is the wife of the late Costello Abner. Mrs. Abner was born in Plant City, FL, February 27, 1908 a daughter of the late Rev. Jesse and Ida Mae Turner.
Mrs. Abner is survived by a daughter Vivian Miller, Baltimore, MD, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services and interment will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

Elsie C. Ryan
Elsie C. Ryan, 83, the widow of Philip J. Ryan, and a former secretary at Western Connecticut State University, died Tuesday at Danbury Hospital.
Mrs. Ryan was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Dec. 10, 1915, a daughter of Joseph and Fannie Kran Gramer. She and her husband had made their home in Flushing, Queens, N.Y., until returning to Mr. Ryan's home town of Danbury, in 1959. A graduate of Mineola High School, she had operated a secretarial service from her home, and was associated with her husband in the operation of the former Ryan's Package Store, on White Street, and had served as a secretary at Wesconn for many years. She had been a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church.
Although predeceased by her husband in 1983, and two brothers, she is survived by her daughter, Frances C. Ryan, of 100 Park Avenue, Danbury, and 2 sisters-in-law, Helen and Jeanne Gramer, both of New York, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church, Danbury, on Saturday, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.

Pearl Harriman
Pearl "HelenCharlotte Harriman, 88, of Bethel, formerly of Redding, died Wednesday at home. She was the widow of Robert Linwood Harriman.
Mrs. Harriman was born on April 15, 1910 in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of George O. and Julia Johnson Dudley. She was raised in Redding where she attended Umpawaug Schoolhouse, now a historic one-room schoolhouse. Mrs. Harriman continued her education by taking the train from West Redding into Danbury to attend Danbury High School where she graduated in 1928. She married Robert Harriman in 1928 and they raised their family in Redding. During WW II she was a volunteer Airplane Spotter at the Air Raid Observation Post which was located on her parents' property in Redding. In the 1950s she worked at John McLean's, on Main Street in Danbury, as a bookkeeper and put her children through college. Mrs. Harriman was a member of the Long Ridge United Methodist Church all her adult life. She was famous for her baked beans, lemon meringue pie and chocolate chip cookies.
Mrs. Harriman is survived by a son, Les Harriman of Bethel; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Ida Dos Santos.

Charles Klaussner Jr.
Charles W. Klaussner Jr., 68, a resident of Danbury for more than 30 years, died Jan. 26, 1999 in Danbury.
He was born in White Plains, N.Y., April 30, 1930, a son of Charles W. and Caroline Dexheimer Klaussner. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Katonah.
Before moving to Danbury, Mr. Klaussner lived in Brewster.
He was employed for more than 30 years as a maintenance engineer at Heli-Coil Co. in Danbury. Mr. Klaussner retired in 1996.
He is survived by a sister, Nancy Durkin of Brewster; nine nieces and nephews; 15 grandnieces and grandnephews; and 16 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
A Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, Brewster. Burial will take place in St. Lawrence O'Toole Cemetery.
Calling hours are Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster.
