Mark E. Berube
WATERBURY – Mark Ernest Berube, 62, of Terryville died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was the husband of Connie (Kirkpatrick) Berube. Mark was born in Waterbury on October 26, 1953, son of the late Ernest W. Berube and Mary (Warner) Berube. Mark was a graduate of Saints Peter and Paul Elementary School, Sacred Heart High School, Southern Connecticut State University (B.S.), and Concordia University (M.Ed.). Mark was the teacher of the STEP Program at Wolcott High School and previously the teacher for school’s Phoenix Program. He also served on the Board of Education for the town of Plymouth. He was a dedicated and loving teacher who always saw the best in each of his students.
He is survived by his wife Connie Berube of Terryville; his two sons, Paul Berube and his partner Eric Hamel of Cambridge, MA, and Christopher Berube and his wife Lauren (Cincotta) Berube of Glastonbury and their mother MaryAnn Berube; two step-daughters, Jody Brouillard and her husband Gary of Waterbury and Melanie Kirkpatrick of Rochester, NY; and his grandchildren Ryan and Katrina Kirkpatrick who resided with him. He is also survived by two sisters and two brothers, Susan Rinaldi of Aurora, CO, Marita Dorozenski and her husband Richard of Newtown, Stephen Berube Sr. and his wife Cecile of Torrance, CA, and John Berube and his wife Maureen of Woodbury; and grandchildren Reese and Chase Berube, Seth and Alicia Jordan and her fiancé Angel Zamora, and Anthony and Matthew Brouillard. He had numerous nieces and nephews.
Mark had a love for golf and was the Secretary of the Summit Golf League at Crestbrook. He loved a day on the golf course with his son Christopher as well as an afternoon in the kitchen with his son Paul or granddaughter Katrina. Above all, family was everything to Mark and we all cherished him for that love. Mark’s love was so great that every student that he ever taught became a member of his extended family. Because of that love and passion, the number of lives he touched was innumerable.
The funeral will be held Saturday June 11, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St. to S.S. Peter & Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Road for a Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

John Terrence "J.T." Marcil
Proud and Loving Uncle
WATERBURY - John Terrence Marcil (J.T.) was born on July 11, 1989 in Waterbury CT during the hurricane. He was born to a big, loving, supportive family. J.T. was a fighter from the moment he was born. He died unexpectedly on March 26th, 2016 after ongoing medical challenges related to Spina Bifida.
J.T. led a beautiful life full of passions and challenges. He graduated from St. Mary’s Grammar School in 2003 and Sacred Heart High School in 2007, both in Waterbury. He was a part of the Cruisers and was a gifted athlete in swimming, and competing in track and field. He traveled to the Cayman Islands to go Scuba Diving. He loved wrestling, comedy, and tattoos. But what he loved the most was being out at the lake; surrounded by his family, most especially his nieces, nephews, and his fiancée.
J.T. is pre-deceased by his maternal grandparents, John (Jack) Rourke and Eleanor Rourke, and his paternal grandfather, Ronald Marcil.
He is survived by his beautiful family: His parents, Colleen Rourke Marcil and Jerry Marcil, formerly of Waterbury. His siblings: Kara Marcil Currier and her husband Tom, Dan Marcil and his wife Crystal, Sean Marcil and Kelly Mangan, Tim Marcil and his wife Michelle, and his sisters Kait and Kat Marcil.
His nieces and nephews, who were the joy of his life: Isabel, Lucas, Caden, Tavis, Andre, Jeremiah, Nathan, Avery, Benjamin, Ryan, Colin, and Dylan.
His aunts and uncles: Tim and Mary Ellen Rourke, Jack and Jean Rourke, Terry and cousin Catherine Rourke, and Kevin and Karen Rourke, and Rhonda Marcil. His cousins, Lauralee Asch of California, Lauren Coulter, Jay and Rose Ahern, and James and Eileen Trainor.
J.T. Left behind many great friends, especially Tony Vitarelli and Angela Mini.
J.T. was engaged to be married, and also leaves behind his fiancée, Fiona de Merell, who was the love of his life.
Calling hours are Friday April 1, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St. Home, . 115 Willow St. Waterbury. There will be a service at 5:30 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Leonard R. Thrall, Jr.
TORRINGTON – Leonard R. Thrall, Jr., 61 of Torrington died Saturday January 9, 2016 as the result of an automobile accident.
Leonard was born April 18, 1954 in Torrington son of Janet (Nevin) Thrall of Torrington and the late Leonard R. Thrall, Sr.
Besides his mother he is survived by three daughters, Stacy Blakeslee of Torrington, Jessie Thrall of West Palm Beach, FL, and Marci Thrall of Bridgeport, his sisters and brother, Marie Meserole and her husband Gil of Branford, Lynn Thrall of Hamden, Jane Nemence of Waterbury, Judith Skirkanich of Oakville, Robert Thrall and his wife Diane of Valley Village, CA, and Diane Capaldo of Wolcott, 8 grandchildren, Nicholas, Dennis, Naomi, Bobbie, Isaiah, Adrianna, Elijah, and Jessiah, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved former wife, Linda Thrall. Besides his father he was predeceased by a brother, Peter Thrall, a sister, Lorrie O’Connell and two nieces, Michele Boucher and Cheryl Thrall.

Helen M. Allard Fontaine
Helen Marie Allard Fontaine passed away on November 23, 2015 surrounded by her family at the Alzheimer’s Resource Center of Connecticut (ARC). She was born on July 8, 1927 in Waterbury, CT, to the late George Allard and Margaret (Hubbard) Allard Saint Sauveur.
Her husband, the love of her life, Armand Fontaine, preceded her into death 23 years ago. She is survived by her daughters: Sharon Terry and husband Patrick of Chevy Chase, Maryland; Janice Smith and husband Robert of Naugatuck, CT; and Nancy Pereau and husband Tom of Southington, CT; and her daughter-in-law, Amie Beaulieu of Bristol, CT. Helen’s son, Stephen, passed away 22 years ago. Also surviving Helen are her seven grandchildren: Jessica Messenger and husband Brandon, Sarah Estle and husband Jason, Caitlin Smith, Elizabeth Terry and wife Erin Oliphant, Ian Terry and wife Michelle Posey, Amanda Beaulieu, and Tyler Pereau. Helen was also blessed by four great-grandchildren, Tyce and Quinn Messenger, and Jayden and MacKenzie Estle.
Helen lived in Waterbury, CT for the first 6 decades of her life after which she retired with Armand to the Berkshires. In the last 20 years, she lived with her daughter in Southington, CT until she moved to ARC in 2010. Helen worked in several of Waterbury’s war time factories, and then as a keypunch instructor. For most of her working years, she worked in data entry for the City of Waterbury and for the Public Schools. She most enjoyed their home on a lake in the Berkshires. In her last years, she was exceptionally cared for by ARC and blossomed there in their love.
Funeral services for Helen will be held on Saturday November 28 at 9:30 AM at Saint Francis Xavier Church, 625 Baldwin Street, Waterbury, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 203 Spring Lake Road, Waterbury. The Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St., Waterbury is in charge of arrangements.

Sophie (Shymanski) Gronowicz
FARMINGTON - Sophie (Shymanski) Gronowicz, died at the age of 94 on April 30, 2013 in Farmington, CT where she lived independently at the Village Gate.
Sophie was born and raised in New York City, where she became the first woman on the masthead of Popular Mechanics as Manager of Classified Advertising. She also was in charge of the Bureau of Information and answered questions on projects. Prior to this, she headed the Scholarly Books Section at the old Barnes and Nobles on Manhattan’s 18th street.
She was married
to Antoni Gronowicz, well-known Polish-American writer, who died in 1985. Sophie was an extremely independent and progressive thinker and woman of her time, yet family was everything to her.
Her brother Bill and sister Helen, parents Mary and Theodore predeceased Sophie. She leaves behind her son, Anthony, and daughter, Gloria; granddaughter Lili, and grandsons, John and Daniel; nieces Linda Rammler, Carol Shymanski and Tina Shymanski and nephew David Shymanski.
Sophie will be missed for her sharp wit and hard work on behalf of her family; an amazing example of a woman who did everything with independence and class.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family in New York City. The Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street in Waterbury is in charge of arrangements.
Juanita Krise
MIDDLEBURY – Juanita (Goad) Krise, 81, of Middlebury, formerly of Nashville, TN, died September 10, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Mrs. Krise was born February 2, 1934 in Greensboro, MD daughter of the late Clarence and Ruby Lee (Bowman) Goad and had moved to Connecticut recently to be near her daughter. She was a creative woman and had worked as a seamstress for Opryland USA.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynn Curless and her husband, Christian and their children, Sarah and Jeffrey Curless of Watertown, and her son, Ben Krise and his wife Nancy of Kentucky.
Funeral arrangements are at the convenience of the family. The Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St. is in charge of arrangements.
Mary "Mae" (Fitzgerald) Skerritt
Loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother
Mary “Mae” (Fitzgerald) Skerritt, 85 formerly of Waterbury and Southington died peacefully after an extended illness at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Larry Winar on August 18, 2015. Widow of Joseph F. Skerritt, Mae was born in Waterbury on the feast Day of the Immaculate Conception, December 8, 1929, to Phillip and Mary (Roache) and Fitzgerald.
Mae was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and was a stay at home mother until all her children were of school age. She then began a long career in banking in the City of Waterbury. Mae loved spending time with her family and attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting, dance and school events.
Mae loved to sing, dance, golf, and was also an avid sewer, knitter and crafter. She also enjoyed spending winters in Fort Myers, Florida with her beloved husband Joe.
Known to many as Mae, she was a genuinely warm, kind, loving, spirited person and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her beloved children:Jay (Cindy) Skerritt of Wolcott, Mary (Larry) Winar of New Hartford, Kathy (Ken) O’Toole, Patty (Randy) Poulter of Waterbury and John Skerritt of Derby; ten grandchildren: Ryan (Shannon), Eric (Megan) and Katie O’Toole, Sara (Jim) Hanley, Craig (Kara), Dennis and Kelsey Poulter, Joe, Patrick and Jenna Skerritt; three great grandchildren Natalie and Emerson O’Toole and James Hanley; a sister Kathleen Meehan and sister-in-law who was like a sister to her Barbara McDonough both of Southington and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Mae’s care givers Jennifer, Manuela, Sonia and Alissa for their compassionate care, love and support.
Funeral will be held on Saturday August 22, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. form the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St. to SS. Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Road, Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 2324 East Main Street, Waterbury. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday August 21, 2015 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
