Rev. Joseph F. Gorman
Former Pastor of St. Leo the Great Church

Rev. Joseph F. Gorman of Waterbury, CT died Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in Plantsville. He was born in Waterbury on October 2, 1929 to John W. and Mary Louise “Mae” Flanagan Gorman.
Father Joe attended Barnard School and graduated from Sacred Heart Grammar and High Schools – all in Waterbury. He then entered St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, and St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, MD. He was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest at St. Joseph Cathedral, Hartford on May 19, 1955. He said his First Mass at his home parish, St. Patrick, Waterbury. He later earned a Master’s degree in Counseling from St. Joseph College, West Hartford.
His priestly assignments were as curate at St. Bernard, Sharon; St. Anthony, Litchfield; Our Lady of Mercy, Plainville; St. Patrick-St. Anthony, Hartford; co-pastor at St. Mary, Milford; administrator at St. Anne, Waterbury; pastor at St. Aloysius, Plantsville; and pastor at St. Leo the Great, Waterbury. While retired, Father served as temporary administrator at Patrick and St. Joseph parishes, Waterbury. Besides these assignments, he was also a part time teacher and then guidance counselor at Sacred Heart High School.
Father Joe loved the priesthood and performed his duties well. He was attentive to the needs and instruction of youth, visiting the sick, and assisting and comforting those in their final hours. He was well known for the help he gave to countless families.
He was an expert skier and top notch golfer, a #1 fan of the Boston Red Sox through thick and thin and of the N.Y. Giants.
Father is survived by his sister Loretta Gorman Delaney and her husband John of Farmington, CT and his cousin Barbara Keane Whitlock and her husband Bob of Danbury, CT.
Also left to grieve are his nieces and nephews: Beth Gorman Doolan, Atty. John H. Gorman, Jr., William J. Gorman, and Thomas J. Gorman – all of Waterbury ; James C. Marciano, Jr. of Southington and Joseph F. Marciano of Groton; Lorrie Delaney Lusebrink of Trumbull, J.B. Delaney of San Jose, CA and Edward J. Delaney of Oakland, CA. He also left grand nieces and nephews, several cousins and many, many dear friends.
Besides his parents, Father Joe was pre-deceased by his aunt Grace E. Flanagan of Waterbury, uncles Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry E. Flanagan of East Norwalk and Rev. Joseph F. Flanagan of Windsor, his brothers John H. Gorman and James J. Gorman, his sister Mary Lou Marciano – all of Waterbury, his cousin Rev. Harold J. Flanagan of Warehouse Pt., his niece Betsy Delaney of Farmington and his grandniece Jennifer Gorman of Waterbury.
The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Church, 14 Bentwood Drive, Waterbury. The Most Reverend Leonard P. Blair, Archbishop of Hartford, will be the principal celebrant. Burial will be in New St. Joseph cemetery in Waterbury. Calling hours are on Monday March 2, 2015 from 4 – 7 p.m. and Tuesday March 3, 2015 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Church. A Parish Mass will be celebrated following the wake on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Donations, if desired, would be appreciated by St. Leo the Great Church 14 Bentwood Drive, Waterbury, CT 06705 or the Alzheimer’s Resource Center 1261 South Main Street, Plantsville, CT 06479.
His family would like to thank all his care givers at the Alzheimer’s Center for the care and kind and thoughtful respect given Father Joe.

Marc Francis Mulhall
Goodwin College Student/Bartender

WATERBURY - Mr. Marc Francis Mulhall, age 24, passed away unexpectedly Saturday February 21, 2015 from a tragic automobile accident.
Marc was born in Waterbury April 16, 1990 the loving son of Thomas and Mary Mulhall.
Marc graduated from St. Mary’s Grammar School and Holy Cross High School. He was currently attending Goodwin College pursuing a degree in nursing. He was employed by Marisa’s Restaurant as a bartender.
Marc Francis was a happy and energetic young man who loved life, his family and his friends. Marc’s warm smile, his beautiful blue eyes and big heart will truly be missed.
Besides his parents Marc is survived by his beloved brothers, Tommy, Chris, Alex and Ryan. He is the grandson of Francis and Barbara Mulhall and the late Arnoldo and Alicia Ojeda of Del Rio, TX. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins from Connecticut and Texas.
The Funeral Mass will be Friday February 27, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Basilica of The Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main St. Those attending are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Elementary School, 43 Cole Street, Waterbury, CT 06706.

William E. O’Donnell, Sr.
Retired Firefighter

WATERBURY - William E. O’Donnell Sr., 76, passed away during the evening of Wednesday, January 21, 2015, with his family at his side.
Affectionately known as “Pop”, he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra; children and their spouses, William Jr., Brian & Julie, Kevin & Barbara, Tracie & Don, Jay & Sue; brother, Edward and his wife Sandra; and 13 grandchildren. He’s pre-deceased by his father, James; mother, Arlene; brothers, James and John; and grandson, Shaun Michael.
A longtime civil servant, the Waterbury Fire Department knew him as “WE-O” until he retired in 1993 after 27 years of service at Engine 10 on Field St. He was the third generation of the O’Donnell family to have served on the Waterbury Fire Department, and his grandson, William E. O'Donnell, III is continuing the family history with the Middletown Fire Department. He also drove a city school bus for over 25 years.
William’s active life always gravitated towards sports and games. He golfed throughout his life, in particular during his retirement in Murrells Inlet, SC, and also played baseball for Wilby High School in his youth. He coached football for the Waterbury Knights and baseball and basketball for VFW 201, as well. He was very fond of watching his sons’ race at Stafford Speedway and his grandchildren play a variety of sports for many years. He spent many nights playing cribbage with family and friends at the Elks, in his home, or at a campground, where he spent large parts of his summers.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Carrie, Sharon, and Cindy of Hartford Healthcare at Home of Waterbury for the daily care and love and Christine and Chaim for making his final days safe and comfortable.
The funeral with Waterbury Fire Department honors will be on Monday January 26, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St. to St. Francis Xavier Church, 625 Baldwin Street for a Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Dorothy (Stuart) Scully

WATERBURY - Dorothy (Stuart) Scully, 85, of Waterbury, died unexpectedly on Friday January 16, 2015 at her home. She was the widow of Charles F. Scully.
Mrs. Scully was born in Waterbury on August 25, 1929 daughter of the late George W. and Grace (Hurley) Stuart. She graduated from Sprague Grammar School, Crosby High School and Post Junior College.
Dorothy was one of the original employees of First Federal Savings and Loan. She enjoyed a second career in clothing sales at Reads and Talbots stores after raising her family.
Dorothy enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, breakfast in the company of her friends, and her daily trips to morning Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church where she had been a communicant for many years.
Mrs. Scully is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Spina and her husband Nicholas of FL, Lisa Scully of Wallingford, Brenda Scully of Waterbury, two grandsons, Christopher and Matthew Spina, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her two brothers, Edward and Franklin Stuart and her sister, Mary Jane Loesch.
The funeral will be Thursday January 22, 2015 at 9 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St. to Blessed Sacrament Church, 182 Robbins Street for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Old St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Georgiana D. Blake

WATERBURY - Georgiana D. Blake, 75, of Waterbury, died Monday January 19, 2015 after a short illness.
She was born in Waterbury on February 14, 1939 the daughter of the late George DeBonis and Marie (Duer) DeBonis. She graduated from Kingsbury Elementary, Wilby High School and Southern Connecticut State University with both graduate and postgraduate degrees in education.
Georgiana worked serving young people as a teacher in the city of Waterbury at several schools during her long career including Russell, Chase, Maloney and Wallace Middle.
She enjoyed quilting, singing, plays, music, traveling to the coast of Maine and enjoying time with her loving grandchildren. Any time she could cook or eat with family and friends brought her great joy.
Mrs. Blake is survived by her two daughters, Laura Blake, Kristen Blake Susman and her husband Mark, three grandsons, Joshua, Alexander and Blake Susman and a granddaughter, Sofia Allen. Her sister Margret Richardson, her brothers Michael and George DeBonis, wife Diane, nephews Steven, Daniel, Miles and Michael Christopher.
Her family is grateful to Waterbury Hospital and to The Highlands Healthcare Center for their caring and support.
Calling hours will be at the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street on Friday January 23, 2015 from 4pm to 7pm. Burial will be private.

Daniel W. Chasse

NAUGATUCK - Daniel W. Chasse, 68, of Naugatuck died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Marlene (Ouellette) Chasse.
Mr. Chasse was born in Waterbury September 29, 1946, son of the late Frederick B. Chasse, Sr. and Alice M. (LeVasseur) Chasse.
Mr. Chasse graduated from Wilby High School and the University of New Haven, and was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Vietnam War.
He was a Certified Public Accountant and retired from his firm, Finer, Chasse, and Marcarelli.
Danny was an avid Boston Red Sox and UConn Men’s Basketball fan, enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Waterbury Elks Club.
Besides his wife Marlene of 43 years, he is survived by his three children, Ann Hirsch and her husband Andy of NY, Daniel W. Chasse, Jr. and his wife Trish of East Hartford, and Nicole Davis and her husband Joe of NJ. Also seven grandchildren, Max and Adam Hirsch, Chandler and Kasey Chasse, Gabby, Ana, and Joey Davis, his brother, Ranie L. Chasse and his wife Jacqueline, his sister, Lydia M. Tamberino, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Frederick B. Chasse, Jr., and his twin sister, Leona Cerullo.
Funeral will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 9 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St. to Blessed Sacrament Church, 182 Robbins Street for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
