Evelyn A. (Clifford) Graham

MIDDLEBURY - Evelyn A. (Clifford) Graham, 92 of Middlebury, formerly of Waterbury died peacefully Sunday January 15, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Middlebury. She was the widow of William J. Graham.
Mrs. Graham was born in Hartford September 2, 1919 daughter of the late Edward and Alice (Shipman) Clifford. She had been a Waterbury resident most of her life graduating from Crosby High School and Post Junior College.
Mrs. Graham had worked for 20 years in the Admitting Office at Waterbury Hospital and continued to volunteer at the hospital until the time of her death. She also had volunteered at Gaylord Hospital and was a lifelong parishioner of St. John’s Episcopal Church on the Green in Waterbury.
Mrs. Graham is survived by her two children, Dr. Edward “Ned” Graham of Waterville and Augusta, ME, Deborah J. Slight and her husband Dennis of Middlebury, and two grandsons, Bryan and Shaun Slight. She was predeceased by her sister, Jean Saunders.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday January 21, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Joan T. Bouffard

WATERBURY - Joan T. Bouffard, 57, of Willow St., died peacefully Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at her home.
Joan was born in Waterbury July 3, 1954 daughter of the late Victor and Angela (Adanosky) Aluknavich. She had worked for Discovertel in Hartford as a network administrator for 10 years and was Microsoft certified in operation and maintenance for computer networking. She loved her pets, and collecting and making jewelry.
Joan is survived by 2 sons; Michael Bouffard of Waterbury and Philip Bouffard and his wife Trisha of Waterbury. Philip is in the US Army stationed in Germany. She is also survived by one sister, Linda Riley of Waterbury and one brother, Anthony Aluknavich of Wetland, TX.
Funeral service will be Wednesday April 4th at 7:30 pm at the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street with Pastor John Lopez of the Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Wednesday from 5:00 pm until 7:30 pm at the funeral home.

William J. Cosmos

WATERTOWN - William J. Cosmos, 90, of Watertown, widower of Avis (Taggett) Hoff-Cosmos passed away at the Watertown Convalarium March 28, 2012.
He was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts September 24, 1921 to the late Joseph and Adelaide (LeMos) Cosmos-Schmidt, was educated in New Bedford and then joined the Seabee's branch of the United States Navy during World War II. Upon his discharge he joined the United Association of Plumbers & Steamfitters where he had 65 years of membership, retiring in 1986 from CT Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 777 after 40 years of service. Living his life with the same credo as the Seabee's motto; "Can do. With willing hearts and skillful hands; the difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. With compassion for others we build, we fight, for peace with freedom."
Bill, as he was known to his family and friends spent his life serving others; one need only ask for help and he was there pitching in. Bill loved to cook and always had a cake, muffins or cookies in the oven earning the nickname "the muffin man" by his grandchildren. His specialty cake was named the "Avis special" in honor of his wife, a confection of dark chocolate cake with fudge frosting. He also loved to golf, country music and to dance, frequenting the Terryville Country Music Dance Hall on Saturday nights dancing every dance until closing. Bill's favorite saying was "hang loose", his way of saying till we meet again.
He is survived by his sons; William Cosmos Jr., John Cosmos and his wife Betsy of Florida, Richard Begnoche, and his wife Pat of Virginia, Douglas Cosmos of Arkansas, and Chester Hoff and his wife Elaine of Oakville, and his daughters, Irene Milton and her husband Doug of San Diego, CA, Rosemary Brennan and her husband Bob of Waterbury, Elizabeth Muzzicato and her husband Art of Watertown and Cynthia Perkins of Cheshire, 13 grandchildren, and 3 great¬ grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters; Joan Labonte and Beverly Hurbon of Wolcott, and brothers; Joseph Cosmos of Wolcott and Frederick Cosmos of Middlebury, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Deborah Cosmos and his brothers Lawrence, Robert, John, Charles and Frank, his sister Theresa Cosmos, and two grandchildren, Neil O'Rourke and Christie Torres.
The funeral will be Monday April 2nd at 9:00 am from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St., Waterbury to St. John the Evangelist Church, 574 Main St., Watertown for a Mass at 10:00 am. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hour is Monday from 8:00 am until 9:00 am at the funeral home.

R. Gregg Farrell

WATERBURY - R. Gregg Farrell, 79, of Waterbury died Monday March 12, 2012 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Jeanne (Sheehy) Farrell.
Gregg was born in Waterbury December 22, 1932 son of the late Raymond G. and Maye (Lynath) Farrell. He was a lifelong Waterbury resident having graduated from St. Mary’s Grammar School, Crosby High School, and Suffolk University in Boston, class of 1960 with a BS degree in Business Administration.
Gregg was a U.S. Air Force Veteran from 1951-55 having served as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War where he served as a Personnel Counselor.
Gregg was a self-employed Insurance Investigator with his business, R.G .Farrell Associates retiring in 1997.
Gregg was an avid Red Sox fan and took great pleasure seeing his team finally win two World Championships. His quick wit and engaging personality is what drew people to him.
Besides his wife Jeanne he is survived by his daughter, Marita J. Farrell of Boston, MA, his in laws, Sister Catherine Sheehy and Sister Anita Sheehy both of Norwalk, Patricia and Stephen Sheehy of Watertown, Margaret Sheehy of Southbury, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be Friday March 16, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street to St. Margaret Church, 289 Willow Street for a Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral.

Henry "Harry" P. Doolan

WATERBURY - Henry P. “Harry” Doolan, 92, of Waterbury died Thursday January 19, 2012 at Abbott Terrace Health Center. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Arlene (Sheppard) Doolan.
Mr. Doolan was born in Waterbury October 13, 1919 son of the late Henry W. and Marguerite (Kennedy) Doolan. He was a lifelong Waterbury resident having graduated from St. Mary’s Grammar School and Leavenworth High School where he was a member of both the baseball and basketball teams.
Mr. Doolan was a WWII U.S.Army Veteran having served in the Pacific Theatre. He was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in action on March 4, 1944 in Los Nagus. He participated in the East Indies, Papuan, and New Guinea campaigns.
He returned to Waterbury after the war and was appointed on February 20, 1946 to the Waterbury Fire Department. He was stationed at Engine’s 7, 9, 11 and Truck 1 and 3 and worked as a driver before retiring on March 11, 1982.
Mr. Doolan was an avid golfer having played in various leagues over the years and was Life Member of V.F.W. Post 5964 where he has served as Post Commander from 1962-63.
Mr. Doolan is survived by his cousin, Francis “Pup” Doolan of Waterbury and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, John Philip Doolan who died in 1963, his sister, Imelda, and his step-mother, Mary Crowe.
Funeral will be held Monday January 23, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street with Waterbury Fire Department honors to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main Street for a Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral.

Rose D. Keane

WATERBURY - Rose Daisy (Santos) Keane was born in Waterbury January 5, 1932 to the late Abel and Virginia Santos. Rose passed on April 16, 2012 surrounded by family and in the prayers of many who knew her.
They include her three children and spouses: Kathy and William Hunt of Wolcott, Gerald Jr. and Kimberly Keane of Waterbury, and Eileen and Mike Riley of Waterbury, and her surviving brothers and sister: Joe Santos, Leo Santos, Al Santos, Anthony Santos and Emily Stevens. Rose was the proud grandmother of Billy, Patrick and Kaitlin Hunt, Sean, Ryan, Meghan and Erin Keane; Ian, Colin and Molly Riley, as well as a great grandmother to Emily and Allison Keane, the children of Sean and Danielle. She is predeceased by her brothers, August Santos and Abel Santos.
As a long-time resident of the East End, Rose attended S.S. Peter and Paul Church, retired from Bradlees Department Store and lived at Eastgate Apartments for many years. Rose had a large extended family that loved her. Her children and grandchildren are very thankful for all their support and caring.
The family also wishes to thank all the care givers and medical staff who helped Rose during her long-term illness, particularly VITAS, Hospice Care at St. Mary’s Hospital. Rose was a person of much courage and heart and resolved to live fully as long as she could and will be missed.
The Funeral will be Thursday April 19th, 2012 at 9:30 am from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street to S.S. Peter & Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Road for a Mass at 10:30 am. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Wednesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Thomas J. Dodds
Fourth Generation Waterbury Policeman Dies

With great sadness, we announce that Thomas J. Dodds of Waterbury, Connecticut, beloved husband of Eleanor W. (Walsh) Dodds, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2012 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Dodds was born on April 23, 1932 in Waterbury, Connecticut, to Thomas M. and Mildred (Dawson) Dodds and was educated in the Waterbury public schools. Upon graduation, Mr. Dodds served his country in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Harneson between the years 1952 and 1957, receiving an honorable discharge. With his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Waterbury and joined the Waterbury Police Department in 1956.
Upon joining the Waterbury Police Department, Mr. Dodds continued his family tradition of serving the citizens of the City beginning the fourth generation of police service which started in 1882. His great-grandfather, Thomas M. Dodds, served the City first between 1882 and 1917, followed by Thomas F. Dodds who served between 1899 and 1929 and then his father who served between 1924 and 1955.
Thomas J. Dodds was a quiet, intelligent and thoughtful man, known for his extraordinary wit. He was an avid fan of UCONN women's basketball and Providence College men's basketball.
In her recommendation of marriage to Eleanor, Eleanor's aunt said of Tom, “He's better than medicine" as a comment for his ability, with warmth, calm and good humor, to navigate what would be 49 years of marriage.
Loved by a legion of nieces and nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, respected by his fellow police officers, appreciated by citizens of the City for his care and compassion and by his wife, who was blessed with his love and companionship for over 50 years, he will be missed.
The Funeral Mass will be Wednesday March 21, 2012 at 10:00 am at the Basilica of The Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main St. Burial will follow in Old St. Joseph Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St. is in charge of arrangements.
