Joseph Mark Sullivan
WATERBURY - Joseph Mark Sullivan, 69, of Waterbury died Friday June 4, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Christine (Doherty) Sullivan.
Mr. Sullivan was born in Waterbury November 9, 1940 son of the late Joseph B. and Matilda (Nelson) Sullivan. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, where he was President of the Class of 1958 and also co-captain of the football team. Mr. Sullivan then attended St. Thomas Seminary and graduated from the Connecticut Military Academy in Niantic with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He was also a graduate of the Connecticut School of Electronics.
Mr. Sullivan was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 102nd Infantry of the Connecticut Army National Guard, the American Legion, a communicant of S.S. Peter & Paul Church and St. Leo the Great Church. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
Mr. Sullivan worked as an electrician for Scovill Manufacturing, Century Brass, and New Departure-Hyatt.
Besides his wife of 47 years he is survived by 2 daughters, Ellen Sullivan Frenis and her husband James of Prospect and Marion Sullivan Colgan and her husband William Colgan, Jr. of Waterbury. 1 son, Paul Joseph Sullivan and his wife Annmarie of Waterbury. 6 grandchildren, Christopher, Nora, and Kate Colgan, Elizabeth and Julianne Frenis, and Julia Sullivan.
Funeral will be held Tuesday June 8, 2010 at 9:30 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street to S.S. Peter & Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Road for a Mass at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday June 7th from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Florence (Brumpton) Cunningham
CHESHIRE - Florence (Brumpton) Cunningham, 85, of Cheshire, formerly of Waterbury died Saturday May 22, 2010 at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain. She was the widow of James W. Cunningham.
Mrs. Cunningham was born in Brisbane, Australia July 12, 1924 daughter of the late Ernest and Florence Brumpton. She met her husband Jim during his service in WWII and came to the United States in 1946. She was a resident of Waterbury for many years.
Mrs. Cunningham graduated from Naugatuck Valley Community College in 1986 having earned her associates degree. She retired from Unisys Corporation in 1989 after 25 years of service.
Mrs. Cunningham was a member of the Waterbury YMCA Silver Sneakers and a communicant of St. Bridget Church in Cheshire.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Jennings and her husband Barrett of Cheshire, her son, Ned Cunningham and his wife Mary Ellen of Greensboro, GA and Waterford, CT. 5 grandchildren, Meredith Fiorentino, Christopher Jennings, Meghan Edwards, Kathleen Lang, and Erin Cunningham. 2 great grandchildren, Mallory and Ryan Jennings. 3 sisters, Thora Workman and Beryl Mitchell both of Australia, and Olive Aydelotte of WA. She was predeceased by a brother, Osborne Brumpton.
Funeral will be held Tuesday May 25, 2010 at 10:00 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street to St. Bridget Church, 175 Main Street, Cheshire for a Mass at 11:00 AM. Burial in Old St. Joseph Cemetery, Waterbury. Callings hours Monday May 24 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

John C. Delaney
Waterbury - John C. “Yugo” Delaney, 89 of Waterbury died Tuesday May 18, 2010 at Masonicare in Wallingford. He was the husband of the late Mary (Smith) Delaney.
He was born in Waterbury April 17, 1921 son of the late John J. and Alice (Murphy) Delaney and lived in the Washington Hill section of Waterbury for most of his life. He attended St. Francis Xavier Grammar School and Wilby High School. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and received various decorations including a commendation for bravery.
Mr. Delaney retired in 1986 from Anaconda Metal Hose where he worked for over forty years. He was a member of the VFW Post 201, Waterbury Lodge of Elks, American Legion, Washington Hill Community Club, the South End Senior Center, and a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at Café Europa.
He was a lifelong baseball fan supporting the Boston Red Sox. He was an avid card player, long time bowler and great all around Irishman.
He is survived by 2 sons: David J. Delaney and his wife, Ginny of Wallingford, and Gary F. Delaney and his wife Deanna of Quinlan, TX, four grandchildren: Kristin of Delray Beach, FL, Karen of Stamford, Brittany, and Meghan, both of Quinlan, TX. Also many nieces and nephews, and relatives all over the US, Ireland and Australia. He was predeceased by his sister, Maureen and brothers Jeremiah, Thomas and Francis.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Masonicare for the care given to their father.

Esther Reyes
WATERTOWN - Esther Reyes, 89, died on Tuesday May 4, 2010 at Apple Rehabilitation Center in Watertown surrounded by her loving family.
Esther was born October 17, 1920 in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico; she grew up in Mayaquez with her five brothers and seven sisters. She made her home in Watertown in 1999, moving here from Reno, NV and New York City.
Esther is survived by three daughters; Socorro Esther Figueroa and her husband Efrain of Florida, Puerto Rico, Amparo Erickson and her husband Eric of Wolcott, Adalgisa Mercado of Reno, NV, and a son, Alfred Vargas of San Francisco, CA. Also 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Maria Colon of Virginia Beach and Marta Reyes of Howell, NJ.
Esther served faithfully as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years and since 1999 in the East End Spanish Congregation in Waterbury.
Friends may call at the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow Street on Saturday May 8 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. A memorial discourse will follow immediately at the funeral home. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family.
Esther’s family wishes to express deep appreciation to the staff, particularly the nursing staff of Apple Rehabilitation for the loving and compassionate care extended to Esther during her stay there.
Barbara I. Dwyer
WATERBURY - Barbara I. Dwyer, 85, of Waterbury, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Southington Care Center. She was the widow of Paul F. Dwyer.
Mrs. Dwyer was born in Waterbury October 23, 1924 daughter of the late Gustave and Helen Teichert and had been a resident of the East Mountain section of the city. She retired from Holgrath Industries and was formerly employed at Timex Corp. She was a communicant of S.S. Peter & Paul Church.
Mrs. Dwyer is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St. is in charge of arrangements.
Cecile (Martin) Griffin
WATERBURY - Mrs. Cecile (Martin) Griffin, 79, formerly of 426 Homestead Ave, passed away peacefully Tuesday April 20, 2010, surrounded by her loving family at Paradigm Health Center. She was the wife of the late Dennis James Griffin Sr. Mrs. Griffin was born on June 25, 1930 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Daniel and Cecile (Wallace) Martin.
A lifelong resident of Waterbury, Cecile graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School and Saint Mary's Hospital School of Nursing. In later years, she went on to Mattatuck Community College, where she received an Associate's Degree. She worked as a Registered Nurse on the Labor and Delivery unit at Saint Mary's Hospital for 35 years, Cecile was a devout Catholic who was bound by family and faith. An avid animal lover and as one of five children, she enjoyed spending her childhood swimming and reading while relaxing on Hitchcock Lake and helping out at the family business, Martin's Drug Store.
Mrs. Griffin is survived by her son Dennis Jr., daughter Mary Alsdorf and husband Steven, daughter Paula Angelo and husband Rudy, with whom she made her home; daughter Madeline Goggins and husband Ken, and her son John Griffin. She also is survived by her brother, Paul Martin and a sister, Rita Harder. She is predeceased by a son Joseph, daughter in law Gayle, sister Ann Phelan and brother Daniel Martin.
Her true passion was spending time and caring for her 10 grandchildren. Allan and Sarah Griffin; Kristine Alsdorf; Katie, Kristin, and Eileen Angelo; Ryan, Coleen and Shaun Goggins; and Elisa Griffin.
The Griffin family would like to thank the entire staff of Paradigm Healthcare of Waterbury for their care and kindness in taking care of their mother.

Leo B. Conard, Jr.
Member of America’s Greatest Generation
WATERBURY - Leo B. Conard, Jr., 89, of Waterbury, died Friday April 16, 2010 at Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Phyllis (Lyttle) Conard.
Mr. Conard was born in Waterbury March 15, 1921 son of the late Leo B. and Catherine (Moore) Conard. He was a lifelong resident of Waterbury and was educated in local schools and also in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Wake Forest and Duke Universities.
Mr. Conard was a member of America’s Greatest Generation. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a rifle sharpshooter and received the American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon. He served in the European Theater of Operations and was awarded five battle stars involving battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, and the Battle of the Bulge in Ardennes.
Mr. Conard retired as a Purchasing Agent from Chase Brass & Copper Company and later worked as a Vice-President for Connecticut Brass & Copper in West Hartford. In later years he acted as a consultant on purchasing systems for area brass mills, among them The Miller Co. of Meriden, The New Haven Copper Co., and The Waterbury Rolling Mills. He was a member of the Prospect Senior Center and a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. He was an Irish Tenor and sang in the Chase Chorale when he worked at the company.
Mr. Conard is survived by his four children; Lynn Conard of Brookfield, Lee Conard, and his wife Cynthia of Terryville, Nancy Fiederlein, and her husband, Richard of Danbury, and Michael J. Conard, and his wife Maureen of Waterbury, He is also survived by one sister: Evelyn Conard of Waterbury, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Conard who lived in Canton, MA and twin granddaughters.
