Nancie J.Armstrong

Nancie J. Armstrong, 57, died on Monday, October 25, 1999 at the Stamford Hospital.

Born in Port Chester, N.Y. May 19, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Carolyn Miller Bang. She attended Port Chester Public Schools and was a Nanny with various employers.

Survivors include her son, John Bang of Danbury; three sisters, Barbara Romero of Riverside, Calif., Carolyn Pace of Danbury and Susan Mazza of Stamford; brother, Carmen Mazza Jr. of Stamford; stepfather, Carmen Mazza Sr. of Greenwich; two granddaughters, Andrea Marie and Kayla Danielle Bang; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Castiglione Funeral Home, Inc., 134 Hamilton Ave. in Greenwich on Friday, October 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial is private. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.

Robert L. Babb

Robert L. Babb, 73, of 501A Heritage Village, Southbury, died Tuesday, October 26, 1999 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband Phyllis (Hamilton) Babb.

Mr. Babb was born May 22, 1926 in Detroit, Mich., son of the late John and Loretto (Keenan) Babb. A graduate of Coe College, Mr. Babb was an Insurance Manager of the New Jersey Educational Association Income Protection Plan. He had lived in Westfield, N.J. for over 40 years before moving to Southbury in 1993.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Timothy Babb of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Patti J. Harris of Torrington; and four grandchildren, Matthew and Elizabeth Harris, Megan and Molly Babb.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 1, 1999 at Noon at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main Street North, Route 6. Burial will be in the New North Cemetery, Woodbury.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Heritage Village Ambulance Association, PO 2045, Southbury, CT 06488 or to the Shriners Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, Mass. 01104.

Iola Rozelle Floyd

Iola Rozelle Floyd, age 104, formerly of Stevens Street, Danbury, died at Hancock Hall, on Saturday. She was a widow of longtime Danbury educator, Chester E. Floyd.

Mrs. Floyd was born in New York City May 10, 1895, a daughter of the late Minor B. and Alice Cartwright Rozelle. Mrs. Floyd was a graduate of Higgins Classical Institute and Shaw's Secretarial College in Maine. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Danbury since 1931, former deaconess and president of the Women's Auxiliary.

Mrs. Floyd is survived by a daughter, Alice and her husband, Robert Sisterhenm of Norwalk; three grandchildren, Martha Harkins of Norwalk; Floyd A. Sisterhenm of St. Thomas, USVI and Robert L. Sisterhenm of Norwalk; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held in the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division Street, Danbury, Saturday, October 30, 1999 at 11 o'clock.

Dorothy Gallik Masulli

Dorothy Gallik Masulli, age 73, of Trumbull, a homemaker, died on Tuesday, October 26, 1999 at her residence.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Miller Gallik. Mrs. Masulli was a Trumbull resident for over 46 years.

She was predeceased by a brother, John Gallik and a sister, Rita Just.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Ignatius Masulli; a son, Mark Masulli and his wife, Palasa of Derby; a daughter, Ann Marie DiIorio and her husband, Vincenzo of Bethel; two brothers, Edward and Robert Gallik, both of California; two sisters, Catherine Brown of Alabama and Veronica Wilkshire of Ohio; three grandchildren, Claudio, Elizabeth and Gabrielle; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, October 29, 1999 at 9 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull, for a Mass of Christian Burial.

Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the CT Hospice, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT 06405.

Friends may call Thursday, 4 to 8 p.m.

John A. Bertschy

John A. Bertschy of North Chatham, Mass., died suddenly Tuesday at his St. Augustine, Florida home. He was 74.

Born in Patterson, N.J., Mr. Bertschy was raised and educated in Hawthorne, N.J. He entered the Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre. He returned to Hawthorne after the war, married in 1948 and earned a degree at the Newark School of Engineering.

Mr. Bertschy was an engineer with IBM. During the course of his career he had worked in Minnesota, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., White Plains, N.Y. and Connecticut. He had lived many years in Woodstock, N.Y. and was residing in Brookfield upon his retirement. For the past ten years, he and his wife had split their time between St. Augustine, Fla. and North Chatham, Mass., where they had maintained a home for more than thirty years.

Mr. Bertschy had been involved with the American School for the Deaf while living in Connecticut and had attended St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Chatham, Mass. A doting husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, music, oceanography, astronomy and working with computers.

He is survived by his wife, Betty J. (Eakin) Bertschy; his son, John R. Bertschy of San Jose, Calif.; his daughters, An Marshall of North Chatham, Mass., Kit Zayas of Orlando, Fla. and Sandra Ferrari of Canton; his brother, Howard Bertschy of Maplewood, N.J. and six grandchildren.

His funeral will be held Friday in Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church, Main Street, Chatham, Mass., at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in People's Cemetery, Chatham, Mass. Visiting hours will be Thursday, 4 to 7 p.m. in the Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham, Mass.

Donations may be made in his memory to the American School of the Deaf, 139 North Main Street, West Hartford, CT 06107.

Victoria A Muhlfeld

Victoria A. Muhlfeld, 53, of Waterbury, died Monday, October 25, 1999 in New Haven. She was the wife of Eugene Muhlfeld.

Born in Mahopac, N.Y. September 24, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Helen (Dingee) Parks.

Mrs. Muhlfeld was a graduate of Brewster High School. She was employed as a Bus Driver with Laidlaw of Woodbury for 2 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Mark Vittorini of Southbury; a daughter, Christine Vittorini of Southbury; two stepchildren, William Muhlfeld of Florida and Joseph Muhlfeld of Missouri; a brother, Elmer Sears of Carmel, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Jessica and Jennifer Bush of Southbury and Jack Vittorini of Woodbury; and two step grandchildren, Cody Muhlfeld of Florida and Jewel Muhlfeld of Missouri.

Friends may call on Thursday, October 28, 1999 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Terrace, Brewster, N.Y.

A Memorial Service will take place Thursday evening at 8 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth White officiating.

Cremation will be at the convenience of the family.

Wilfred R. Begnoche

Wilfred R. Begnoche, age 80, of 34 Old State Road, New Milford, husband of Margaret Raino Begnoche, died on Tuesday at New Milford Hospital.

Mr. Begnoche was born in Swanton, Vt. Oct. 26, 1999, a son of the late Joseph and Azelia Gregoire Begnoche.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in to US Army in the Pacific theatre. He had worked for Sega Sand and Gravel in New Milford for 44 years.

He had lived in New Milford for the past 60 years. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church and was a member of Andrew B. Mygatt Post 1672 VFW of New Milford.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard M. Begnoche of New Milford; a daughter, Sharon A. Ross of Mission Viejo, Calif.; two sisters, Flora Duval of Crown Point, N.Y. and Anita Moneghan of New Holland, Pa.; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral on Monday in St. Francis Xavier Church at 11 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment in St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford.

Friends may call on Monday after 9:30 a.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 40 North Street, Danbury 06810.

Eunice C. Forno Tobin

Eunice C. Forno Tobin, age 74, of Trumbull, died Oct. 26, 1999 in her home.

Mrs. Tobin was born in Trumbull and was a life long resident. She was retired cafeteria worker at St. Joseph's High School and the Trumbull School System.

She was the widow of Jack B. Tobin.

Survivors include two sons, John R. and his wife, MaryBeth Tobin of Bridgeport and Michael and his wife, Lisa Tobin of Sandy Hook; three daughters, Eileen Bevans of Trumbull, Patricia and her husband, Romeo Boucher of West Haven and Susan and her husband, Gale Soule of Trumbull; one brother, Albert Forno of Trumbull; one sister, Barbara Kolh of Newtown; 10 grandchildren, Michael Bevans, John Tobin II, Brian Tobin, Michael Tobin Jr., Michele Tomasi, David Boucher, Laura Boucher, Jason Soule, Christopher Soule and Scott Soule; one great grandchild, Danielle Tomasi and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Rose Santurbano and her brother, Francis "Buddy" Forno.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:15 a.m. in the Cyril F. Mullins Trumbull Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. and at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call on Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m.

J. Frank Miles

J. Frank Miles, age 71, husband of Barbara (Nichols) Miles of 16 Elm Drive, Newtown, died Monday, October 25, 1999 in the Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Miles was born in Stamford January 28, 1928, a son of the late John and Anna (Slater) Miles. He was a resident of Newtown since 1942 and was a graduate of Newtown High School. He served in the US Army during World War II. Following the War, he attended Bridgeport University and earned BS in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Miles was a mechanical engineer for what is now the Eaton Corporation in Bethel from 1951 to 1989.

Mr. Miles was a member and former Secretary of the Newtown Rotary Club and was a charter member of the Newtown Tennis Association. He was a longtime member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. Mr. Miles served many years on the Newtown Board of Tax Review.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 sons, Robert of Simsbury, and Paul and John, both of Sandy Hook; 3 daughters, Jerilyn Miles of Seattle, Wash., Nancy Mesinger of Newtown and JoAnn Colucci of Southbury and 14 grandchildren.

Private Funeral Services will take place at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made to the Newtown Rotary Foundation, PO Box 263, Newtown, CT 06470. Arrangements by the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown.

Marie T. Kallmann

Marie T. Kallmann, 86, sister of Mrs. Anne T. Syrotynsky of Danbury, died on Monday morning, October 25, 1999 at the Danbury Hospital. She was the widow of Edward O. Kallmann.

Mrs. Kallmann was born in New York, New York, July 5, 1913, a daughter of the late Theodore and Seraphina (Povrosnyk) Toloch. She attended Brooklyn schools and graduated from Brooklyn College.

She was a retired secretary of the Stationery and Office Equipment Board of Trade based in New York.

A resident of Danbury for the past two years coming from Brooklyn to make her home with her sister, she was a member of Saint George Ukrainian Catholic Church of New York.

In addition to her sister, she is survived by a stepdaughter, Eleanor Lyness of Baldwinsville, New York, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a cousin and several nieces and nephews.

The Divine Funeral Liturgy will take place on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 13 Pembroke Road, Danbury, with the Rev. Michael G. Popson, officiating.

Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, New York on Thursday at 11 a.m.

Friends will be received in St. Nicholas Church on Wednesday after 6:30 p.m.

Memorials in Mrs. Kallmann's memory may be made to St. Nicholas Church.

The Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Z. Landry

Helen (Zinick) Stebbins Landry, 76, died Oct. 24 in Pittsburg, N.H.

She was born Oct. 19, 1923, in New Preston, the daughter of the late David and Fanny (Solomon) Zinick.

She lived her entire life in New Preston and New Milford before moving to New Hampshire three years ago. She grew up in New Preston working at her family's business, the first Gulf gas station in the area. It was also a small grocery store and gathering spot. During the war she worked at the Warren MacArthur Co. in Bantam.

Ms. Landry was a graduate of Washington High School and worked for many years as a secretary and bookkeeper. She was also a cook, bartender and waitress for several area restaurants. She enjoyed stock car racing and was a family member of the original Southern New York Racing Association. She also enjoyed cooking for family and friends. She was a member of the New Milford Congregational Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.

Ms. Landry is survived by a son, William of Pittsburgh, N.H., with whom she made her home; a daughter, Cynthia Brissett of Washington Depot; a brother, Calvin (Kelly) Zinick of Marbledale; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Skip Stebbins in 1968.

A memorial service will be held in New Milford, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. at the Congregational Church, Main Street. A gathering of family and friends in the Taylor Room of the church will follow.
