Howard R. Rhodes Sr.

Howard R. Rhodes Sr., 56, of 27 Gregory St., Danbury, husband of Florence E. (Rotella) Rhodes, died Thursday, October 14, 1999, at his home.

Born in Newark, N.J., August 31, 1943, he was a son of the late Howard and Margaret (Griener) Rhodes.

He was a graduate of Rahway High School, Rahway, N.J., and he attended the University of Bridgeport.

Mr. Rhodes had been employed in the garment industry in New York City and then went to work as a Letter Carrier for the Danbury branch of the U.S. Post Office, where he served for fifteen years.

A resident of Danbury since 1964, he was youth hockey coach for the Berkshire Youth Hockey Team for many years, founder of Last Race Greyhounds, and a participant in the 1996 Olympic Torch Run through Connecticut.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Howard R. Rhodes Jr. of South Salem, N.Y., and Robert A. Rhodes of Bridgeport; a sister, Judith Rhodes of Roselle, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Danbury, on Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private.

Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Frank A. Dzubak

Frank A. Dzubak died Oct. 14, 1999, at his home at the age of 73. He was the husband of Millie Holick Dzubak and lived at 285A Kent Road, Kent, CT.

Mr. Dzubak was born in Danbury, son of the late Alexander and Elizabeth Borodach Dzubak and received his education in Danbury schools. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served in Hawaii.

Mr. Dzubak was a self-employed Heating and Cooling Contractor and operated the Aaon Sheet Metal Company for 40 years and retired in 1991. He was a member of the Danbury Exchange Club.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Wayne M. Dzubak of Boise, Idaho, Jake A. Dzubak of New Milford, CT, and Frank D. Dzubak of Saida, Colorado; his daughter, Patricia L. Cervera of North Stonington, CT; 9 grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Dzubak of North Carolina and John Dzubak of Danbury; six sisters, Ethel Wilson of Brookfield, Irene Zurinskas, Florence Maroto and Dorothy Reed, all of Danbury, Margaret Wichman of Newtown and Elizabeth Clark of New Fairfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, on Tuesday, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. R.W. Schell, Head Master of Kent School, officiating. Cremation will follow at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897-2523 in his memory.

Ernestine Hartlieb

Ernestine Hartlieb of New Fairfield died Friday at Mediplex of Wethersfield. She was the wife of the late Erich Hartlieb.

She was born in Mount Vernon, New York, July 18, 1918, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Iarusso.

Mrs. Hartlieb worked as a legal secretary for many years. After their retirement, Mrs. Hartlieb and her husband were active volunteers in the Danbury area. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and was involved in the senior citizens center.

She is survived by 3 sons, John and his wife Maria of North Caroline, George and his wife Barbara of San Francisco and Brian Hartlieb of Hartford; 2 brothers, Charles Iarusso and Anthony Iarusso and his wife Adele, all of Mount Vernon, N.Y.: 2 sisters, Flora Metz and her husband George of Mount Vernon, and Lucy Manfredonia and her husband Rudy of Boynton Beach, Florida, and 2 grandchildren, Jason of New Milford and Jennifer of North Carolina.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, Connecticut Affiliate Inc., 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Calling hours: Monday from 11 a.m. to noon at the New Fairfield Funeral Home, Route 37 at Cottontail Road, New Fairfield, CT.

Services: Monday at 12:30 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 2 Colonial Road, New Fairfield. Burial will be in Mountainview Cemetery, New Fairfield.

Alice E. Guastello
Alice E. Guastello, age 86, of Park Lane Road East in New Milford, Conn. died at home with her family on Tuesday, October 12, 1999. She was the wife of the late Frank A. Guastello. Mrs. Guastello was born on August 17, 1913 in Bronx, N.Y., a daughter of the late DeWitt and Marion Lepp Brown. She lived most of her life in New York City before moving to New Milford in 1987 to live with her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Her married life was devoted to her home and family. Mrs. Guastello is survived by a son, James F. Guastello of New Milford, Conn.; two daughters, Marion Kane of Woodside, N.Y. and Frances Loftus of Boston, Mass.; two brothers, Thomas Brown of Woodcliff, N.J. and Raymond Brown of Danielson, Conn.; and nine grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, 10 a.m., in St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, New Milford. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Road, New Milford, Conn. Janet H. Knapp
Janet H. Knapp, age 67, of Danbury, died on Tuesday at Danbury Hospital. Ms. Knapp was born on Long Island, NY, March 22, 1932, a daughter of the late Donald A. and Hazel (Peters) Richards. She moved to the Norwalk area with her family as a young girl, and had been a resident of Danbury since 1958. She was the former proprietor of the Pembroke Day Nursery for 18 years, and later was a manager for McDonalds Restaurant, North Street, Danbury, until her retirement in 1995. Enjoying wildlife and gardening as a hobby, Ms. Knapp was also employed part time at Halas Farm Market in Danbury for the last four years. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia "Missy" Cote', and Robin L. Lee, both of Danbury, and four grandsons. Ms. Knapp was predeceased by her son, Mark Knapp. Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 40 North St., Danbury, CT 06810. The Hull Funeral Home, Sixty Division Street, Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.

Lenore M. Dillon
Lenore M. (Lawlor) Dillon, 82, of Danbury, died Thursday at her home at 7 Locust Avenue. She was the wife of the late Robert W. Dillon. She was born in Danbury on Sept. 27, 1917, a daughter of John & Lenore (Stearn) Lawlor. She was born, lived, and died at her home on Locust Avenue. Mrs. Dillon was a graduate of Danbury High School and a 1938 graduate of the Danbury Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a private duty registered nurse until the time of her retirement. Mrs. Dillon was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Church in Danbury; a Senior Volunteer for the Western CT Chapter of the American Red Cross; a member of the Danbury Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association; and a member of The Thursday Bridge Club. She is survived by two sons, William M. Dillon of Kent and Thomas J. Dillon of New York City; a daughter, Linda (Dillon) Iribarren of Danbury and Newport, R.I.; and a son-in-law, Jaime Iribarren of Danbury and Newport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 8:45 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends will be received Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.

Anthony A. Suttile

Anthony A. (Kingfish) Suttile, 83, of Stamford, Conn. died on Wednesday, October 13, 1999 at St. Camillus Health Center due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was the husband of the late Josephine M. Ambrosio Suttile.

He was born in Stamford, Conn. on October 7, 1916, the son of the late Joseph and Frances Dorrico Suttile. He resided in Stamford all his life.

Survivors include a daughter, Jo-Ann Smith Dempsky of Newtown, Conn.; a son, Anthony A. Suttile Jr. of Oshkosh, Wis.; four sisters, Rose Journalist, Frances Suttile, Josephine Suttile and Helen Suttile, all of Stamford, Conn.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Smith Connelly of Milford, Conn., William Smith of Newtown, Conn. and Christopher Suttile and Michelle Suttile, both of Cos Cob, Conn. He was predeceased by a sister, Louise Turner, and a brother, Salvatore Suttile.

A funeral procession will leave on Saturday, 9:20 a.m., from the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, Conn. to St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.

Family will receive friends on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial donations be made to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 607 Main Ave., Norwalk, CT 06851.

Gerald A. Gillotti

Gerald A. Gillotti, of Ives Manor in Danbury, Conn., died on October 13, 1999 at the age of 71.

Mr. Gillotti was born in Danbury, Conn. on August 26, 1928, son of the late Gerald A. and Catherine Ford Gillotti. He received his education in Danbury schools.

Mr. Gillotti was an Army veteran of Korea, serving from September 1950 until April 1952. He was a lineman with Union Local No. 565, retiring after 30 years at the age of 65. He attended St. Joseph Church in Danbury.

Mr. Gillotti is survived by his sons, Gerald A. and Thomas J., both of New York City; his daughters, Veronica Gillotti of New York City and Casey Gillotti of Ashburn, Va.; his grandson, Casey T. Gillotti; his brother, Bernard "Bud" Gillotti, and his sisters, Geraldine A. Carraluzzi and Arlene V. Schimanskey, all of Danbury; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, 9:50 a.m., at St. Joseph Church in Danbury. Burial will be St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, Conn.

Contributions may be made to the Lung Association of Connecticut, 45 Ash St. E., Hartford, CT 06108-3272 in Mr. Gillotti's memory.

Albert Gerlach Jr.

Albert Gerlach Jr., 78, of 1107 Greenview Court NE, Palm Bay, Fla., formerly of New Milford, died Oct. 6 at Holmes Regional Hospital, Melbourne, Fla., after a long battle with cancer.

He was the husband of Violet (Templeman) Gerlach.

Mr. Gerlach was born Dec. 20, 1920, in Danbury, son of the late Albert and Marie Gerlach. he lived most of his life in New Milford. He was a 1939 graduate of New Milford High School.

Before his retirement, he worked at Dresser Industries as a quality control electronics inspector. After his retirement, he was an active volunteer driver for Meals-on-Wheels, the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society.

Mr. and Mrs. Gerlach celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in August.

Besides his wife, Mr. Gerlach is survived by two daughters, Jean-Marie Flokos of South Kent and Katharine A. Beers of New Milford; three grandchildren, Katharine Gereg of Condon, Mont., Richard J. Flokos Jr. of Harvard, Mass., and Debbie-Jean Kaprielian of Bridgewater; and seven great-grandchildren.

The Palm Bay Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Alice E. Guastello

Alice E. Guastello, age 86, of Park Lane Road East in New Milford, Conn. died at home with her family on Tuesday, October 12, 1999. She was the wife of the late Frank A. Guastello.

Elizabeth Jurik

Elizabeth Jurik, 95, of Woods Road in Sherman, Conn. died on Tuesday, October 12, 1999 at Danbury Hospital. Mrs. Jurik was the wife of the late Eino Jurik.

She was born in New York City on July 14, 1904, a daughter of Michael and Frances Pysklwa. Mrs. Jurik lived in Lake Carmel, N.Y. before moving to Sherman, Conn., where she made her home for the past 20 years.

She worked for the Empire State Building for many years. Mrs. Jurik was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Sherman and the senior citizens center.

She is survived by her daughter, Frances Fisher of Sherman, Conn.; her son, Eino Jurik of South Salem, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Tamera and Robin Fisher and Eric Jurik. She was predeceased by a son, John Jurik.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, 10 a.m., at Holy Trinity Church in Sherman, Conn. Burial will be in St. Lawrence O'Toole Cemetery, Brewster, N.Y.

Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the New Fairfield Funeral Home, Route 37 at Cottontail Road, New Fairfield, Conn.

Harris B. Towne Sr.

Harris Baker Towne Sr., 91, husband of the late Maylaw Albertson Towne, of 313 Washington Ave. in West Haven, Conn., died on Oct. 13, 1999 in New Haven.

Mr. Towne was a retired mechanic for International Harvester and a retired toll collector for the State of Connecticut.

Mr. Towne was the father of Harris B. Towne Jr. of Sandy Hook, Conn. and Carol Towne Fullerton of West Haven, Conn. He was grandfather to Denise Gabanelli, Carol Pellico, Charles Fullerton III, Cristen Fullerton, Tiffany Beach, Harris B. Towne III and Christopher Towne, and great-grandfather of seven.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm St., West Haven, Conn. A Jehovah's Witnesses service will take place at 7:30 p.m.

Michael McGarry O'Neill

Michael McGarry O'Neill, age 22, of 34 Summitt Ave., Albany, N.Y. and formerly of Catskill, N.Y., died suddenly Saturday, October 9, 1999 in Albany, N.Y.

He was born December 13, 1976 in Catskill, N.Y. the son of Mary Ann McGarry O'Neill Burke of Cairo, N.Y. and Michael J. O'Neill of Albany, N.Y.

Michael attended schools in Catskill, N.Y. and the Junior College of Albany, N.Y. He was a talented dancer, skydiver, skier, skater, golfer and sports enthusiast.

Mr. O'Neill is also survived by two sisters, Maura Ann O'Neill of Del Ray Beach, Fla. and Kathleen Ann O'Neill of Schenectady, N.Y.; an uncle, Kenneth J. O'Neill and cousin, Charles D. O'Neill, both of Danbury, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from Traver and McCurie Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, N.Y., followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bridget's Church in Leeds, N.Y. Father John J. Murphy, Pastor, will officiate.

Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Catskill, N.Y.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.
