Ferdinand Mancuso
Ferdinand "Fred" Mancuso, 89, of Millbrook, N.Y., and previously of Brewster, N.Y., died October 1, 1999, in Sharon, Conn. His late wife, Jean Prial Mancuso, died on May 11, 1982.
Born in New York, N.Y., he was a son of Anthony and Lucy Cefola Mancuso. He graduated from Albert Einstein High School, Fordham University and Fordham's Law School.
Mr. Mancuso served in World War II with the U.S. Army.
He was a past member of St. Vincent DePaul in Brewster, a member and past grand knight of Knights of Columbus, and a member of Brewster Lions Club, Southeast Senior Citizens, and the Southeast Democratic Party. He served on the Southeast Zoning and Planning Boards.
Mr. Mancuso was a member of St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Brewster, N.Y., the Globe Trotters of St. Lawrence O'Toole and the St. Lawrence O'Toole Council.
He was a self-employed lawyer for 24 years, from 1971 to 1995. Prior to that, for 33 years, he worked for, and retired from the City of New York Bureau of Budget.
Surviving are a son, Anthony Mancuso of Berkeley, Calif.; two daughters, Kathleen Regan of Hingham, Mass., and Patricia Federman of Narberth, Pa.; two sisters, Molly Palumbo of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and Adele Perrotta of the Bronx, N.Y.; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marie Romaniello and Anna Zecca.
Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Brewster, N.Y. Burial will be in the St. Lawrence O'Toole Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Terrace, Brewster, N.Y.
Barbara L. Schmidt
Barbara L. Schmidt, 72, of Harbor Ridge Road, Danbury, died Thursday at her home. She was born in Danbury, Aug. 10, 1927, a daughter of the late Henry and Ella Dobos Schmidt, and was a lifelong Danbury resident. She attended Danbury schools and was a 1945 graduate of Danbury High School. Miss Schmidt was a bank teller at the Savings Bank of Danbury retiring in 1989. She had previously worked as a teller at the Putnam Savings Bank. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church. Surviving are a brother, Ronald H. Schmidt of Danbury; a sister, Jonice Fitzgerald of Manchester, CT; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury. Gaston G. Beliveau
Gaston G. Beliveau, 53, husband of Louise (Sirois) Beliveau of 1 Purcell Drive, Danbury, died at the Danbury Hospital on Thursday morning. He was born in Canada, Sept. 25, 1946, son of Therese D'Hostie Beliveau of Canada and the late Antonio Beliveau. Mr. Beliveau came to the Danbury area in 1965 and had been a resident here since that time. He had worked as a self employed sheet rock installer. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Sonya Beliveau of Danbury; a son, Carl Beliveau of Boca Raton, FL; four sisters and eight brothers, who reside in Canada, Connecticut and Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999 at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel Church, Stratford. Edward J. Wencek
Edward J. Wencek, age 74, of Newtown, died Wednesday at home after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Marion Daniel Wencek. Mr. Wencek attended Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, NJ, before enlisting in the Army during World War II. He received the Purple Heart and was discharged following the war. He returned to complete his education at St. John's University and St. Peter's College in NY. In his early career, he was a radio announcer and founded and managed a talent agency before beginning employment with American Electric Power. He later worked for and retired from the American Standard Corporation, where he was employed in Stock Services, and was the Corporate Historian. He was active in the Newtown Republican Party, had been an officer of the American Records Management Association and for many years was active as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. He delighted in his portrayal of Father Christmas each year. Mr. Wencek is survived by two sons, Gregory Wencek and his wife Stacey of Danbury, CT, and Martin Wencek and his wife Clare of South Kingston, RI; a sister, Diane Wencek Pratomo and her husband Mas Pratomo of Queens, NY; four grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint Mary's Church Parish, 237 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, CT 06801; or the Bethel VNA, One School St., Bethel, CT 06801. The funeral will be conducted from the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Bethel, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bethel. Laurence J. Dunn
Laurence J. Dunn, 88, of Brewster, N.Y., died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at his home. He was the husband of the late Florence (McAuliffe) Dunn. Mr. Dunn was born May 20, 1911, in Yonkers, N.Y., a son of the late Laurence J. and Frances Kinnally Dunn. He attended schools in Yonkers and graduated from the Stevens Institute of Technology in Yonkers. He had lived in Brewster for the past 57 years and prior to that had lived in Nyack, NY and Yonkers. He was employed as an executive in the personnel and safety division of the New York Telephone Co. and retired in 1975 after 47 years. Mr. and Mrs. Dunn were married Aug. 29, 1936, at Sacred Heart Church in Mt. Vernon, NY. Mr. Dunn was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the St. Lawrence Council Knights of Columbus; and a former member of the Brewster Lions Club. He was a communicant of St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Brewster, NY. He is survived by four daughters, Arlene Futch of Bowie, MD, Claire Oue of Kailua Kona, HI, Carol Pane of Bethlehem, CT, and Frances DeVall of Wappingers Falls, NY; a sister, Dorothy Dunn of Yonkers, NY; two brothers, Thomas Dunn of Marietta, GA, and Edward Dunn of Wheaton, IL; 14 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Brewster. Gloria Celeste Dent
Gloria Celeste Dent, lovingly known as Nanny, died Tuesday, Sept. 28th in Atlanta, GA, after a long illness. She was 73 years old and the wife of Bill Dent. Gloria was a Ridgefield resident for over 25 years, active in the community and loved by all. She and her husband have lived in Spring Hill, FL, for the past 7 years. She worked for many years at the Ridgefield Police Department and as a teacher's aide at Veteran's Park Elementary School. All of her friends and family will remember her sweet smile and easy laugh. We're all glad she found her way home. Besides her husband of 51 years, survivors include three sons, Bill Dent and his wife, Karen, of Atlanta, Tom Dent and his wife, Carolyn, of St. Simons Island, GA, and Tim Dent and his wife, Mary, of Ridgefield. Nanny is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Sean Dent, Lindsay Dent, Jenni Dent and Ryan Dent. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield. Carl Edwin "Luxcie" Yaunsem
Carl Edwin "Luxcie" Yaunsem, 85, of 8 Cook Street, Washington Depot, husband of the late Edna May Burns Yaunsem, died Monday at his home.
Mr. Yaunsem was born in Washington January 27, 1914, a son of the late William and Rosalie (Schmidt) Yaunsem. He was born and lived his entire life in Washington Depot.
He was a graduate of the former Washington High School and had been employed for some 40 years with the Highway Department of the Town of Washington before his retirement. He had also been a caretaker and a gardener at several local estates, especially on the Roxbury Road where he was proud of his flower displays.
In his early years he was a fly and ice fisherman and trapper. He had also been an avid stock car racing fan. In the early 1960's he attended races at 27 different tracks one summer, taking along young people who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend. Also, he was a supporter of Shepaug Valley High School sports.
He is survived by a son, David and his wife, Tina; a daughter, Dorothy and her husband, Robert Anderson; his companion of 30 years, Nettie Robinson of Tillson, N.Y.; also, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Yaunsem.
Funeral services on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford. Interment in the Washington Green Cemetery, Washington.

Jennie Novella
Jennie Novella, 92, wife of the late Michael J. Novella, of Meadowbrook Road, Danbury, died at the Glen Hill Convalescent Home on Sunday evening.
She was born in Italy, August 20, 1907, daughter of the late Joseph and Antoinette (Camarada) Petrizzi. She came to the United States as a child and lived in the Hartford area until her marriage, when she moved to Danbury. She had been a member of St. Gregory the Great Church and was a retired employee of the American Cyanamid Company and had performed volunteer work at the Dorothy Day Hospitality House.
Mrs. Novella is survived by three sons, Russell M. and John M. of Danbury and Joseph A. of New Fairfield; two daughters, Anna Galla and Mary Russo, both of Danbury; a sister, Frances Dameron of Madison; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted from the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Wednesday morning at 9:15 and to St. Gregory the Great Church at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Anita (Langjahr) Lawson
Anita (Langjahr) Lawson of Heritage Village, Southbury, widow of Ronald L. Lawson, died Monday morning at Waterbury Hospital. She was 72 years old.
Mrs. Lawson was born in Queens, N.Y. on August 31, 1927, daughter of the late Frederick and Anna Langjahr. She attended schools in New York and was a long time resident of Florida before moving to Southbury.
She is survived by Lori Lawson and Michelle Chabot of Beacon Falls and Pat Lavelle of Glendale, N.Y. She also leaves two grandsons, Matthew and Brian Lavelle of Glendale, N.Y.
Burial will be Wednesday at Maple Grove Cemetery in Queens, N.Y. Friends may call at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main Street North, Rt. 6/67, Southbury Tuesday afternoon and evening from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Veronica (O'Donnell) Wyllie
Veronica (O'Donnell) Wyllie, 74, of 73 Sentry Hill Road, Roxbury, died Monday at New Milford Hospital. She was the wife of the late Charles W. Wyllie.
Mrs. Wyllie was born in Bridgeport February 14, 1924 a daughter of John and Mary Jane (Denehey) O'Donnell. She moved to Roxbury from Fairfield in 1984.
She is survived by two sons, Charles W. Wyllie Jr. of Roxbury and Timothy G. Wyllie of Oxford; a daughter, Susan J. Smith of Washington; a sister, Mary Jane Kiley of Trumbull; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford. Interment in Center Cemetery, Roxbury.

Gary S. Bertalovitz
Gary S. Bertalovitz, 60, husband of Helen (Chelednik) Bertalovitz of Ridgefield, died Sunday morning at the West Haven Veteran's Hospital.
He was born in Carmel, N.Y., on March 4, 1939, a son of Lillian (Russell) Bertalovitz of Danbury and the late Carl J. Bertalovitz. He moved to Danbury as a child and was a 1956 graduate of Henry Abbott Technical School.
Mr. Bertalo-vitz had been a Ridgefield resident for 32 years and had owned and operated Gary Electric Co., Inc., an electrical contracting company.
He served with the U.S. Army Reserves during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Brewster, N.Y. He was also a member and past president of the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Gary J. Bertalovitz of New York City; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and George E. Pommer of Bethel; a brother, Reverend Dale Bertalovitz of Danbury; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Carl G. Bertalovitz, on Nov. 12, 1999.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Alice Gates Marsan
Alice Gates Marsan, 90, formerly of Ward Street, Norwalk, died Saturday at The Kent, specialty care facility, in Kent. She was the wife of the late Gerard Marsan.
She was born in Norwalk, Sept. 7, 1909, a daughter of the late Fernando and Lottie Baumiller Gates.
Mrs. Marsan had been a Norwalk resident for most of her life.
She is survived by three sons, Thomas R. Marsan of New Milford, Benjamin D. Marsan of Port Charlotte, FL, and Edward J. Marsan of Bridgeport; a daughter, Lorraine M. Clark of Bethel; a sister, Nellie Kalnasky of Norwalk; 11 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will take place Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery, Gaylordsville. Friends may call Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Bessie Marie Hunt
Bessie Marie Hunt, age 89, of Trumbull, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at St. Vincent's Medical Center, of complications resulting from a fall. She was the wife of the late John J. Hunt, who died May 2, 1999.
She was born in Bridgeport, a daughter of Bessie O'Connor Reilly and William Reilly.
Mrs. Hunt was the owner of the Bessie Marie Reilly School of Dance, at Fairfield Avenue and Broad Street in Bridgeport, for 35 years, teaching ballet, tap, acrobatic and toe dancing to children ages 3 to 16. She was a graduate of the Bestoff-Serova Russian School of Ballet and Dazian's School of Costume Design.
She was a member of the Dance Masters of America and Dance Teachers Club of Connecticut and taught at many Dance Masters Clubs in the East.
As a member of the Ridgewood Country Club, Danbury, for over 46 years, she served as Chairlady of the Ladies Golf Association and the Ridgewood Bridge Association.
Mrs. Hunt was a communicant of St. Theresa Parish, Trumbull.
She is survived by a cousin, Mildred Sayball of Waterbury; two brothers-in-law, Francis "Frank" Hunt and his wife Ruth of Brewster, N.Y., and Andrew J. Hunt and his wife Anna of Danbury; a sister-in-law, Kathryn S. Hunt of Brewster, N.Y.; and a dear friend, Nancy Robertson of Bridgeport. She was predeceased by a sister, Helen B. Reilly in 1967.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Theresa Church, Trumbull. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street & Gorham Place, Trumbull.
Frances Capozziello
Frances Theresa Capozziello, age 70, beloved wife of the late John Capozziello, died Nov. 28, 1999, at her home in Sandy Hook following a brief illness.
She was born in Throop, PA, on Jan. 30, 1929, a daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth Rosen.
Mrs. Capozziello was a homemaker and a resident of Sandy Hook for 32 years. She retired from the Union Camp Container Co. of Newtown after 16 years of employment as a machinist.
She is survived by her devoted children: five sons, Richard Capozziello and his wife Rose of Monroe, John Capozziello Jr. of Newtown, Corrie Capozziello of VA, Gary Capozziello and his wife Cathy, and Kim Capozziello and his wife Patricia, of Newtown; three daughters, Valerie Thaler of Ridgefield, Deborah Burkey and her husband Charles of Danbury, and Francine DiMone and her husband John of Danbury; a sister, Pearl Mastriano of East Haven; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Walsh and Dorothy Belknape.
Funeral services will take place Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Spadaccino Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Rt. 111, Monroe, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, Newtown. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Newtown, at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Stella V. Palmer
Stella V. Palmer, 74, of Danbury, wife of the late Randolph Palmer, died Saturday at Danbury Hospital.
She was born in Danbury on Jan. 9, 1925, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Miss. She was a graduate of Danbury High School and had been a lifelong Danbury resident.
Mrs. Palmer is survived by four daughters, Barbara, Sandra and Deborah, all of Danbury, and Linda of New Milford; three sons, Ward of Danbury, Wayne of Sherman, and Thomas of Merrimack, N.H.; four grandchildren, David, Jason, Laurie and Matthew of New Hampshire; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral and burial services will be private.
The Green Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
