Margaret Pattacini
Margaret Gandiana Pattacini, age 87, of Wooster Manor, Danbury, Conn., formerly of the Stamford/Norwalk area, died Wednesday at Bethel Health Care, Bethel, Conn. She was the widow of Carlo B. Pattacini. Mrs. Pattacini was born in Stamford, Conn., August 9, 1911, a daughter of Dominick and Anunziata Palmieri Gandiana. She lived in the Stamford and Norwalk area before moving to Danbury eight years ago. She worked as an assembler at Sperry Corp. and Burndy Corp. in Norwalk before her retirement. After retiring she enjoyed her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her weekly attendance at Bingo games. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Danbury. Mrs. Pattacini is survived by three sons and their wives, Silvio and Mary Pattacini of Danbury, Robert R. and Theresa Pattacini of South Norwalk, Conn., Anthony W. and Penny Pattacini of Fairfield, Conn.; a daughter and her husband Carmella "Cookie" and Donald Metz of Danbury; four grandchildren Donald Metz and his wife Cynthia, Michele Pangle and her husband Michael, Christopher Pattacini and his wife Melissa and Karen Skudlarek and her husband John; and six great-grandchildren Alexander, Joshua, Madalena Rose, Emily, Isabella and Mathew. She was predeceased by three sisters, Rose Haviland, Josephine Cantillo and Grace Mazza, as well as two brothers Frank and Patsy Gandiana. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church, 164 Deer Hill Ave., Danbury, CT 06810. The funeral will be held at the First Congregational Church, Danbury, Friday at 11 a.m. Burial in St. John's Cemetery, Darien will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division St., Danbury, Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Victoria T. Nadolny

Victoria T. (Siok) Nadolny, 83, of 107 Rockwell Road in Bethel, wife of the late Frank L. Nadolny, died Thursday, April 29, 1999 at her home.

She was born in New Britain, Conn. on December 23, 1915, daughter of Joseph and Anna (Kulas) Siok, and attended New Britain schools.

Mrs. Nadolny was a homemaker and lived in Merrick, N.Y., before moving to Bethel in 1978. She was a member of St. Mary Church in Bethel.

She is survived by a son, Frank J. Nadolny of Woodbury; two daughters, Frances Masterson of Bethel and Stella Konopasek of Dix Hills, N.Y.; a brother, Joseph Siok of Enfield, Conn.; a sister, Pauline Zawisza of Acworth, Ga. and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the St. Joseph Cemetery Chapel in Bristol, Conn. on Monday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Lucy B. Roff

Lucy B. Roff, 97, a retired dietary aide for Fairfield Hills State Hospital in Newtown, and the widow of George M. Roff Jr., died Tuesday, April 27, 1999 at Danbury Hospital. She had made her home at 16 Town Hill Avenue in Danbury for most of her life.

Mrs. Roff was born in Kent, Conn., on November 7, 1901, a daughter of Cassius N. and Katie Belle Johnson Carter, and attended Kent public schools. In 1919, she moved to Danbury to attend the former Crandall's Business Institute. Upon graduation, she began her career with the former F.H. Lee Hat Co., and was a machine operator for over 33 years. She later associated with the dietary department at Fairfield Hills, retiring in 1970.

Mrs. Roff had been a member of St. James' Episcopal Church in Danbury and Chapter 1067 of the AARP in Danbury. She had belonged to the Degree of Pocohontus, Waneta Council, of Torrington.

She is survived by two nieces, Theodora R. Reaser of Dade City, Fla. and Elaine A. Salem of New Milford, and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday, 10 a.m., at The Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main Street, Danbury.

Mary Sue 'Sudie' Wilkinson

Mary Sue "Sudie" Wilkinson, age 63, of Bridgewater, Conn. died suddenly at Danbury Hospital on Tuesday, March 30, 1999. She was the wife of Loy Wilkinson.

She was born on September 17, 1935 in Charleston, W.Va., a daughter of Richard Ery and Ruth Ralsten Woodrum. An alumna of Morris Harvey College, Charleston, W.Va. with a degree in Dental Technology, Mrs. Wilkinson had been a resident of Bridgewater for 18 years.

She worked for many years as a volunteer in Danbury Hospital, and for the past four years was employed at the Pottery Barn in Danbury Fair mall. Mrs. Wilkinson was a member of the Bridgewater Congregational Church and had served as a deacon. She was an active member of the Bridgewater Republican Party.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Wilkinson is survived by two sons, John Wilkinson of Sherman, Conn. and Andrew Wilkinson of New Milford, Conn.; a daughter, Molly Stratton of Bridgewater, Conn.; a brother, Robert Woodrum of South Charleston, W.Va.; two sisters, Sally Young of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Ruth Thomas of Charleston, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Robert and Mathew Wilkinson and Sarah, JP and David Stratton; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in the Bridgewater Congregational Church, two to three weeks hence. Burial will be in South Cemetery, Bridgewater at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bridgewater Congregational Church, Book of Remembrance, P.O. Box 7, Bridgewater, CT 06752-1610.

Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Road, New Milford.

Mark A. Cano

Mark A. Cano, born in Santa Cruz Barrillas, Guatemala, Central America on August 20, 1958, died March 9, 1999. He was a resident of Danbury, Conn.

He was preceded in death by his parents Juan and Lucia, brother Gaspar and Uncles Matthew and Mateo. Survivors include brother Tony Francisco; adopted parents Candido and Claire Cano; sisters Sarah C. McKinney, Karen C. Gravius and Christina C. Dalton; cousins Daniel, Emilio, Marcario and Diego Nicolas and James Velasco; several nieces and nephews in Connecticut and Ohio; and many family members in Guatemala.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, 11 a.m., at Colonial Hills Baptist Church, 40 Stadley Rough Road, Danbury with Pastor Richard DeMoss officiating. Private interment will take place at the family's convenience.

Harriet Pirk

Harriet Pirk, wife of Herbert Pirk, 24 Pine Mountain Road, Ridgefield, passed away at home Wednesday, March 31.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, February 1, 1919, Mrs. Pirk came to New York City and worked as an advertising copywriter and marketing executive on such accounts as Revlon and Almay cosmetics. In the 1970s, she founded One of a Kind Workshop, specializing in original antique prints and reproductions of 16th- to 19th-century prints including botanical, architectural and zoological drawings and illustrations from children's literature.

She was an accomplished cook, gardener and naturalist.

In addition to her husband of 47 years, Mrs. Pirk leaves a sister, Mrs. Frances Ginsburgh of North Miami, Fla., nieces, nephews, several cousins, and many, many friends.

A memorial service will take place at the Pirk home Sunday, April 4, at noon.

Dorothy Greenwald

Dorothy Greenwald, wife of Charles Greenwald, died at Yale New Haven Hospital on July 31, 1999.

Born December 5, 1932 and educated in the Bronx, Mrs. Greenwald was a Girl Scout Brownie Leader and bowled for many years.

Mrs. Greenwald moved to Danbury in 1964 and was a member of St. Joseph Church and former President and Secretary for the Council of Catholic Women. Mrs. Greenwald worked in the Danbury School System, for Perkin Elmer and Hughes Danbury Optical Systems.

Mrs. Greenwald is survived by two daughters and spouses, Denise and Patrick Gilbane, Caren and Harold Clark, a son Charles and Sandy Greenwald, grandsons Brian and Matthew Gilbane, and granddaughter Kendall Clark.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. A Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, CT on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Marianne Hollerbach Murray

Marianne Hollerbach Murray, 49, of 88 Lillis Road, New Milford, died Saturday, July 31, 1999 after a long illness.

Mrs. Murray was born in Bronx, NY on July 25, 1950. She was the daughter of the late Christine and Nicholas Hollerbach.

In 1990, Marianne Hollerbach married Lucien Murray and moved to New Milford, CT. Previously she resided in Norwalk and Danbury.

Mrs. Murray was dearly loved by her family and many friends. She will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Murray leaves Lucien, her beloved husband, and two daughters, Jessica Rondello and Kimberly Noel Murray of New Milford, Connecticut. She is also survived by two sisters, Diane DeSalvo and Jo-anne Lemilin of New Milford, Connecticut and three brothers, Robert Hollerbach of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Richard Hollerbach of Summerville, South Carolina, and Raymond Hollerbach of Bethel, Connecticut, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be celebrated Wednesday August 4, 1999 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, 68 Danbury Road, New Milford. It will be followed by a burial at the Center Cemetery, New Milford.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford.

Anna Hliva Baur

The death of Anna Hliva Baur, 92, of Prairie Drive, Wilmington, Ohio, formerly of Great Plain Road and 51 Main Street, Danbury, occurred at her home Friday evening. She was the widow of Gerhardt P. Baur.

Born in Danbury April 24, 1907 she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Rajcok Hliva and attended Danbury Schools. She lived in Danbury most of her life and moved to Ohio seven years ago.

She had been employed as a Machine Operator at the Barden Corporation for 30 years retiring at age 65. Prior she had worked at the Risdon Manufacturing Company.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was very active in Church activities in her earlier years.

Surviving are two sons, Gerald A. Baur of New Fairfield and Walter C. Baur of Wilmington, Ohio, three daughters, Ann Marie Granstrom of Danbury, Carolyn Lastiewicz of Chicago, Ill., and Elaine F. Moore of Boerne, Tex., a brother, Samuel Hliva of Myrtle Beach, So. Car. and a sister, Marge Waisenpacker of Flemington, NJ., eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be celebrated at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, Thursday morning at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Allen R. German, Pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating.

Internment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Reverend Monsignor Daniel J. Foley

The Reverend Monsignor Daniel J. Foley, a resident of New Fairfield died August 1, 1999 at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain after a long struggle to recuperate from a heart attack and stroke. He was 85.

Monsignor Foley was born in Manchester, Connecticut, son of Cornelius and Nora (Renn) Foley, and the youngest of seven children, five sisters and one brother. After graduation from Manchester High School, he attended St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, CT from 1932 to 1936 and was assigned to St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland from 1934 to 1936. He was then assigned to the North American College and the Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. He graduated and was ordained March 7, 1940 in Our Lady's Chapel at the North American College in Rome.

Upon return to the United States in the summer of 1940 he was initially assigned as Assistant Pastor in Cromwell, CT and was then transferred to St. Joseph's in Norwalk, CT where he served as the Principal of the St. Joseph's School. In 1947, he was transferred to St. Joseph Church, Danbury, where he served until 1960 as Assistant Pastor and Principal of the school. He held collateral positions as Chaplain at the Federal Correctional Institution and for the police and fire departments in Danbury.

In early 1960, he was assigned to be the founding pastor of the newly formed parish of St. Leo's in Stamford, CT. During the period ending in late 1964 he was responsible for the construction of the church, school, rectory, and the purchase of the property for the Religious Sisters who staffed the school. In late 1964 he was assigned as pastor of St. Mary's in Stamford. He also served as chaplain for the police and fire departments during his tenure in Stamford.

In March of 1969, he was assigned to be Pastor of St. Edward's in New Fairfield, CT where he expanded the facilities by purchasing a rectory, creating a parish center and establishing the subsidiary Holy Trinity Chapel in Sherman, CT. In early 1982 he retired to Florida, however, in 1984 he heard the call to continue his ministry.

He returned to the Diocese of Bridgeport and was assigned as Co-Director of the Pastoral Care Department at Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care in Danbury, CT. He served in that capacity until his recent illness in November 1998.

During his 59 years as an ordained priest, Monsignor Foley served six Popes, as many Bishops, and served thousands of parishioners. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a long time member of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains and a member of the Alumni Association of the North American College-Rome.

He is survived by his 96-year-old sister Mary (Foley) Conroy of East Hartford and several nieces and nephews residing in Connecticut. Besides his mother and father, his brother Connie, sisters Peggy, Anne, Nellie, and Katherine and nieces and nephews, Father Richard Foley, Sister Elizabeth Ann Foley, Daniel Manchuck and John and Peter O'Connor predeceased him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 3 Macbean Drive, New Fairfield, CT., Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Burial will take place in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Manchester, CT.

Friends will be received at the Pope John Paul II Center for Health, 33 Lincoln Avenue, Danbury, Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. and at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, Wednesday from 9 to 10:15 a.m.

Friends are asked to please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pastoral Care Department, Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care, 33 Lincoln Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810, Attn.: Sister Frances Smalkowski, Director.

Mary F. Bonadio

Mrs. Mary F. Bonadio, 93, of First Street Extension, Danbury, died at Ashlar of Newtown, Monday, August 2, 1999. She was the wife of the late Michael Bonadio.

Born in New York, New York, October 18, 1905, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna Kozel Lapcik. She came to Danbury at the age of 3, attended Danbury schools and Danbury High School, and had lived here most of her life. Her life was devoted to her family and home.

She was a member of St. Gregory the Great Church.

Surviving are a son, Richard J. Bonadio of Topsham, Maine, a daughter, Rita M. Blackstone of Danbury with whom she made her home, 10 grandchildren, Rory R. Peterson, Cheryl A. Gallagan, Mary Engel, David Bonadio, Lisa A. Schang, Michael J. Bonadio, Dianne Schwartz, Susan Mastrianni, Melinda Huber and Leanne Bonadio, 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a son, Robert Bonadio.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Church, Thursday morning at 10:00.

Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Living Trust Fund of St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Rd., Danbury, 06811.

Muiriel Davis

Muiriel Davis died Aug. 2, 1999 at the Danbury Hospital at the age of 92. She was a resident of 26 Junction Rd., Brookfield, and the wife of the late Theodore Davis.

Mrs. Davis was born in Warren, Pa. July 23, 1907, daughter of the late Axl and Martha Selin. She received her education in Pa. and graduated from Villa Maria in Erie, Pa. She came to Brookfield in 1948. Mrs. Davis was Librarian at the Brookfield Library from 1964 to 1979.

She also served as Republican Registrar of Voters 1963 to 1976 and was active in the Brookfield Women's Republican Club and also served on the board of directors of the Brookfield Historical Society. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopalian Church in Brookfield.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her son Paul W. Davis of Brookfield. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. George Crocker Rector officiating. Her cremated remains will be intered in the Garden of St. Paul's Church at a private service to be held at the convenience of the family.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the Memorial Fund of St. Paul's Church, Rt. 25, Brookfield, CT 06804.
