Elizabeth "Betty" Webster
Elizabeth "Betty" (O'Connor) Webster, 87, of Newington, Conn. died on Thursday, November 18, 1999 after a short bout with cancer.
Born in Danbury, Conn., she lived there most of her life. She was formerly employed by the Howland's Department Store in Danbury for over 30 years.
After her retirement, she moved to Newington in 1980 and coordinated the bingo activities at the Market Square Apartments where she resided.
Betty volunteered countless hours at the Newington Childrens Hospital Gift Shop and the Cedarcrest Hospital Gift Shop. The newly renovated Cedarcrest Hospital Gift Shop was named "Betty's Place" in her honor.
Betty was an accomplished baker, most noted for "Grandma Betty's Apple Pie." She was a member of St. Mary's Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John R. and Lorraine M. Webster of Newington, Conn.; her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and James O'Hara of Willis, Texas; her four grandchildren, James E. O'Hara III, John M. O'Hara, Erik A. Webster and Amy E. Meschi; and a great-grandson, Joshua James O'Hara.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, 8:15 a.m., from the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave. in Newington, Conn., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 9 a.m., at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be on Monday, 11:30 a.m., in St. Peter Cemetery in Danbury.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Newington Memorial Funeral Home.

Salvatore J. Lauro
Salvatore J. Lauro, age 88, of Redding died on Thursday at Harborside Glen Hill Nursing Center in Danbury. He was the husband of the late Emma Cozart Lauro. Mr. Lauro, who lived with his daughter in Redding since 1998, was a former Waterbury and New Haven resident.
Mr. Lauro was born on January 8, 1911 in Waterbury, a son of the late Rocco and Carmella Salvatore Lauro, and a nephew of the late Achille Lauro, a former mayor of Naples, Italy. He was a graduate of Fordham University and New York University Law School. A New Haven resident since 1949, he was the proprietor of Lauro's Market and Liquor Stores for 20 years. He then worked for the Knights of Columbus until his retirement. Throughout his business career, Mr. Lauro was also an avid private investor and philanthropist.
Mr. Lauro was a member and faithful communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Waterbury and later in life of the Sacred Heart Church in Georgetown. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, serving as a survival instructor in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Mr. Lauro is survived by his daughter, Barbara L. Roche and her husband, John M. of Redding; a sister, Fannie Lauro of Waterbury; six grandchildren: Michael J. Roche and his wife, Emily of Westport; Dennis P. Roche and his wife, Karen of Fairfield; Brian F. Roche and his wife, Ana of Providence, R.I.; Christina L. and her husband, Peter Toto of Woodcliff Lake, N.J.; Laura A. Roche of Framingham, Mass.; and Jeanmarie M. and her husband, Herb Hoover of Sandy Hook; and five great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 12 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Waterbury. Following cremation, burial of cremains will take place in Umpawaug Cemetery, Redding. There are no calling hours. Hull Funeral Service, 60 Division St., Danbury is handling arrangements.
Marilyn Wozniak
Marilyn Wozniak, 45, of Danbury, died on Monday at Danbury Hospital. She was the daughter of Martin and Eleanor Wozniak.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Nov. 28, 1953, and moved to Hamden with her parents. She was a graduate of Hamden High School.
In addition to her parents, Marilyn is survived by a brother, Martin Wozniak of Hamden; and a sister, Janet Wozniak of Boston.
There are no calling hours. The funeral will be private and at the convenience of the family. Hull Funeral Service, 60 Division St., Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.
Warren F. "Skip" Metcalf
Warren F. "Skip" Metcalf, 60, husband of Donna (Steck) Metcalf, of 124 F Heritage Village, Southbury, died at Mediplex of Southbury on Wednesday evening.
He was born in Danbury May 23, 1939, son of Helen (Tarala) Metcalf of S. Williamsport, Pa. and the late Warren F. Metcalf. He grew up at Candlewood Shores in Brookfield and was a graduate of Henry Abbott Technical School, 1957. He had attended Western Connecticut State University and the University of Bridgeport and served with the U.S. Air Force. He had been employed by Branson Sonic Power for 32 years and presently was serving as market segment manager. He had lived in the Atlanta, Georgia for the past 20 years, prior to moving to Southbury this past March.
In addition to his wife and his mother, he is survived by two sons, Donald W. Metcalf of Fairfax, Va. and David T. Metcalf of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Harry Binger of Montoursville, Pa.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Charleen and Bill Swanson of Newtown; five grandsons, two granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.

Gertrude M. Doble
Gertrude M. Doble, age 85, of Redding, died on Thursday, November 18, 1999 at Harborside Glen Hill, in Danbury. She was the wife of Henry P. Doble Jr., Ph.D.
Mrs. Doble was born October 28, 1914 in Babylon, New York, a daughter of the late Charles L. and Theresa (Schmidt) Frank. She grew up in the Woodside area of Queens, New York, and was a graduate of the Traphagen School of Design in New York City. She was employed as a clothing designer for the Trico Company for ten years, prior to her marriage to her husband, Henry in 1947. During World War II, Mrs. Doble volunteered with the American Red Cross.
A resident of Redding for the past 27 years, Mrs. Doble was a member of the Redding Garden Club and the St. Patrick's Church Women's Guild, where she was a parishioner, and was a former president of both organizations. She served as a member and past chairwoman of the Commission for the Elderly and was a coordinator for the Meals on Wheels program, both in Redding. In addition, Mrs. Doble was a Master Gardener with the State of Connecticut and a former private airplane pilot.
In addition to her husband of 52 years, Mrs. Doble is survived by two sons, Gerard T. Doble of Southbury and H. Peter Doble II, M.D. of Twin Falls, Idaho; four grandchildren and several nephews and cousins. Mrs. Doble was predeceased by her son, Mark Steven Doble.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 22nd, at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Redding at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York.
The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel on Sunday from 2 thru 5 p.m.

Jeanette (Bolognese) Cerone
The death of Jeanette (Bolognese) Cerone, 90, of Possum Drive, New Fairfield and formerly of Augustanna Homes, Bethel, occurred at the Pope John Paul Center for Health Care Tuesday evening. She was the wife of the late Michael J. Cerone.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y., September 18, 1909, daughter of the late Ralph and Anna Esposito Bolognese, she lived most of her life in the Bronx, moving to this area 15 years ago. She received her education in New York schools.
Her married life was devoted to her home and family.
She was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield and the New Fairfield Senior Center.
Surviving are a son, Frank M. Cerone and his wife, Lois of the Bronx, N.Y.; two daughters, Phyllis Forese and her husband, Rocky of New Fairfield, Anne Biraglia and her husband, Joseph of Danbury; a brother, Ernest Bolognese of Forked River, N.J.; a sister, Edith Standish of Fairlawn, N.J.; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Edward the Confessor Church Friday morning at 11:00.
Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

Frederick J. Walker
Frederick J. Walker, formerly of Danbury, died November 15, 1999 at his home in Lee Hall, Virginia.
Born on July 9, 1927, Mr. Walker graduated from Roger Ludlow High School in Fairfield and Brown University. He earned his master of science degree in electrical engineering from Lehigh University and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for Manning, Maxwell & Moore, Consolidated Controls and Eaton Corporation for 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Walker of Lee Hall, Virginia; his daughters, Barbara Duffy of Hong Kong and Joanne Kirk of Southbury; two grandchildren; his sister, Mary Louise Kidder of Mahopac, N.Y. and his brother, Richard Walker of Akron, Ohio.
A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 11:45 a.m. on Monday, November 22, 1999 at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings on Hudson, New York. In lieu of flowers, a contribution on behalf of Mr. Walker may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Mildred S. Menzer
Mildred S. Menzer, 94, wife of the late Eric Menzer, of Jensen Beach, Fla., formerly of Fairfield Ave., Danbury, died at the National Health Care Center in Stuart on Tuesday evening.
She was born in Sherman, October 5, 1905, daughter of the late John and Selma (Johanson) Swanson. Mrs. Menzer had been a lifetime area resident prior to moving to Florida in 1969.
She is survived by three sons, Eric E. Menzer and John Menzer of New Fairfield and Donald Menzer of Brookfield; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Private graveside funeral services will be held at Wooster Cemetery on Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
There will be no calling hours. Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.

Harold "Howie" Stiger
Harold "Howie" Stiger, of Deltona, Fla., formerly of Brookfield, died Thursday November 11, 1999. He was the beloved husband of Maureen Stiger.
Survivors include six daughters: Nancy Labarre and Linda Allegro of Deltona, Fla.; Maryellen Huntley and Laura Holme of Danbury; Tracy Mendelson of Southbury; Maureen Schaedler of New Milford and two brothers, two sisters and 15 grandchildren.
Janet Marie Berggren
Janet Marie Berggren, 21, died in an automobile accident in Onondaga County, N.Y. on Monday, November 15.
Janet was the principal dancer for several productions of Cinderella and The Nutcracker Suite performed by her dance company, Myers Ballet Co. She danced for Myers for several years and recently was in her second year at Maria College in Albany, N.Y., where she was a student.
Born on February 11, 1978 to Robert W. and Donna (Gereg) Berggren, Janet was a 1996 graduate of Niskayuna High School.
Besides going to college, Janet was employed by Romano's Macaroni and Grill on Wolf Road at the time of her death.
Surviving are her parents, her five brothers: Jason R. and his wife, Michelle Berggren of Schenectady, N.Y., Brent E., Joel A., Zachary J. and Seth J. Berggren, all of Niskayuna, N.Y.
Paternal granddaughter of Beatrice V. Berggren of Danbury and the late Norman Berggren. Maternal granddaughter of the late Edith and Joseph Gereg.
Janet leaves her uncle, Rev. Edward Berggren and his wife, Rebecca of Glenville, N.Y. as well as Mr. and Mrs. James Murphy, Pam McCauley and Dennis Gereg, all of Bethel. Two great aunts, Grace Wildman and Anabel Andros, both of Danbury.
Service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the Glenville Funeral Home, with the Rev. Edward Berggren officiating. A celebration of Janet's life will be shared by friends and family.
Calling hours will be in the Glenville Funeral Home, Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 12 to 1 p.m. for those wishing to call.
Interment at Memory's Garden in Colonie.
Vincent R. Monti
Vincent R. Monti, 60, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died Sunday, November 14, 1999 at St. Anthony's Hospital.
Born in Darien, he moved to Florida in 1981 from Danbury. He was currently a Truck Driver for Cox Lumber Company in Largo, Fla. since 1990. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include his two sons, Vincent R., Jr., New Milford; Stephen, Mt. Kisco, N.Y.; daughter, Cynthia Monti, Alfreda, Ga.; mother, Minnie Monti, Debary, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Ann St. John, Bethlehem; Agnes Troy, Ridgefield; two brothers, Thomas, Debary, Fla., Salvatore, Ridgefield; two grandchildren and his companion, Genevieve Clark, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Eugene O'Connor
Eugene J. O'Connor, age 83, of Poughquag, N.Y., formerly of Brewster, N.Y., died Tuesday, November 16, 1999 at his home after a brief illness.
Mr. O'Connor was born November 23, 1915 in Brewster, N.Y., the son of the late Eugene and Jennie (Quinn) O'Connor. He graduated from Brewster High School and lived in Brewster, N.Y. all his life before moving to Poughquag, N.Y. 20 years ago.
He served in the US Navy during World War II and then worked the security division of the New York State Police as a guard for Gov. Thomas E. Dewey. Mr. O'Connor became an Insurance Representative for the Prudential Insurance Co. working from their Danbury office for over 30 years. He was a communicant of St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Brewster, N.Y. for many years and also attended St. John's Church in Pawling, N.Y.
Mr. O'Connor is survived by his wife, Edith (McDonnell) O'Connor, whom he married on May 26, 1943 in Danbury. He is also survived by one son, Eugene J. O'Connor of Meriden; two daughters, Carol Mandras O'Connor of Danbury and Linda Smith of Poughquag, N.Y.; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
