Rita E. Schulz
The death of Rita E. Schulz, 88, former Owner and Proprietor of the Johanna Meltzer Corset Shop in Danbury, occurred at her home Friday evening after a brief illness.
Born in Danbury June 28, 1911, daughter of the late Frederick and Johanna Eckert Schulz, she was a lifelong Danbury resident, attended Immanuel Lutheran School, Danbury High School and the Danbury Normal School, now Western Connecticut State University.
For 25 years she was the Owner and Proprietor of the former Johanna Meltzer Corset Shop in Danbury and had worked with her mother at the corset shop for several years prior to her ownership. Earlier she had been employed at the Danbury News-Times.
During World War II she had served in the Women's Army Corps with the Army Air Corps ferrying troops back to this country.
She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was very active as a Volunteer in their many functions and was a member of its Women's Group.
Surviving are many nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Saturday afternoon at 2:00 with the Rev. Daniel Wehmeier, Pastor, officiating.

Frances Marino
Frances Marino, 88, died November 5, 1999. Her funeral was held on Tuesday, November 9, 1999 in Port Orange, Florida.
She was an inspector for Davis and Geck for 21 years before she moved to Port Orange, Florida from Bethel in 1978.
Mrs. Marino's survivors include her daughter, Patricia Haddad; brother, Philip Spina; grandson, Jeffrey Day; grandson, Conrad G. Haddad; granddaughter, Joann Pagano; great grandson, Jeffrey A. Day; great grandson, Conrad James Haddad; niece, Phyllis Ducibella.
Walter R. Blonski
Walter R. Blonski, 81, beloved husband of Marguerite (Donato) Blonski, of Fourth Street, Danbury, died at the Bethel Health Care Center on Sunday evening.
He was born in Freeland, Pa. February 10, 1918, a son of the late Ignatius and Ludwika (Pekala) Blonski. He was a graduate of Foster Township High School in Freeland and had attended Crandall Business School in Danbury and had taken courses at Western CT State University. He moved to Danbury in 1937 and had worked in the hatting industry for five years; he then worked for the Bridgeport Brass Co. during the war years. From 1947 until his retirement in 1984, he worked for Republic Foil/National Aluminum. He started as a rolling mill supervisor, he later became Quality Control Manager and at the time of his retirement he was Quality Assurance Manager and Consultant. Mr. Blonski was one of the founding members of the Greater Danbury Section of the American Society of Quality Control. He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Church in Danbury and was an avid flower grower. He and Mrs. Blonski celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this past October 26th.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Blonski is survived by two sons, Ronald A. Blonski and his wife, Cathy of Danbury and Father Joachim (Jan) Blonski of Aztec, New Mexico; five sisters, Sophie Jasinski of Bethel, Mary Patren and Josephine Esposito of Danbury, Helen Schulze of Brookfield and Dolores Toussaint of New Milford; two grandchildren, Rebecca L. Blonski and Steven A. Blonski, both of Danbury; his dog "Casey" and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Marguerite and three brothers, Joseph, John and Frank Blonski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by his son, Father Joe, at St. Gregory the Great Church on Friday morning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.

Tufic Saloom
Tufic Saloom, 88, of 88 Main Street, Danbury, husband of the late Elsie (Beshara) Saloom, died on Tuesday, November 9, 1999 at the Bethel Healthcare Center, Bethel.
Mr. Saloom was born in Kana, Lebanon January 24, 1911, a son of the late Shibley and Mariam (Boutros) Saloom and emigrated to this country as a young man first settling in Newark, New Jersey. He moved to Danbury in 1929 and has been a resident ever since.
Mr. Saloom was employed for many years by the General Electric Company and in later years by Amphenol of Danbury.
He was a member of the Lebanon American Club and served as chairman of the house committee. He was also a member of the Joseph A. Treadwell Post American Legion of Danbury as well as St. Ann's Melkite Church.
He is survived by two sons, Kenneth G. Saloom of Brookfield and Louis D. Saloom of Southington as well as four grandchildren, a great granddaughter, as well as nieces, grand nieces and grand nephews.
The Rite of Burial will take place on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Melkite Church, 181 Clapboard Ridge Road (Route 39) Danbury, with the Rev. Basil R.A. Parent, officiating.
Burial will take place in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury on Friday at 10 a.m.
Friends will be received at St. Ann's Church on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The Trisagion Prayer Service will be conducted on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m.

John Joseph Kroha
John Joseph Kroha, age 76, of Brewster, N.Y. and Narragansett, R.I., died Sunday, November 7, 1999 at South County Hospital in Wakefield, R.I.
Mr. Kroha was born December 27, 1922, in Danbury to the late Francis and Anna (Seaman) Kroha. He attended schools in Danbury. Mr. Kroha had served in the US Navy during World War II in the European Theater of Operations and saw action in Anzio, Italy and Normandy, France.
Mr. Kroha married Edith Becker on August 4, 1945 in New York City.
Mr. Kroha was a foreman for NYSEG in Brewster, N.Y. for 29 years retiring in 1980. He was a resident of Brewster, N.Y. since 1950 and a summer resident of Narragansett since 1964. Mr. Kroha had lived in Danbury prior to Brewster, N.Y. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing.
Besides his wife, Mr. Kroha is survived by five sons, John of Valatie, N.Y., Timothy of Virginia Beach, Va., Peter of Lake Placid, N.Y., Christopher of Black Diamond, Wash. and Matthew of Rolling Hills, Calif.; five daughters, Patricia Jones of Beaverton, Ore., Virginia Carlotti of Brewster, N.Y., Rosemary Heydt of Jamestown, R.I., Elizabeth Kroha of White Plains, N.Y. and Susan Kroha of Brewster, N.Y.; three sisters, Thelma Emory, Helen Palmer and Marie Plecity; four brothers, Francis, Vincent, David and Donald Kroha; ten grandsons and nine granddaughters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 12, 1999 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Putnam Lake, N.Y. Interment at St. Peter's Cemetery, Danbury. Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Grace O. McNulty
Grace O. McNulty, age 86, of New Milford, died on Sunday at her home. She was the wife of the late Thomas J. McNulty Sr.
Mrs. McNulty was born in Danbury January 2, 1913, a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Karey) Oris. She was a graduate of the Danbury High School and was a resident of the Danbury, Brookfield and New Milford area throughout her life.
Mrs. McNulty was last employed as an office manager for the Viking Wire Co. of Danbury and was also employed by other Danbury companies throughout her working career, primarily in the area of bookkeeping.
During World War II, Mrs. McNulty was employed as an inspector/machinist with the Barden Corp. of Danbury and contributed to the development of the Norden Bomb Site.
An avid gardener and grower of chrysanthemums, she was a member, with her late husband, of the Dahlia Society, and also enjoyed sewing, breeding and raising basset hounds and traveling throughout Ireland. Mrs. McNulty was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, Danbury.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas J. McNulty Jr. of Danbury and John V. McNulty of East Haddam; one daughter, Zita A. Seymour of Southbury; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 12th at St. Joseph Church, Danbury, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

Deborah A. Stewart
Deborah A. Stewart, 57, of Datahr Rehabilitation Center, died Saturday morning at Danbury Hospital.
Ms. Stewart was born in India on August 27, 1942, daughter of the late John L. and Abbe (Wallace) Stewart. She is survived by a brother, John Stewart of Danbury.
Burial will be at the Bridgewater Cemetery at the convenience of family. A memorial service will be held at the Datahr Rehabilitation Institute in Brookfield at a date and time to be announced. The Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main Street North, is in charge of arrangements.
George Downs
George Downs, age 62, of 160 Mt. Pleasant Road, Newtown, died at his home on Sunday.
Born February 19, 1937 in New York, New York, a son of the late George Downs Sr. and Mary Shkira Downs Merck. An area resident for most of his life, Mr. Downs was a graduate of Henry Abbot Technical School, Danbury. Mr. Downs was employed for many years as an auto mechanic for several dealerships including Colonial Ford and Action Motors. Mr. Downs retired two years ago due to illness. Mr. Downs was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #1373, Danbury.
Mr. Downs is survived by two sons, Michael J. Downs of New Milford and George Downs III of Nashua, N.H.; two sisters, Mary Roosevelt of Southbury and Barbara Downs of Danbury; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Downs is predeceased by a brother, Robert Downs and a sister, Jean Johnson.
Family will receive friends in the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.

Charles R. Searles
Charles R. Searles, 68, of Fairfield, died Sunday at Heritage Heights Nursing Home in Danbury.
Mr. Searles was born February 3, 1931, in Valhalla, N.Y., to the late George and Mary Searles. Mr. Searles had served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Searles is survived by a son, Charles R. Searles Jr. of Minnesota; four daughters, Georgie L. Machado of Brookfield; Mary R. Culver of New Mexico; Nancy A. Knapp of Bethel; and Ann L. Searles of Nevada; a brother, George B. Searles Jr. of Sloansville, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and one great grandson.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 10 at the Middle Patent Cemetery in Banksville, N.Y.

Vivian (Tabansky) Kass
Vivian (Tabansky) Kass, of Farmington Woods, Mallard Dr., Farmington and Delray Beach, Fla., died Sunday, November 7, 1999 at home. Born in Russia, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Bella (Eisenstein) Tabansky.
She lived in West Hartford for most of her life and was a retired clerk at The Travelers.
She leaves her husband, Philip Kass; two sons, Stephen H. Kass and his wife, Leslie Robinson of New Haven and Gary A. Kass of Danbury; a daughter, Elaine Kass and her husband, Vernon Frazer of East Hartford; and four grandchildren, Jonathan P. DuBoff,. Alison G. Kass, Julia Robinson Kass and Hannah Robinson Kass. She was predeceased by a grandson, Scott J. Kass; a brother, Morris Tabansky; and three sisters, Ida Rosenberg, Sarah Friedman and Fannie Zetoff.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 10, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford with interment in the Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, East Granby. A memorial period will be observed at her home Wednesday following the funeral through Thursday evening.

William P. Mandzuk
William P. Mandzuk, 79, of New York City, died Saturday evening at Beth Israel Hospital in New York.
William was born in 1920 in New York. His parents, Peter Mandzuk and Anna Dziuba immigrated from Austria in the early part of this century. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He was a minor league baseball player with the Georgia and Florida teams of the New York Giants. He worked as a Train Dispatcher for the New York Transit Authority.
William is survived by his wife, Valeria; his children, Peter, Margaret and Paul: and his grandchildren, Eric, Craig, Heather, Caitlin and Kevin.
Friends may call at the Gannon Funeral Home, 152 East 28th Street (3rd Avenue) in New York City (212 532-6579), today from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Epiphany Church, 239 East 21st Street (2nd Avenue) also in New York City, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Raymond's Cemetery.
