Maurice A. Goldstein
Maurice A. Goldstein, a senior partner in the Law Firm of Cramer & Anderson, died November 6, 1999 in New Milford Hospital.
He was born in Danbury on October 8, 1930, son of the late Irving and Sylvia (Worthman) Goldstein. He was a 1948 graduate of Danbury High School and graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1952 and Boston University School of Law in 1955. He served in the Judge Advocate Office of the US Navy and became a member of the Law Firm of Cramer & Anderson in 1949 where his guidance and wisdom will be missed. He was a warm friend to all of his colleagues and co-workers who had the greatest respect for him, his compassion, his kindness, his honesty and his integrity which were truly inspirational. He was a true gentleman and his quiet strength and elegance will be remembered by all.
He contributed immensely in civic and community activities in New Milford most notably as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the New Milford Hospital Foundation from 1988 to 1999 and co-chairman of the recent Capital Leadership Program for the New Milford Hospital. Maurice was instrumental in the establishment of the New Milford Hospital-Columbia Presbyterian Regional Cancer Center that opened this year. Among other civic activities, he was President of the Chamber of Commerce, President of the New Milford Rotary Club and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Housatonic-Shepaug United Way.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Attorney Theodore H. and Helen of Goldstein of Danbury; his life long friend, Hanley Meirowitz of New Milford; his nephews and their wives, Irving and Ellen Goldstein of Greenwich and their children, Amy and David, Stephen and Susan Goldstein of Wayland, Mass. and their son, Aaron, Mark and Maria Goldstein of Glen Mills, Pa.; and nieces, Dr. Diane Goldstein of Oakland, Calif. and Susan Kustaborder of Langhorne, Pa. and her husband, Craig. A brother, Marvin C. Goldstein predeceased him. They all shared great love between them.
A funeral service to be conducted by Rabbi Norman Koch will take place on Tuesday at Temple Sholom, 122 Kent Road, New Milford at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the United Jewish Cemetery on Miry Brook Road, Danbury.

M. Dorothy Donovan McGrath
M. Dorothy Donovan McGrath, age 88, of 7 Attawan Ave., Niantic, died Saturday at the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London. She was born August 9, 1911 in New London, the daughter of Patrick and Mary Keefe Donovan.
Mrs. McGrath worked for many years as a secretary/bursar for Saint Bernard High School and Saint Joseph School. She retired in 1984. Mrs. McGrath graduated from local schools and the New London Business College. She married James T. McGrath on August 19, 1937 in New London. He died in 1971.
She is survived by two sons, T. Thomas McGrath of Plano, Texas and Richard McGrath of New Milford; one daughter, Therese Merola of North Haven; four sisters, Helen Galvin of New London, Margaret Marnett of Boynton Beach, Fla., Mildred Ferace of Waterford and Jane Donovan of Washington D.C.; twelve grandchildren, Debra Merola, Nicholas Merola, David Merola, Traci Belcher, Shane McGrath, Lauri McGrath, Patrick McGrath, Tera Nimer, Scott Nimer, Kenneth Nimer and Allie Nimer; and two great grandchildren, Casey Merola and Ashley Norkowski. She was predeceased by five brothers, Ronald Donovan, Kenneth Donovan, John Donovan, Arthur Donovan and William Donovan.
The funeral will assemble on Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Joseph Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial is in Saint Mary Cemetery. Eudora C. Surber
Eudora C. Surber, 97, wife of the late Howard J. Surber, formerly of Danbury, died at Ashlar of Newtown on Sunday.
She was born in Danbury August 16, 1902, daughter of the late Patrick and Josephine (Mannion) Cahill. She grew up in Bethel and after her marriage had lived in Bridgeport for many years. She returned to the Danbury area in the 1970's.
Mrs. Surber is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gail C. and Anne Surber of Trumbull; two grandsons, Timothy Surber and his wife, Kate of Norwalk and Brian Surber of Trumbull and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Kevin Surber in 1988.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, Bethel on Wednesday morning at a time to be announced. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Francis L. DeFazio
Francis L. DeFazio, 79, of 527 Villa Ave., Fairfield, died at his home on Saturday, November 6, 1999. He was the husband of the late Sara (Finch) DeFazio.
Born in Danbury June 2, 1920, he was a son of the late Frank and Rose (Aldreany) DeFazio.
Mr. DeFazio attended Danbury High School. He worked for the American Cyanamid Company in Danbury, as a clerk and then as manager in the shipping department, retiring after 32 years of service. After his retirement he moved to Florida, where he lived for 17 years. He moved to Fairfield to live with his daughter this past January. Mr. DeFazio volunteered his time to help animals at the Animal Angels Rescue Foundation of Stratford.
He is survived by his loving daughter and beloved son-in-law, RoseMarie and Allen Cassatt of Fairfield and stepdaughters, Kimberly Kephart of Jensen Beach, Fla. and Tammy Miller of Aurora, Ill.; as well as his grandchildren, Bob Cowan, Kelly Cowan-Garretson, Trevor Kephart and Noel Kephart and a nephew, Michael DeFazio of Danbury. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ralph "Babe" DeFazio and Joseph DeFazio.
Funeral Services will be held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. Burial will be private.
Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. before the service.

Aldo Scudo
Aldo Scudo, 84, of 32 Benson Road, Ridgefield, husband of Lorraine (Argenti) Scudo, died on Sunday morning, November 7, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Scudo was born in New York, N.Y. February 21, 1915, a son of the late Louis and Mary (Quartero) Scudo. He attended New York schools.
An area resident since 1955, he lived in Newtown, Danbury and Ridgefield.
Mr. Scudo was a retired engineer having been employed by Exxon based at their Brookfield location. He was also affiliated with Demetron Research of Danbury and previously to Exxon with FXR-Amphenol of Danbury.
He was active in scouting and was associated with the Mauweehoo and Schaghticoke Councils having served as a district commissioner and district chairman as well as a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.
He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers as well as St. Joseph's Church of Danbury.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by a son, Robert Scudo of Arlington, Va.; two daughters, Carol Delgato of Hilton Head, S.C. and Sally Scudo of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. as well as six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 10, 1999, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Danbury.
Burial will follow in St. Lawrence O'Toole Cemetery, Brewster, N.Y.
Friends will be received in the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m.
Bonnie L. Moore-Messer
Bonnie L. Moore-Messer, 38, of Newton, N.H., and formerly of East Bridgewater, died Nov. 4, 1999, after being struck while walking in New York. She was the wife of Richard Messer.
She was born in Brockton, Mass., a daughter of Frank L. Moore of East Bridgewater and June L. (Hollertz) Moore of Sandwich, Mass.
Mrs. Moore-Messer was a 1979 graduate of East Bridgewater High School and graduated with a degree in economics from the University of Connecticut.
She had been employed as the northeast regional sales manager for Peoplesoft, Inc. in Waltham, Mass.
Mrs. Moore-Messer was a member of the American Horse Association and of the Granite State Morgan Horse Association. She was an accomplished horse woman who raised, showed and trained Morgan horses for over 30 years. She showed many horses from Pine View Acres, the family owned farms, where she won regional, national and world championships. She was also an avid golfer and a well known athlete at East Bridgewater High School.
She loved all animals, especially cats.
Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Moore-Messer is survived by her stepmother, Rosemary E. Moore of East Bridgewater; a sister, Robin E. More of Sandwich; her father and mother-in-law, Frank J. and Joann V. Messer of Brookfield; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 am. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 900 Main St., Brockton. Burial will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery in West Bridgewater.
The Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home in Brockton, Mass, is in charge of arrangements.
Robert F. Chiocchio
Robert F. Chiocchio, 68, of 79 Wislock St., Waterbury, father of Robert A. Chiocchio and Cindy Buzaid of Danbury, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara (Perazella) Chiocchio.
He was born in Waterbury on March 22, 1931, son of the late Anthony and Carmella (Rossi) Chiocchio. Before his retirement in 1980, he was the owner of Barnard's Express, Inc.
Mr. Chiocchio was an active member of St. Leo the Great Church, where he was a past trustee and a member of the Men's Club. He was a past officer of the United Commercial Travelers and a member of the N.R.A.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Besides his wife, son and daughter, he is survived by five grandchildren.
A funeral service will take place Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to St. Leo the Great Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Norma T. Lucente
Norma T. Lucente, 93, of Danbury, a former longtime resident of Port Chester, N.Y., died Nov. 5, 1999, in Danbury. She was the wife of the late Dominick Lucente, who died in 1990.
She was born July 19, 1906, in Dickenson Center, N.Y., a daughter of the late Archie and Myrtle Morey Tower. She was raised and educated in Northern New York.
Mrs. Lucente was a retired school teacher who had taught in Northern New York and in the Port Chester public schools.
She was married on June 29, 1929.
Mrs. Lucente was a parishioner of the Corpus Christi Church in Port Chester. She had been a Danbury resident for the past eight years.
Mrs. Lucente is survived by a son, Richard Lucente of New Milford; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews. Besides her husband, she is predeceased by her brothers, Deforest and Archie Tower; and her sister, Clara Hartson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, South Regent Street, Port Chester. Interment will follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Rye Brook, N.Y. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Craft Memorial Home, Inc., Port Chester.
Anthony W. McGarr
Anthony W. McGarr, 93, of 51 Pickett District Road, New Milford, husband of Julia Emmons Caldwell McGarr, died Thursday at New Milford Nursing Home.
Mr. McGarr was born in New Milford June 18, 1906, a son of the late James and Mary Hayes McGarr. He was a graduate of New Milford High School. He had been employed by the Connecticut Light & Power Company for 44 years, retiring in 1971, as an electrical serviceman.
Mr. McGarr was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford, and a member of Housatonic Council No. 40 Knights of Columbus.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Cummings of Annandale, Va.; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Agnes Monaghan McGarr.
Funeral services will be on Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Friends may call at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, after 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
Elsa Sandstrom Ouzts
Elsa Sandstrom Ouzts, born in Oslo, Norway, on April 23, 1913, died Friday, November 5, 1999, in Pensacola, Florida.
Mrs. Ouzts attended schools in Danbury, CT, and graduated high school in 1933. She attended St. James Church in Danbury, CT, and worked at Barden Corp. for 14 years.
Mrs. Ouzts moved to Pensacola from Danbury in 1978 and was an active member of St. Christopher Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Benjamin F. Ouzts of Pensacola, FL; a daughter, Sandra A. Sanchez and her husband, Dr. Peter A. Sanchez, M.D. of Mobile, AL; a sister and brother-in-law, Jane M. and David Edward Hancock of Danbury, CT; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a niece, Nancy Ochs and her husband, Robert, of Danbury, CT.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, 1999, with the Rev. Edward Harrison officiating at St. Christopher's Church in Florida.

Alice M. Farcas
Alice M. Farcas, 85, a resident of West Redding since 1954, died on Thursday (November 4) at Ashlar of Newtown. She was the wife of Gordon S. Farcas.
Mrs. Farcas was born in New York City on July 30, 1914, a daughter of the late John and Annie Fealey Craig. A homemaker, she was a member of the Eastern Star (Floral Chapter No. 5) formerly of Georgetown and a member of the Weston Grange.
In addition to her husband of sixty-eight years, Mrs. Farcas is survived by a son, Gordon W. Farcas of Marshall, TX; a daughter, Elena Powers of Shrewsbury, MA; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at the Bouton Funeral Home, 31 West Church Street, Georgetown, on Sunday (Nov. 7) at 8:30 p.m.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 7 p.m. to the time of the service.
The interment will take place on Monday (Nov. 8) at 11 a.m. in Hull Cemetery, Redding.
