He was killed when the car in which he was riding flipped over on a narrow rural road in Manchester, VT. shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday.
The driver remained hospitalized Tuesday in serious condition. Police were investigating what caused the car to cross the center line and flip over.
Ryan attended Northville and John Pettibone schools before moving with his family to Manchester five years ago. A passion for basketball, first nurtured at the New Milford Parks and Recreation programs, followed him north.
Ryan was a junior at Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester, Vt., where he was a member of the school basketball team. He was an avid golfer, a snowboarder and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
"I think the most telling, accurate and meaningful thing I could say about him was that he was so well liked by everybody here," Burr and Burton headmaster Charles Scranton said. "He was like a bridge. He transcended every group and had friends in every corner of the school. That's why the whole school is so devastated."
Besides his parents, Ryan is survived by a sister, Mia; his grandparents, Marie and Anthony DeFelice of Woodbury, and Nan Cannon of Dover, N.J.; several aunts, uncles; and many friends.
The Brewster Funeral Service of Manchester Center, Vt. was in charge of arrangements.
