Walter J. LaPine

Walter James LaPine, age 77, of Danbury died on Friday May 7th after a long battle with cancer. He was a lifelong area resident, living in Brookfield for the past 44 years and most recently in Danbury. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Frances; his son Jim; daughter in law Diane; and 2 grandchildren, Jaimie and Gregory, all of Danbury.

Mr. LaPine was born in Danbury on July 24, 1921 and was a graduate of Danbury High School Class of 1938. In his early years, he was a popular musician playing saxophone and clarinet with such bands as Tommy Dorsey and Horace Heidt as well as many local orchestras.

During World War II, Mr. LaPine served in the U.S. Marine Corps, participating in the invasion of Okinawa with the 1st Marine Division followed by occupation duty in Peiping, China. He received the Presidential Unit Citation as well as a Navy Letter of Commendation for his service in the Pacific theater.

Mr. LaPine retired in 1988 as a Northeast District Manager of Gates Rubber Co. of Denver, Colorado. After his retirement, he worked at Ruwet Sibley Auto Supply in New Milford, as well as Kent Auto Supply.

Mr. LaPine enjoyed an active life and participated in local veteran's organizations. He was a member of the 1st Marine Division Association, China Marine Association and American Legion Post No. 60 and was a life member of the Marine Corps League Hat City Detachment of Danbury.

Friends may call at The Cornell Funeral Home, 247 White St., Danbury, on Sunday, May 9, from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Members of the Hat City Detachment will meet at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Cornell Funeral Home on Monday, May 10, at 11:00 a.m. Mr. LaPine will be laid to rest at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Tamarack Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Regional Hospice of Danbury or Marine Corps League Hat City Detachment of Danbury, P.O. Box 4256, Danbury, CT 06813.

Edwin A. Wixted Sr.

Edwin A. Wixted Sr., 81, husband of Margaret (Shanley) Wixted, of 9 Wixted Ave., Danbury, died at the Danbury Hospital on Wednesday, May 5, 1999.

He was born in Danbury on September 24, 1917, son of Sylvester and Grace (Freeland) Wixted. He was a 1935 graduate of Danbury High School. Mr. Wixted served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater during World War II as an aviation machinist mate. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1979 after 41 years of service. After his retirement, he worked at the Paul Kovacs Tire Shop on South Street in Danbury.

Mr. Wixted was a member of St. Peter Church in Danbury, where he served as an usher and a lector, a 60-year member of the Beckerle Hose Co. of Danbury, a member of the Danbury Elks Lodge and a member of the Catholic War Veterans.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Edwin A. Wixted Jr. of Waterbury, Dennis J. Wixted of New Fairfield and Michael E. Wixted of Guilford; two daughters, Anita M. Hampl of Georgia and Grace E. Wixted of Brookfield; one brother, William V. Wixted of New Mexico; three sisters, Dorothy Kane of Danbury, Mary Gorman and Joan Sullivan, both of Florida; 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Wixted was predeceased by five brothers, Sylvester, Francis, Robert, Leo and Charles, and by two sisters, Elizabeth Gallagher and Grace Zwyner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Peter Church in Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 9 to 10 a.m.

Contributions may be made to the St. Peter Church Parking Fund, c/o 104 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810 or to the Beckerle Hose Co., 69 Liberty St., Danbury, CT 06810.

Members of the Beckerle Hose Co. will meet at the Hose Co. on Sunday at 7 p.m. to go as a group to pay their respects to Mr. Wixted.

Veronica M. Loughlin

Veronica M. Loughlin, age 82, wife of the late Timothy J. Loughlin of 42 Elizabeth Circle, Newtown died Wednesday May 5, 1999 at her home.

Mrs. Loughlin was born in New York City Dec. 1, 1916, a daughter of John C. and Mary (Markey) Giesi. She had been a resident of Newtown for the past 44 years. Mrs. Loughlin was a communicant and active in parish affairs at St. Rose of Lima Church. She was a volunteer Patient Representative at Danbury Hospital. Mrs. Loughlin was a member of the Newtown Womens Club and a driver for Newtown Meals on Wheels.

Mrs. Loughlin is survived by two daughters, Veronica Singel of Saranac Lake, N.Y. and Deidre Macho of Brookfield and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:30 a.m. from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown and at 9 am in St. Rose Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Newtown Village Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Louisa Wieting

Lousia Wolfer Wieting, age 95, of 47 Church Hill Road, Washington Depot, Conn., died in New Milford Hospital on Wednesday, May 5, 1999 after a brief illness. She was the widow of Henry A. Wieting.

Mrs. Wieting was born on January 28, 1904 in Austria, daughter of George and Anna Wolfer. She came to this country in 1923 and was employed by her brother-in-law, Anton Preininger, a New York City real estate developer. After her marriage, she moved to Islip, Long Island, N.Y. She came to New Milford, Conn. in 1939. She later served as adviser and assisted in the operation of the former F.A. Wieting Agency, Real Estate, Insurance, Builders and Developers.

Mrs. Wieting was a strong supporter of animal welfare. She enjoyed her cats, gardening and reading all of her life.

She leaves two sons, George W. Wieting and Fritz A. Wieting, both of New Milford; a sister, Julia Aasland of New York City; a niece, Erna Zeunges of Brookfield; a nephew, Paul Wolfer of Chicago, Ill. and family members in Austria.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford.

Stanley Emil Jacke

Stanley Emil Jacke, of Malvern, Pa. and Block Island, R.I., died on May 3, 1999 at Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen C. Jacke (nee Van Deusen); three sons, Doug Jacke of Palm Harbor, Fla., Peter Jacke of Mountain View, Calif. and David Jacke of Leverett, Mass.; two daughters, Karen Jacke of Los Altos, Calif. and Susan Littlefield of Block Island, R.I.; a brother, Howard Jacke of Livingston, N.J.; two sisters, Erna Robinson of West Orange, N.J. and Barbara Tuck of Norfolk, Va. and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Wilbur Jacke.

Mr. Jacke served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II as a radar technician on a destroyer escort, then graduated from Purdue University in 1951 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He was an inventor and held 17 patents. He retired as executive vice president of SmithKline Beecham, Philadelphia, Pa. and became president of his own consulting company, Aspen Sonics, Inc. (ASI).

Mr. Jacke was a member and elder of the Paoli Presbyterian Church and an associate member of the Harbor Baptist Church, Block Island, R.I. In addition, he served on various boards including the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Bio-Plexus of Vernon, Conn., the Lewis Corp. of Oxford, Conn. and African Rural Outreach and Development. He was the former president of the Ultrasonic Manufacturers Association.

Mr. Jacke prided himself on being a raspberry farmer and composter on Block Island.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service on Saturday, 1 p.m., at the Paoli Presbyterian Church, 225 South Valley Road, Paoli, Pa. A second service and interment will be held on Block Island this summer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Mission Committee of Paoli Presbyterian Church or the Anchor Fund of Harbor Island Baptist Church, Block Island, R.I.

Vincent L. Pisano

Vincent L. Pisano died on Thursday, May 6, 1999 at the Yale New Haven Hospital at the age of 72. He was the husband of Geneva R. Hartford Pisano and lived at 8 Hillside Circle in Brookfield.

Mr. Pisano was born in Yonkers, N.Y. on December 14, 1926, son of Vincent and Kathryn J. Darrow Pisano. He was educated in Yonkers and was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on submarines. Mr. Pisano was a truck driver for Kimberly-Clark in New Milford.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Teamsters Local #677 in Waterbury, Conn. He was a member of St. Marguerite Church.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Vincent C. Pisano of New Milford, Conn.; two daughters, Rosemary Galinski of Roxbury, Conn. and Kathryn Dillon of New Milford; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two half sisters, Roberta DeLea of Clinton, Conn. and Marion Murphy of Southington, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Marguerite Bougeoys Church in Brookfield. Burial will be in Central Cemetery in Brookfield.

Friends may call on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield.

Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Kathryn R. Hyatt

Kathryn R. Hyatt, age 93, widow of the late Charles Kenneth Hyatt and formerly of 69 Wolfpit Road, Norwalk, died at Wilton Meadows on May 5, 1999, where she had been a resident for two years.

A native of Norwalk, Mrs. Hyatt graduated from St. Mary School, Norwalk High School and Merrill Business College. She was a retired office manager of Heinbaugh Lumber Co. of Wilton. Always an active person, she had been a member of the Catholic Daughters, St. Philip's Women's Society and Notre Dame Guild, and was a former officer of Fairfield County Retired Persons and held positions of corresponding secretary, welfare and publicity for the AARP.

Mrs. Hyatt is survived by a son, Kenneth F. Hyatt of Norwalk; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Maryellen) Cheh of Bethel; four grandchildren, Heather (Hyatt) Carusone and Kenneth Hyatt Jr., both of Norwalk, Kevin Cheh of Oxford and Keith Cheh of New Fairfield; and four great-grandchildren, Michele and Peter Carusone of Norwalk and Adam and Kyle Cheh of Oxford. She was predeceased by her 4-year-old great-grandson, Michael Cheh of New Fairfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, 9 a.m., at St. Philip's Church, 1 Fr. Conlon Place, Norwalk. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk, Conn.

Nicholas A. Krusky

Nicholas Krusky, 95, a former resident of Bridgewater, Conn., died May 5, 1999 in Orlando, Fla. Mr. Krusky was predeceased by his wife Laura VanKuren Krusky and also predeceased by two daughters, Margaret Wadell and Marion Barker Fox. He is survived by his daughter, Helen Krusky Backman of Danbury, Conn.

Mr. Krusky was predeceased by three brothers, Stephen Krasky, John Krusky and Joseph Krusky, and also predeceased by three sisters, Margaret Hager, Rose Rusnak and Verna Fredlund. He is survived by two brothers, William Krusky of Bridgewater, Conn. and Andrew Krusky of Massachusetts.

Mr. Krusky is survived by his wife, Eleanor Kress Krusky, and her three children, Elizabeth Smith and Mary Whitford, both of Orlando, Fla., and Joseph Kress of North Carolina. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, located in Connecticut, Florida and Georgia.

Mr. Krusky was a lifetime member of the Bridgewater Fire Department and was a carpenter by trade.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, 11 a.m., at the Assembly of God Church, 2740 East Michigan St., Orlando, Fla. Burial will follow at the Highland Memorial Gardens in Apopka, Fla.

Arthur C. Beckwith

Arthur C. Beckwith, 68, of Danbury died on Wednesday, May 5, 1999 at Norwalk Hospital of leukemia.

Born in Stamford on November 3, 1930, he was the son of Mary C. McCormack Beckwith and the late J. Gates Beckwith.

He resided in Stamford most of his life, moving to Danbury in 1966. Mr. Beckwith was a retired machinist.

Survivors include his mother, Mary E. Beckwith of Stamford; his devoted friend, Donald D. Byrne of Danbury; two aunts, Doris M. Conway of Brewerton, N.Y. and Olive Beckwith of Norwich, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Helen McDonald and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends whom he treasured dearly. He was predeceased by a brother, James P. McDonald.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford. Sevices will begin at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Blaine A. Edele, pastor of the Union Memorial Church, Stamford, officiating. Interment will be at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Oaklawn Ave., Stamford, Conn.

Memorial donations may be made to Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association, 90 East Ridge, Ridgefield, CT 06897 or to the Leukemia Society of America Inc., 102 Kings Highway East, Fairfield,CT 06430.

Walter L. Cruthers

Walter L. Cruthers, 47, a lifelong Bethel resident, died Tuesday at his home. Mr. Cruthers lived at 13 Garella Road, Bethel.

He was born in Danbury, Oct. 28, 1951, a son of Frances (Knapp) Cruthers of Bethel and the late Earl Cruthers.

He was a 1970 graduate of Henry Abbott Technical School and he served in the Air Force, stateside, during the Vietnam War.

He was last employed as a shipping clerk for the former Call Center Solutions Company of Danbury.

Besides his mother, he is survived by a sister, Doreen Kinkade of Brookfield; his grandmother, Frances Knapp of Danbury; and his nephews, Matthew and Shawn Kinkade of Brookfield.

Funeral services will be held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, on Saturday from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Emma M. Buckley

Emma Marie (Pelletier) Buckley, 88, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., died this past weekend at home.

Mrs. Buckley was born in Montreal, Canada.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, William H. Buckley; four sons, Dr. Paul Buckley of Ottawa, Canada, Brian Buckley of Montreal, Ron Buckley of Danbury, Conn. and Terry Buckley of Hilton Head, S.C.; several grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services are private.
