NORTH EAST, Md. - John Carl Clendaniel of North East died from a traffic accident Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, on Md. 272, in North East. He was 49.
Mr. Clendaniel was born on Jan. 4, 1950, in Dover, Del.
He was a resident of Cecil County for 10 years, working as a maintainer for Amtrak in Lancaster, Pa. for 15 years.
Mr. Clendaniel was the local chairman for the Brotherhood of Railroad Signal Men 106, Lancaster, president of First State Figure Skating Club, Newark, Delaware.
He is survived by his wife, Lanette M. Clendaniel of North East; two sons, John Jason Clendaniel of Texas and Luke Christian Clendaniel of North East; three daughters, Abigail Marie Clendaniel of Frankford, and Eran Rachel Clendaniel and Sarah Beth Clendaniel, both of North East; parents, John and Rebecca Clendaniel and Gerald and Dorthy Foster, all of Dover; and a sister Nancy Reese of Sudlersville.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Sandy Cove Ministries, Chesapeake Auditorium, North East.

Richard Hewitt Barlow Sr., 88
BOWERS BEACH - Richard Hewitt Barlow died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, in Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 88.
Mr. Barlow was a plumber and pipefitter.
He was a member of the Kensington-Kadosh Commandary 54, Knights Templar-Jenkintown, Pa., and a member of the Sexton United Methodist Church in Bowers Beach, Delaware.
Mr. Barlow was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Forrest Barlow, in 1993.
He is survived by three sons, Richard Barlow Jr. of Philadelphia, James S. Barlow of Georgetown and Henry F. Barlow of Philadelphia; a sister, Anne E. Pfendner of Philadelphia, and eight grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

Warren Heywood, 89
DOVER - Warren Heywood of Dover, formerly of Bridgeton, N.J., died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, in his home. He was 89.
Mr. Heywood was born on Feb. 12, 1909, in Woodstown, N.J., the son of the late Joseph. and Lillian Heywood.
He graduated from Chester High and the Philadelphia Textile College with a textile chemist degree.
Mr. Heywood began his career as a textile chemist in the Aberfoyle Manufacturing Company, a dye company in Chester, Pa., later working at the Bridgeton Dye and Manufacturing Company, where he retired at the age of 72.
He was an avid walker.
Mr. Heywood was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bridgeton from 1950 to 1995 and had held offices of treasurer and trustee at the church for 20 years. He was a member of the Dover Presbyterian Church in Dover, moving here with his wife in 1995.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Heywood of Dover; two daughters, Carol Schiller of Dover and Elizabeth Lucchine of Aldan, Pa.; a son-in-law, Richard Schiller of Dover; four grandchildren, Richard Schiller Jr. of New Castle, Mary Beth Schwenke of Christiansburg, Va., Jennifer Schiller of Wilmington and R. Matthew Lucchine of Aldan; and five great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Barbara S. Moore, 92
CHESTEROWN, Md. - Barbara S. Moore of Chestertown died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in Magnolia Nursing Home, Chestertown. She was 92.
Mrs. Moore was born on Pemkole Indian reservation in Pequot, Conn., the daughter of the late George R. Spellman and Phoebe Jackson-Spellman.
She worked for Parkview Nursing Home in Newark, N.J. as a LPN, she had lived in Chestertown for more than 30 years.
Mrs. Moore was a past member of the Epicopal Church in Newark, N.J, and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Georgetown, Md. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther James Moore; a sister, Lucille Bower and a brother, Paul Spellman.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Asbury Cemetery, Georgetown, Maryland.

Janet O. Sparklin Moore, 71
FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Janet O. Sparklin Moore, of Federalsburg for the past five years, formerly of Milford, Del., died of cancer Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in Bayhealth Medical Center at Kent General in Dover. She was 71.
Mrs. Moore was a homemaker.
She enjoyed cooking, traveling, animals and taking care of her family.
Mrs. Moore was a member of Calvary Methodist Church, Milford.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Sparklin Sr. in 1977.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, John L. 'Jack' Moore of Federalsburg; two sons, Raymond H. Sparklin of Federalsburg and Robert Sparklin of Milford; a daughter, Bonnie K. Pike of Milford; a sister, Edith Jones of Milford; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

Ralph Plummer, 78
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Ralph Plummer of Chestertown died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, in Kent & Queen Anne's Hospital. He was 78.
Mr. Plummer was born in Townsend, Del., the son of the late George W. and Ada Austin Plummer.
He farmed locally from 1941 to 1961. He worked for the Kent County Government as its Liquor inspector, then for the State of Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation until his retirement in 1985.
Mr. Plummer enjoyed fox hunting in his younger days and always had a love for horses.
He was a charter member and past trustee of the Chestertown Elks Lodge. He was also active in local area politics. He was a member of Salem Methodist Church in Fairlee.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Smith Plummer; three sons, Ralph Plummer Jr. of Aberdeen, Landis Plummer of Bowie and Ronald Plummer of Chesapeake City; two brothers, George W. Plummer Jr. of Rehoboth Beach, Del., and Carl Plummer of Fairlee; a sister, Doris P. Ivins of Lakeland, Fla.; a granddaughter; five grandsons; one great-granddaughter and a great-grandson.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, where friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Chestertown Cemetery.

SEAFORD - Alberta Mae 'Bert' West died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in Nanticoke Hospital. She was 58
Mrs. West was born on August 4, 1940, in Bridgeville, the daughter of Majura Cannon Farrington of Baltimore, Md. and the late George F. Farrington.
She was retired from private nursing. Mrs. West was a member of St. John's A.M.E. Zion Church in Laurel.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her six children, Richard I. West Jr. and his wife, Gloria J. West of Seaford, Ty Wade West of Bridgeville, Charlotte A. West, Patricia M. West and Anthony L. West, all of Seaford and Eric E. West of Laurel; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Bankls and Mary Washington, both of Seaford; a brother, Alfred Stanley of Laurel and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, at St. John's A.M.E. Zion Church at Ross Point near Laurel, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. The Rev. Oris P. Fields will officiate.
Burial will be in St. John's A.M.E. Zion Cemetery, near Laurel.

Hertha L. Whitney, 92
DOVER - Hertha L. Whitney of Dover, and formerly of Wisconsin, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in her home. She was 92.
Mrs. Whitney was born July 6, 1906, in Birnamwood, Wis., the daughter of the late Herman and Minnie Leider.
She had worked as a machine operator at various factories, the last being the former Tiny Tot Manufacturing of Merrill, Wis.
Mrs. Whitney was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Whitney and a daughter, Josephine Owens.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Marion Koenig of Bull Shoals, Ark.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nell Weinke of Dover and Audrey Ann and William Parent of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a brother, Herman Leider of Whittenberg, Wis.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Bridget Montague, 93
DOVER - Bridget Montague of South Fairfield Drive, formerly of Ardsley, Pa., died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at Westminister Health Care Center, Dover. She was 93.
Mrs. Montague was born on Sept. 16, 1905 in Ireland, the daughter of the late John and Mary Jane Murphy.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Montague was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ardsley, Pa., and Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Montague, in 1974.
She is survived by a daughter, Catherine Marie Cusick of Dover and four grandchildren, Joseph Cusick of Jacksonville, Fla., Thomas Cusick of Anne Arbor, Mich., Catherine Cusick of Annapolis, Md. and Ann Craig of Colchester, Conn.

Robert J. Neal, 25
CLAYTON - Robert J. Neal of Clayton died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, near Cheswold. He was 25.
Mr. Neal was born on Oct. 5, 1973 in Dover, the son of Robert W. and Sandra Burris Neal of Clayton.
He worked as a credit manager for Rent-A-Center in Dover for the last two years.
Mr. Neal was preceded in death by a son, John R. Neal.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Aurora Aragon Neal; two sons, Darrien Jay Neal and Brandon Anthony Neal both at home; a daughter, Carien Darlene Neal at home; a brother, Greg Neal of Cheswold and his paternal grandparents, Alan and Margie Neal of Clayton.
