SELBYVILLE - Joseph A. Moore Sr. of Selbyville died of heart failure Thursday, April 16, 1998, upon arrival to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. He was 72.
Mr. Moore was born in Mangohick, Va., the son of the late George O. Moore and Virginia Reed Moore.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Moore was a retired truck driver and security guard.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Odette Moore, in 1993.
He is survived by a son, Joseph A. Moore Jr., and two daughters, Diane M. Short and Sharon Kaye, all of Millsboro; a brother, George O. Moore Jr. of Dagsboro; a sister, Helen Mae Mears of Frankford; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services in Frankford.

John H. Stachnick Jr., 81
HARRINGTON - John H. Stachnick Jr. of Harrington died as a result of a fall Thursday, April 16, 1998, in his home. He was 81.
Mr. Stachnick was born in 1916 in Edwardsville, Pa., the son of the late John Henry Stachnick and Marie Piasta Stachnick.
He was in the armed forces for three years.
Mr. Stachnick was a nurse for 55 years.
He was a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge and the Milford VFW.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Stachnick, in 1989.
He is survived by three sons, James of Stanhope, N.J., William of Montvale, N.J., and Raymond of Bridgeville; three daughters, Joyce Thomas Halitsky of Montvale, Frances Hardy of Bergenfield, N.J., and Patricia Boles of Doylestown, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Service will be at 1 p.m. today at the Fleischauer Funeral Home, Market Street, Greenwood.
Gertrude G. Marshall, 85
BRIDGEVILLE - Gertrude G. Marshall of Bridgeville died of a stroke Saturday, April 18, 1998, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 85.
Mrs. Marshall was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Marshall in 1991.
She is survived by two daughters, Darlene Martin of Bridgeville and Phyllis Stumbo of Indian Town, Fla.; one sister, Ollie Marshall of Ashland, Ky.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Service will be Thursday at Erwin-Dodson Funeral Home, Minford, Ohio.
Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery, Siloam, Ky.
Genevieve K. Palivoda, 82
MARSHALLTON - Genevieve K. Palivoda of Marshallton died of heart failure Friday, April 17, 1998, in Christiana Medical Center. She was 82.
Mrs. Palivoda was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Hedwigs Catholic Church; a member of St. Matthews Senior Center and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Polish American VFW in Browntown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Palivoda in 1995.
She is survived by a son, Edward 'Jack' Palivoda of Marshallton; two daughters, Bernice E. Nowicki of Dewey Beach and Justine P. Florczyk of Bethany Beach; a sister, Helen Lobozzo of New Castle; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Service and burial will be private.
Blanche M. Staats, 94
DOVER - Blanche M. Staats of Dover, formerly of Smyrna, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. She was 94.
Mrs. Staats was born in 1903, in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Morris Webb and Kate Wood Webb.
She was a seamstress at Dover Air Force Base for 15 years before retiring in 1971.
Mrs. Staats enjoyed gardening and sewing.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy L. Morton of Dover; two sisters, Elinor King of Georgetown and Clara Champlin of Dover; one grandson; two great-grandsons, and one great-great-grandson; she was also survived by several nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service 11 a.m. Tuesday in Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood Avenue, Smyrna.

Maria K. Petroske, 76
LEWES - Maria K. Petroske of Lewes died Saturday, April 18, 1998, in the Lewes Convalescent Center. She was 76.
Mrs. Petroske was born in 1922, in Neuburg, Germany, the daughter of the late Anton Selmaier and Augusta Zoll.
She was a member of St. Edmond's Catholic Church at King Charles and Laurel streets, Rehoboth Beach.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford S. Petroske, in 1984.
She is survived by two daughters, Frances Scutti and her husband, Thomas of Philadelphia, and Mary Ann Cooper of Beaverton, Ore.; one son, the Rev. Peter Petroske of Archdiocese of Detroit; two brothers, Hans Selmaier of Neuburg, and Franz Selmaier of Munich, Germany; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Ransom Church, Philadelphia, where Father Peter Patroske will officiate.
Friends may call from 7-9 pm. Tuesday at Fox Funeral Home, 7026 Castor Ave., Philadelphia.
Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia.

Henry P. Marshall Jr., 85
LEWES - Henry P. Marshall Jr. died Saturday, April 18, 1998, in the Lewes Convalescent Center. He had previously resided on Dewey Avenue in Lewes. He was 85.
Mr. Marshall was a graduate of Lewes High School and the University of Delaware.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Signal Corps on islands in the South Pacific.
Mr. Marshall was a retired assistant postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service in Lewes.
He was one of Lewes' leading historians. He was instrumental in the planning of many historical events, including the 325th and 350th anniversary celebrations which marked Lewes as Delaware's first settlement. He was an authority on maritime history and served as curator of the Cannonball House Museum of the Lewes Historical Society for many years. His knowledge of local history including the Delaware Bay lighthouses was unsurpassed. He willingly shared this knowledge with many local historians.
Mr. Marshall was honored as the Delaware Coast Press 'Personality of the Year, ' in 1961. He wrote a popular column for that newspaper entitled 'Coffee Break' in which he reminded residents of many historical and cultural facts of early Lewes life.
He was a member of the Lewes Post 17 of the American Legion; a former Master of the Jefferson Lodge A.F. & A.M. 15; an officer of the Lewes Chamber of Commerce; a member of the Bethel Methodist Church of Lewes, and a director of the Lewes Historical Society.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta L. Marshall in 1985.
He is survived by a sister, Sylvia M. Bonk of Wilmington, and nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Masonic service will be 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Bethel Methodist Cemetery, Lewes.

John U. Leventry Sr., 85
MELBOURNE, Fla. - John U. Leventry Sr. of Melbourne died Friday, April 10, 1998, in Melbourne. He was 85.
Mr. Leventry was born in 1913, in Johnstown, Pa., the oldest of seven children of the late Authur and Edith Leventry.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen I. Young Leventry in 1995.
He is survived by two sons, John U. Jr. of Churchton, Md., and Frederick Roy of Cape St. Claire, Md.; three grandchildren, Mrs. Rita Marie Boberge of Virginia Beach, Va., Roy Frederick and Robin Anne of Cape St. Claire; one sister, Louise Hogue of Johnstown, Pa.; twin brothers, William Leventry of Ephrate, Pa. and Robert Leventry of Myrtle Beach, N.C.; a brother, Frederick David of Fort Myers, Fla. and his friend, Christine Bomboy of Ocean City, Md.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro.
Burial will be in Bethel Mariner's Cemetery, Ocean View.

Woodrow W. Biles, 76
LABELLE, Fla. - Woodrow W. Biles of LaBelle, Fla., formerly of Milford, died Tuesday, April 14, 1998. He was 76.
Mr. Biles was a World War II veteran.
He was the maintenance supervisor of Conrail, retiring in 1981, after 37 years of service.
Mr. Biles enjoyed his retirement residing in Harborton, Va., and LaBelle.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Biles of LaBelle; a son, David M. of Greenwood; two daughters, Barbara Stevenson of Middletown and Linda Burrows of Felton; a stepdaughter, Pam Cissel of Fort Washington, Md., and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Episcopal Church, 200 Church St., Milford.
Burial will be private.

Jeanne K. McDonald, 80
HARRINGTON - Jeanne K. McDonald of Harrington died of cerebral hemorrhage Friday, April 17, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 80.
Mrs. McDonald was born in 1918, in Phillipsburg, N.J., the daughter of the late James F. and Clara Kelly.
She graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1935, and from the Easton, Pa., Hospital School of Nursing in 1939.
Mrs. McDonald was a registered nurse at Milford Memorial Hospital for 25 years. While at the hospital, she assisted with in-service training and became personnel officer. After her retirement in 1975, she helped establish the Harrington Public Library, and she was past president of the Friends of the Harrington Public Library.
She is survived by her husband, Harold J. McDonald; one son, James J. and his wife, Barbara of San Antonio; one daughter, Susan Sklaroff and her husband, Michael of Philadelphia; two brothers, Richard Kelly and James Kelly, both of Phillipsburg; five grandchildren, Sean and Kevin McDonald of San Antonio, Sara Sklaroff of Washington, D.C., Samuel and Miranda Sklaroff, both of Philadelphia.
There will be a graveside service with burial at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Henlopen Memorial Park, near Milton.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at McKnatt Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington.
