Albert K. Daniels Sr., 72

TOWNSEND - Albert K. Daniels Sr. of Townsend died Wednesday April 1, 1998, in the Christiana Hospital of an apparent heart attack. He was 72.

Mr. Daniels retired from Smith & Douglas Fertilizer Co. in Clayton.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth; four sons, Albert K. Jr. of Townsend, John of Dover, Nick of Clayton, and Jeff of Crumpton, Md.; five daughters, May Holleger of Felton, Rebecca Ross of Georgetown, Sally E. Missimer of Elkton, Md., Ida Simmons of Clayton and Margie Meekins of Chestertown, Md.; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Burial was in the Sharon Hills Cemetery, West Dover.

Mary Elizabeth Michelbach, 70

REHOBOTH - Mary Elizabeth Michelbach of Rehoboth died of cancer Thursday April 9, 1998, in Beebe Medical Center. She was 70.

Mrs. Michelbach was born in Exmore, Va., the daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth Driscoll.

She was partner in the management and ownership of Ken Michelbach's Television & Appliance Store in Alexandria, Va., for 35 years. After she closed the business, she started a second career as a medical technician for Dr. Apter and Dr. Morrissey in Arlington, Va., until her retirement.

Mrs. Michelbach was president of St. Stephen's School Mothers Club in the 1970's. She was active in the Country Club of Fairfax, and after retirement in the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. She was a member of the Village Improvement Association, Rehoboth Beach; her favorite hobby was ballroom dancing.

She is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth; her children, Candis and Daniel Ramelli of Chatham, N.J., Kenneth and Krystie Michelbach of Los Angeles, and two grandchildren, Alison and Christine Ramelli.

A memorial service will be at a later date.

Burial will be private.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to The Hope Lodge, c/o American Cancer Society, 636 W. Lexington St., Baltimore, MD, 21201, or Beebe Medical Center, Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.

Lawrence J. Nance, 59

GEORGETOWN - Lawrence J. Nance of Georgetown died of heart failure Monday April 6, 1998, in his home. He was 59.

Mr. Nance held different types of jobs at various places in the local community, including working for the Rusty Rudder, Holiday House, Townsend, and King Cole.

He loved cars, wresling, and he was a race car fan.

Mr. Nance is survived by a close friend, Arthur Warren of Georgetown and many friends from the local community.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fleischauer Funeral Home, West Market Street, Greenwood, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Carey Camp Cemetery, Millsboro.

Bryan Anthony Parker-Tunnell, infant

DOVER - Bryan Anthony Parker-Tunnell of Dover died of premature birth, Sunday April 5, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. He was an infant.

Bryan was born April 5, 1998, in Dover, the son of Alisha Parker of Dover and Brian Tunnell of Milford.

He is survived by his grandparents, Dorothy and Matthew Watkins of Felton and Harvey and Francis Tunnell of Milford, also Joseph Bostic of Wilmington.

Service will be at the graveside at 2 p.m. Saturday, where the Rev. Charles Smith will officiate.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Carmalee Kay Daniels, 47

BRIDGEVILLE - Carmalee Kay Daniels of Bridgeville died of cancer Friday April 10, 1998, in her home. She was 47.

Mrs. Daniels was born in Coffeyville, Kan. in 1951, the daughter of the late Wincle L. Twitchell and Floye Prater Twitchell.

She was a homemaker, a loving wife, and a great pastor's wife.

Mrs. Daniels was a member of the Bridgeville Church of God, where she was past president of the ladies ministry and was currently the vice president. She was also the Sunday School teacher for the children.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Rev. Harold Daniels; one brother, Gary Lee Twitchell of Norman, Okla.; three sisters, Rosa Lea Lewis of Coffeyville, Bonnie Jean Finney of Coffeyville and Phyllis Ann Hills of Moore, Okla.; many nephews and nieces and great-nephews and great-nieces.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Bridgeville Church of God, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Friends may also call from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Coffeyville, Kan.

The family suggests contributions be made to the Bridgeville Church of God Building Fund, R-2, Box 26A4, Bridgeville, DE 19933.

Virginia Lee Monroe Dennis, 78

DOVER - Virginia Lee Monroe Dennis of Dover died Thursday, April 9, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 78.

Mrs. Dennis was born in 1919, in Huntington, West Va., daughter of the late Lee Monroe and Carrie Stokes Monroe.

She graduated from Hampton Institute in Hampton, Va.; she earned a master's degree in physical education from New York University.

Mrs. Dennis was a long-time educator and civic leader. She began her career of teaching in Maryland at the then Maryland State College in Princess Anne, Md. She taught physical education at the then Delaware State College. She later taught at Central Middle School before retiring in 1981 from the Capital School District. In 1983, she was appointed Delaware State Elections Commissioner by Gov. Pete DuPont.

She was a member of the Kent General Hospital's Board of Directors; the University of Delaware's Board of Trustees; the Dover Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; the Archousae of the Beta Eta Boule' of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, and many other charitable and civic organizations. She was an organizer of the Delaware Contingent to the 1963 Civil Rights March on Washington, where the late Dr. Martin Luther King delivered his now famous, 'I Have a Dream' speech.

She was preceded in death by her sister, LaVerna Monroe Mitchell.

She is survived by her husband, Edward S. Dennis Sr., M.D.; four children, Edward S.G. Dennis Jr., Esq. of Media, Pa., Carolee Dennis Simmons of Silver Spring, Md., James I. Dennis of Dover, Lee M. Dennis, M.D. of Dover, four grandchildren, Jole' Simmons, Edward Brookfield Dennis, Tiffany Dennis and Timothy Dennis; one niece, Lynne Mitchell Heaggans; one nephew, William Horatio Jones III; one son-in-law, Earl F. Simmons; two daughter-in-laws, Lois J.Y. Dennis and Janette Dennis, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Whatcoat United Methodist Church, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Friends may also call from 6-7 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Jessie Marie Coleman, 51

DOVER - Jessie Marie Coleman of Dover died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in her home. She was 51.

Mrs. Coleman was born Aug. 27, 1947, in Bedford, Va., the daughter of the late Theodore and Cora Turner.

She had worked in the Dover Air Force Base commissary.

Mrs. Coleman was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church, Bedford.

Her hobbies included fishing, shopping, gardening and spending joyous free time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Bernard Coleman of Dover; a son, Bernard Calvin Coleman of San Clemente, Calif.; a daughter, Rhonda Yvette Coleman of Dover; six brothers, Curtis Turner of Evington, Va., Jack Turner of Leesburg, Fla., Onnie Turner of Evington, Robert Turner and Rufus Turner, both of Hampton, Va., and George Turner of Huddleston, Va.; three sisters, Rachye Bobbins of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Laura Alexander and Mamie Lee, both of Huddleston, Va.; and two grandchildren, Djavan Coleman of San Clemente and Malik Coleman-Hayes of Dover.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Shiloh Baptist Church, Bedford.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, Central Division, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.

Barbara F. Stein, 62

CAMDEN-WYOMING - Barbara F. Stein of Camden-Wyoming died Tuesday April 7, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. She was 62.

Mrs. Stein was a sorter for Playtex for 15 years, retiring in 1991.

She enjoyed being a grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. in 1996, and her son, James E. Stein.

She is survived by a son, Danny R. Stein of Camden-Wyoming; a daughter, Karen Page of Dover; a sister, Marie Clayton of Lubbock, Texas, and two grandchildren, Kristina Page of Dover and Colin James Stein of Camden-Wyoming.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Mary Jane Chadduck, 79

LAUREL - Mary Jane Chadduck of Laurel died of a heart attack Tuesday April 7, 1998, in her daughter's home. She was 79.

Mrs. Chadduck was born in Frankford, the daughter of the late Lemuel and Emma Hitchens Banks.

She was a member of the Laurel Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Williams.

She is survived by her second husband, Harry Chadduck; two daughters, Rose Fletcher of Millsboro and Terry Mills of Milford; two sons, Robert Williams and Preston Williams, both of Berlin, Md.; one brother, Henry Banks of Willards, Md.; one sister, Catherine Betts of Milton; 12 grandchildren.

Service and burial will be private.

Marvin S. Gilman, 76

BRANDYWINE HUNDRED - Marvin S. Gilman of Brandywine Hundred died Tuesday April 7, 1998, in Christiana Hospital. He was 76.

Mr. Gilman was president of Gilman Development Co., one of the largest home-building companies in the Wilmington area, and the recipient of the Josiah Marvel Cup.

He was an economist and lawyer who became a homebuilder more than 40 years ago. Since forming his company in 1983, he built hundreds of homes and apartments in Delaware and bordering states.

Mr. Gilman was a sponsor of Sutton Place, Baltimore's nationally acclaimed first high-rise residential redevelopment of the early 1960's, one of the first major real estate efforts that voluntarily welcomed tenants of all races.

He and his wife Muriel, former executive vice president of United Way, were the first husband and wife to be presented with the Josiah Marvel Cup Award in 1995, given by the State Chamber of Commerce to Delawareans who have performed exemplary service for the benefit of the community.

Mr. Gilman was chairman emeritus of the board of directors of the National Housing Conference, the nation's oldest nonprofit, bipartisan citizens' organization working to provide decent, affordable housing for all Americans. He was director of the National Committee Against Discrimination in Housing and the National Association of Home Builders.

He was former president and vice president of the Home Builders Association of Delaware. He served on the state Council of Housing and Community Development, the Health Resources Management Council and the New Castle County Board of License and Inspection Review.

Mr. Gilman was chairman of the board of trustees of the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust from 1983-1991.

He was an overseas housing consultant for the U.S. Department of State, and represented the Department of Housing and Urban Development at an international conference on housing policy in London.

Mr. Gilman was appointed to the board of trustees at the University of Delaware in 1995, where he was a professor emeritus in the College of Urban Affairs and Public Policy. He taught housing finance, land-use planning and administrative law for 18 years. He also lectured at other universities, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Yale Law School. The university established a graduate scholarship in housing and urban policy in his name.

In 1980, President Jimmy Carter named him a fourth successive term on the 15-member board of directors of Fannie Mae, the national mortgage association.

In 1981, Gov. Pete duPont honored him with the Distinguished Citizen Award of the state of Delaware. Other honors included the National Housing Conference Housing Man of the Year and its Crystal Eagle Award, the first Citizen Planner Award from the Delaware Chapter of the American Planning Association, and induction into the National Housing Hall of Fame in 1984.

He was a member of the News Journal's Community Advisory Board.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Muriel Edelstein Gilman; a son, Peter of Wynnewood, Pa.; a daughter, Martha Gilman Smith of Yorklyn, and six grandsons.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Arsht Hall, University of Delaware Wilmington campus, Pennsylvania Avenue.

Burial will be in Jewish Community Cemetery, Montefiore Section, Foulk Road.

The family suggests contributions be made to Marvin S. Gilman/National Housing Endowment Scholarship, c/o College of Human Resources, Education and Public Policy, University of Delaware, Newark, DE 19716.
