John D. Green Sr., 75

MILLSBORO - John D. Green Sr. of Millsboro died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 75.

Mr. Green was born Oct. 31, 1923, in Sewanee, Tenn., son of the late John McFarlane Green and Lethia Rhodes.

Mr. Green was a carpenter.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Green was a member of the VFW Georgetown post.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his companion, Kathryn (Kitty) Carmine, Jan. 7, 1999.

He is survived by three sons, John David Green of Fairhill, W. Michael Green of Redden and J. Dennis Green of Georgetown; a daughter, Linda Sue Green of Milford; two sisters, Geraldine Cantrell of Sewanee and Mamie Hawkersmith of Decherd, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 North Bedford St., Georgetown, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Lawrence Lilly will officiate.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association, Delaware chapter, 625 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901; or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803-0163.

Robert J. Neal, 25

CLAYTON - Robert J. Neal of Clayton died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, near Cheswold. He was 25.

Mr. Neal was born on Oct. 5, 1973 in Dover, the son of Robert W. and Sandra Burris Neal of Clayton.

He worked as a credit manager for Rent-A-Center in Dover for the last two years.

Mr. Neal was preceded in death by a son, John R. Neal.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Aurora Aragon Neal; two sons, Darrien Jay Neal and Brandon Anthony Neal both at home; a daughter, Carien Darlene Neal at home; a brother, Greg Neal of Cheswold and his paternal grandparents, Alan and Margie Neal of Clayton.

Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.

Shane C. Miller Jr., four months

MILLSBORO - Shane C. Miller Jr. of Millsboro died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in his home. He was four months old.

Shane was born Sept. 11, 1998, the son of Shane C. Miller Sr. and Cynthia N. Ross.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Kathy Ross of Millsboro; maternal great-grandparents, William and Mary Ann Scott of Inverness, Fla.; paternal grandparents, Gina Miller of Brighton, Mass., and Roland Mumford of Frankford; maternal great-grandparents, Joseph and Dorothy Ross of Coatesville, Pa.; paternal great-grandmother, Blanche Miller of Millsboro; paternal great-grandmother, Adelle Mumford of Frankford; and an uncle, Keenan Miller of Millsboro.

Service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Karen Booth will officiate.

Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Millsboro.

Donald G. Mitchell, 81

MILFORD - Donald G. Mitchell of Milford died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in Bayhealth Medical Center-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 81.

Mr. Mitchell was born Sept. 17, 1917, the son of the late Harry R. and Grace Robinson Mitchell of Appleton, Maine, and Wakefield, Mass.

He was a 1938 graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He served as a major in the U.S. Army under Gen. George Patton during the D-Day invasion of Normandy, and retired as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Army Reserve, Chemical Corps, in 1971 with 31 years of service.

He was a technical service manager for Baker's Chocolate/ General Foods, Dorchester, Mass., and Dover for 42 years, retiring in 1981.

He was an active member of the Mayflower Society, which supplies a history of the Mayflower and the traditions of Thanksgiving to every fifth-grade class in Delaware. Mr. Mitchell was a direct descendant of the Pilgrim Isaac Allerton.

The last remaining Pilgrim House, known as the Howland House, on Sandwich Street in Plymouth, Mass., was built by his distant grandfather, Jacob Mitchell, nine generations removed.

He was a past president of the Milford Rotary Club, a member of the Milford Rotary Club, a member of the Milford Memorial Hospital board of directors from 1971 until 1988 and a member of the Shawnee Country Club, where he was an avid golfer.

He was a friend of the First Presbyterian Church of Milford.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Norman L. Mitchell, in 1917.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Hall Mitchell; a son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Terri F. Mitchell of Milford; a daughter, Donna Briggs of Dover; a sister, Marion Minnick of Keene, N.H.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three nieces and nephews; as well as several cousins in Maine.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call 7-9 p.m., Monday.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Milford, P.O. Box 172, Milford, DE 19963.

Glennwood K. Pase Sr., 61

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - Glennwood K. Pase Sr., of Cherry Hill died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in JFK Hospital, Cherry Hill. He was 61.

Mr. Pase was born in Ellendale, Del., and moved to Cherry Hill over 20 years ago.

He attended Swarthmore College, receiving a bachelor's degree in English literature, and he attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, receiving his degree in mechanical engineering.

He served in the Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Army, Europe, in Heidelberg, Germany, during the Vietnam War era.

He was employed as the chief design engineer for the Joseph Oat Corp. in Camden and was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, contributing immensely to the global industry for years to come.

He had many published articles pertaining to his field.

Mr. Pase was the true definition of a gentleman and a scholar; he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his son, Glennwood K. Pase Jr. of Cherry Hill; a daughter, Francesca Amelia Pase of Easton, Pa.; five brothers, Clarence Pase of Milford, Del., Charlie Pase of La Luz, N.M., Golden Pase of Milford, Bob Pase of Havelock, N.C., and Walter Pase of Las Cruces, N.M.

The family will contact friends regarding his memorial service.

Kenneth Charles Pierce, 79

BEAR - Kenneth Charles Pierce of Bear died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in his home. He was 79.

Mr. Pierce was born May 27, 1919, in Cadillac, Mich., the son of the late Charles Pierce and Florence Kempster Pierce.

He was a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Pierce was the manager of the Wilmington office of Aetna Life and Casualty for 31 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of Peniel United Methodist Church, Newport.

Mr. Pierce enjoyed amateur radio. He had played semiprofessional baseball, and coached and managed for Little League.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Pauline W. Pierce, in 1980.

He is survived by a son, Kenneth C. Pierce Jr. of Newark; three daughters, Gail McMakin of Allentown, Pa., Vicki Peterson of Lewes and Lisa Fannin of Bear, with whom he lived; a brother, Merton D. Pierce of Arlington, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Peniel United Methodist Church, Newport.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 E. Justis St., Newport.

Burial will be at Gracelawn Cemetery, New Castle, immediately following the service.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Peniel United Methodist Church, 115 E. Market St., Newport, DE 19804; or to the Hospice of Delaware Valley, 431 S. Walnut St., Kennett Square, PA 19348.

T. Irene Ridgeway, 65

FAIRTON, N.J. - T. Irene Ridgeway of Fairton died, after a lengthy illness, Thursday, Jan. 14, 1998, in South Jersey Hospital System-Bridgeton. She was 65.

Mrs. Ridgeway was born in Smyrna, Del., the daughter of the late Preston Lee Crow Clark Sammons and Nellie Carney Sammons.

She had lived in Fairfield Township for 49 years.

Mrs. Ridgeway was a licensed practical nurse and, prior to retiring seven years ago, she had been employed at Bridgeton Hospital for more than 30 years. She also had practiced private-duty nursing in the Bridgeton area for several families.

She was a member of Colonial Riders Motorcycle and Camping Club and of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians. She attended Fairfield Presbyterian Church and, several years ago, had sung on WSNJ Radio on Sundays. She was an avid traveler.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Preston Sammons, and a sister, Betty White.

She is survived by her husband, Norman F. Ridgeway Sr.; a son, Norman F. Ridgeway Jr. of Smithville; three daughters, Irene E. MacMahan of Stow Creek Township, Norma L. Seeney of Hartly, Del., and Dawn M. Hughes of Rosenhayn; three brothers, William Sammons of New York, Benjamin Morgan of Houston and Jerold Morgan of Baltimore; three sisters, Della Lockman of Hopewell Township, Mary Jane Harris of Greenwich and Joanne Boulay of Worcester, Mass.; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a host of nephews and nieces.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Fairfield Presbyterian Church, Main Street, Fairton, with the Rev. Michael Schuelke officiating.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Padgett Funeral Home, Carll's Corner, Bridgeton; and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in the family mausoleum in Fernwood Memorial Park, Hopewell Township.

Hertha L. Whitney, 92

DOVER - Hertha L. Whitney of Dover, and formerly of Wisconsin, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in her home. She was 92.

Mrs. Whitney was born July 6, 1906, in Birnamwood, Wis., the daughter of the late Herman and Minnie Leider.

She had worked as a machine operator at various factories, the last being the former Tiny Tot Manufacturing of Merrill, Wis.

Mrs. Whitney was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Merrill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Whitney.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Marion Koenig of Bull Shoals, Ark.; two daughters and a son-in-law; Nell Weinke of Dover and Audrey Ann and William Parent of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a brother, Herman Leider of Whittenberg, Wis.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Service will be in Merrill.

Eliza 'Lib' Wilson, 80

WYOMING - Eliza 'Lib' Wilson of Wyoming died of natural causes Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in her home. She was 80.

Mrs. Wilson was born Jan. 8, 1919, in Baldwin, Ala., the daughter of the late John and Mary Nisley Schrock.

She was employed by Richardson & Robbins (now Underwood), formerly of Dover, and had formerly worked for Cooklin Milk Plant in Goldsboro, Md., until they closed.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Earl F. Wilson Jr.; a daughter, Gertrude Virginia Corkell of Canterbury; a stepdaughter, Mari Anne Jones of Magnolia; a sister, Millie Stewart of Alabama; two grandchildren, Nancy Jean Daniels of Clayton and Cathy Sue Rosetta of Dover; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a nephew, John Schrock of Pearsons Corner; and several other nephews and nieces.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home P.A., 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, Md., where friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Delaware Hospice Foundation, Kent County Office, Lotus Plaza, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 1990.

Bridget Montague, 93

DOVER - Bridget Montague of South Fairfield Drive, formerly of Ardsley, Pa., died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at Westminister Health Care Center, Dover. She was 93.

Mrs. Montague was born on Sept. 16, 1905 in Ireland, the daughter of the late John and Mary Jane Murphy.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Montague was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ardsley, Pa., and Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Montague, in 1974.

She is survived by a daughter, Catherine Marie Cusick of Dover and four grandchildren, Joseph Cusick of Jacksonville, Fla., Thomas Cusick of Anne Arbor, Mich., Catherine Cusick of Annapolis, Md. and Ann Craig of Colchester, Conn.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ardsley, Pa., where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham Township, Pa.

Instead of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made to Sisters of Notre Dame, 305 Cable Street, Baltimore, MD 21210.
