WILMINGTON - Katie Jane Hicks of Wilmington died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1999, in her home. She was 43.
Ms. Hicks was born April 15, 1955, in Cool Spring, the daughter of Katherine Fordham of Harbeson.
She was a certified nurse with an associate's and a bachelor's degree.
She was employed at the Delaware State Hospital and was well-known and active in her community.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Julian Collins, who is serving in the Gulf; a daughter, Tomica Collins of Wilmington; four sisters, Lillie Eley and Lisa Chandler, both of Milton, Vera Gill of Centreville, Md., and Verna Harmon of Pennsylvania; a brother, Eddie Collins of Gary, Ind.; three brothers-in-law, Felton Chandler, Lenwood Eley and Melvin Harmon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Service will be 8 p.m. Saturday at Congo Funeral Home, 24th and Market streets, Wilmington, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday in Riverview Cemetery, 3300 N. Market St., Wilmington.

Archie Holden Jr., 72
SEAFORD - Archie Holden Jr. of Seaford died of heart failure Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 72.
Mr. Holden was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Snow Hill, Md.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a retired cook at Hardley Restaurant.
Mr. Holden was a member of John Wesley U.M. Church in Seaford. He was an usher, member of the men's choir and served on the finance community.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Williams Holden.
He is survived by a daughter, Wanda Thompson of Seaford; a stepdaughter, Annette Holden of Seaford; a brother, Glen Holden of Connecticut; two sisters, Mabel Brown of Chester, Pa., and Gertrude Williams of Cambridge, Md.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a very special friend, Gladys Tull of Seaford.
Service will be noon Saturday at John Wesley U.M. Church, Seaford, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in Macedonia A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Seaford.
Helen Horvath, 87
HENDERSON, Md. - Helen Horvath of Henderson died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, in Kent General Hospital, Dover, Del. She was 87.
Mrs. Horvath was born Jan. 15, 1911, in Budapest, Hungary, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Wagenhoffer.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Horvath was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marydel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen W. Horvath, in 1994.
She is survived by two daughters, Helen C. Hadley and Stephanie Smail, both of Henderson; a sister, Katherine Garrett of Smyrna, Del.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Grover E. Hubble, 82
FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Grover E. Hubble of Federalsburg died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, while visiting his daughter in North East, Maryland. He was 82.
Mr. Hubble was born Nov. 28, 1916, in Bluefield, W.Va., the son of the late J. Graten and Easley Bailey Hubble.
He was a Tech 5 during World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in Northern France, the Ardennes, the Rhineland and Central Europe.
He had worked as a farm machinery mechanic for many years, working for Parker Brothers in Hurlock and, later, Tull Brothers in Seaford, Del.
Mr. Hubble was a member of Hurlock American Legion Post 243 in Hurlock.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and a sister.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Hazel Andrew Hubble of Federalsburg; a daughter, Verna Gay Hubble of North East; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at Frampton-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Federalsburg.

Forrest W. 'Bub' Kerlin, 72
BRIDGEVILLE - Forrest W. 'Bub' Kerlin of Bridgeville died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 72.
Mr. Kerlin was born Feb. 12, 1926, in Bordentown, N.J.
He had resided in that area most of his life before moving to Delaware in 1984.
He had retired as a lineman for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1975 with over 32 years of service.
Mr. Kerlin was an Army veteran, serving with the 1st Army, 1st Medical Battalion, as an ambulance driver in the European theater.
He is survived by his wife, Elma R. 'Kotz' Kerlin; three sisters, Ada Moscickis of Chicago, Emily DeCarlo of Trenton, N.J., and Shirley Collis of Hamilton Township, N.J.; several nieces and nephews; and many very special friends.
Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Huber Funeral Home, 517 Farnsworth Ave., Bordentown, where friends may call 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Columbus Cemetery.

William D. 'Billy' Lankford Sr., 63
FELTON - William D. 'Billy' Lankford Sr. of Felton died, after a long illness, Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in his home. He was 63.
Mr. Lankford liked country music, rigging things up, tinkering with cars, and participating in the Demolition Derby at the Delaware State Fair near Harrington. He also had a great love for his dog, Bullet.
He was known by other names, in addition to Billy, such as Wild Bill, Repo Man and Pabst Blue Ribbon Man.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia 'Patsy' Lankford, Feb. 10, 1998.
He is survived by five sons, William David Lankford Jr. of Lancaster, Pa., Earle Lankford, Robert Lankford Sr. and Richard Brown, all of Felton, and Thomas Lankford of Harrington; five daughters, Darlene Cropper of Bridgeville, Marlene Shields of Felton, Christine Wells of Federalsburg, Md., Juanita Brown of Lincoln and Trisha Tucker of Harrington; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his childhood nanny, Sara Turpin of Denton, Md.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Fleischauer Funeral Home, 48 W. Market St., Greenwood, where friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday.
Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
Roy Lewis, 88
DOVER - Roy Lewis of Dover died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, on North New Street, Dover. He was 88.
Mr. Lewis had worked for the Sanitation Department of Elsmere.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Charles Lewis and Susan Matilda Springer.
He is survived by three caregivers, Lisa Clough, Peggy Kenn and Janet Epperson, all of Dover.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gracelawn Cemetery and Chapel, where friends may call three-quarters of an hour before the service.
Burial will be in Gracelawn Cemetery following the service.

MARYDEL - Bessie E. Long of Marydel died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and William Ramsey, with whom she lived. She was 81.
Mrs. Long was born March 30, 1917, in Baltimore, Md., the daughter of the late John and Goldie Dcamp Pilker.
She was a homemaker. She enjoyed doing crafts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Long.
In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by a daughter, Janice Bowser of Brooklyn Park, Md.; a brother, Richard Pilker of Baltimore; two grandchildren, Cindy Oman of Salem, Mo., and David Bowersox of Baltimore; and five great-grandchildren.
Service and burial will be private.

Hans Frederick Marx, 83
LEWES - Hans Frederick Marx of Lewes died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, in his home. He was 83.
Mr. Marx was born Aug. 8, 1915, in Baltimore, the son of the late John Henry Marx and Emma Frieda Marx.
He was a press photographer; he worked for The (Baltimore) Sun, and then, after retiring, as a free-lancer. He was press photographer of the year for the United States; the only photographer to exhibit press photography as an art form for The Encyclopaedia Britannica; and the only photographer to have a one-man exhibit of 50 photographs in the Washington Art Gallery. He also received awards in Belgium, Luxembourg and Brazil. For years, The Sun ran an insert of photos taken by him in their editions.
Mr. Marx also did several magazine-type books for the U.S. Naval Institute Proceedings, produced two major booklets of history for the U.S. Merchant Marine's Tall Ships Race in conjunction with the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair; and took specialty photographs covering the building of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
He moved from Baltimore to Lewes in 1965.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Frieda Marx.
He is survived by a son, Hans Stephan Marx of Tacoma, Wash.; a daughter, Marlene Malcan of Midlothian, Va.; a sister, Ruth Frieda Kuck, also of Midlothian; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Atkins-Lodge Chapel of Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour before the service. The Rev. Edwin Thress, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Baltimore National Cemetery, Baltimore.

George L. McKee, 79
MIDDLETOWN - George L. McKee of Middletown died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 79.
Mr. McKee was born Oct. 24, 1919, in Drumwright, Okla., the son of the late George and Claire McKee.
He was a minister of Jehovah's Witnesses.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah McKee; a son, Robert McKee of Harrisburg, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Middletown.
