CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Lillian Hurley O'Neal of Cambridge died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, in Wicomico Nursing Home, Salisbury, Md. She was 79.
Mrs. O'Neal was born April 16, 1919, in Cambridge, the daughter of the late William Luther and Missle Todd Hurley.
She was raised in Cambridge.
She was a 1936 graduate of Cambridge High School.
For most of her life, she resided in Laurel, and was first married to Marion Henderson, who passed away in 1967. After his death, she married Marion O'Neal and, for many years, they operated O'Neal Produce Market on U.S. 13 in Laurel, Del. Mr. O'Neal passed away in 1995. For two years, she made her home in Cambridge prior to entering the Wicomico Nursing Home in December 1997.
In addition to her first and second husbands, she was preceded in death by five brothers, William L. Hurley Jr., Arthur Hurley, Donald L. Hurley, Frederick Hurley and Joseph E. Hurley.
She is survived by a sister, Martha Reynolds of Salisbury; three brothers, the Rev. Thomas W. Hurley of Salisbury, Leroy K. Hurley of Easton and Edward F. Hurley of Salem; a stepson, Nelson O'Neal; a sister-in-law, Helen Purcell; a devoted niece, Pat Jarvis, whom she and her first husband helped to raise; several step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. today at the Thomas Funeral Home, Cambridge, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Thomas W. Hurley and The Rev. J. Arthur Hurley will officiate.
Pallbearers will be members of Mrs. O'Neal's family.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Muriel R. Schoelkopf, 78
OCEAN VIEW - Muriel R. Schoelkopf of Ocean View, formerly of Timonium, Md., died after a brief illness Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, in her home. She was 78.
Mrs. Schoelkopf was a member and secretary of the Timonium United Methodist Church, Timonium, for many years. After relocating to Ocean View in 1983, she was an active member of Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church. She was a past president of the United Methodist Women. She was a charter member of ACTS (Atlantic Community Thrift Shop), which was developed in 1989 to help service the needs of the community, through the Southeast Sussex Ministerium. She served on the board of directors and was president in 1991 and 1992.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Therman Lewis Robinson; and a son, James Douglas Robinson.
She is survived by her second husband, Jack Schoelkopf of Ocean View; a daughter and son-in-law, Reba and Hal McVey of Schley, Va.; a son, Richard Robinson of Annapolis, Md.; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ken Libertini of Huntingtown, Md.; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Art and Janet Schoelkopf of Baltimore; and two daughters-in-law, Gretchen Conner of Berlin, Md., and Pamela Robinson Bradley of Quinton, Va.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church, where the Rev. Joseph Burris will officiate.

Ellen Smith, 65
FELTON - Ellen Smith of Felton died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 65.
Mrs. Smith was born in Frederica, the daughter of the late George and Alice Sherwood Rawding.
She was a nursing assistant at Genesis ElderCare Milford Manor, retiring in 1990. She also was a homemaker.
Mrs. Smith was very active in the community. She served as the vice president of the Community Fire Co. of Felton Ladies Auxiliary, was a member of the Frazier Homemakers Club and was involved with the V.C.F. Ruritan Club, Viola.
She enjoyed cooking and traveling.
Mrs. Smith attended Calvary Wesleyan Church, Harrington.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Robert Smith Sr.; a son, Robert Smith Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Bonnie Smith Maris and Rhonda K. Smith, both of Felton; two brothers, Leroy Rawding of Harrington and George Rawding of Felton; and four grandchildren, Chad Maris, Josh Smith and Staci Maris, all of Felton, and Robert Smith III of Jacksonville.
Service will be noon Saturday in the Chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Hopkins Cemetery, Felton.
Janet E. Smith, 63
MILFORD - Janet E. Smith of Milford died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, in Bayhealth Medical Center, Milford. She was 63.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing for community affairs and friends.
Mrs. Smith was a volunteer in the gift shop for Milford Memorial Hospital.
She was a life member of Blue Hen VFW Auxiliary 6483 of Milford, joining in 1975. She served two terms as president and until her death was senior vice president of the auxiliary, Conductress in District 3 and assistant guard in department. She was an active member of the auxiliary and held many other chairwomanships.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Smith, in 1990.
She is survived by her mother, Elsie Lambdin of Townsend; a son, Rodney McClain of Michigan; a stepson, William A. Smith Jr. of Alexandria, Va.; four sisters, Patricia Manning of Townsend, Mary F. Berner of Nottingham, Pa., Darlene Diferdiano of Parkesburg, Pa., and Beryl L. Keesy of Bryn Mawr, Pa.; and two step-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford.

Dorothy H. Stark, 85
DENTON, Md. - Dorothy H. Stark of Denton died of heart failure Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in her home. She was 85.
Mrs. Stark was born in Shamokin, Pa., the daughter of the late James Aloysius Whalen and Florence Beisel Whalen.
In the 1950s, she moved to Denton from Pennsylvania and had worked at the garment factory in Denton. Then, she was a clerk at the former Silco store in Denton; and, finally, she worked as a clerk at the Edgehill Pharmacy, retiring in 1975.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Stark, Oct. 8, 1998; and three sisters, Grace Whalen, Mildred Wilkens and Katherine Snyder.
She is survived by a son, James A. Stark of Denton; three daughters, Florence E. Petroski of Denton, Patricia Reichert of Newark, Del., and Jeanne Saathoff of Ridgely; two sisters, Jean Cells of Lyndhurst, N.J., and Florence Jablon of Washington, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 o'clock Monday at St. Elizabeth's Roman Catholic Church, First Street, Denton.
Friends may call from 10-10:45 a.m. Monday at Moore Funeral Home P.A., 12 S. Second St., Denton.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery near Denton.

Joseph E. Harris, 72
DOVER - Joseph 'Joe' E. Harris of Dover died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, in Christiana Hospital. He was 72.
Mr. Harris was born on Dec. 18, 1926, in Dover, the son of the late Elizabeth Harris Cabe and Alexander Harris.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years, receiving an honorable discharge.
He obtained his education from Booker T. Washington School and Delaware State College.
Mr. Harris was preceded in death by a brother, William Harris, and a sister, Mildred Saddler.
He is survived by three sons, Joseph Harris, Maurice Harris and Craig Harris, all of Dover; a daughter, Joann Griffen of Dover; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Harris of Dover; five sisters, Eva Bastic of Woodside, Anna Evans of Smyrna, Helen Gibson of Dover, Dorothy Cale of Germany and Frances Lewin of Dover; two bother-in-law, Lester Scott Woodside and David Lewin of Dover; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Union Missionary Baptist Church, Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be Wednesday in the Veterans Cemetery, Bear.

Ella Taylor, 76
MARION, Md. - Ella Taylor of Marion died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, in Salisbury. She was 76.
Mrs. Taylor was born on Oct. 8, 1927, in Crisfield, the daughter of the late Benny and Gertrude Briscoe.
She was educated in the Somerset County public schools.
She worked many years as a private sitter.
Mrs. Taylor was a lovely and friendly woman who loved people. She was dedicated to her church. She was proud of her husband 'lightening' and also her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by four daughters Delsie, Brenda, Elaine, all of Princess Anne and Mary Taylor of Crisfield; two sons, Arthur James Taylor of Salisbury and Ronald Lee Taylor of Bridgeport, Conn.; a devoted daughter-in-law, Frances Taylor of Salisbury; a devoted son-in-law, Albert Christopher of Princess Anne; two godsons, Carey Freeds of Marion and Frank Boston of Bridgeport; a goddaughter, Eunice Boston of Marion; a devoted niece, Ella Mack of Princess Anne; devoted friends, Hubbard and Loletha Armwood of Marion; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Emily Taylor of Crifield and Annie Taylor of Crisfield; and a host of nieces , nephews, cousins, and friends.
Service will be Tuesday at the Liberia Church, Marion, where friends may call at the church 7-9 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Marie Robinson Will officiate.
Burial will be in Liberia Church Cemetery, Marion.

Florence W. Durham, 84
WARWICK, Md. - Florence W. Durham, a nine-year resident of Warwick, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in Union Hospital, Elkton. She was 84.
Mrs. Durham was born on Oct. 18, 1914, in Chesapeake City, the daughter of the late Harry C. and Lenora Gonce Williams.
She was married to her husband at the age of 16; and they lived in rural Middletown, Del., for 36 years. They owned and operated their own farm.
She was a member of the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Warwick, where she was active with the WSCS, doing much craft work. She enjoyed crocheting and travel.
Mrs. Durham was preceded in death by her husband, Dudley B. Durham in 1986.
She is survived by a son, Dudley B. Durham Jr. of Marydel; two daughters, Bernice Hevelow of Cecilton and Ruth Austin of Warweick; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 West Cross St., Galena, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. William Humphrey will officiate.
Burial will be Asbury Cemetery, Millington.

John A. Behnke, 75
SMYRNA - John A. Behnke of Smyrna died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in his home. He was 75.
Mr Behnke was born on June 17, 1923m in Keil, Germany.
He moved to Philadelphia, where he was a truck driver for Germantown Storage for several Years before retiring due to disability.
He is survived by his companion, Neva I. Masten, with whom he lived.
