Ella S. Butcher, 86

DOVER - Ella S. Butcher of Smyrna died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, in Silver Lake Center of Genesis ElderCare, Dover. She awas 86.

Ms. Butcher was born July 20, 1912, the daughter of the late William and Irene Sullivan.

She worked as a factory worker.

Ms. Butcher was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church, Smyrna. She was Mother of the Church and a member of the church usher board.

She is survived by a son, Norman Watson Jr. of Clayton; a daughter, Elaine Tate Garry of Gary, Ind.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 12 noon Saturday at the Bethel A.M.E. Church, Smyrna, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. The Rev. Walter Dixon will officiate.

Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Peggy Juanita Wilson Blake, 60

WORTON, Md. - Peggy Juanita Wilson Blake of Worton, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, in Kent & Queen Ann's Hospital, Chestertown. She was 60.

Mrs. Blake was born Dec. 23, 1938, in Butlertown, the daughter of the late James and Mable Wilson.

After her mother's untimely death, she was raised by an aunt, the late Harriett L. Hynson of Worton Point.

She was a graduate of the Henry Highland Garnett High School and the Chesapeake College, School of Nursing Assistant.

She was a licensed lay speaker by the Peninsula Delaware Conference at St. George's United Methodist Church, where she served faithfully in almost every capacity. She was a member of the New Gospelites, the United Methodist Women, the Kent County Arts Council and the Mass Choir of Still Pond Coleman Charge.

Mrs. Blake was preceded in death by her son, Gary L. Hynson.

She is survived by her husband, Horace Blake; a daughter, Carla Louise Hynson of Baltimore; a stepson, Leon C. Hynson of New Castle, Del.; a stepdaughter-in-law, Janette Hynson of New Castle; two sisters, Evelyn Seth of Butlertown and Irene Moore of Georgetown; three brothers, William Wilson of East Orange, N.J., Oscar Wilson of Boston, Mass., and Philip Wilson of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers-in-law, Hammond Seth and Robert Moore of Maryland; two grandchildren, Tony and Janai Hynson of New Castle; a newly adopted special son, Minister Ryan Brown; and a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces, other family and friends.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. George's U.M. Church, Worton, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. The Rev. Barbara Loper-Johnson will officiate.

Burial will be in St. George's Church Cemetery, Worton.

Donald L. Brady, 50

FELTON - Donald L. Brady of Felton died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, in his home. He was 50.

Mr. Brady was born in Cumberland, Md., the son of the late Helen L. Landis.

He ran Brady's Lawn Service in Smyrna. He also worked for Smyrna Hardware for many years.

Mr. Brady enjoyed fishing, camping and going to auctions.

He is survived by his wife, June L. Brady of Felton; a daughter, Rose L. Marker; two sisters, Anna L. Spaer of Clayton and Jean Bowers of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two grandchildren; and several nephews, nieces and in-laws.

Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. Du Pont Highway, Harrington, with the Rev. Kenneth Huffman officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home three hours prior to the service.

Burial will be private.

David Jerome Brummell Jr., 43

SEAFORD - David Jerome Brummell Jr. of Seaford died of heart failure Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, in Beebe Hospital, Lewes. He was 43.

Mr. Brummell was born Feb. 28, 1955, in Milford, the son of David J. Brummell Sr. of Federalsburg, Md., and Mary Jane Brummell of Bridgeville.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1973-1991, and, thereafter, was a member of the Army Reserve's 946th Transportation Co., Lewes.

Mr. Brummell was a cook at Bob Evans Restaurant, and also was a cook at Grotto Pizza, Rehoboth Beach.

He was a member of Mount Calvary U.M. Church, Bridgeville.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Terrance Brummell of Seaford; three sons, David J. Brummell III and Shawn Brummell, both of Seaford, and Lamar Tann of Wilmington; a daughter, Crystal Brummell of Seaford; two brothers, Maurice Brummell and Michael Brummell, both of Bear; two sisters, Alice Brummell and Marilyn Brummell Burbage, both of Bridgeville; a grandfather, Vincent Carey of San Antonio, Texas; five brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; and a host of nephews and nieces.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Cathedral Hall of Faith Church, Concord.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Mount Calvary U.M. Church, Bridgeville.

Ellery L. Chase, 64

DOVER - Ellery L. Chase of Dover died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 64.

Mr. Chase was born Oct. 2, 1934, the son of the late George Henry and Ella Mae Henmon Chase, Laurel. He was the seventh of 11 children.

He was educated in the Laurel school system.

He spent a total of four years in the Army, two years on active duty and two years in the reserves.

He was a Civil Service worker for Dover Air Force Base and an employee of the City of Dover until his illness.

Mr. Chase loved to play his guitar and sing and go fishing with his friends, and was an easygoing and kind-hearted person.

He had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior.

He is survived by a daughter, Judy Poindexter of Wilmington; a son, Arron Snead of Boston; two bothers, Jennings L. Chase and Freeman H. Chase, both of Dover; a sister, Enith Chase Williamson of Dover; four grandchildren; an ex-brother-law, James Lee Beckett of Laurel; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 West Division St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Harvey W. Coverdale Jr., 69

LINCOLN - Harvey W. Coverdale Jr. of Lincoln died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, in his home. He was 69.

Mr. Coverdale was a veteran of the Korean War.

He had worked at L.D. Caulk, Milford, in the printing department for 45 years, and was a supervisor for the latter part of his career there.

Mr. Coverdale was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6984, Milton; a member of American Legion Post 7, Harrington; a member of Elks Lodge 2401, Milford; a member of Moose Lodge 534, Harrington; and a Moose Legionnaire of Legion 186.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helena Donovan Coverdale; his mother, Beatrice Adkins Coverdale of Milford; a son, John H. Coverdale of Ellendale; a daughter, Connie deYoung of Dover; a sister, Lorraine Slaughter of Milford; and two grandsons, Jason deYoung and Jared deYoung, both of Dover.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, where friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

Ruby Eileen Doss, 78

GEORGETOWN - Ruby Eileen Doss of Georgetown, formerly of West Virginia, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, in her home. She was 78.

Mrs. Doss was born in Lundale, W.V., the daughter of the late Lon and Marilyn Davis Christian.

She was employed for many years at the former NCR facility in Millsboro, assembling computer components, and had retired several years ago.

Mrs. Doss was a seamstress, and enjoyed people.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Georgetown.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer K. Doss, in 1976.

She is survived by two sons, Lonnie K. Doss of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Robin K. Doss of Berlin, Md.; a daughter, Shirley Bradley of Gordon, W.Va.; two brothers, Richard Christian of Madona, Ohio, and Jackie Christian of Prichard, W.Va.; two sisters, Betty Sizemore and Lucy Wright, both of Prichard; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Service will be 5 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Memory Gardens, Low Gap, W.Va.

Frances V. Foraker, 76

FORT WHITE, Fla. - Frances V. Foraker of Fort White, formerly of Milford, Del., died Sunday Dec. 27, 1998, in her home. She was 76.

Mrs. Foraker was a nurse cadet before her graduation in 1945, in anticipation of joining the Army as a lieutenant, but World War II ended before her graduation. She went into regular nursing.

She had been a night supervisor for 35 years with Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford.

She was a member and communicant of St. Madeline Catholic Church, High Springs.

Mrs. Foraker was preceded in death by her husband, Heartie J. Foraker; and by her son, John F. Foraker.

She is survived by two sisters, Dorthy A. Henrion of Fort White and Gwen Roman of Newark, Del.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

Walter H. 'Naughty' Hadaway III, 74

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Walter H. ''Naughty'' Hadaway III died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, in Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 74.

Mr. Hadaway was born in Kent County, the son of the late Walter H. Hadaway Jr. and the late Nannie Newcomb Hadaway.

He graduated from Rock Hall High School.

Mr. Hadaway worked as a dairy farmer for many years. He also worked for David A. Bramble Inc. as a truck driver, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Rock Hall; a life member of the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Co. and the fire company's auxiliary, and a fire-company dispatcher for many years; and a member of the Holstein Association during his time as a dairy farmer. Spending time at the fire station and serving as a volunteer fire dispatcher were his main interests during his retirement years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Walls Hadaway, in 1989; and a sister, Anna Thompson, in February 1998.

He is survived by two stepdaughters, Cathy Fisher and Darlene Tushey, both of Laurenceburg, Tenn.; three sisters, Marie VanSant of Rock Hall and Caroline Bryden and Ida Mae Dulin, both of Chestertown; and five stepgrandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where relatives and friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Rock Hall.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Kidney Foundation, 1107 Kenilworth Drive, Suite 202, Baltimore, MD 21204; or to Wesley Chapel Cemetery Fun, Rock Hall, MD 21661.

Josephine P. Stidham Kain, 87

GALENA, Md. - Josephine P. Stidham Kain of Galena died of heart failure Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, in Kent & Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. She was 87.

Mrs. Kain was born near Galena, the daughter of the late Alex and Sarah Newnam Powell.

She worked as a clerk for several years, leaving in 1980.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chestertown Lodge.

Mrs. Kain enjoyed flowers and working in her garden. She loved her family and friends, and the special times they shared together.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey Stidham; in 1976; a brother, William ''Pete'' Powell; and a sister, Sara Mullinix.

She is survived by her second husband, William Kain; three sisters, Adelaide ''Boots'' Ernest of Cecilton, Katherine Montague of Galena and Jean Greene of Costa Mesa, Calif.; and several nephews and nieces.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Sunday in the Galena Cemetery, Galena.
