SELBYVILLE - Jerry D. Tingle of Selbyville died of cancer Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 64.
Mr. Tingle was born in Salisbury, Md., the son of the late Edward Tingle and Roxie Wilkerson Tingle.
He worked as a welder for the Tingle Sheet Metal Company.
He is survived by a daughter, Denise Tingle of Princess Anne; two sisters, Harriet L. Morris of Selbyville and Gloria Jean Hudson of Roxana; three brothers, E. Bert Tingle and Dennis R. Tingle, both of Selbyville and Edward Tingle Jr., of Princess Anne.
Services will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Thatcher Street, Frankford, where friends may call one hour prior to service. The Rev. Dale Vroman will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Berlin, Md.
Vera Collins Sproat, 97
PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Vera Collins Sproat of Park Ridge died after a massive stroke Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, in Chicago. She was 97.
Mrs. Sproat was born Oct. 22, 1901, in Monte Vista, Colo.,
She lived most of her life in Idaho.
Shortly after her marriage to the late William R. (Rex) Sproat on May 29, 1923, they moved to the Chenofsky Sheep Ranch on Unalaska Island in the Aleutian Islands. They returned to Idaho nine years later.
She was Past Noble Grand of the Ada Rebekah Lodge 80 in Boise, the Rose Rebekah Lodge 18 in Idaho City and a member of the Columbian Club and past president of the Parliamentarians.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Sproat, whom died as an infant.
She is survived by Rexene A. and Richard L. Ornauer of Dover; Margaret Sproat Hoover and J. Michael Hoover of Park Ridge, Ill., with whom she lived for 18 years,; seven grandchildren, T. Philip Ashford III of West Plam Beach, Fla., Mary A. and Kevin Collier of Encinitas, Calif., Ann A. and Fred K. Menor of Lake Worth, Fla., William R. (Bim) and Laurie Ashford of Cherry Valley, N.Y., Jean A. and Dale Salisbury of West Palm Beach, Katherine H. Horning of Naperville, Ill., Rebecca Hoover of Chicago and 15 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, in the Collins family area of Kohlerlawn Cemetery at Nampa, Idaho. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at the Summers Funeral Home, Boise.

George H. Bryan, 100
FAIRMONT - George H. Bryan of Fairmont died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, in his home. He was 100.
Mr. Bryan was born July 6, 1898, in Fairmont.
He farmed many years ago with his father. He owned and operated an auto repair shop in Lewes until his retirement in the middle '60s. He also owned and operated the Bayview Inn on Lewes Beach which is currently known as Kupchicke.
He was a member of the Conleys Chapel Methodist Church, Route 277, Angola, and a charter member of the Lewes Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Bryan.
He is survived by two sisters, Beulah Reed and Bertie Pepper, both of Milton; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Randy Booth will officiate.
Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.

Robert J. 'Bob' Donaway, 70
MILLSBORO - Robert J. 'Bob' Donaway of Millsboro died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 70.
Mr. Donaway was born in Dagsboro, the son of the late Walter and Edith Lawson Donaway.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, where he received three Bronze Stars.
He was employed by Millsboro Auto Mart, Millsboro, and as a bartender at the Selbyville Elks Lodge, Selbyville.
Mr. Donaway was a member of the Selbyville Elks Lodge, Oak Orchard-Riverdale American Legion Post 28 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7422 in Millsboro.
He is survived by a brother, Wendell L. Donaway of Harrington; a very close friend, Amanda Steen of Dagsboro, and four nephews.
Graveside memorial service will be 11 a.m. Sunday at the Dagsboro Redmen's Memorial Cemetery, Dagsboro, conducted by the Selbyville Elks Lodge.

Albert Gayle, 80
LAUREL - Albert Gayle of Laurel died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, in Lofland LifeCare Center, Seaford. He was 80.
Mr. Gayle was born Dec. 25, 1917, in Laurel, the son of the late James and Gertrude Accourth Gayle.
He was a World War II veteran serving in the 3028th Army Air Force Unit.
He worked for many years at the Walter Horsey Gas Station, in Laurel, and had worked for Community Action in Georgetown.
He is survived by a sister, Mattie Duncan of Laurel.
Service will be 8 p.m. Monday at the St. John's A.M.E. Zion Church near Laurel, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. The Rev. Oris P. Fields will officiate.
Burial will be noon Tuesday in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Charles Lee, 79
MARYDEL - Charles Lee of Marydel died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 79.
Mr. Lee was born Jan. 29, 1919, the son of the late Pearlie Mae Barrs and Gary Lee.
He was a heavy equipment operator in the Delaware area for many years working for many construction companies.
He owned and operated Lee Inc. in 1970.
Mr. Lee enjoyed hunting, fishing and many outdoor activities.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Josephine Blunt Lee of Marydel; a son, Jack Lee of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Betty Hoewischer and Dorothy Watson, both of Jacksonville; a sister, Alice Johnson of Brunswick, Ga.; six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
Jean Elizabeth Clyde Smith, 73
GEORGETOWN - Jean Elizabeth Clyde Smith of Georgetown died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 73.
Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 27, 1925, in Long Island, N.Y., the daughter of the late William and Regina Lelander Clyde.
She worked as a nurse's aide at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, for 18 years, retiring in 1984.
She is survived by her husband, Hiram Evan Smith Sr.; four sons, John Truitt, Keith Truitt and Wheat Truitt, all of Georgetown, and Paul Truitt of Dulles, Ga.; a stepson, Bruce Smith of Seaford; two daughters, Susan J. Cannon of Bridgeville and Judy Baker of Georgetown; a stepdaughter, Diane Revelle of Seaford; a sister, Harriet McLlvain of Milford; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Seaford.
Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Summit Road, New Castle.
Ida Lee Taylor, 87
Stevensville, Md. - Ida Lee Taylor of Stevensville died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, in Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Denton. She was 87.
Mrs. Taylor was born on Feb. 14, 1911, in Hughsville, the daughter of the late Alonzo and Ella Costello Fleming.
She married Charles Christ of Maryland; after his death in 1967, she married Harry Taylor in 1969. They resided in Prince George's County. After Mr. Taylor's death, she lived with her sister Elsie. In 1993, Mrs. Taylor moved to Stevensville to live with her niece.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Christ Sickle of West Virginia; four sisters, Mary Ellen Beall and Gertrude Foster, both of Stevensville, May Robinson, of Ocean City, and Elsie Roberts of Berlin; a niece and her husband, Cecilia and Paul Lippold, whom she lived with; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Service was held privately by the family.

DOVER - Steele A.K. Carroll of Dover died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 10 months old.
He was born on Feb. 26, 1998, in Misawa, Japan, the son of Jerry A. and Kaori Carroll.
Friends may call 1-3 p.m. Monday at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.

Naomi Brown Christy, 78
SASSAFRAS, Md. - Naomi Brown Christy of Sassafras, Md., died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, in Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. She was 78.
Mrs. Christy was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Ridge Spring, S.C., the daughter of the late Joseph and Mamie Cauley Brown.
She was a housewife, raising seven children.
Mrs. Christy was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, Sassafras.
She enjoyed paper-hanging, writing poetry, working with wood and upholstery work.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Brown; and a sister, Earlene Brown.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Elzie 'Junior' Christy Sr.; two sons, Cornelius Christy of Sassafras and Elzie Christy Jr. of Elkton; five daughters, Marjorie Rowe and Elsie Christy, both of Sassafras, Geneva Young of Warwick, Gladys Brooks of Coleman and Sandra Garnett of Newark, Del.; three sons-in-law, Melvin Rowe, Robert Young and Gregory Brooks Sr.; 28 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at John Wesley United Methodist Church, Sassafras, with the Rev. Alice Hutchins officiating.
Friends may call at the church two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in John Wesley Cemetery.
