LEWES - Frank Gruwell of Lewes, formerly of Springfield, Pa., died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1998, in his home. He was 94.
Mr. Gruwell was born Oct. 4, 1904, in Felton, the son of the late Harry Gruwell and Elizabeth Gruwell.
He was a self-employed grocer. He operated a grocery store for 50 years before moving to Delaware. He formerly operated a roadside produce market and a wholesale egg business in Springfield.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Grace Donovan Gruwell; three sons, C. Frank Gruwell of Lewes, Norman Gruwell of Wallingford, Pa., and John Gruwell of San Francisco; and a daughter, Barbara Washburn of Birmingham, Ala.
Service will be 11:00 a.m. today at Parsell Funeral Home & Crematorium, Atkins Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood.
Flowers are acceptable.
Isabel Chandler Gum, 84
DAGSBORO - Isabel Chandler Gum of Dagsboro, formerly of Frankford, died of pulmonary failure Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, in Genesis Salisbury Center nursing home, Salisbury, Md. She was 84.
Mrs. Gum was the store manager for Smith's Apparel clothing store in Fenwick Island, until her retirement.
She was a member of the Frankford Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis M. 'Babe' Gum III, in 1995.
She is survived by a son, Frank M. Gum of Delmar; a daughter, Carol G. Chapman of Winchester Va. and four grandchildren, Lisa Chapman, Andrew Chapman, Rachael Gum and Rebecca Gum.
Service was Monday at The Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Frankford. The Rev. Kerry Shull officiated.
Burial was in Col. Armwell Long Cemetery, near Frankford.

Jean Harris, 79
LONG NECK - Jean Harris of Long Neck, formerly of Long Island, N.Y., died of heart failure Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 79.
Mrs. Harris was born in Birkenhead, England.
She was a retired aide at Boces Vocational School in Long Island.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, William G. Harris; two daughters, Lynne Bauer of Burke, Va., and Wendy Joan Ascenzo of Haskell, N.J.; and four grandchildren.
Service was held Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck.
Burial was private.

Anna Lee McCusker, 53
DOVER - Anna Lee McCusker of Dover died of injuries sustained in an automobile accident Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, in Pennsylvania. She was 53.
Ms. McCusker was born April 25, 1945, the daughter of Wendell E. Swain of Hagerstown, Md., and the late Florence Leader Swain.
She was a homemaker.
Ms. McCusker was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Dover and the Delaware Choral Society. She also did volunteer work for the Dover Air Force Base pharmacy.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her stepmother, Maxine Swain of Hagerstown; two sons, Michael McCusker of Felton and Kevin McCusker of Dover; a daughter, Teresa McCusker of Glen Allen, Va.; two brothers, E. Eugene Swain of Hagerstown and David Swain of Greencastle, Pa.; and a sister, Janet K. Golden of Cumberland, Md.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church of Dover, 54 S. State St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Old Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Dover.

Emory H. Miles, 74
CENTREVILLE, Md. - Emory H. Miles of Centreville died, after a long illness, Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, in his home. He was 74.
Mr. Miles was born on May 8, 1924, in Centreville, son of the late George Frank and Hatty McMullen Miles.
He graduated from the Centreville High School.
He farmed in the Queen Anne's County. He then began a career as a truck driver for the Queen Anne's Road Board until retiring.
He was married to the late Mary Woodrow White of Centreville. On March 20, 1971, he married Betty June Williams of Fort Howard.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Richard G. Bauer; and two sisters, Hilda Hawkins and Naomi Stevenson.
In addition to his second wife of 27 years, he is survived by a son, Jack Miles of Centreville; a daughter, Angie Robertson of Elkton; two stepsons, Frederick J. Bauer of Easton and Thomas D. Bauer of Centreville; a stepdaughter, Jaclyn Horney of Easton; a brother, Paul Miles of Centreville; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. today at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 408 South Liberty St., Centreville, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton.

Arthur P. Moore, 77
GEORGETOWN - Arthur P. Moore of Georgetown died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, in his home. He was 77.
Mr. Moore was born near Georgetown, the son of the late George T. and Ella Warrington Moore.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
He was a retired farmer.
Mr. Moore attended the Blackwater Fellowship in Roxana.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Myrtle Bowden Moore; two sons, Clinton D. Moore of Georgetown and Clifford R. Moore of Delmar; two brothers, Rowland Moore of Ellendale and Raymond Moore of Florida; five grandchildren: and three great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. James Langrall will officiate.

Jane Hollingsworth Voshell, 85
CENTREVILLE, Md. - Jane Hollingsworth Voshell of Centreville died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, in Corsica Hills Center of Genesis Eldercare, Centreville. She was 85.
Mrs. Voshell was born May 4, 1913, in Centreville, the daughter of the late George and Margaret Moore Hollingsworth.
She attended school in Queen Anne's County.
Mrs. Voshell married Edward A. Voshell of Centreville in 1932. They continued to live in the Centreville area.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Voshell was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Church Hill.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in the late 1960s; and by a son, Edward A. Voshell Jr., in 1976.
She is surived by two daughters, Kathryn V. Copoulos and Evelyn V. Kilmon, both of Wilmington, Del.; two sisters, Mary Cohey of Queenstown and Madge Behrens of Cordova; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Centreville.

Margaret Lamontte Harmon Warrington, 85
NEWARK - Margaret Lamontte Harmon Warrington of Newark died of complications of a stroke Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, in Churchman Village. She was 85.
Mrs. Warrington was born on Aug. 12, 1913, in Frankford.
She was trained as a nurse and massage therapist at Rudemar College, Philadelphia.
She was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, Cooch's Bridge Chapter for 53 years, a member of the Women's Society of Newark United Methodist Church and Mrs. Wilson's Bible class, member of AARP and Retired Senior Volunteer Organization.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Warrington, in 1962; and a son, Richard M. Warrington, in 1995.
She is survived by a daughter, Francis W. Kaye of Newark; a daughter-in-law, Shirley P. Warrington of Newark; three grandchildren, John Theodore Kaye, Richard Warrington Jr., Tracey Warrington Sweetman; three great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kaitlyn and Courtney Sweetman; a niece, Jean Harmon of St. Georges; a nephew, Jack Harmon of St. Georges; best friends, Agnes Rahn and Sarah Stamatoff of Newark; and longtime friends Don and Dona Fieldhouse of North East, Md.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at Newark Methodist Church, 69 East Main St., Newark, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Clifford A. Armour will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Georges UMC Cemetery, Clarksville.

HOUSTON - Irene 'Patsy' Watkins of Houston died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was 61.
Mrs. Watkins was born in Dry Fork, W.Va., daughter of the late Garnet W. and Susan M. Roy Wilfong.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Watkins enjoyed crocheting and making Christmas wreaths.
She was a giving, loving wife and mother, who enjoyed her family.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, James C. Watkins; three sons, James G. Watkins, Ricky C. Watkins and Robert D. Watkins, all of Houston; three daughters, Doris A. Warren, Christine Watkins and Pamela Watkins, all of Houston; four brothers, Harry 'Bus' Wilfong of Lake City, Mich., Walter Wilfong of Bruceton, W.Va., and Richard Wilfong and Keith Wilfong, both of Harmon, W.Va.; three sisters, Geraldine Pennington of Dry Fork,Shirley Simmons of Salem, Ohio, and Violet Smith of Middle Bourne, W.Va.; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford.

Ethel Beatrice Hicks Stevens, 92
PHILADELPHIA - Ethel Beatrice Hicks Stevens of Philadelphia died, after a long illness, Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, in Presbyterian Hospital, Philadelphia. She was 92.
Mrs. Stevens was born Aug. 6, 1906, in Marydel, Del., the daughter of the late Mary and Matthias Hicks.
She was educated in the Delaware school system and attended night school in New York. She completed a home-study course in practical nursing and a sewing course after 1955, in Philadelphia.
She enjoyed working and held various jobs in domestic and factory work and as a companion to the sick and shut-in.
Mrs. Stevens was always a strong force in her family; for many years, her home was known as the gathering place for holiday festivities. She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She will be remembered for her compassion, great sense of humor and quick wit.
She was creative in arts and crafts, ceramics being her specialty, sharing them with friends and family. She also enjoyed traveling, movies, amusement parks and theater.
She came to know the Lord early in life, and that was reflected in her attendance and fellowship with her church family. She introduced all her children to the Lord early and never lost her faith during hard times and disappointments.
Mrs. Stevens joined St. Rita's Senior Center, where she remained active, receiving several citations for helping the sick. She joined Tindley Temple United Methodist Church in 1955, and attended regularly until her illness. She was a member of Class 22 and served as Communion steward.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paris Elliot Stevens, in 1980; and eight siblings.
She is survived by five sons, Charles I. Stevens of Harrington, Del., the Rev. Paris E. Stevens of Dover, Del., Paul L. D. Stevens, William H. Stevens and Quentin J. Stevens, all of Philadelphia; three daughters, Irma A. Stevens of Los Angeles, Irene E. Stevens of Philadelphia and Doris A. McDowell of Philadelphia; three daughters-in-law, Catherine Stevens of Harrington, Harriet Stevens of Frederica, Del., and Barbara Stevens of Philadelphia; 28 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service will be 10 a.m. today at Tindley Temple United Methodist Church, 750 South Broad St., Philadelphia, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Alfred Malloney, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, West Chester, following service.
