Mary Kathryn Lee, 55

CHESTER, Md. - Mary Kathryn Lee of Chester died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, in the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore. She was 55.

Mrs. Lee was born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Frank Lynch and Mary A. Dorrell. She was raised in Grasonville and attended Stevensville High School.

She married Robert Lester Lee Jr. of Chester July 28, 1961.

She worked for Holly's Restaurant and Motel, Grasonville, as a waitress for 20 years. She later worked for Acme Supermarket, Centreville, in the meat and deli department, and for Chesapeake Publishing, delivering the local papers to Kent Island residents.

Mrs. Lee was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kent Island.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sept. 12, 1997.

She is survived by three sons, Gary Michael Lee, Robert Lester Lee III and George Albert Lee, all of Chester; two daughters, Kathryn Eleanor Hyde and Arenthia Ann Butler, both of Grasonville; two brothers, Billy Lindner of Chester and Bobby Lindner of Stevensville; a sister, Joyce Ann Horney of Henderson; and seven grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, Kent Island, where family and friends may call 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Burial will be in Stevensville Cemetery, Stevensville.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Kent Island, 300 State St., Stevensville, MD 21666; or to Kent Island Volunteer Fire Dept., PO Box 27, Stevensville, MD 21666.

Joseph Nicotra, 68

TOWNSEND - Joseph Nicotra of Townsend died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1998, in his home. He was 68.

Mr. Nicotra was born in Brooklyn, N.Y.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Nicotra worked for the Dymo Co. in Manhattan, and then for Norcom. He retired from the latter in 1993, and moved to Delaware from New York.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Middletown; the Korean War Veterans Association; and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3792, Middletown, of which he was a lifetime member.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, June; three sons, Anthony of Piscataway, N.J., Vincent of Branchburge, N.J., and Joseph Jr. of Townsend; and five grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, West Cochran St., Middletown.

Friends may call 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.

Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to First State Hospice, 5165 W. Woodmill Drive, Suite 12, Wilmington, DE 19808.

Iva Ralph, 81

HARRINGTON - Iva Ralph of Harrington died of respiratory failure Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 81.

Mrs. Ralph was born in Farmington, the daughter of the late Elijah and Alice Baker.

She was a seamstress for the Aetna Shirt Co., Harrington, for several years, and retired in the early 1970s.

Mrs. Ralph was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Harrington.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Samuel E. Lyons, in 1997.

She is survived by her husband, James A. Ralph; three sons, James A. Ralph Jr. of Felton and Robert Ralph and Ivan Ralph, both of Harrington; a daughter, Janice Bridges of Marlton, Ark.; a sister, Lottie Hill of Milford; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in McKnatt Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

William Smith, 83

William Smith of Smyrna died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, in the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill. He was 83.

Mr. Smith was born Aug. 15, 1915, in Virginia.

He had worked as a farm laborer.

Mr. Smith enjoyed gardening, watching television and socializing with his friends.

He is survived by a close friend, Charles H. Wright of Delaware City.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. today in Lakeside Cemetery, North State Street, Dover.

Friends may call 9:30-10 a.m. today in the Pastoral Care Chapel at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, 100 Sunnyside Road, Smyrna.

Margaret E. Towers

HOUSTON - Margaret E. Towers of Houston died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, in the Milford Center, Milford. She was 77.

Mrs. Towers was a secretary for the Delaware Consistory, A.F. & A.M., Wilmington, for 26 years, retiring in 1973.

She was a member of the Houston United Methodist Church, Houston; the Milford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; the Milford New Century Club; the National Society of Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America; the National Society of Colonial Dames 17th Century; the National Society of New England Women; and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by her husband, Harry W. Towers of Houston; a son, H. Wes Towers Jr. of Harrington; a brother, H. Earl Blood of Greenville; and two grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

The family suggests contributions be made to Houston United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 43, Houston, DE 19954.

Leroy 'Bucky' Benson, 59

HOUSTON - Leroy 'Bucky' Benson of Houston died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 59.

Mr. Benson was born Sept. 15, 1939, in Bridgeville, the son of the late Harry Benson and Eva Thorpe.

He was a graduate of William C. Jason High School in Georgetown.

In March 1962, Mr. Benson joined the U.S. Army. Throughout his military career, he received numerous awards, including the Vietnam Campaign Medal with seven oak leaf clusters. In 1982, he retired from the Army after 21 years of distinguished service.

He married Betty L. Johnson of Houston in 1972.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Jeff Johnson of Jacksonville, Fla.; three daughters, Sharon Burris of Felton and Wanda Johnson and Cheryl Spady, both of Milford; four brothers, Carl Benson of Greenwood, and Joe Benson, Rudolph Benson and Leroy's twin brother, Leslie Benson, all of Philadelphia; two sisters, Pauline Benson and Helena Perkins, both of Philadelphia; five grandchildren, Jeff, Jarett, Shanda, Adrianna and Terrell; an uncle, Robert Thorpe; a daughter-in-law; six sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Metropolitan United Methodist Church, 109 West St., Harrington, with the Rev. Harry R. Benson officiating and the Rev. Acola Horsey, pastor, assisting.

Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear.

Lynda Lee Cahoon, 88

LEWES - Lynda Lee Cahoon of Lewes died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 88.

Mrs. Cahoon was born Dec. 15, 1909, in Leigh, England, the daughter of the late Aaron Lee and Susan Ida Isher Wood.

She received a master's degree in psychology from George Washington University and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Mrs. Cahoon worked for the federal Department of Justice for many years, and also worked for the National Institutes of Health, becoming chief of the research grants division.

She was devoted to her family, and enjoyed knitting and bridge.

She is survived by a son, Michael Lee Cahoon of Lewes; three daughters, Lynda Margaret Klingman of Albuquerque, N.M., Susan Lee Bodman of Indianapolis and Patricia Ann Zubritsky of Columbia, Md.; a sister, Alice James of Troy, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Private service was held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Lewes, with the Rev. Doug Culton officiating.

Visitation was at the church.

Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery, Pilottown, Lewes.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Little Sisters of Jesus and Mary Joseph House, PO Box 1755, Salisbury, MD 21802; or to Casa San Francisco Center, P.O. Box 38, Milton, DE 19968.

Elwood J. Campbell Sr., 80

HOCKESSIN - Elwood J. Campbell Sr. of Hockessin died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, in Brock's Nursing Home, Hockessin. He was 80.

Mr. Campbell was born Feb. 24, 1918, in Newark, N.J., the son of the late John M. Campbell and Lettie M. Campbell.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Mr. Campbell had worked as a groundskeeper at the University of Delaware, retiring about 1971.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice G. Campbell, in 1993.

He is survived by two sons, E. John Campbell Jr. of Newark, Del., and David W. Campbell of Elk Park, N.C.; two daughters, Sharon L. Kennedy of Townsend and Mary Jane Wooten of Banner Elk, N.C.; a brother, Walter Campbell of Rehoboth Beach; a sister, Louise Leach of Newark; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Robert T. Jones and Foard Funeral Home, Newark, with the Rev. Roy Pollard officiating.

Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Robert T. Jones & Foard Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711.

Glenn Roscoe Davis, 36

LAUREL - Glenn Roscoe Davis of Laurel died Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 36.

Mr. Davis was born in Milford, the son of Edward G. Davis and Elizabeth L. Davis, both of Laurel.

He was a longtime commercial fisherman. He worked as a lobsterman aboard the 'Mary E. Carey' for Davis Fisheries Ltd. nearly everyfishing season since 1980. He also engaged in commercial crabbing, clamming and gill-netting on a regular basis.

Mr. Davis was a very avid outdoorsman who particularly loved his family's woodland property on Broad Creek near Laurel.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Henry C. Davis of Laurel and Alan G. Davis of Dover; and a sister, Trina R. Wheedleton of Seaford.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Short Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel, with the Rev. James Manion presiding.

Burial will be private.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Friends of Corinthian House, 291/221 S. Race St., Georgetown, DE 19947.

Anna F. 'Donia' Dodd, 82

LEWES - Anna F. 'Donia' Dodd of Lewes died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, in Harbor Healthcare Convalescent Center, Lewes. She was 82.

Mrs. Dodd was born in Milton, the daughter of the late George Carpenter and Blanch Carpenter Mitchell.

She was a waitress at Angler's Restaurant for 17 years in the 1950s, and was an Avon representative in the Lewes area for 35 years.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dodd was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Dodd, in 1951; and a daughter, Helen Constance Dodd.

She is survived by a son, William E. Dodd Jr. of Dover; two daughters, Patsy Dodd Sweeney of Dover and Jean Ann Hill of San Diego; a brother, John Carpenter of Harrington; three sisters, Pauline Pepper of Georgetown and Jane Melvin and Regenia Brown, both of Harrington; a sister-in-law, Helen Carpenter of Millsboro; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 3 p.m. today at the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in White's Chapel Cemetery, Milton.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read's Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720; or to Westminster Presbyterian Radio Ministry, Attn.: The Rev. Dean, 301 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
