CECILTON, Md. - Mary Elizabeth Husfelt Gifford of Cecilton died of heart failure, Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, in Union Hospital, Elkton. She was 82.
Mrs. Gifford was born near Earleville, the daughter of the late Thomas and Bertha Bailey.
In her early years, she worked on a farm doing everyday chores of farm life, from milking cows to planting the fields. After moving to Cecilton in 1958, she worked in the Cecilton Drug Store and for several for Faze Ladies Dress and Apparel Shop in Elkton. She later worked in the Cecilton Creamy Freeze and then went to work for Money's Restaurant and Produce Market near Middletown, Del., where she worked for 20 years in several capacities, retiring in 1992.
She loved flowers, loved to cook and loved to entertain friends and family. She especially loved to read her Bible.
Mrs. Gifford was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Cecilton, and a past member and president for many years at the W.S.C.S. in Earlesville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Gifford in 1994; four brothers, Thomas, Ralph and Howard Bailey; and two sisters, Anna Long and Josephine Purner.
She is survived by a daughter, Ruby Alcorn of Elkton; three sons, William Husfelt of York, Pa., Thomas Husfelt of Chesapeake City, and Jesse Gifford of Cecilton; three sisters, Viola Smith of Newark, Del., Virginia Cox of Chesapeake City, and Helen Carnevale of Wilmington, Del.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Earleville, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Beatrice 'Mickey' M. Maykut, 77
WILMINGTON - Beatrice 'Mickey' M. Maykut of Wilmington died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, in her home. She was 77.
Mrs. Maykut was born in Hartly, the daughter of the late George Morris and Anna Poore.
She was employed by Sears Fashion Store, retiring in 1997.
Mrs. Maykut was a member of the Elks Lodge of Claymont.
She is survived by a sister, Mary C. Carlisle of Wilmington.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the McCrery Memorial Chapel, Kirkwood Highway and Duncan Road, Wilmington, where friends may call 7-9 p.m. today.
Burial will be in the Silver Brook Cemetery.

Merrill Lavere Meckley, 74
SUTHERLAND, Va. - Merrill Lavere Meckley of Sutherland, formerly of Milford, Del., died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, at his daughter's home. He was 74.
Mr. Meckley, a native of Hanover, Pa., was the son of the late Delphus and Mamie Miller Meckley.
He was a retired general manager for Power Trans, Inc. of Bridgeville, Del.
Mr. Meckley was a lifetime member of GEEPS and a member of the Reformation Lutheran Church of Milford, Del.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Meckley; a son, James R. Meckley of Bowie, Md.; two daughters, Cynthia D. Swan, of Milford, and Susan M. Allen of Sutherland; seven grandchildren, Kent, Stephanie, Corbett and Donna Allen and Adena, David, Samuel and Michael Meckley; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Ornan, Edgar, George and Gene Meckley, all of the Hanover, Pa., area; four sisters, Rita Brame, Leatrice Heidibridle, Heilda Folmer and Elenor Redding, all of the Hanover area.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Va. The Rev. John Raney will officiate.
Friends may call 7-8:30 p.m. today at the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2003 Boulevard, Colonial Heights.

MIDDLETOWN - Carolyn Grace Elizabeth Loyd of Middletown died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, in her home. She was 6 weeks old.
Carolyn was the daughter of Joe and Gail Loyd.
She is survived by a brother, Kyle, at home; her maternal grandfather, Gary Lasako; paternal grandparents, Rick Loyd of Wisconsin and Joyce of Arkansas; her maternal great-grandparents, Charles and Carrie Meredith of Newark; and paternal great-grandparents, John Loyd and Irene Sullivan, both of Wisconsin.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery, Middletown.
Richard E. Walizer, 61
GEORGETOWN - Richard E. Walizer of Georgetown, formerly of Philadelphia, died of heart failure, Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. He was 61.
Mr. Walizer was born in Philadelphia, the son of the late Leonard Walizer and Wilhemena O'Brien Walizer.
He was a retired waterman.
Mr. Walizer was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 646 of Lewes and Rehoboth Beach.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Ann Walizer in 1998.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara M. Walizer; three sons, Richard E. Walizer Jr., of Ellendale, and Leonard and Ezra Walizer, both of Philadelphia; a brother, Albert Walizer of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Francis and Raymond McColpin, both of Philadelphia; and five grandchildren.
Service and burial will be private.

Mary B. Young, 92
HARTLY - Mary B. Young of Hartly died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, in Bayhealth Medical Center/Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 92.
Mrs. Young owned and operated the Blue Hen Book Store, Wilmington, and was the curator of Linden's in Smyrna. She also worked as a recreational aide at Delaware Hospital Chronically Ill. She enjoyed quilting, rug making, and hand crafts.
She was a member of the Duck Creek Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Young in 1966.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Roxanne Blecher of Newark; and a step-grandson, Richard Hawkins of Batesbury, S.C.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Faries Funeral Home, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Linea MacDonald, 94
SMYRNA - Linea MacDonald of Smyrna died Nov. 28, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. She was 94.
Mrs. MacDonald was born on April 20, 1904, in Oslo, Norway. She moved from Manhattan to Delaware in 1992 to be with her son, John MacDonald.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Oscar MacDonald in July 1970.
She is survived by a son, John MacDonald and his wife, Gail, of Little Creek; two grandchildren, Robert MacDonald and Tracey MacDonald; and two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Elissa.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be private.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Sue Adele Smith, 92
FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Sue Adele Smith of Federalsburg died of heart failure, Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, in Mallard Bay Nursing Home, Cambridge. She was 92.
Mrs. Smith was born in Crisfield, the daughter of the late Edward and Clara Lewis Adams.
She was a homemaker her entire life and lived in Federalsburg until six years ago, when her health no longer permitted her to remain in her home and she then became a resident of Mallard Bay.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. Smith in 1968, and a daughter, Adele Taylor in 1974.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Patti Holland, and a great-granddaughter, Julie Holland, both of Federalsburg.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Williamson Funeral Home, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Parsons Cemetery, Salisbury.

MIDDLETOWN - Joan Wilhelm Ginn of Middletown died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, in her home. She was 74.
Mrs. Ginn was a graduate of Goldey Beacom.
She was a secretary in the Christiana School District. She had previously worked for the State Welfare Commission and also RCA Flight Lab at New Castle County Airport, totaling over 30 years as a state employee.
Mrs. Ginn was a member of Red Lion United Methodist Church, Bear.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, James Culmer Ginn; two sons, David C., of Newport Heights, and Wayne J., of Newark; a sister, Nancy W. Walls of Middletown; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park, Minquadale, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Friday.
Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
