FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Susie Elizabeth Harrington of Federalsburg died of heart failure Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, in Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 87.
Miss Harrington was born June 1, 1911, in Queen Anne's County, the daughter of the late Harry and Lucy Chance Harrington.
She attended the public schools of Queen Anne's and Talbot counties.
While living in St. Michael's, Miss Harrington had her first job as a trimmer at Firstman's Sewing Factory in St. Michael's. After moving to Easton, she began working in the Easton location of the same company. She retired in 1976.
In 1988, she moved to Federalsburg to live with her sister.
Miss Harrington is survived by two brothers, Joseph Harrington of Houston and Robert Harrington of Federalsburg; and three sisters, Lola Harrington of Federalsburg, Lucy Willoughby of Easton and Ellen Snowberger of Wyoming, Del.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton.

Lee Roy Jarmon, 88
WHALEYVILLE, Md. - Lee Roy Jarmon of Whaleyville died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998. He was 88.
Mr. Jarmon was born June 5, 1910, in Whaleyville, the son of the late William Hammond and Millie Jarmon Davis.
He married Mary Byrd in 1946.
Mr. Jarmon was self-employed, and also worked for many years at the former H&H Poultry cafeteria.
He joined Pullett's United Methodist Church, Whaleyville, at an early age, and served it as a trustee and class leader.
Mr. Jarmon will be remembered for his gentle way and his many home-cooked delights. In his later years, he often spoke about the various dishes he prepared. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather, and showed his love in a gentle, unassuming way.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife in May 1991.
He is survived by two daughters, Alice C. Holley of Tampa, Fla., and Hazel J. Showell of Dover, Del.; four grandchildren, Hosa B. Showell of Baltimore, Angela F. Showell of Dover, Patrick F. Showell of Hanscom Air Force Base near Lexington, Mass., and Yolanda E. Holey of Tampa; two sisters, Catherine A. Davis of Salisbury and Ella Barton of Whaleyville; four brothers-in-law, Frederick Barton, John H. Davis, Thomas 'Bud' Brown and Nurry Brown; two great-grandchildren; nephews; nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Pullett's U.M. Church, Whaleyville, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Josephine Ellenor Shockley, 88
DENTON, Md. - Josephine Ellenor Shockley of Denton, and formerly of Goldsboro, died of natural causes Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, in Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Denton. She was 88.
Mrs. Shockley was born March 9, 1910, in Ridgely, the daughter of the late Joseph Benton.
She was a graduate of Ridgely High School.
Mrs. Shockley had been employed by ILC Industries in Frederica, Del., and Dover, Del., in the manufacture of space suits.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Goldsboro, where she taught Sunday school and Methodist Youth Fellowship; and was a founding and life member of the Goldsboro Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Smith Shockley, Dec. 4, 1968; and a daughter, Ruth L. Hurd, March 23, 1994.
She is survived by a grandson, Francis W. Cahall of Goldsboro; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and four step-great-great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home P.A., 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, where friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday.
Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro.
Ada M. Wagemaker, 87
GREENWOOD - Ada M. Wagemaker of Greenwood died of respiratory failure Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, in Seaford Center, Seaford. She was 87.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Wagemaker, in 1986.
She is survived by a brother, Norris F. Wooters of Harrington; a sister, Anna M. Kane of Greenwood; and a daughter, Melissa Davidson, of California.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at McKnatt Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
Charles LeRoy 'Chuck' Hurd, 63
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Charles LeRoy 'Chuck' Hurd of Chestertown died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital. He was 63.
Mr. Hurd was born in Jackson, Mich., the son of the late Vincent S. and Rose Ellen Morris Hurd.
He attended the University of Maryland, where he received an associate of arts degree in business administration.
Mr. Hurd served his country in the U.S. Army 3rd Armored Division, receiving an honorable discharge in 1963.
He lived for a number of years in New Jersey, California and Maryland.
He worked for C&P Telephone Co., when they split he went with AT&T Corp., working in its marketing systems division until retiring in 1989.
Mr. Hurd loved his music and was an active member of the SPEBSQSA (Barbershop Quartette), a member of the Chapter 111 of Holiday Ramblers Recreational Vehicle Club.
He was very active in his church, served on the administrative board and in several other capacities, He was past president of Congregation of Middletown at the Christ Reform Church, where he served as the youth director.
Mr. Hurd was a family-oriented man with a deep-rooted love for his children and grandchildren. In his spare time he liked to fish, camp and sing. He was also an avid football and basketball fan.
He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Marjorie Beth Russell; a son, Russell Vincent Hurd and his wife, Melody of New Market; a daughter, Beth Ann Hurd Cayer and her husband, Jon of Fort Meade; a brother, Vincent Hurd on Manteca, Calif., and two grandchildren.
Service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Chestertown. The Rev. Jerry Devine will officiate.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Mildred M. Berger, 82
REHOBOTH BEACH - Mildred M. Berger of Rehoboth Beach died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in Beebe Medical Center. She was 82.
Mrs. Berger was born on Sept. 23, 1916, in Baltimore, the daughter of the late Thomas Birmingham and Madeline Casey.
She served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary from 1941 to 1945, during World War II.
She was a homemaker, she also worked at Miller Brothers Restaurant in Baltimore City until their closure.
Mrs. Berger was a member of St. Edmond's Catholic Church, King and Laurel streets, Rehoboth Beach and a member of Cape Henlopen Senior Citizen Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur J. Berger in 1988.
She is survived by a son, Adrian Berger of Severna Park, Md., and two daughters, Jean M. Vaeth of Columbia, Md., and Jacqueline I. McQuaide of Lewes.
Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edmonds Catholic Church, Rehoboth Beach. Father Philip Sheekey will officiate.

Arlene J. Moyer, 61
DOVER - Arlene J. Moyer of Dover died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in Kent General Hospital. She was 61.
Mrs. Moyer was born on Oct. 11, 1937, in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Franklin and Althea McQuay.
She was raised in the Philadelphia area, moving to Dover in 1977.
Mrs. Moyer was a homemaker.
She made and collected porcelain dolls.
Mrs. Moyer was a member of the N.C.O. Wives Club and did volunteer work for them and for Family Services at each Air Force Base her husband was assigned.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, John H. Moyer Sr; two sons, John H. Moyer Jr. and his wife, Debra and Anthony Moyer and his wife, Eve Marie all of Harrington; two daughters, Karen Moyer of Dover and Pandora 'Pam' Moyer of Portland, Maine; two sisters, Joan Cloutio of Chipley, Fla. and Shirley McQuay of Newark; and five grandchildren, Jonathan, Amber Marie, Lauren, Jennifer, and Trish, all of Harrington.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Torbert Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Burial will be in Beverly National Cemetery, Beverly, New Jersey.

Dorothy C. Yearsley, 69
DOVER - Dorothy C. Yearsley of Dover died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, in Kent General Hospital. She was 69.
Mrs. Yearsley was the daughter of Frank B. Clough and Viola Crist.
She worked for Playtex Corp. of Dover in the shipping department.
Mrs. Yearsley was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Yearsley, in 1986.
She is survived by three sons, Larry Yearsley and Frank Yearsley, both of Dover, and Billy Yearsley of Felton; three daughters, Janice Hamilton of Camden, Phyllis Ferringer of Dover and Bonnie Gehrmann of Woodside; two brothers; a sister; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Service and burial will be private.

J. Francis Turpin, 84
FEDERALSBURG, Md. - J. Francis Turpin of Federalsburg died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. He was 84.
Mr. Turpin was born on April 11, 1914, in Hurlock in Dorchester County, the son of the late John F. Turpin Sr. and Mattie Stephens Turpin.
He was a graduate of Hurlock High School's class of 1931.
Mr. Turpin was a poultry and grain farmer his entire life. He also worked for the Federalsburg Post Office as a postal clerk for 30 years.
He was a very prominent member of the Methodist Lay Ministry, filling in for many area churches, whenever he was needed. He was an active member of his community, was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School for over 50 years, served as lay leader and participated in the Christian Endeavor and the United Methodist Men. He was also a member of the Carolina County Farm Bureau, the Federalsburg Senior Center and the Federalsburg Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice White Turpin, on June 23, 1994.
He is survived by four daughters and their spouses, Faye and Richard Coulburn, Marie and Wayne Coulborne, all of Federalsburg, Ruth and Bill Tull of Laurel, Del., and Jannette and David Wundrow of Bowie; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Willen of Milford, Del. and a special friend, Hazel Jones of Federalsburg.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Christ United Methodist Church, 201 S. Main St., Federalsburg, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Glenn Lyburn will officiate.
Friends may also call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Frampton-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home.
Serving as pall bearers will be Micheal Tull, Scott Murphy, Alan Murphy, Jeff Murphy, Eddie Colbourn and Andrew Mandela.
Burial will be in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Oak Grove, near Federalsburg.
Walter K. McDowell, 68
CLAYTON - Walter K. McDowell Sr. of Clayton died of heart failure Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in his home. He was 68.
Mr. McDowell retired from Chrysler Corp. in 1989 after 34 years of service. He also worked as a bricklayer for over 50 years for various companies, including his father's business, McDowell & Sons.
He was an active member of the Jehovah's Witness for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley Ruth McDowell; three sons, Steve McDowell of Middletown, Walter McDowell of Newark and Jeffery McDowell of Townsend; two daughters, Freda McClain of Elkton, Md., and Kelly Pile of Townsend; six sisters, Elaine Smith of Newark, Freda Dowd of North Carolina, Wilma O'Neil of Smyrna, Mary Lou Grimm of Maine, Edith Lum of Newark and Erma Thomas of North Carolina; a brother, Jimmy McDowell of Ohio, and he enjoyed his 10 grandchildren and crabbing and fishing.
Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Newark Congregation of Jehovah's Witness, 40 Old Newark Road, Newark.
Burial will be private.
