EASTON, Md. - Edward Earl Roberts of Easton died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in Easton Memorial Hospital. He was 67.
Mr. Roberts was born and reared in Easton, the son of the late Perry and Mary Roberts.
He was educated in the Talbot County public schools.
Mr. Roberts served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in February 1961.
He worked for the Coca-Cola Company, New Brick & Tile Company, Kelly's Grocery Store, Peninsula Carpeting and Gray Block Ribbons, from where he retired in April 1995.
Mr. Roberts was a deacon and active member of the Union Baptist Church since a child; a member of the Angelic and Twilight Jubilee Choirs, past chairman of the Board of Christian Education, the deacon of Ministry, superintendent of Sunday School, and director of the Vacation Bible School. Upon his death, he was serving as a Sunday School teacher, custodian, member of the pulpit Committee, member of the men's choir and secretary of the Deacon Ministry. He was also an active member and secretary of the Progressive Baptist Association.
He was survived by his wife of 43 years, Ellice Jenkins Roberts; a daughter and son-in-law, James and Renee Pierce of Easton; a granddaughter, Krystle; four sisters, Thelma Bailey, Margaret Fountain, Virginia Mae Cherry and Darlene Rich, all of Easton; a brother, Perry Roberts of Grasonville; a mother-in-law; seven sisters-in-law, six brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Union Baptist Church, Glewood Avenue, Easton.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 10-11 a.m. Friday at the Church.
Burial will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Beulah.

Luvell James, 55
SALISBURY, Md. - Luvell James of Salisbury died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, in his home. He was 55.
Mr. James was born in Wardtown, Va., the son of Leanna James and the late Charlie James Sr.
He retired from the Campbell Soup Company after 23 years of service.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, June James of Salisbury; two sisters, Leonna Collins of Salisbury and Florence Mapp of Jamesville, Va.; two brothers, Charlie James Jr. of Jamesville and Harold Lee James of Franktown, Va.; a sister-in-law, Margaret James of Jamesville; a brother-in-law, Thomas Lee Mapp of Jamesville; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mills Memorial Chapel in Salisbury.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery, Salisbury.

Diane Pepper Begnoche, 46
HENDERSON, Nev. - Diane Pepper Begnoche of Henderson died of hart failure Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Henderson. She was 46.
Mrs. Begnoche was born on Nov. 12, 1952, in Delaware, the daughter of George Edward and Essie Louise Meredeth Pepper of Marydel.
She graduated from Caesar Rodney Senior High School in Camden, Del., class of 1971.
Mrs. Begnoche had been employed as a loan processor in the banking business in Las Vegas.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 26 years, Francis R. Begnoche of Henderson; a son, Christopher Begnoche of Henderson; and a sister, Patty Pepper of Camden.
Service was held privately on Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, with a burial following in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Grace Jane Pethel, 68
DOVER - Grace Jane Pethel of Dover died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, in Kent General Hospital. She was 68.
Ms. Pethel was born in Baltimore, the daughter of the late John and Grace Pilert. She moved to Dover from Baltimore 10 years ago.
She was a homemaker.
Ms. Pethel enjoyed sewing and reading.
She is survived by two daughters, Julia Jane Moyer of Centreville, Md. and Grace Marie Pethel of Wyoming; and two grandsons.
Service will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

William Thomas Ryan
Ft. MYERS, Fla. - William Thomas Ryan of Ft. Myers died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, in Lewes, Del.
Mr. Ryan was born in Troy, N.Y., the son of the late New York Senator John P. Ryan and Mary Agnes McCarthy Ryan.
He was a member of the U.S.M.A., at West Point, Class of 1948. Lt. Ryan served in Korea where he was wounded on April 19, 1951, and awarded the Purple Heart. He was promoted to captain and honorably discharged in 1954.
Mr. Ryan held a master's degree from Renslaer Polytechnic Institute and a JD degree from Georgetown Law School. He was the legislative liaison officer for the U.S. Naval Material Command from which he retired in 1972.
Mr. Ryan opened Ryan Real Estate Inc. in 1978 in Dewey Beach, Del. He served as magistrate of Rehoboth Beach, and when Dewey Beach incorporated, he was elected a town commissioner.
He moved to Ft. Myers in 1994, becoming a member of Whiskey Creek Country Club and resided in Calossa Yacht and Racquet Club. He was a lifetime member of the VFW of Rehoboth Beach, and a member of the Catholic Church of the Resurrection, Ft. Myers.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, in Columbarium in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., friends should arrive in the cemetery by 12:30 p.m.
A reception will follow the burial.

NEWARK - Pauline L. Carroll of Breezewood, Newark, formerly of Dover, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 80.
Mrs. Carroll was born on April 19, in Georgetown, the daughter of the late Edward Collins and Jenny Littleton Collins.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Carroll, in 1964.
She is survived by a son, Charles A. Carroll of Delaware City; three daughters, Charline Cristofori of New Port, Fla., Betty Ann Williams of Panama City, Fla., and Linda L. Bowers of Newark, Del.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Margaret Elaine Donahue, 79
GEORGETOWN - Margaret Elaine Donahue of Georgetown died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, in Bayhealth Center, Milford. She was 79.
Mrs. Donahue was born on Nov. 9, 1919, in Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of the late Owen Freeland Holsclaw and Rosa Mathiasen.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Donahue lived in Sioux City, Iowa, where she worked at a grain exchange until she moved to East Aurora, N.Y. She moved to Georgetown in 1956.
She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School for many years.
She is survived by her husband, John M. Donahue of Georgetown; two daughters, Gail Drzymalski of Milford and Riva Givens of Seaford; and two brothers, Ernest Holsclaw of Onawa and Lynn Holsclaw of Jefferson, Iowa.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium-Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 N. Bedford St., Georgetown, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. The Rev. Pruett-Barnett will officiate.

ORO VALLEY, Ariz. - Barbara Ellen Bragg of Oro Valley, formerly of Goldsboro, Md., died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, in her home. She was 67.
Mrs. Bragg was born January 31, 1931 in Danville, Ill., the daughter of the late Charles and Helen Smith Meyers.
She formerly managed the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Severna Park, Md., and a was homemaker.
Mrs. Bragg was preceded in death by a son, Toby Bragg, in 1998.
She is survived by her husband, Orville Bragg of Oro Valley; three sons, Fred Bragg of Easton, Md., Richard Bragg of Henderson, Md., and William Bragg; a daughter, Linda Anderson of Oro Valley; and a brother, Sonny Meyers of Colorado; and five grandchildren.

Anne S. Van Vessen Taylor, 84
FELTON - Anne S. Van Vessen Taylor died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in Westminster Village, Dover. She was 84.
Mrs. Taylor was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of the late Carl F. and Rose De Blitz Streit.
She worked as a medical office manager for many years.
She moved to Delaware in the 1980s to be near her family and enjoying sewing, cooking and bowling. Her greatest joy being with her family.
Mrs. Taylor attended the Immaculate Conception Church in Marydel, Md.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cornelius D. Van Hessen in 1947, and her second husband in 1978.
She is survived by a son, Robert J. Van Vessen of Felton; a daughter, Lynne S. Young of Northwood, N.H.; eight grandchildren, Rob Van Vessen of Sandtown, Cara Grove of Harrington, Meg Gravatt of Milford, and Sharon Graham, Clifford J. Young III, Mary Beth Farrar, Polly Young and Cornelius Young, all of Northwood; 12 great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, William Taylor of Sayville, N.Y., and Robert Taylor of Lancaster, Pa.; and several step-grand and great-grandchildren.

SNOW HILL, Md. - Sallie Artis Powell of Snow Hill died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999 in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. She was 82.
Mrs. Powell was born on February 14, 1916, in Franklin, Va., the daughter of the late James Henry and Matilda Curtis.
She married Charles Powell of Snow Hill on Dec. 20, 1950.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Vertily Sanders; and three brothers, James Artis, Robert Artis, and Fletcher Artis.
She is survived by three sisters, Nellie Brown of Virginia Beach, Va., Amanda Bailey of Salisbury Adell Finney of Onley, Va.; a brother, Willie Lee Artis of Suffolk, Va.; a brother-in-law, Edward Finney of Onley; a great niece, Angela Marshall of Pocomoke; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives.
