HURLOCK, Md. - Clarence Carlton Adams of Hurlock died, after a short illness, Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, in his home. He was 70.
Mr. Adams was born Jan. 14, 1928, the son of the late William and Eary Adams.
He was a professional truck driver, and did numerous odd jobs after retiring.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Devine Adams.
He is survived by his dear companion, Diane Smith; three sons, Bobby Quailes, Jarvis Devine and Tracy Adams; four daughters, Gladys Holland, Freda Devine, Delesia Pinder and Natasha Adams; a sister, Sadonia Adams of Baltimore; several nephews and nieces; and many, many friends.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Hurlock, where friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today.
Burial will be in Washington Cemetery, Hurlock.
Ann W. Campbell, 86
DUNELLON, Fla. - Ann. W. Campbell of Dunellon, and formerly of Greensboro, Md., died of natural causes Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, in Sylvia's Hospice, Ocala. She was 86.
Mrs. Campbell was born March 14, 1912, in Wurtzburg, Germany, the daughter of the late Leo and Babette Langstangh Weikinger.
She was a homemaker. She moved to Greensboro in 1992 from Hyattsville, Md.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence Peggerly, in 1955; and her second husband, Paul Campbell, in 1997.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Peggerly of Cornersville, Tenn., and Greg Pefferly of Rocky Ridge, Md.; three daughters, Barbara Husk, Sue Simmons and Fay Lupac, all of Ocala; a sister, Kay Lucke of Linden, Va.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Service will be noon Saturday at the Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home P.A., 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, Md., where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Committal service and burial will be 2:30 p.m. in Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Bladensburg, Md.
Emmie Dean Decuir Douglas, 40
DOVER - Emmie Dean Decuir Douglas died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998. She was 40.
Mrs. Douglas was born Oct. 25, 1998, in New Orleans, the daughter of the late Vernon Magee and Mary Decuir.
She received her formal education in New Orleans public schools.
Mrs. Douglas moved to Dover in 1996. She was a customer service manager with Wal-Mart.
She is survived by her loving husband, Melton Douglas; a son, Larry; a brother, Eldridge Decuir; sisters, Lou Ann Crenshaw of Atlanta, Nedrea Johnson, Cynthia Grow and Verna Howard, all of New Orleans, and Andrea Black of Camden; six brothers-in-law, Samuel Douglas Jr. and Caesar Douglas, both of Baton Rouge, La., and Ray Crenshaw, Aaron Black, Charles Grow and Ronnie Grow; four sisters-in-law, Celestine Douglas, Rebecca Johnson, Hazel Thomas and Helen Black, all of Baton Rouge; her mother-in-law, Madelyn Brown; a grandmother, Alice Decuir; uncles; aunts; cousins and many devoted friends.
Service will be 8 p.m. today at Bennie L. Smith Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be Monday in Provident Cemetery, New Orleans.
Jean Ruth Rickards Hines, 81
SEAFORD - Jean Ruth Rickards Hines of Seaford died of heart failure Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, in Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Berlin, Md. She was 81.
Mrs. Hines was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late William Lawrence Rickards and Anna Winifred Derrickson Rickards.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Stedman W. Hines; two daughters, Carol J. Morris of Salisbury, Md., and Linda L. Hollis of Seaford; four grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front and King streets, Seaford, with the Rev. Kari K. Jones officiating.
Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, following a graveside service.

Doris Erie Hynson, 71
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Doris Erie Hynson of Chestertown died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, in Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. She was 71.
Mrs. Hynson was born in Kent County, the daughter of the late Robert Banks and Alice Hopkins.
She attended the public schools of Kent County.
Mrs. Hynson worked for Vita Foods and Campbell Soup Co., both of Chestertown, and for several area families.
She was a longtime member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Chestertown, and served as a stewardess.
Mrs. Hynson loved gospel music.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Hynson.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mark Jackson and Priscilla Ann Jackson of Chestertown; three grandchildren, Dorese Jackson of Chestertown, Mark Jackson Jr. of Glen Burnie and Thomas Jackson of Greenville, N.C.; eight great-grandchildren; an uncle, George Johnson Jr. of Rock Hall; two aunts, Rena Pendleton of Baltimore and Elaine Hopkins of Rock Hall; and a devoted friend, Vivian Comegys of Chestertown.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Bethel A.M.E. Church, College Avenue, Chestertown, with the Rev. Frederick W. Jones officiating.
Friends may call at the church from 7-9 p.m. today and two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in Rich Neck Hall Cemetery, Ewingtown.

Herbert William 'Sonny' Leathren, 59
GOLTS, Md. - Herbert William 'Sonny' Leathren of Golts died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, in his home. He was 59.
Mr. Leathren had worked for the Middletown, Del., Agway for 10 years, and then worked for the Delaware Department of Transportation, Division of Highways, as an operator, for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sue Leathren; a son, Herbert 'Derby' Leathren of Clayton, Del.; three daughters, Brenda Daniels of Smyrna, Del., Mary Ann Alexander of Middletown and Penny Leathren of Clayton; three sisters, Alice Redman of Middletown, Pauline Leathren of Smyrna and Frances Nabb of Florida; and seven grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Townsend Cemetery, Townsend, Del.

Virginia Rae Myers, 59
MARYDEL, Md. - Virginia Rae Myers of Marydel died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, in the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore, as the result of an accident. She was 59.
She was born January 19, 1929, in Cumberland, the daughter of the late Joe Donald and Amy Mansbury Coakley.
Mrs. Myers had lived in Marydel since moving from Washington, D.C., in 1968.
She was employed by L.C.S. of Dover, Del., as a team leader.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Myers, April 12, 1994.
She is survived by a son, Raymond Edwin Myers of Marydel; three daughters, Joyce Ann Biddle and Janet Lee Racz, both of Henderson, and Sgt. 1st Class Judy Lynn Johnson of Fort Carson, Colo.; two brothers, Joe Donald Coakley of West Virginia and Frank Sword of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

Oscar L. Norman Jr., 73
DOVER - Oscar L. Norman Jr. of Dover died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, in Westminster Village Health Center, Dover. He was 73.
Mr. Norman was born April 28, 1925, in Crawfordsville, Ind., the son of the late Oscar L. Norman Sr. and Viola Long Norman.
He graduated from Wabash College in Indiana with a bachelor's degree, from Northwestern University with a master's degree and from Purdue with a doctorate, all in chemistry.
Mr. Norman worked in research and development for 31 years, at the International Mineral & Chemical Co. from 1952-1961, and at the Sun Oil Co., Marcus Hook, Pa., from 1961-1983.
He was a member of Concord Presbyterian Church, Wilmington; the scientific honor society Sigma Xi; and the American Chemical Society.
Mr. Norman is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beverly A. Norman of Dover; a son, William C. Norman of Hockessin; a daughter, Pamela A. Norman of Wilmington and two grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.
Burial will be private.

MILFORD - Doris Plucenik died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, in Westminster Village Health Center, Dover. She was 71.

EASTON, Md. - Henry Earl Roberts of Easton died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, in Memorial Hospital at Easton, Easton. He was 54.
Mr. Roberts was born in Easton, the son of the late Perry Roberts and Mary Sullivan Roberts.
He was raised in Easton and attended the public schools there.
People would call Mr. Roberts to do odd jobs for them.
He is survived by two brothers, Perry Roberts Jr. of Grasonville and Edward E. Roberts of Easton; four sisters, Thelma Bailey, Margaret Fountain, Virginia Mae Cherry and Darlene Ricks; one brother-in-law, of Easton; two sisters-in-law, both of Easton; a nephew, of Easton; six nieces, all of Easton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Union Baptist Church, Glenwood Avenue, Easton, where friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday.
