HOUSTON - Wayman L. Bryant of Houston, died of heart failure Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, in Capital Nursing Home, Dover. He was 70.
Mr. Bryant was born Jan. 18, 1928, in Centralia, Ill.
He had retired from military service with an honorable discharge at the rank of staff sergeant, and then, had worked at Dover Air Force Base, Dover, in Civil Service, as a cook, in aircraft maintenance on the line, and finally, as a butcher in the commissary.
Mr. Bryant was a member of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church in Ellendale, where he was a trustee, was on the cemetery committee and sang with 'Voice of Hope.' He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes Hurst Bryant of Houston; four sons, John Bryant of Chicago, Wayne Bryant of Sacramento, Calif., Donald Bryant of Elizia, Ill., and Nathan K. Bryant of Ellendale; four stepchildren, Sheila Phifer of Alton, Ill., Teresa Harmon of Bear, Richard P. Harmon of Milford and Lisa M. Harmon of Eagan, Minn.; a brother, Dell Bryant of Detroit; two sisters, Remolia West of Chicago and Thelma Ferrell of Harbor City, Calif.; his mother-in-law, Della Hurst of Milton; two uncles, Buford Bryant of Centralia, Ill., and Charles Bryant of California; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; seven brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, Ellendale, where friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Mount Zion A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Ellendale.

Ethel D. Hill, 91
LEWES - Ethel D. Hill of Lewes, died of heart failure Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, in Beebe Medical Center. She was 91.
Mrs. Hill was born in Rehoboth Beach, the daughter of the late William C. Dorman and Mary Elizabeth Burton.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hill was a member of Conley's United Methodist Church in Angola, a member of Conley's U.M. Women, and a member of the Lewes Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Raymond Hill, in 1950; a daughter, Edna Baker; and a son and daughter-in-law, Roland Hill Sr. and Phyllis Hill.
She is survived by a sister, Catherine Carpenter of Lewes; a son-in-law, Charles L. Baker and his wife, Joan, both of Lewes; a grandson, R. Roland Hill Jr., of Lewes; a granddaughter, Kathy House of Berlin, Md.; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services in Long Neck, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Conley's Chapel Cemetery, Angola.

Kenneth F. Hemmig, 71
DOVER - Kenneth F. Hemmig of Dover, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, in Bayhealth Medical Center. He was 71.
Mr. Hemmig served in the U.S. Army, the U.S Navy and the U.S. Air Force for a total of 22 years, retiring as a staff sergeant in 1966.
He then worked as a mechanic for Hammond Cadillac of Milford and for Kent County Motors of Dover, retiring in 1991.
Mr. Hemmig was a member of the American Legion, Walter L. Fox Post 2, of Dover, and a member of The Modern Maturity Center in Dover, where he enjoyed playing pool.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes Hemmig of Dover; two sons, Kenneth Hemmig and David Hemmig, both of Dover; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear.

Howard Frank Kirsch Sr., 95
MILLSBORO - Howard Frank Kirsch Sr. of Millsboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, in Harrison House, Georgetown. He was 95.
Mr. Kirsch was born March 10, 1903, in Philadelphia.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II.
Mr. Kirsch was retired, having formerly worked in hosiery mills in Philadelphia, Milton and Lewes.
He worked with the Boy Scouts in Milton for 40 years, and also worked with the Sea Scouts in Runnemede, N.J.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mae Alice Kirsch of Millsboro; three sons, Howard Kirsch of Ellendale, William Kirsch of Edgewater, N.J., and David Kirsch of Belton, S.C.; a daughter, Linda Teer of Oaklyn, N.J.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Service and burial will be private.

Cora L. Lofland, 79
SEAFORD - Cora L. Lofland of Seaford Meadows, Seaford, died of kidney failure Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, in Lifecare at Lofland Park, Seaford. She was 79.
Mrs. Lofland was born in Exmore, Va., the daughter of the late Jeffrey and Mary Hardy Stamp.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Lofland was a member of St. Matthew's Baptist Church, Bishopville, Md., where she was an assistant mother of the church, a missionary and a deaconess.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William S. Lofland, in 1984.
She is survived by two sons, Milton Lofland of Trenton, N.J., and Carlton Lofland of Kingston, N.J.; seven daughters, Jessie Turnage of Seaford, Mary Robinson of Laurel, Willa Lofland of Bridgeville, Cora Lee Lofland of Dover, Frances Lofland of Felton, Virginia Morris of Freehold, N.J., and Katie Edwards of Camden, N.J.; 31 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Matthew's Baptist Church, Morris Road, Bishopville, with the Rev. Louise Williams, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Curtis Cemetery, Bishopville.

Phoebe Annette Meredith, 84
DOVER - Phoebe Annette Meredith of Dover, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. She was 84.
Ms. Meredith was born Sept. 5, 1914, in Shamokin, Pa., the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Meredith.
She had worked for 16 years as a clothing-factory worker in the Anthracite Shirt Co. in Shamokin, owne by Mr. Bernstein.
Ms. Meredith was a member of the Salvation Army church in Dover.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Chubb of Cheswold and Mary Pufnock of Dover; two brothers, Gordon Meredith and Howard Meredith, both of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Emily Moore of Dover and Dorothy Landau of Pennsylvania; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be shortly after noon Friday at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Shamokin.

Margaret M. Nickerson, 76
PICKENS, S.C. - Margaret M. Bresnahan Nickerson of Pickens, and formerly of Centerville, Mass., died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, in Hospice House, Anderson. She was 76.
Mrs. Nickerson was born Feb. 20, 1922, the daughter of the late Luke P. and Mary McAuliffe Bresnahan.
She was a retired secretary.
Mrs. Nickerson and her husband were actively involved in American Youth Hostels on Cape Cod, Mass., and were the founders of Smith's Seashore Shelters youth hostel in Eastham, Mass.
She was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Pickens, where she served as the chairwoman of the Ecumenical Committee and was a member of the Altar Society, the Women's Guild and the Bible Study and Family Life committees. She also was a dedicated member of the Holy Cross Prayer Chain.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert D. Nickerson Jr.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Herbert D. Nickerson III and Carla Nickerson, of Pocatello, Idaho; a daughter, Diane C. Nickerson of Felton, Del.; and four grandchildren, Seth Nickerson and Sarah Nickerson, both of Portland, Ore., Julianne Wojtkiewicz of Dover, Del., and Mark Wojtkiewicz of Felton.
Mass of Christian burial will be today at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Pickens.
Burial will be Tuesday in Oakland Grove Cemetery, Bourne, Mass.

Grace Thomas Trader, 81
DOVER - Grace Thomas Trader of Dover, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, in Bayhealth Medical Center-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 81.
Mrs. Trader was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Friendship, Md., the daughter of the late George J. and R. Flossie Holland Thomas.
She was graduated from Buckingham High School, Berlin, Md., with the class of 1933.
Mrs. Trader and her late husband, Roland P. Trader, established the Trader Funeral Home in January 1953 at 803 S. State St., Dover. Later, they built the present Trader Funeral Home Inc. at 12 Lotus St.
She was president of Trader Funeral Home Inc., a Delaware-licensed funeral director since 1980 and a homemaker.
Mrs. Trader was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Dover and of Buckingham Presbyterian Church, Berlin; a member of the Del-Mar-Va Funeral Director Association; and a member of Capitol Grange 18, Dover.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas R. Trader, Ross W. Trader and Teresa Trader, along with Thomas' fiancee, Georgia G. Heininger, all of Dover; four grandchildren, Ariel Trader, Chelsea Trader, Matthew Taylor and Dale Harrison, all of Dover; a special friend that lived with and took care of Mrs. Trader during her illness, Mabel L. Reed of Dover; and other caregivers, Irene Turner, Joann Evans and April Evans, all of Dover.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
A private visitation will be held for the family.
Willie Lee Watson, 82
SMYRNA - Willie Lee Watson of Smyrna, formerly of Wilmington, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, in the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Smyrna. She was 82.
Mrs. Watson was born April 13, 1916, in Florida, the daughter of the late Tommy and Ella Jones.
She worked as a custodian at Clemente's Cafeteria and Bus Station at State Road, near New Castle, for 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Watson.
Friends may call 11:30 a.m.-noon Thursday in the Pastoral Care Chapel of the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, 100 Sunnyside Road, Smyrna.

Emma E. Thompson, 87
MILFORD - Emma E. Thompson of Milford, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, in Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 87.
Mrs. Thompson was born in 1910, the daughter of the late Theodore Enss Sr. and Rose E. Enss.
She and her husband owned and operated the Carroll L. Thompson School Bus Service, from 1936-71.
Mrs. Thompson was a member of Capital Grange No. 18 in Dover, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 20 years, a member of Victory Chapter 15 in Dover, and a member of the People's Church in Dover.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll L. Thompson Sr., in 1996; and a sister, Ella E. Benson.
She is survived by two sons, Carroll L. Thompson Jr. of Dover, and Gerald W. Thompson of Milford; a daughter, Carolyn E. Dill of Milford; a brother, Theodore Enss Jr. of Marydel; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Trader Funeral Home in Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
