Leonard F. 'Slats' Short, 63

LITTLE CREEK - Leonard F. 'Slats' Short of Little Creek, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. He was 63.

Mr. Short was born in Milford, on July 2, 1935, to the late Lanford and Lydea Short.

Mr. Short was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member of Little Creek Methodist Church and the F.O.P. Lodge. He was a life member of Little Creek Fire Co., where he was the chief engineer for many years.

Mr. Short was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Short, May 28, 1997.

He is survived by a son, Leonard Robin Lindsay of Camden; two daughters, Doris Frazier of Camden-Wyoming and Lucy Short, who lives overseas; a brother and his wife, Robert F. Short and Judy of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren, Thomas Kelly Frazier Sr. and his wife, Roxanne Joy, of Little Creek, and Kenneth Burke and his fiance, Bernice Baker of Little Creek, Mary Kristine Frazier of Hermet, Calif., Shawn Elmor of Symrna, and Tiffany Elmor of Dover, and three great-grandchildren, Tiffany Lynn Frazier of Little Creek, Thomas Frazier Jr. of Little Creek, and Mary Ann Frazier of Little Creek.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call Friday evening from 7-9 p.m.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Co. P.O. Box 32, Little Creek, DE, 19961

Paul Thomas Hirschauer, 50

STEVENSVILLE, Md - Paul Thomas Hirschauer of Stevensville, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Md. He was 50.

Mr. Hirschauer was born on July 14, 1948, the son of Russell and the late Lilly Lee Kenny Hirschauer Sr.

He graduated from Centreville High School.

Mr. Hirschauer was a barber in Severna Park and owned a shop in Stevensville at one time.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ms. Lilly Lee, in June of 1975 and his brother, Russell Hirschauer Jr., in March of 1996.

He is survived by his father, Russell Hirschauer Sr.; a sister, Lynn Harrison-Wisniewski of Severna Park; two brothers, Billy Hirschauer of Berlin and Rick Hirschauer of Chester; and nieces and nephews.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newman Funeral Home, P.A., Chester, where friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Queen Anne's County Animal Shelter, 201 Clay Drive, Queenstown, MD 21658.

James Vickers Legg, 65

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - James Vickers Legg of Chestertown, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, in the home of his sister. He was 65.

Mr. Legg was born in Chestertown, the son of the late Arthur Kaslin and Violet LeCates Legg.

He was a graduate of Chestertown High School.

Mr. Legg served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged.

He worked with LaMotte Chemical Company in Chestertown for 37 years in the accounting department.

He enjoyed traveling on short trips and also counted cross-stitch and needlepoint for relaxation.

Mr. Legg was a member of the American Legion Post 36 in Chestertown.

He is survived by a brother, Arthur K. Legg Jr. of Lewes, Del.; a sister, Margaret 'Peggy' Schauber of Chestertown; a nephew and several nieces.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where friends may call 7-9 p.m. today.

Burial will be in Chester Cemetery.

Herman Schulze, 95

GREENWOOD - Herman Schulze of Greenwood, died of congestive heart failure Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, in Milford Center. He was 95.

Mr. Schulze was born in Kansas, Mo., in 1902.

His family moved to Delaware when he was at a young age.

He and his brother, Carl, started a garage business in Greenwood in 1925.

In 1926, they became Chevrolet dealers and operated the dealership for 50 years, when they both retired in 1976. At the time of his retirement, the dealership was the oldest Chevrolet dealership in Delaware.

He enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Mr. Schulze was a member of Greenwood U.M. Church. He was a member of St. Johnstown Cemetery Association for many years, and for years he was in charge of selling lots, making graves and keeping cemetery records.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nila Clendaniel Schulze, in 1994. They had been married for 60 years.

He is survived by two daughters, Herla S. Lobo of Harrington and Nera S. Dufendach of Houston; three grandchildren, Marla Drury of Chatham, N.J., Steven J. Lobo of Bethany Beach and Mark A. Dufendach Jr. of Milford and six great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Fleischauer Funeral Home, 48 W. Market St., Greenwood, where friends may call one hour prior to service.

Burial will be in St. Johnston Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the Greenwood U.M. Church or St. Johnstown U.M. Church.

Gertraud Rader, 67

KENTON - Gertraud Rader of Kenton, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, in Silver Lake Nursing Home. She was 67.

Ms. Rader was born on Feb. 1, 1931, in Tilsit, Germany.

She was married to Fritz Rader.

She and her husband came to the United States of America in 1978.

They established a Mercedes car repair business in Kenton.

Ms. Rader was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Smyrna and an active member of the German-American Club in Dover for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Hilda Lister of Dover; an aunt, Erni Rompa of Germany, and many friends.

Memorial service will be 5 p.m. Sunday at Bennie Smith Funeral Chapel, 717 W. Division St., Dover.

Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Silver Lake Cemetery.

A. Owen Sheffer, 83

DOVER - A. Owen Sheffer of Dover, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 83.

Mr. Sheffer was the son of the late Charles W. and Adaline Owen Sheffer.

He lived in Dover all his life.

Mr. Sheffer was a field engineer for Burroughs Corp for 32 years. Mr. Sheffer worked in the areas of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.

In his spare time, he enjoyed working with wood and working in his garden.

Mr. Sheffer was a member of the Dover Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and was clerk of the session of the church.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Phyllis Nelson Sheffer of Dover; three sons, Chester Sheffer of Dover, Stanley Sheffer of Milford and Lawrence Sheffer of Camden; two daughters, Pamela Sheffer and Judith Barclay, both of Dover; and seven grandchildren.

Service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, where friends may call after 12 p.m.

Burial will be in Presbyterian Cemetery, Dover.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions made to the American Cancer Society, 625 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901.

Margaret May Busch, 84

DOVER - Margaret May Busch of Dover, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, in Silver Lake Nursing Home. She was 84.

Ms. Busch had lived in Troy, Mo.

She was a homemaker on the farm with her husband.

She came to Dover in 1992 to live with her son and his family at Rose Land Estates.

Ms. Busch enjoyed working in the family garden and spending time with her trusted companion dog 'Whitty' for 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William Henry Busch in 1990.

She is survived by a son, Paul Busch Sr. of Dover; two brothers, Russell Harrell of Silex, Mo., and Buddy Harrell of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Loretta Bence of Las Vegas, two grandchildren, Paul Busch Jr. and Stephanie Busch, both of Dover; and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Brittney Busch, both of Dover.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday in Kemper-Marsh Funeral Home, 351 Monroe, Troy, where friends may call one hour prior to service.

Burial will be in Old Alexandria Cemetery, Old Alexandra, Mo.

Mary Lee Dell, 67

CANTERBURY - Mary Lee Dell of Canterbury, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. She was 67.

Mrs. Dell worked as a secretary and an accountant at Townsend Brothers Chevrolet in Dover for 20 years and later worked for the 1st State Crain Co. of Felton.

She enjoyed going to yard sales and caring for her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, James C. Bell of Canterbury; two sons, Steven Bell and his wife, Donna, of Rehoboth and Kevin Bell and his wife, Marilyn, of Dover; three grandsons, Stevie Bell of Rehoboth and Brandon and Brian Bell, both of Dover; and two sisters, Hilda Carroll and Ann Watson, both of Milford.

Service will be 7 p.m. Saturday at Faries Funeral Home, 1250 S. Governors Ave., Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to service.

Burial will be private.

Clifton G. Beauchamp, 90

DOVER - Clifton G. Beauchamp of Dover, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, in Westminster Health Center, Dover. He was 90.

Mr. Beauchamp was born Nov. 15, 1907, the son of the late Gordon and Annie Collins Beauchamp.

He was a mechanic for Townsend Brothers Chevrolet in Dover before owning and operating Beauchamp Esso Service Center, Dover, until retiring in the late 1960s.

Mr. Beauchamp was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He was preceded by his wife of 67 years, Mabel Beauchamp, in January 1997.

He is survived by a son, Robert Beauchamp of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Margaret 'Peggy' Bafik of Camden; a sister, Margaret G. Herr of Jacksonville, N.C.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Service and burial will be private.

In his memory, the family requests contributions made to Kent County Chapter of S.P.C.A., P.O. Box 224, Dover, DE 19903.
