WYOMING - John L. Brown of Wyoming, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, in his home. He was 88.
Mr. Brown was born Oct. 30, 1910, in Texas, the son of the late John and Nora Brown.
He was a lieutenant colonel serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Following his military retirement, he taught sixth-grade science for 16 years at W.B. Simpson School and retired in 1972.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Wyoming U.M. Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Doris B. Brown, in December 1995.
He is survived by a son, Robert L. Brown Sr. and his wife, Patricia, of Wyoming; a granddaughter, Julie Gates of Wyoming; a grandson, Robert L. Brown Jr. of Wyoming; two nephews, James A. Scott of Reston, Va., and Charles E. Scott of Indianapolis, Ind.
Service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial with full military honors will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Preston Moore, 81
LAUREL - Preston Moore of Laurel, died of pneumonia Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. He was 81.
Mr. Moore was born in Laurel, the son of the late Charles Edwin and Aletha Kate Bryan Moore.
He was a brakeman for Pennsylvania Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1975. He also farmed in addition to his railroad work.
He was a World War II veteran.
Mr. Moore was a member of the American Legion Post 19 in Laurel.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin Cannon Moore Scott, in March of 1993, and a sister, Sadie Moore Scott in March of 1998.
He is survived by three nieces, Katherine Dukes of Delmar and Eleanor L. Hudson and Mary L. Clifton, both of Millsboro; and a nephew, Calvin Scott of Millsboro and several other nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front and King Streets., Seaford, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Jeanette E. Young, 66
MIAMI - Jeanette E. Young of Miami, formerly of Bridgeville, Del., died on Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, in Hospice of Palm Beach County, West Palm Beach. She was 66.
Mrs. Young was a registered nurse who dedicated 20 years of service at the North Shore Medical Center, Miami.
She moved to North Florida in 1952 and then to Miami in 1955.
She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Young, Sr., Miami; two sons, Jack Young and Charles 'Boo Boo' Young, both of Miami; two daughters, Joyce Samere of Tallahassee, Fla., and JoNell Crowley of West Palm Beach; four brothers, Mark Prettyman, Stephen Prettyan and Joe Prettyman all of Greenwood, Del., Kenneth Prettyman of Bridgeville; three sisters, Fay Shockley of Milford; Brenda Prettyman of Bridgeville, and Dianne Dyott of Easton, Md.; seven grandchildren and a step-grandson.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville.
Burial will be in St. Johnston Cemetery, Greenwood.

Katherine A. Hopkins, 62
HARRINGTON - Katherine A. Hopkins of Harrington died of cancer on Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, in her home. She was 62.
Mrs. Hopkins was born and raised in Frederica, daughter of the late Joseph and Lina Flanagan.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Flanagan and Joseph Flanagan; and two nephews, Michael Flanagan and Paul Potocki.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, David N. Hopkins; a daughter, Michelle L. Hopkins; an aunt, Dorothy Haley of Magnolia, and many other special family and friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Price Funeral Home, 6 Dorman St., Harrington, where friends may call after 1 p.m.
Burial will be in Barratts Chapel Cemetery in Frederica.
Anne L. Manly, 81
GEORGETOWN - Anne L. Manly of Georgetown died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, in her home. She was 81.
Mrs. Manly was a seamstress for many years, but most recently for Carlton's in Rehoboth Beach.
She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, and sewing.
Mrs. Manly was a member of the Indian River Senior Bowling League.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold E. Adams, Sr.; a son, Charles Adams; and a daughter, Dorothy Hutchinson.
She is survived by her husband of four years, William S.'Reds' Manly; two sons and their wives, Harold E. and Shirley Adams of Lewes, and Richard L. and Rita Adams of Milmont, Pa.; three daughters and their husbands, Marian and Thomas Ayers of Collingswood, N.J., Louise Rowland of Georgetown, and April and Dennis Casper of Georgetown; two sisters, LaRue Keifer of Florida and Mildred Wesner of Kulpmont, Pa.; a brother, Victor Ford of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Virginia Manly of Philadelphia; a son-in-law, Lowell Hutchinson of Sharon Hill, Pa.; a niece, Dolores Adams of Cape May, N.J.; 28 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Short Funeral Services Chapel, East Market Street, Georgetown. The family will receive friends following the service at their home in Georgetown.

Spencer Mayo Murchison, 59
HOUSTON, TEXAS - Spencer Mayo Murchison of Houston died on Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, in Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital.
Mr. Murchison was the son of George Spencer Murchison and the late Rosalee Cox Murchison.
He is survived by his wife Bridget Caulley Murchison; two sons, Spencer Faris Murchison and James Fletcher Murchison, both of Houston; a daughter, Hila Murchison Graham of Nashville, Tenn.; and a brother, Richard Theo Murchison of Houston.
Memorial service will be 9 a.m. today at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Chestertown, Md.
Service in Houston is being planned at a later date.

Marlene L. Slater, 57
DOVER - Marlene L. Slater of Dover, formerly of Wilmington, died on Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, in her home. She was 57.
Mrs. Slater was a homemaker.
In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons, Richard Slater, Dave Foraker, and John Foraker, all of Dover; two daughters, Benalee Foraker of Felton, and Michelle Martin of Dover; and three grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. today in Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, where friends may call after 10 a.m.

Milton D. Sheldon, 70
DOVER - Milton D. Sheldon of Dover, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. He was 70.
Mr. Sheldon was born Sept. 15 1928, in Johnson City, N.Y., son of the late Foster L. and Gladys Maus Sheldon.
He served 24 years with the U.S. Air force from 1949 to 1973 and retired with rank of Technical Sgt.
He worked for Python Construction Company for many years.
Mr. Sheldon had a love of music, recorded music at Christian Camps, sang in many churches and nursing homes. In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marion R. Beam Sheldon of Dover; two sons and their wives, Larrie T. and Judy Sheldon Sr. and Douglas and Margaret Sheldon, all of Dover; a brother, Lawrence and his wife, Patricia Sheldon, of Phoenix; and his two grandsons, Larrie T. Sheldon Jr. and David L. Sheldon, both of Dover.
Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, in the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in the Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
James G. Azar, 42
DOVER - James G. Azar of Dover died of complications from surgery on Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998. He was 42.
Mr. Azar was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Jan. 6, 1956. Jim grew up in Hollywood, Fla. He graduated from Nova Senior High School in 1974, an academic scholar receiving honors in the Westinghouse Science Talent Search and the National Forensics League. He acted in numerous plays throughout the country during his life. His most recent role was that of the king in the Salisbury Maryland Community Players production of 'The King and I' in 1991.
Jim served as an interrogator in the U.S. Army intelligence Corps between 1976 and 1979 and received an honorable discharge. He published his book of poetry 'Arrival One or Only' in 1982. He wrote several short-story plays and created many songs that he would play on his electronic piano for family and friends. In 1986, he graduated from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla., with a bachelor of arts in English literature. He was awarded a scholarship to attend Exter College in Oxford, England, to further his education in English literature.
In 1989, he moved to Salisbury, Md., to start the Fast Atlantic Service Transport Trucking Co. with his brother-in-law.
Jim was vice president of sales for Milliken & Michaels in Dover from 1991 to March 1998. He moved to Dover in 1994 in March of this year and decided to retire from Miliken & Michael's to pursue his love of creating poetry. Between March 1998 and the time of his departure, Jim spent his time writing poetry, loving his family, coaching his daughter's softball team and philosophizing with numerous friends.
Jim lived passionately and loved hard. The world is a smaller place without him today.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Cindy Azar; two daughters, Karon Lawson and Brittany Azar, both of Dover; his parents, Elaine and George Azar of Hollywood, Fla.; a brother, Gregory Azar of Hollywood; two sisters, Dawn Madsen of Tallahassee, Fla., and Varlie Fosburgh of Lake Mary, Fla.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be private.

Edythe M. Brueggeman, 76
REHOBOTH BEACH - Edythe M. Brueggeman of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Camp Hill, Pa., died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, in her home. She was 76.
Mrs. Brueggeman was born in West Fairview, Pa., daughter of the late Theodore and Mary Bell.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Adrian Brueggeman of Rehoboth Beach; two daughters, Deborah Brezna and Cynthia Mill, both of Wilkes Barre, Pa.; a sister, Marian Bell of Camp Hill; and five grandchildren.
