FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Myra Ethel Schulke formerly of Federalsburg, died of heart failure, Tuesday, March 17, 1998, in The Pines in Easton. She was 89.
Mrs. Schulke was born in 1908, in the Williamsburg area of Dorchester County, the daughter of the late Cyrus and Hattie Hubbert Lord.
She graduated from Hurlock High School and The Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia.
Mrs. Schulke worked as a nurse in Washington, D.C., then returned to the Federalsburg-Hurlock area. She was a homemaker most of her life, in addition to being a caregiver.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Federalsburg, and attended the Federalsburg Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Schulke in 1960, and six brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one daughter, Ann Reinhold of Denton; one brother, Ray Lord of Williamsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Bloomingdale Avenue, Federalsburg.
The Rev. Glenn Lyburn will officiate.
Emma Florice Griffin Bowie, 89
DOVER - Emma Florice Griffin Bowie of Dover died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 89.
Mrs. Bowie was born May 8, 1909, in Ford, Dinwiddie County, Va., the daughter of the late Martha Farley and Henry Valley Griffin. She was a longtime resident of New York City. Five years ago, she moved to Harrington, and was recently a resident of Capitol Health Care Services' nursing facility, Dover.
She was educated in the public schools of Dinwiddie County and at Blackstone Training School, and attended Virginia State College in Petersburg, Va.
Early in her life, Mrs. Bowie taught in the Prince George County (Va.) school system.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edmond Bowie Sr.
She is survived by a son, Abdullah Muhammed of New York; two daughters, Anita Nesbit of Harrington and Dorothy Goodman of Texas City, Texas; a son-in-law, Edward Nesbit of Harrington; two daughters-in-law, Janie Muhammed and Bertha Bowie, both of New York; a sister and brother-in-law, Jessie and Walter Harris, both of Petersburg; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division St., Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in Old Hickory Cemetery, Lincoln.
Richard J. Chapman Jr., 31
CLAYTON - Richard J. Chapman Jr. of Clayton died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998. He was 31.
Mr. Chapman was born Aug. 11, 1967, the son of Linda Mercer Chapman of Townsend and the late Richard J. Chapman Sr.
He served in the U.S. Army. He had been a correctional officer for the last five years at Gander Hill Prison in Wilmington, and, most recently, had been working for Metal Masters in Clayton.
Mr. Chapman enjoyed fishing.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ted Chapman, in 1989.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Iselle Chapman; a son, Alex Chapman, at home; a stepdaughter, Jessica, at home; a brother, Steven Chapman of Smyrna; three sisters, Pam Pearce, Tina Chapman and Kimberly Smith, all of Clayton; three nephews; and three nieces.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.
William Waddell Edmond, 86
REHOBOTH BEACH - William Waddell Edmond of Rehoboth Beach died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 86.
Mr. Edmond was born Oct. 4, 1912, in Edinburgh, Scotland, the son of the late James L. Edmond and Janet C. Waddell.
He served in the Royal Air Force. Later, he worked as a landscaper.
Mr. Edmond was a member of the Cape Henlopen Elks and of the Sussex Pines Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Lilian Morrissey Edmond of Rehoboth Beach; a daughter and son-in-law, Saundra E. O'Leary and Daniel F. O'Leary, both of Washington, D.C.; and a granddaughter, Stephanie A. O'Leary, also of Washington.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Epworth United Methodist Church, 20 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach, with the Rev. Ann Pruitt-Barnett officiating.
Burial will be private.
Flowers are acceptable.

Joseph E. 'Joe' Rogers, 83
MILFORD - Joesph E. 'Joe' Rogers of Milford died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, in the Milford Center, Milford. He was 83.
Mr. Rogers as a lifelong carpenter, working with his father and brother. He had also worked several years for the Carpenters and Millwrights Local Union 2012 in Seaford, retiring in 1980.
He was a life member of the Calvary United Methodist Church and had been a member for more than 30 years. He was a 30-year member of the Milford Elks Lodge 2401, where he had been honored with the Elk of the Year Award in 1978-1979 and had been chairman of the House Committee. He was an honorary member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Milford for his service during World War II building ships for the war at the Vinyard Shipyard in Milford.
Mr. Rogers enjoyed nice cars and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn H. Rogers, in 1988; by a son, Joseph Donald Rogers in 1937; and by two grandchildren, Linda Rogers Johnson and L. Kevin Rogers in 1983.
He is survived by three sons, Mayor Joseph Ronnie Rogers, Lewis Wayne Rogers and Joseph Eddie Rogers, all of Milford; two daughters, Joyce K. Cline and Barbara Jo Moore, both of Lincoln; a sister, Sarah Marie Rogers of Elsmere; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, where friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.
Marlene L. Slater, 57
DOVER - Marlene L. Slater of Dover, and formerly of Wilmington, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, in her home. She was 57.
Ms. Slater was a homemaker.
In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons, Richard Slater and John Foraker, both of Dover, and Dave Foraker of Felton; two daughters, Benalee Foraker of Felton and Michelle Martin of Dover; and three grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be private.

Miriam C. Wagner, 95
WILMINGTON - Miriam C. Wagner of Wilmington, and formerly of Dover, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, in Kentmere Nursing Care Center, Wilmington. She was 95.
Mrs. Wagner was born in Hartly.
She had worked for the George M. Schwartz Theaters in Dover, and then, for seven years as a secretary at Wesley College, Dover, retiring in 1972.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis G. Wagner.
She is survived by two daughters, Frances L. Johnson of Pilot Mountain, N.C., and Dorothy L. Williams of Edgewater, Fla.; two stepsons, Leroy Wagner of Wilmington and Richard Wagner of Media, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Joan Gamel of Wilmington; a brother, John E. Clark of Smyrna; 10 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna, with burial to follow.

David M. Ward, 68
DOVER - David M. Ward of Dover, and formerly of Hillsborough, N.J., died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, in Bethesda Naval Hospital, Bethesda, Md. He was 68.
Mr. Ward was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. He lived in New Jersey for more than 30 years before moving to Dover 15 years ago.
He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, Athens, Ga., and attended Pratt Institute of Technology, Brooklyn.
Mr. Ward was an Army veteran, serving with the occupation forces in Japan after World War II, and in Korea. In his civilian career, he was a self-employed photographer and journalist, specializing in wedding photography.
He was a life member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2290, Manville, N.J.
He is survived by his wife, MaryLee Clayton Ward of Dover; two sons, Christopher Ward of New Milford, Pa., and Peter Ward of Harmony, N.J.; and two grandchildren.
A military service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

DOVER - Mary A. Emert of Dover died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. She was 77.
Mrs. Emert was born Aug. 11, 1921, the daughter of the late Ed and Lonie Walls.
She had worked for Playtex for 21 years, retiring in 1976.
She enjoyed wallpapering with her daughters and going to yard sales.
Mrs. Emert had been a member of Victory church since the beginning of the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Emert.
Mrs. Emert is survived by two sons, John Richard Gilbert of Hartly and Woodrow Wilson Gilbert of Dover; four daughters, Sophia Ebright of Smyrna, Loretta Edith Wright of Dover, Leona Cravens of Dover, and Eleanor F. Turner of Woodside; 20 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, at Victory Church, 2736 Forest Ave., Dover.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.

SEAFORD - John Fragomele of Seaford died of heart failure Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, in the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 73.
Mr. Fragomele was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Wilmington.
He retired from McOuavs Market in Rehoboth.
He is survived by brother, Ralph Minchini of Newark.
Service will be Monday, 11 a.m. at Mary Mother of Peace Church, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Epworth Cemetary in Rehoboth.
