Levin D. Hudson, 78

SELBYVILLE - Levin D. Hudson of Selbyville died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in his home. He was 78.

Mr. Hudson was born in Williamsville, the son of the late Harvey Hudson and Priscilla Morris Hudson.

He was a retired truck driver for Hitchens Brothers, Selbyville.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Myrtle R. Hudson of Selbyville; three stepsons, Clinton Short of Emmett, Idaho, Harvey Short of Berlin, Md., and Gary Short of Selbyville; three stepdaughters, Barbara Hall of Selbyville, Carol Richardson of Berlin, Md., and Judy Bennett of Laurel; two sisters, Viola Lewis of Willards, Md., and Sally Baker of Salisbury, Md.; 15 step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. today at the Roxana Cemetery in Roxana, where the Rev. Leroy Weymouth will officiate.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Delaware Hospice, Southern Division, 600 N. DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Erle S. Cathell Sr., 76

MILFORD - Erle S. Cathell Sr. of Milford died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in Milford Center. He was 76.

Mr. Cathell was born Feb. 4, 1922, in Wilmington, the son of the late William E. Cathell and Rosa Cathell.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Cathell worked as a line worker for the Diamond Shamrock Chemical Co. in Delaware City, retiring in 1982.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Cathell and John F. Cathell; and a sister, Pearl Cathell.

He is survived by his companion of 29 years, Lillie G. Meekins of Milford; a daughter, Debbie Cathell of Willards, Md.; two stepdaughters, Paula Haas of Townsend and Patricia Fanning of Milford; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Torbert Funeral Chapel in Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the American Heart Association, Kent County Division, P.O. Box 1977, Dover, DE 19903-1977.

Jacqueline Emory Carter, 53

BEAR - Jacqueline Emory Carter of Bear died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, in her home. She was 53.

Mrs. Carter was a social worker for the state of Delaware for nine years.

She was a member of Maple Dale Country Club, Dover.

She is survived by two daughters, Donella Wilkins of Greenwood and Inez Clements of Milford; three sons, Edward Allison, James Allison and Kenneth Allison, all of Dover; three brothers, David Emory of Dover, Donald Emory of Wilmington and Daniel Emory of Wyoming; a sister, Janie Griggs of Dover; and one grandchild.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Frederick Browne, 47

WILMINGTON - Frederick Browne of Wilmington died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, in his home. He was 47.

Mr. Browne was born Sept. 6, 1951, in Wyoming, the son of Mary Looper of Dover and the late Frederick Douglass Browne.

He attended Caesar Rodney High School, Camden. He was intellectually gifted and fluent in Spanish.

While in high school, Mr. Browne enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1969, and spent a year of his two-year tour of duty in Vietnam. While in the service, he would receive letters in Spanish from his high school Spanish teacher, and he would reply in Spanish.

He was also an avid book reader and would spend endless hours reading. Although he was a private person, he treasured his family and enjoyed his friends. He was a real friend when someone needed a friend.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Terrence Browne.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Frederick Saunders of Dover; a daughter, Camille Saunders of Smyrna; a stepson, Genius Gladius; a grandson, Devante Saunders of Smyrna; his stepfather, Webster Looper of Dover; two brothers, Tyrone Browne of Dover and Cecil Browne of Wilmington; two sisters, Vanessa Browne Barbour of Pittsburgh and Victoria Browne of Temple Hills, Md.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Service will be noon Saturday at Bennie Smith Funeral Chapel, 717 W. Division St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Ronald A. Brown, 44

EARLEVILLE - Ronald A. Brown of Buttonwood Beach, Earleville, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in Union Hospital, Elkton. He was 44.

Mr. Brown was born March 29, 1954, in Elkton, the son of Ellen Wherry Brown of Earleville and the late John L. Brown.

He was a 1973 graduate of Bohemia Manor High School.

Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. For the past 13 years, he was employed by R & M Enterprises in maintenance.

He was a member of the Chesapeake City VFW Post 7687 and of the Cecilton Volunteer Fire Co., and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Sabrina Brown of Earleville; two brothers, Jack Brown and Robert Brown, both of Earleville; three sisters, Judy Manlove of Earleville, Marlene Brown of Cecilton and Donna Hershey of New Park, Pa.; and a devoted friend, Kathleen L. Cicero of New Jersey.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, with the Rev. Jack Shitama of Town Point United Methodist Church officiating.

Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Earleville, with full military honors by Rising Sun American Legion Post 194.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Sabrina Brown Trust Fund, c/o County Bank, PO Box 14, Cecilton, MD 21913.

Hattie Nance, 83

CAMDEN - Hattie Nance of Camden died as a result of a house fire Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, in her home. She was 83.

Mrs. Nance was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Lakeland, Fla.

She married Albert Nance in the early 1960s.

Mrs. Nance was retired from Delaware State University, where she had worked as a custodian.

She was a member of Mount Carmel Church of the Living God, Dover.

She is survived by two stepdaughters, Betty Nance of Chester, Pa., and Sadie Nance of Smyrna; six step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and a host of close friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Carmel Church of the Living God, West Street, Dover.

Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Albert Nance, 79

CAMDEN - Albert Nance of Camden died as the result of a house fire Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, in his home. He was 79.

Mr. Nance was born May 19, 1919, in Charlotte, N.C.

He married Hattie Nance in the early 1960s.

Mr. Nance retired from Gruwell Farms, where he had worked as a laborer.

He was a member of Mount Carmel Church of the Living God, Dover.

He is survived by a daughter, Betty Nance of Chester, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Sadie Nance of Smyrna; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of close friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Carmel Church of the Living God, West Street, Dover.

Burial will be in Sharon Hill Cemetery, Dover.

Wanda D. Brooks Becklin, 68

HARBESON - Wanda D. Brooks Becklin of Harbeson, and formerly of Beltsville, Md., died of cancer, which she had fought for 25 years, Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in her home. She was 68.

Mrs. Becklin had worked as a real estate sales agent and a census taker for the U.S. Census Bureau, in addition to being a homemaker.

She was past president of the Eastern Sussex Democratic Club; the coordinator of 'FISH' - Friendly Intermediate Sympathetic Help - of Beltsville; a member of the Auxiliary of American Legion Post 28 of Riverdale/Oak Orchard; and a member of Community Lutheran Church, Omar.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gilbert P. Becklin; two daughters, Anita Tyndall of Seaford and Vinice Larkins of Beltsville; her mother, Wanda McGuan of Georgetown; a brother, Robert Brooks of Denton, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Community Lutheran Church, Omar.

Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road and Del. 24, Long Neck.

Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Community Lutheran Church, Omar; or to the American Cancer Society.

Daniel B. Lynch, 53

LEWES - Daniel B. Lynch of Lewes died of natural causes Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, in his home. He was 53.

Mr. Lynch was born Jan. 10, 1945, in Lewes, the son of Ernest R. Lynch and Leora B. Lynch, both of Lewes.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked at Beebe Hospital, Lewes, in its maintenance department, and then worked at the Star of the Sea, Rehoboth Beach, until his retirement.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Dean B. Lynch of Lewes; two brothers, John W. Lynch of Lewes and Robert E. Lynch of Franklinville, N.J.; and a sister, Marianne Millman of Milton.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Atkins-Lodge Chapel of Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, with the Rev. Charles Moyer officiating.

Friends may call at the chapel one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be private.

Otis 'Charlie Boy' Scott, 70

DOVER - Otis 'Charlie Boy' Scott died of natural causes Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 70.

Mr. Scott was born July 20, 1928, in Dover, the son of the late Charles Watson and Bessie Scott.

He completed the 10th grade.

Mr. Scott was employed by Bill Holden, Ralph Emerson, L.C. Newton, C. F. Schwartz Motor Co., Refrigerated Foods Express and Mills Trucking.

He was a member of Holy Trinity UAME Church, of which he was a trustee for 15 years.

He is survived by his wife, Hester A. Scott, a son, Otis T. Scott of New Orleans; two brothers, Vernon Watson of Wyoming and the Rev. Charles Watson of New Castle; four sisters, Betty Hoggs of Georgia, Mary Baldwin of Dover, Thelma Henderson of Chicago and Elizabeth Price of Fort Washington, Md.; two grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Williams and Flossie Little, both of Dover; and three brothers-in-law, William Richardson of Smyrna, Leovertor Richardson of Dayton, Ohio, and John Henry Richardson of Wilmington.

Service will be noon Saturday at Holy Trinity UAME Church, New and Reed streets, Dover, with the Rev. Ronald Jackson officiating.

Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
