Karlis Krasts, 93

DOVER - Karlis Krasts of Dover died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 93.

Mr. Krasts was born in Snikere, Latvia.

He was retired from Playtex in Dover.

Mr. Krasts was a member of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wilmington.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alida I. Liepins Krasts of Dover; two sons, Aivars Krasts of Bear and John Krasts of Dover; and four grandsons.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Oct. 9 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where friends may call after 7 p.m. Thursday.

Burial will be in Silverbrook Memorial Park, Wilmington.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church, c/o A. Baidians, 1104 Windon Drive, Chatham, Wilmington, DE 19810.

Bertha Pappas Pusey, 63

DOVER - Bertha Pappas Pusey of Dover died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, in Philadelphia. She was 63.

Ms. Pusey was born in 1934, in Elkton, Md., the daughter of the late James Pappas and Sotoria Pappas.

She graduated with a Certificate of Achievement in Secretarial Science from Goldey Beacom College in Wilmington in 1963.

She also attended Delaware Technical & Community College in Dover, and Delaware State College, where she completed her Junior year and was inducted into the Alpha Chi Honor Society.

Mrs. Pusey had worked as a secretary at the Dover Air Force Base and the State of Delaware Department of Transportation.

She was the Assistant Stage Manager for the Singing Players, from 1968-80.

She volunteered at the Family Court to assist victims of domestic violence, most recently.

Mrs. Pusey received a Superior Performance Award from the Department of the Air Force, in 1968; an Outstanding Volunteer Service from the Military Airlift Command, during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm; and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Domestic Violence Advocacy Center, in 1996 and 1997.

She was awarded the Outstanding Volunteer in Victim Services for the State of Delaware for the year of 1998.

She was commended for this award and her dedication to her work with domestic violence and the Domestic Violence Advocacy Center, when the Delaware State General Assembly passed Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 66, on April 30, 1998.

Mrs. Pusey was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Wilmington; a member of the Dover Century Club, where she once held the office of Director of the Executive Board and had also been the chairperson for the Property and Advertising Committees; and a former member of the Newcomers Club, where she had held the office of President and had chaired the Luncheon Committee.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond S. Pusey of Dover; and a daughter, Diane E. Pusey of Germantown, Md.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Dover.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover.

Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover.

Dean K. Francazio Jr., infant

SALEM, Conn. - Dean K. Francazio Jr. of Salem died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, in Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London.

Dean was born July 7, 1998, in Farmington, the son of Dean K. Francazio Sr. and Patricia (Kollar) Francazio.

He is survived by his parents; a sister, Fallone M. Francazio at home; his paternal grandparents, Louis and Patricia Francazio of Dover; his maternal grandmother, Mary Kay Turner of Albany, N.Y.; his maternal great-grandparents, Leo and Mary Turner of Albany; two aunts; an uncle; and two cousins.

Service will be 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of the Lake R.C. Church, Oakdale.

Burial will be in Salem Green Cemetery, Salem.

Joan Phares James, 70

SEAFORD - Joan Phares James of Seaford died of heart failure Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, in her home. She was 70.

Mrs. James was born in Elkins, W.Va., the daughter of Lena Meadows Phares of Elkins and the late Strader Phares.

She was a housewife.

Mrs. James was a member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, William K. James; a son, Kenneth, of Seaford; two daughters, Joyce Urgo and Janet Griffin, both of Seaford; a bother, Strader Phares of Elkins; two sisters, Tessie Northrup of Seaford and Kaye Wilmoth of Elkins; and eight grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, High Street, Seaford, with the Rev. Earle N. Baker officiating.

Burial will be private.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, High Street, Seaford, DE 19973.

Barbara Snyder Saulsbury, 68

OCEAN VIEW - Barbara Snyder Saulsbury of Ocean View, died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, in Lewes Convalescent Center. She was 68.

Ms. Saulsbury was born in 1930, in State College, Pa., the daughter of the late Jacob Cash Snyder and Della Mease Snyder.

She was a homemaker.

Ms. Saulsbury was a member of St. Martha's Episcopal Church, where she was a former member of the Mission Committee and of the Episcopal Church Women.

She was preceded in death by a son, Edward O. Saulsbury Jr., in 1978.

She is survived by her husband, Edward Orrell Saulsbury Sr. of Ocean View; two sons, William Snyder Saulsbury of Pinehurst, N.C., and John Robert Saulsbury of Milford; a brother, Richard Pearce of State College; a sister, Dorothy Alderfer of New Brunswick, N.J.; three grandchildren and a great granddaughter.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Martha's Episcopal Church, Bethany Beach.

Burial will be private.

Elma E. Cramer, 87

DOVER - Elma E. Cramer of Dover died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, in Capital Nursing Facility. She was 87.

Ms. Cramer was born in 1911, in Bridgeville, the daughter of the late John Samuel Taylor and Nora May Smith Taylor.

She married William Howard Cramer, in 1929.

They made their home in East Lansdowne, Pa.

Ms. Cramer was a homemaker, at that time.

She later worked in the credit department of Lit Brothers Department Store in Philadelphia, for several years, retiring in the late 1970s.

She had resided in Dover with her sister for the past eight years.

She will be remembered as a very outgoing and caring individual, an inspiration to her siblings, and a devoted mother and wife.

Ms. Cramer was a past member of Trinity Methodist Church in East Lansdowne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Cramer, in 1946; and a son, Robert Chance Cramer, in 1987.

She is survived by two brothers, John Robert Taylor of Rouses Point, N.Y., and William Howard Taylor of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sisters, Edith May Callahan and Rachel Margaret Taylor, both of Dover, and Helen Virginia Cannon of Chestertown, Md.; and three grandchildren, Chance Cramer of Long Beach, Calif., and Eric Cramer and Sheri Lee Gage, both of Washington.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown, where friends may call one hour prior to service.

Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery, Fernwood, Pa.

Wilmer M. Murphy, 84

LEWES - Wilmer M. Murphy of Lewes died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, in Beebe Medical Center. He was 84.

Mr. Murphy was born in 1914, in Unionville, Pa., the son of the late William W. Murphy and Anna Mae Larkin Murphy.

He worked as a carpenter for E. T. Chambers General Construction Co. in West Grove, Pa., retiring in 1976.

He later worked as a school bus driver for Unionville, and for Amy Mitchell in Lewes.

He served as a volunteer fireman in the Po-Mar-Lin Fire Dept., for 26 years.

Mr. Murphy was a member of the Jefferson Lodge 12 in Lewes, a member of the 32nd Degree Mason, a past member of the Henlopen Grange 20 in Lewes, a member of the Pomona Grange in Sussex County, a member of The State Grange of Delaware, a member of the Scottish Rite Club, and a member of Lewes Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Murphy of Lewes; a son, William Thomas Murphy and his wife, Anna M., both of Cochranville, Pa.; a brother, James Nevlin Murphy of West Chester, Pa.; two granddaughters and a great granddaughter.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium Atkins-Lodge Chapel in Lewes, where friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today.

Burial will be in Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lewes.

Mabel M. Moore, 81

MILLSBORO - Mabel M. Moore of Millsboro died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, in Harbor Health Care. She was 81.

Ms. Moore was born in Millsboro, the daughter of the late James Hudson and Susie Hitchens Hudson.

She worked as a cottage aid at the Stokley Center in Georgetown, for the state of Delaware, retiring at the age of 65.

Ms. Moore was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Millsboro, and a member of the Roxanna Senior Center.

She is survived by a son, Donald C. Walters Sr. and his wife Ella, both of Millsboro; a grandson, Donald C. Walters Jr. of Millsboro; a granddaughter, Cheryl Waibel of Wilmington; four great-grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Pippin Funeral Home in Wyoming, where the Rev. Mark Erskine will officiate.

Burial will be private.

Ella Coates, 80

LEWES - Ella Coates of Lewes, and formerly of Whittier, N.C., died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, in Millsboro Nursing Home. She was 80.

Ms. Coates was born in Port Monmouth, N.J., the daughter of the late Ralph J. Eastmond and Olga Till Eastmond.

She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by a son, Alan Coates, in 1998.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Irving Coates of Lewes; three sons, Joseph J. Coates of Avenel, N.J., Marshall D. Coates and Donald E. Coates, both of Port Monmouth; a brother, Howard Eastmond of Hazelet, N.J.; 13 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Sunday at the Mount Olivet Brethren Church, Shortley.

Burial will be private.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Grace Christian Academy, P.O. Box 1099, Bryson City, North Carolina, 28713.
